The new exhibition at the National Gallery, 'Nineteenth-century paintings from the Oskar-Reinhart Foundation,' aims partly to show that Switzerland has a richer cultural heritage than is often believed. Paintings include Henry Fuseli's 'Jealousy,' which shows the artist's view of relations between the sexes. The exhibition is also valuable for its display of work by German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, whose landscapes have a remarkable depth of feeling and a level of mysticism which is absent from Swiss art.
