Resumo: Quantificar e qualificar a sustentabilidade em unidades de produção agrícolas vêm se tornando uma necessidade para muitos produtores rurais, assim como para gestores de políticas voltadas ao setor. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a sustentabilidade de propriedades rurais em municípios de Minas Gerais por meio da aplicação do método ISA. A partir de uma amostra de 39 unidades de produção familiar, foram avaliados indicadores relacionados à qualidade do solo, da água e da vegetação, e aos aspectos socioeconômicos dos agroecossistemas. As informações coletadas permitiram uma classificação das propriedades em quatro grupos distintos. O valor médio do ISA para as propriedades foi de 0,57 − abaixo do valor de 0,70, que é considerado ideal −, sendo esse conjunto classificado como em estado de desenvolvimento. Foi realizada uma comparação entre o ISA de 39 propriedades aplicadas nos anos de 2013 e 2016, permitindo verificar uma melhoria das condições de sustentabilidade após a implantação de diversas ações identificadas após a primeira aplicação. Assim, através dos resultados encontrados, chegou-se à conclusão de que o ISA é uma ferramenta adequada para avaliar a sustentabilidade de propriedades rurais, sugerir melhorias e ainda identificar trade-offs em termos de sustentabilidade, entre os aspectos socioeconômicos e ambientais.

The Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique is an important method of evaluating material strain fields. Composite materials have inherently heterogeneous elastic properties, in the function of the different phases present in the composition, whereat the traditional techniques of deformation evaluation may not be sufficient to determine the mechanisms that eventually contribute to the failure of the material. The present work were evaluated, the tensile mechanical properties of polyester matrix composites loaded with an industrial residue of red mud, with a mass fraction of 20%. The properties were surveyed using the conventional technique of strain gauge and compared with the data obtained through DIC. The results showed that the DIC technique was accurate in monitoring the displacements and determining the average deformation of the tested specimens, in addition to providing ample deformation fields, for the evaluation of failure mechanisms throughout the sample request process.

Resumo Este estudo avaliou o custo de um serviço público de telediagnóstico em oftalmologia. O método de custeio baseado em atividades e tempo (TDABC) foi adotado para examinar os componentes de custos relacionados à teleoftalmologia. Com este método, também foi possível estabelecer o custo unitário padrão que o telediagnóstico deveria ter, dada a capacidade instalada e utilização de profissionais. Dados de um ano de telediagnósticos foram considerados, e avaliou-se a mudança do custo por telediagnóstico ao longo do período de adaptação da tecnologia no sistema. O custo padrão calculado por diagnóstico oftalmológico a distância foi de R$ 119, considerando a emissão de 1.080 laudos de telediagnóstico oftalmológico por mês. Foi identificado um desequilíbrio entre as atividades que sugere a capacidade do método TDABC orientar ações de gestão e melhoria na alocação dos recursos. Ao longo de um ano, o custo unitário real passou de R$ 783 para R$ 283, ainda havendo espaço para se aproximar do custo padrão estimado. Avaliações econômicas parciais possuem importante aporte para subsidiar a incorporação de novas tecnologias. O TDABC merece destaque nesse sentido, pois permite obter informações mais precisas sobre custo da tecnologia, melhorando a capacidade de dimensionamento e gerenciamento da organização de saúde. Abstract This study evaluated the cost of public telediagnostic service in ophthalmology. The time-driven activity-based costing method (TDABC) was adopted to examine the cost components related to teleophthalmology. This method allowed us to establish the standard unit cost of telediagnosis, given the installed capacity and utilization of professionals. We considered data from one year of telediagnoses and evaluated the cost per telediagnosis change throughout technology adaptation in the system. The standard cost calculated by distance ophthalmic diagnosis was approximately R$ 119, considering the issuance of 1,080 monthly ophthalmic telediagnostic reports. We identified an imbalance between activities, which suggests the TDABC method’s ability to guide management actions and improve resource allocation. The actual unit cost fell from R$ 783 to R$ 283 over one year – with room to approach the estimated standard cost. Partial economic evaluations contribute significantly to support the incorporation of new technologies. The TDABC method deserves prominence, as it enables us to retrieve more accurate information on the cost of technology, improving the scalability and management capacity of the healthcare system.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar a influência da hemodiálise precoce no desfecho da lesão renal aguda séptica. Método: estudo observacional, analítico, prospectivo, com pacientes diagnosticados com lesão renal aguda séptica em hemodiálise. Foi utilizado como instrumento um questionário para coleta de dados. Utilizaram-se para análise os testes Shapiro-Wilk, o não paramétrico de Kruskal-Wallis, U de Mann-Whitney, t de Student e do Qui-Quadrado. Resultados: dos 40 pacientes analisados, 60% eram do sexo masculino, com média de 55 (±16,8) anos, e tempo de internação hospitalar de 43 (±26,2) dias. Ao separar em dois grupos, pacientes submetidos à hemodiálise precoce e à hemodiálise tardia, observou-se naqueles que realizaram tardiamente a hemodiálise um aumento de creatinina sérica (p = 0,001), entretanto a creatinina ≥ 4mg/dl é umas das características desse grupo. Em ambos os grupos, houve uma alta mortalidade: 62,5% (10) no grupo de hemodiálise precoce e 41,7% (10) no grupo de hemodiálise tardia, sendo o uso de vasopressor (p = 0,001) o principal fator de risco. Conclusão o início precoce da hemodiálise na lesão renal aguda séptica com base nas definições do KDIGO não influenciou no desfecho. Contudo, o uso do vasopressor associado à hemodiálise em pacientes sépticos foi um fator preditor ao óbito.

