Abstract

SUMMARYMeiotic and karyological studies on 5 taxa belonging to genera Cephalanthera and Epipactis of sub-tribe Limodorinae (Neottieae) from the Western Himalayas were undertaken. Aneuploid races with 2n = 32 and 34 are recorded in Cephalanthera ensifolia. Detailed karyotypic analysis is made in all the five taxa. Meiotic studies from PMC's as well as from EMC's were studied in Epipactis consimilis and E. latifolia. Chiasma frequency was higher in the embryo-sac mother cells than the pollen mother cells in E. consimilis while reverse was the case in E. latifolia.