Este é um artigo de opinião que objetiva subsidiar a discussão pós-pandemia da Doença causada pelo Novo Coronavírus de 2019 (COVID-19) a respeito da regulamentação do atendimento por meio de recursos digitais. Buscou-se, por meio de revisão de literatura, conceituar a consulta remota e fazer um levantamento tanto da evolução histórica da apropriação tecnológica pela saúde como da regulamentação sobre o tema. Foram avaliados textos cobrindo os períodos pré-pandêmico e pandêmico no Brasil, Estados Unidos, União Europeia e Austrália. Procurou-se evidenciar as principais falácias, sofismas e dissensos que orbitam o tema, bem como os reais pontos onde há necessidade de maior empenho para os tomadores de decisão: segurança de dados e privacidade, paridade de reembolso e licenciamento interestadual. Conclui-se que a apropriação tecnológica pela saúde dividiu o mundo em pelo menos três segmentos: os que mantiveram a autonomia de profissionais e pacientes; os que retardaram o avanço tecnológico por meio de burocracia; e os que proibiram os avanços. A pandemia gerou realocações positivas entre esses grupos e existe a necessidade de refinar avanços e evitar retrocessos.

RESUMO Cercosporiose é uma das principais doenças que comprometem o crescimento de mudas de café por causar desfolha e redução no crescimento. A doença apresenta maior severidade quando o cafeeiro está submetido ao déficit hídrico. O uso de irrigação é uma alternativa para minimizar os danos causados pela doença. Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar o impacto da doença na fisiologia do cafeeiro em função da redução da lâmina de irrigação. As plantas foram submetidas a três lâminas de irrigação (0.1, 0.6 e 1.2 mm.dia-1); inoculadas e não inoculadas com C. coffeicola, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com 35 repetições, totalizando 210 unidades experimentais. As mudas de cafeeiro com cercosporiose apresentaram reduções no potencial hídrico mínimo e na fotossíntese em função da lâmina de irrigação, com excessão da lâmina de irrigação com 0,6 mm.dia-1. A atividade do sistema antioxidante foi superior nas mudas doentes apenas na maior irrigação. Os resultados comprovaram que a presença da doença incrementou o estresse hídrico nas mudas de café por reduzir o potencial hídrico e uso eficiente de água.

Purpose: to analyze synchronous teleconsultation as a support tool in the management of temporomandibular disorders in primary health care and to identify which factors have an impact on decisions about teleconsultation. Methods: retrospective study perfomed in TelessaúdeRS, between May 2018 to May 2020. This study used primary data from synchronous teleconsultation, requested by primary health care professionals and carried out by multiprofessional teleconsultants. The data collected were the information reported by the requester, the teleconsultant's suggestions and if there was referral of the patient for specialized care after teleconsultation. The statistical association was investigated between patient characteristics and decision of teleconsultation; and teleconsultation conduct suggestions and decision of teleconsultation, using Fisher's exact test and modeling was performed using binary logistic regression considering 5% of significance (p≤0.05). Results: during the period, 56 teleconsultations had a temporomandibular diagnostic hypothesis, these 79.2% patients were female and the average age was 43.7 years. In 59.1% of teleconsultations, primary care management was suggested, with 72.4% of patients being managed. The genus Paratrygon, currently recognized as the sole monotypic genus of the family Potamotrygonidae, has a considerably greater diversity than previously indicated, including molecular studies, which supported P. aiereba (hitherto the only recognized species in the genus) as a possible species complex. Here we describe two new species of the genus that are both endemic to and sympatric in the Orinoco basin. Paratrygon aiereba, type species of the genus, is now restricted to the Amazon basin. Both new species are identified and defined through morphological characters such as coloration, dermal denticle morphology, arrangement of thorns, distribution and morphology of ventral lateral line canals, morphology of skeletal elements, and morphometrics. An extensive comparison of these characters between the new species herein described and P. aiereba is presented. Finally, a taxonomic reappraisal of P. aiereba is provided through a revision of preserved material and its original description, plus new evidence about its type-locatity, collectors, and a reconsideration of the destination of its type-specimen. Resumo O gênero Paratrygon, reconhecido atualmente como o único gênero monotípico da família Potamotrygonidae, possui uma considerável alta diversidade do que previamente indicado, incluindo estudos moleculares, que corroboravam P. aiereba (a única espécie reconhecida para o gênero até então) como um possível complexo de espécies. Aqui descrevemos duas novas espécies do gênero para a bacia do Orinoco, ambas endêmicas e simpátricas para esta bacia. Paratrygon aiereba, espécie tipo do gênero, agora está restrita para a bacia Amazônica. Ambas novas espécies são identificadas e definidas através de caracteres morfológicos tais como coloração, morfologia dos dentículos dérmicos, arranjo dos espinhos pontiagudos, distribuição e morfologia dos canais ventrais da linha lateral, morfologia dos elementos do esqueleto e morfometria. Uma comparação extensiva destes caracteres entre as novas espécies aqui descritas e P. aiereba é apresentada. Finalmente uma reavaliação taxonômica de P. aiereba é fornecida através da revisão de espécimes preservados e de sua descrição original, além de novas evidências sobre sua possível localidade-tipo, coletores, e uma reconsideração do destino de seu espécime-tipo.

Hypothenemus hampei is the main coffee pest in the Amazon and worldwide. Although coffee cultivation exists in the State of Amazonas, there is no information regarding the behavior of this species population in this region of Brazil. Since the Amazon region is a favorable environment for H. hampei, the present study aimed to investigate this insect population in the following cultivation systems implanted in the municipality of Humaitá, Southern Amazonas: i) coffee in native forest (CNF), ii) coffee intercropped with cupuaçu and açaí (native Brazilian fruits) (CCA) and iii) coffee in monoculture (MC). Also, the climatic and phenological parameters of the plant were used in relation with the population dynamics of the insect. For that, ten baited traps were installed in each field for the monthly sampling of the H. hampei population from July/2018 to June/2019. The highest population abundance of the insect was observed during the coffee flowering season, mainly in monoculture crops, when compared to the other intercropped fields. The total mean value of the insect population observed in the three environments evaluated was highest in August/2018, with a recorded value of 1749. The increase in rainfall indexes occurred simultaneously with a decrease in the insect population; this coincides with the end of the flowering season (October/2018, 161.8 mm) and the beginning of grain formation (November/2018, 234.8 mm). The lowest abundance of the insect observed in the coffee fields in native forest, with an abundance of 83 (CNF), indicates that the local biodiversity disfavors the population size of the pest in the environment. These results suggest that phenological phases of conilon coffee and the influence of climatic conditions can result in changes in the population dynamics of the H. hampei. Coffee agroforestry systems are more promising to maintain this population at low levels. RESUMO A broca-do-café, Hypothenemus hampei, é a principal praga do cafeeiro na Amazônia e em todo mundo. Embora haja cultivo de café no estado do Amazonas, não há informações sobre o comportamento da população desta espécie nesta região do Brasil. Como a região amazônica é um ambiente propício para o H. hampei, o presente trabalho objetivou investigar a população do inseto em diferentes sistemas de cultivo implantadas no município de Humaitá, Sul do Amazonas: i) café em floresta nativa (CFN), ii) café consorciada com cupuaçu e açaí (CCA) e iii) café em monocultivo (MC). Também, utilizou-se os parâmetros climáticos e fenológico da planta para relacionar com a dinâmica populacional do inseto. Para isso, instalaram-se 10 armadilhas iscadas em cada lavoura para amostragens mensais da população do H. hampei durante Julho/2018 a Junho/2019. A maior abundância populacional do inseto foi observada durante a floração do café, principalmente na lavoura de monocultivo, em relação às demais lavouras consorciadas. O valor médio total da população do inseto observada nos três ambientes investigados é maior no mês de agosto/2018, registrando-se o valor de 1749. O aumento dos índices pluviométricos ocorreu simultaneamente com a diminuição da população inseto, isso coincide com o final da floração (outubro/2018, 161.8 mm) e início da granação dos frutos (novembro/2018, 234.8 mm). A menor abundância do inseto observada na lavoura sob floresta nativa, abundância de 83 (CFN), indica que a biodiversidade local desfavorece o tamanho populacional da praga no ambiente. As fases fenológicas do café conilon e a influência das condições climáticas podem resultar em mudanças na dinâmica populacional de H. hampei. Os cafeeiros em sistemas agroflorestais são mais promissores para manter essa população em níveis baixos.

Purpose To develop and validate a chest cavity simulator for teaching video-assited thoracic surgery (VATS). Methods The first phase of the study consisted of developing a chest cavity simulator. A quasi-experimental study was performed in the second phase, and 25 surgeons and residents participated in a three-stage pulmonary suture experiment. The videos were recorded and timed. Generalized linear regression models for repeated measures were used to analyze the outcome change over time. Results The chest cavity simulator consists of a console simulating the left hemithorax. Among the participants, 96% rated the design, visual aspect, positioning ergonomics, and triangulation of the portals as very good or excellent (face validity). There was a decrease in suturing time in step 1 from 435.7 ± 105 to 355.6 ± 76.8 seconds compared to step 3 (p = 0.001). The evaluation of the simulation effectiveness and performance (content validity) was rated as very good or excellent by 96% ofparticipants. The most experienced surgeon showed significant reduction in procedure time (p = 0.021) (construct validity). Conclusions The thoracic cavity simulator is realistic, showing content and construct validity, and can be used in VATS training. The simulation model allowed skill gain in the endoscopic suture.

Resumo O artigo investiga como eventos de El Niño de diferentes durações afetam a circulação atmosférica no Atlântico Tropical Norte (ATN), quais consequências dessas alterações sobre a variabilidade interanual da temperatura da superfície do mar (TSM) na região e qual a resposta, em termos de anomalias de precipitação, sobre o Ceará. A análise foi feita através da composição de variáveis oceanográficas e atmosféricas para 18 eventos de El Niño, divididos em eventos de curta e longa duração. Os resultados mostram que os eventos de maior duração resultaram em anomalias positivas de TSM sobre a região do ATN, favorecendo, assim, ao desenvolvimento do gradiente inter-hemisférico de anomalias de TSM positivo e um regime de precipitação abaixo da média no Ceará. Por outro lado, as alterações na circulação atmosférica sobre o ATN não se mostraram tão intensas nos anos em que o El Niño apresentou menor duração, resultando em anomalias de TSM no ATN próximas a zero e consequentemente não foi observado um gradiente de anomalias de TSM no Atlântico Tropical. A composição das anomalias de precipitação sobre o Ceará próximas de zero nesses anos condiz com essa não formação de um gradiente de anomalias de TSM. Abstract This paper investigates how El Niño events of different durations affect the atmospheric circulation over the Tropical North Atlantic (TNA) region, what are the consequences of these alterations in the sea surface temperature (SST) interannual variability and what are the responses, in terms of precipitation anomalies, over Ceará. Composite analyses of oceanographic and atmospheric variables were made for 18 El Niño years, divided between events of short and long duration. Events that lasted longer resulted in positive SST anomalies in the TNA region, leading to an interhemispheric gradient of SST anomalies in the Tropical Atlantic and below normal precipitation anomalies over Ceará. On the other hand, the alterations in the atmospheric circulation on TNA, during years of short duration El Niño, have not shown to be as intense as those in years of long duration El Niño. This resulted in SST anomalies on TNA close to zero and consequently, the interhemispheric gradient of SST anomalies was not observed. The near normal precipitation anomalies composites are consistent with the no formation of a SST anomalies gradient.

The drift of hormonal effect herbicides is a major problem for agriculture, because, even in small amounts, it may cause high losses in crops with plants that are sensitive to their action mechanism. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of hydraulic spray nozzles with air induction, as well as the use of the LI-700 adjuvant, in the reduction of the 2,4-D herbicide drift, in tomato crop. A complete randomized split-plot experimental design, with eight replications, was used. Two herbicide solutions were assigned in the plots (with or without the use of adjuvant) [2,4-D (670 g ha-1) and 2,4-D (670 g ha-1) + LI-700 (712.88 g ha-1)], and, in the subplots, five nozzle models [simple fan (JSF11003), simple fan with air induction (AD-IA11003), dual fan with air induction (AD-IA/D11003), simple hammer fan with air induction (TTI11003-VP) and empty cone with air induction (CV-IA10003). The treatments were applied in a wind tunnel, under a pressure of 300 kPa. In a laser analyzer, applying only water, the volumetric median diameter, the relative amplitude and the percentage of drops with diameter lower than 150 µm were measured for all nozzle models. The CV-IA10003 and TTI11003-VP hydraulic nozzles outstand by reducing the 2,4-D herbicide drift and decreasing the damage to tomato plants. The addition of the LI-700 adjuvant to the 2,4-D syrup, independently of the nozzle model, reduces the drift of this herbicide and its effects on the tomato plant root. However, even when adopting these technologies, the application of the 2,4-D herbicide near the tomato crop should be avoided. RESUMO A deriva de herbicidas de efeito hormonal é um grande problema para a agricultura, pois, mesmo em pequena quantidade, pode causar grandes prejuízos em lavouras com plantas sensíveis ao seu mecanismo de ação. Objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência de pontas hidráulicas de pulverização com indução de ar, bem como o uso do adjuvante LI-700, na redução de deriva do herbicida 2,4-D, na cultura do tomate. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de parcelas subdivididas, inteiramente casualizado, com oito repetições. Nas parcelas, foram alocadas duas soluções do herbicida (com ou sem o uso de adjuvante) [2,4-D (670 g ha-1) e 2,4-D (670 g ha-1) + LI-700 (712,88 g ha-1)] e, nas subparcelas, cinco modelos de pontas [leque simples (JSF11003), leque simples com indução de ar (AD-IA11003), leque duplo com indução (AD-IA/D11003), leque simples martelinho com indução (TTI11003-VP) e cone vazio com indução (CV-IA10003)]. Os tratamentos foram aplicados em túnel de vento, à pressão de 300 kPa. Em analisador a laser, aplicando-se somente água, foram determinados, para todos os modelos de pontas, o diâmetro da mediana volumétrica, a amplitude relativa e a porcentagem de gotas com diâmetro inferior a 150 µm. As pontas hidráulicas CV-IA10003 e TTI11003-VP destacam-se por reduzir a deriva do herbicida 2,4-D e diminuir os danos a plantas de tomate. A adição do adjuvante LI-700 à calda de 2,4-D, independentemente do modelo de ponta, reduz a deriva desse herbicida e seus efeitos sobre a raiz de tomateiro. Entretanto, mesmo adotando-se essas tecnologias, a aplicação do herbicida 2,4-D próxima à cultura do tomate deve ser evitada.

Summary Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is one of the developmental factors of high blood pressure (HBP), a relevant global public health problem. OSAHS is characterized by the reduction or complete cessation of respiratory airflow due to intermittent airway collapse. Additionally, significant changes in sleep rhythm and pattern are observed in these patients. Objective: To evaluate the association between OSAHS and sleep quality in essential and resistant hypertensives. Method: A cross-sectional, observational study evaluated 43 hypertensive patients treated at the outpatient clinics of the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (FMABC) who were medicated with two or more antihypertensive drugs and divided into nonresistant or resistant to treatment. Results: Group I (using up to two antihypertensive agents – 60.47% of the sample) presented mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 127.5±6.4 mmHg, mean diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of 79.6±5.2 mmHg, mean body mass index (BMI) of 27.2±5.3 kg/m2 and mean age of 51.2±15.1 years. Group II (using more than two antihypertensive drugs – 37.2% of the sample) presented mean SBP of 132.1±9.3 mmHg, mean DBP of 84.5±5.8 mmHg, mean BMI of 27.2±7.2 kg/m2 and mean age of 55.5±13.4 years. The patients presented low quality of sleep/sleep disorder evaluated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), which represents a preponderant factor for OSAHS. Conclusion: Patients at high risk for OSAHS had poor sleep quality and high levels of DBP, suggesting a causal relation between these parameters. However, they did not present a higher prevalence of resistant high blood pressure (RHBP).

Biomaterials with the hydroxyapatite and biopolymers such as chitosan derived of crustaceans are is an alternative for bone repair. Carbon nanotubes have been a focus of interest because they can ameliorate the biomechanical properties of biomaterials. The objective of this study was to evaluate these materials in the repair of cranial defects in rats. The animals were divided in groups: without implant (G1), implanted with the chitosan/carbon nanotube membrane (G2), and chitosan/nanotube membrane mineralized with hydroxyapatite (G3). The animals were sacrificed 5 weeks after surgery and the skulls were removed for analysis of the defect area. The results showed absence of chronic inflammatory and little bone neoformation in the defect area of all groups. In G2 and G3 there was lack of reabsorption of the biomaterial that were encapsulated by connective tissue. In conclusion, the biomaterials were biocompatible, but their specific physicochemical properties did not indicate a considerable osteoregenerative capacity.

Resumo Este estudo propõe a realização de uma revisão integrativa da literatura a partir de artigos e publicações sobre o uso do “Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT)” como instrumento de avaliação desses serviços, discutindo os resultados encontrados no Brasil e em outros países do mundo, a partir da matriz inicial concebida pela equipe da Professora Bárbara Starfield e propor atualizações para a versão brasileira. Identificaram-se 124 trabalhos; porém, após a leitura dos mesmos, foram selecionados 42, de acordo com os critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Deste subtotal, 17 (40,5%) foram estudos brasileiros. Sugere-se a necessidade da atualização de itens de cada atributo do instrumento, em particular do “acesso – primeiro contato”, incluindo novas formas de comunicação médico-paciente como: e-mail, mensagens por aplicativos em dispositivos móveis, uso de software de transmissão de vídeo para comunicação e mesmo utilização de telemedicina, entre outros. O PCAT apresenta simplicidade quanto ao uso, aplicação e cálculo dos escores, o que o torna útil e adequado para uso na gestão local dos serviços, especialmente em suas versões reduzidas em número de itens. Abstract This study proposes an integrative review of the literature based on articles and publications on the use of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) as a tool for evaluating these services, discussing the results found in Brazil and in other countries of the world, from the initial matrix conceived by Professor Barbara Starfield’s team and proposing updates for the Brazilian version. We identified 124 studies, of which 42 were selected after full reading and according to the established inclusion criteria. Of this subtotal, 17 (40.5%) were Brazilian studies. There is a need to update items of each tool’s attribute, in particular “access – first contact”, including new forms of doctor-patient communication such as: email, mobile application messages, use of videoconference software for communication and even use of telemedicine, among others. PCAT’s use, application and calculation of scores is simple, which makes it useful and suitable for use in the local management of services, especially in its short version.

Environmental conditions of grow can modify leaf structure and metabolite production. Neem plants produce a high amount of medicinal metabolites and contain biopesticide terpenoids with low toxicity. However, the high genetic variation and the low material quality, besides the environmental modifications warn to the need of biotechnological techniques to ensure the production of high quality metabolites. The aim was to investigate leaf structural and histochemical characteristics of Azadirachta indica grown in vitro, in vivo and acclimatized condition. It was found anatomical differences among the environments, with higher leaf thickness associated to in vivo conditions, as well as were more evenly distributed stomata. Those modifications did not qualitatively affect the production of medicinal metabolites and biopesticides. Terpenes and tannins were observed in specialized cells called idioblasts, located in the mesophyll and in the midrib region, respectively. Thus, in a qualitative approach, we can affirm that the different environments do not modify metabolites production. Increased production of these bioactive compounds could be achieved by isolation and in vitro culture of idioblasts as a new source of research in plant biotechnology.

This study presents an inventory of the ichthyofauna of the lower Roosevelt River sub-basin and its associated tributaries. Fish sampling with fishing nets and measurements of environmental parameters of water occurred in November/2012 (rising water), February/2013 (flooding), May/2013 (falling water) and August/2013 (drought). Depth mean was 8.86 m, water transparency was 0.6 m, conductivity was 22.7 µS.cm-1, pH was 6.59, dissolved oxygen was 7.63 mg.l-1 and temperature was 28°C. The total estimated capture area was 68,829.6 m2 during 2,880 hours. The catch per unit Effort (CPUE) was 0.37 individuals m-2.day-1. Species were spatially aggregated in all sampling points and river water levels. A total of 5,183 individuals distributed in 7 orders, 29 families, 104 genders and 188 species were sampled in this survey. The diversity index was 4.121 and equitability index was 0.789. The Characiforms order was the most abundant with 106 species, followed by Siluriforms with 63 species and Cichliforms with 23 species. The most abundant species was Serrasalmus rhombeus (Linnaeus, 1766) with 327 individuals (5.9%), followed by Chalceus epakros (Cope, 1870) with 309 individuals (5.6%) and Acestrorhynchus microlepis (Schomburgk, 1841) with 250 individuals (4.5%). Trophicity was characterized by omnivorous (28.6%), piscivorous (14.3%), carnivorous (13.8%) and detritivorous (12.8%). According to IBAMA's regulation, 29.25% of captured species presents ornamental potential. Resumo: Este estudo apresenta um inventário da ictiofauna da sub-bacia do baixo Rio Roosevelt e seus tributários associados. As coletas de peixes com malhadeiras e as medições de parâmetros ambientais da água ocorreram em Novembro/2012 (enchente), Fevereiro/2013 (cheia), Maio/2013 (vazante) e Agosto/2013 (seca). A média da profundidade foi 8,86 m, da transparência da água foi 0,6 m, da condutividade foi 22,7 µS.cm-1, do pH foi 6,59, do oxigênio dissolvido foi 7,63 mg.l-1 e da temperatura da água foi 28°C. A área total de captura estimada foi 68.829,6 m2 durante 2880 horas. A captura por unidade de esforço (CPUE) foi 0,37 indivíduos m-2.dia-1. As espécies foram espacialmente agregadas em todos os pontos de coleta e períodos de coleta. Um total de 5183 peixes em 7 ordens, 29 famílias, 104 gêneros e 188 espécies foram coletados. O índice de diversidade foi 4,121 e o índice de equidade foi 0,789. As ordens Characiforme, Siluriforme e Cichliforme foram as mais abundantes. As espécies Serrasalmus rhombeus Linnaeus 1766 com 327 indivíduos (5,9%), Chalceus epakros (Cope 1870) com 309 indivíduos (5,6%) e Acestrorhynchus microlepis Schomburgk 1841 com 250 indivíduos (4,5%) foram as mais abundantes. Os onívoros (28,6%), piscívoros (14,3%), carnívoros (13,8%) e detritívoros (12,8%) foram os indivíduos mais abundantes. De acordo com o IBAMA, 29,25% das espécies capturadas tem potencial ornamental.

Listeria is an unusual pathogen that causes neonatal infection with high morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a premature newborn whose mother had a rash during pregnancy; the newborn had severe early sepsis because of Listeria monocytogenes and histopathologically suggestive findings of the placenta. Obstetricians and neonatologists should suspect listeriosis in cases with compatible epidemiological history, clinical features, and examination findings of the placenta.

RESUMO O objetivo foi avaliar a biologia reprodutiva do camarão- sossego Macrobrachium jelskii (Miers, 1877) no Rio São Francisco, com ênfase na razão sexual, período reprodutivo, maturidade sexual e fecundidade. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente entre março de 2005 e fevereiro de 2006 exceto nos meses de abril e outubro, nos dois pontos de coleta do Rio São Francisco, Represa de Três Marias (Estação Ecológica de Pirapitinga), a montante da barragem da usina hidroelétrica de Três Marias e a jusante da barragem, localizados no município de Três Marias, região central de Minas Gerais, Brasil. O puçá de 1 m² de boca e malha de 1,42 mm foi passado sob a vegetação marginal e na água à margem dos dois pontos de coleta, por um coletor em um período de até 30 minutos. Em laboratório, os espécimes foram identificados, mensurados e sexados. Um total de 2.945 espécimes foi analisado a montante, no qual correspondem a 1.064 machos e 1.857 fêmeas (1.653 não ovígeras e 204 ovígeras) e 1.973 a jusante, onde 1.120 machos e 841 fêmeas (643 não ovígeras e 198 ovígeras). A razão sexual diferiu significativamente a favor de fêmeas de M. jelskii a montante (0,57; χ2= 215,28; p < 0.01) e a favor dos machos a jusante (1,33; χ2= 39,69; p < 0.01). Ambas as populações possuem um período reprodutivo contínuo-sazonal com pico em janeiro e novembro para os camarões a montante e a jusante, respectivamente. A fecundidade média de M. jelskii foi de 37 ± 14 ovos (5 a 78 ovos) a montante da barragem e de 35 ± 14 ovos (5 a 69 ovos) a jusante. A razão sexual desviada para os machos de M. jelskii à jusante sugere que as fêmeas apresentaram o comportamento de se abrigarem entre as vegetações marginais. A razão sexual desviada para as fêmeas a montante demonstra a real proporção de machos e fêmeas, que pode ser considerada para a espécie no Rio São Francisco. O tamanho dos ovos carregados pelas fêmeas a jusante foi influenciado pelas baixas temperaturas da água proveniente da represa.

Vancomycin (VCM) is indicated in combat against Gram-positive infections, but it is not considered a first-choice drug because of its adverse effects. It is believed that oxidative stress is the primary mechanism of endothelial injury and the consequent VCM toxicity, which varies from phlebitis to nephrotoxicity. Moreover, dose recommendations, dilution, rates and types of infusion are still controversial. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different VCM dilutions in endothelial, liver and kidney injuries by biochemical parameters and histopathological analysis. Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups and subjected to femoral vein cannulation for drug administration. Control groups received 0.9 ml of saline and the others received VCM (10mg/Kg/day) at dilutions of 5.0 and 10.0 mg/mL for 3 and 7 days. Homocysteine, hs-CRP, AST, ALT, GGT, urea, creatinine, lycopene, alpha-tocopherol, beta-carotene and retinol were analyzed. Kidney, liver and cannulated femoral vein fragments were collected.This study showed alterations in ALT which featured hepatotoxicity. However, drug dilutions were not able to show changes in other biochemical parameters. In contrast, kidney and endothelium pathological changes were observed. More studies are needed to characterize VCM induced kidney and endothelium toxicity and biochemical markers able to show such morphological modifications. A Vancomicina (VCM) é indicada no combate à infecções por Gram-positivas, porém não é considerada um agente de primeira escolha por causa dos seus efeitos adversos. Acredita-se que o estresse oxidativo é o principal mecanismo responsável pela lesão endotelial e consequente toxicidade da VCM, que varia desde flebites à nefrotoxicidade. Ademais, as recomendações de doses, diluições, taxas e tipos de infusão ainda são controversos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o efeito de diferentes diluições de VCM na lesão endotelial, hepática e renal utilizando parâmetros bioquímicos e análise histopatológica. Ratos Wistar foram divididos aleatoriamente em seis grupos e submetidos à canulação da veia femoral para a administração de medicamentos. Os grupos controle receberam 0,9 ml de salina e os outros receberam VCM (10mg/Kg/dia) nas diluições de 5.0 e 10.0 mg/ml durante 3 e 7 dias. Homocisteína, PCR-us, AST, ALT, GGT, ureia, creatinina, licopeno, alfa-tocoferol, beta-caroteno e retinol foram analisados. Fragmentos de rins, fígado e veia femoral canulada foram coletados. Este estudo mostrou alterações na ALT, caracterizando hepatotoxicidade. Entretanto, as diluições dos medicamentos não foram capazes de evidenciar alterações nos outros parâmetros bioquímicos. Por outro lado, alterações histopatológicas foram observadas nos rins e endotélio. Mais estudos são necessários para a caracterização do efeito da VCM quanto à toxicidade nos rins e endotélio e ainda na busca de marcadores bioquímicos capazes de evidenciar tais alterações morfológicas.

O artigo não contém resumo em português. The use of cell and plant tissues culture techniques to produce economically important active metabolites has been growing. Among these substances, azadirachtin (AZA), produced by the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), has received considerable attention due to its bioinsecticide action. The main goal of this work was to analyze the AZA levels in neem cotyledonary calli. The calli were grown in agitated Woody Plant Medium (WPM) liquid medium, supplemented with glucose (Gl), hydrolyzed casein (HC) and methyl jasmonate (MeJ) as elicitor agent. An interaction was observed between these substances, depending on in vitro cultivation time with orbital agitation. The highest concentrations (average of 0.2470 µg g-1) of AZA were produced in the first and second weeks of culture when the cell mass was grown in a medium with 2% Gl v/v, 500 mg L-1 HC and 100 µM of MeJ. This corresponded to approximately 57% of the AZA content stored in the donor plants seeds, used as a source of explants to induce in vitro callus formation. It was concluded that the nutrition, as well as the concentration of MeJ as signal transduction of secondary metabolism in neem cells, might influence the AZA content produced in vitro.

Defeitos foram criados no crânio de 30 ratos e preenchidos com enxerto autógeno e FS derivado do veneno de cobra. Imediatamente após implantação, foi aplicado laser de baixa potência na área cirúrgica. Os animais foram divididos em grupo controle com autógeno (G1), autógeno e laser 5 J/cm2 (G2), autógeno e laser 7J/cm2 (G3), autógeno e FS (G4), autógeno, FS e laser 5J/cm2 (G5), autógeno, FS e laser 7J/cm2 (G6). Os animais foram sacrificados 6 semanas após implante. Resultados mostraram ausência de infiltrado inflamatório no defeito ósseo. Neoformação óssea ocorreu em todos os grupos, entretanto, foi mais intenso em G6. Desta maneira, o FS e laser 7J/cm2 mostraram capacidade osteocondutiva e podem ser um interessante recurso a ser aplicado nas cirurgias de reconstrução óssea. This study evaluated the osteogenic capacity of a new fibrin sealant (FS) combined with bone graft and laser irradiation in the bone repair. Defects were created in the skull of 30 rats and filled with autogenous graft and FS derived from snake venom. Immediately after implantation, low-power laser was applied on the surgical site. The animals were divided in: control group with autogenous graft (G1), autogenous graft and laser 5 J/cm2 (G2), autogenous graft and laser 7 J/cm2 (G3), autogenous graft and FS (G4), autogenous graft, FS and laser 5 J/cm2 (G5), autogenous graft, FS and laser 7 J/cm2 (G6). The animals were sacrificed 6 weeks after implant. Results showed absence of inflammatory infiltrate in the bone defect. New bone formation occurred in all groups, but it was most intense in G6. Thus, the FS and laser 7 J/cm2 showed osteoconductive capacity and can be an interesting resource to be applied in surgery of bone reconstruction. The presence of asymptomatic third molars can represent a potential problem in the mandible when these teeth are retained and the patient has lost all normally erupted teeth. Once the mandibular first and second molars are removed, the mandibular body becomes weaker with time, increasing the complexity, morbidity and incidence of complication in the surgical procedure to remove the retained third molar. This paper reports a case where the mandibular third molars retained in a severely resorbed mandible were removed in a 54-year-old female patient. The treatment plan was based on the safe surgical removal of the teeth and prosthetic rehabilitation with an implant-supported milled bar overdenture and a bone-mucous-supported complete denture in the mandibular and maxillary arch, respectively. If the removal of a retained third molar is indicated in a severely resorbed edentulous mandible, the treatment plan must involve not only preventive measures in order to avoid mandible fracture during or after tooth removal, but also alternatives that allow an adequate mandibular rehabilitation. A presença de terceiros molares inclusos assintomáticos pode representar um grande problema quando estes dentes encontram-se inclusos em um paciente desdentado total. Uma vez que os primeiros e segundos molares foram extraídos, o corpo mandibular torna-se mais frágil com o passar do tempo, o que aumenta a complexidade, a morbidade e a incidência de complicações nas cirurgias de remoção de terceiros molares inclusos. Neste artigo é apresentado um caso de uma paciente de 54 anos de idade com severa reabsorção do osso mandibular onde os terceiros molares mandibulares encontravam-se inclusos e com necessidade de extração. O plano de tratamento objetivou a extração segura dos dentes e a reabilitação mandibular com o uso de uma prótese implanto-suportada. Se a extração dos terceiros molares inclusos é indicada em pacientes que apresentam mandíbula atrófica, o plano de tratamento deve incluir não apenas as medidas preventivas com o intuito de prevenir a fratura da mandíbula durante ou após a remoção dos dentes, mas também alternativas de tratamento que possibilitem uma adequada reabilitação.

O presente artigo analisa a prática de subsídios à agricultura no comércio internacional, tendo como principal objetivo dimensionar a sua prática enquanto instrumento econômico estratégico para o setor agrícola, especialmente para os Estados Unidos e a União Europeia. Uma completa proibição dos subsídios não é desejável porque sua prática, em essência, constitui uma alternativa à busca do bem-estar social da nação. Contudo, a utilização dos subsídios agrícolas, na forma como vêm sendo praticados, constituem-se em intervenções de cunho protecionista que provocam distorções no comércio internacional. Sendo os Estados Unidos e a União Europeia as nações que mais os utilizam no comércio internacional, tem-se gerado preocupações sobre sua própria eficiência enquanto instrumento de política comercial estratégica para o comércio internacional. This study examines the practice of agricultural subsidies in international trade, aiming at scaling its practice as a strategic economic tool primarily for the agricultural sector, especially to the United States and the European Union. A complete ban on subsidies is not desirable because its practice, in essence, is a path to improve the welfare of the nation. However, the way the agricultural subsidies have been employed, constitute protectionist interventions that distort international trade. The United States and the European Union are the major users of this instrument in international trade, a factor that has raised concerns about their own efficiency as a strategic trade policy for international trade.

Plantas de Laelia purpurata var. cárnea propagadas in vitro e mantidas em sala de crescimento e em casa de vegetação foram submetidas a diferentes intensidades e qualidade espectral de luz, envolvidas com diferentes malhas coloridas: azul, vermelha e preta. Foi observado que a intensidade e qualidade espectral de luz interferiram de forma significativa em todos os parâmetros analisados, aos 120 dias de cultivo. Plantas cultivadas sob malha azul em sala de crescimento e casa de vegetação apresentaram maior espessamento da epiderme na face adaxial (31,73 e 35,46µm), respectivamente, diferindo estatisticamente quando comparado com os demais tratamentos. Foi observado aumento significativo no número de camadas de células do velame em raízes de plantas cultivadas em casa de vegetação, independente da malha de sombreamento, quando comparadas com as de sala de crescimento. Em secções transversais de raízes de plantas cultivadas em casa de vegetação sob malha azul, foi observada maior diferenciação dos tecidos (velame, exoderme, córtex e cilindro vascular). in vitro propagated orchid (Laelia purpurata var. cárnea) were maintained in a growth chamber in a greenhouse and subjected to different spectral intensities and quality of light, using different colored shade-net (blue, red and black). It was observed that the light intensity and spectral quality influenced significantly all the parameters analyzed at 120 days of cultivation. Plants cultivated under blue color shade net at growth chamber and greenhouse presented higher thickening of epidermis on the adaxial face (31.73 and 35.46µm), respectively, and were statistically different when compared with other treatments. It was observed a significant increase in the number of velamen cell layers in plant roots grown in the greenhouse, regardless of the color shade-net used when compared with plants cultivated at growth chamber. It was observed a higher differentiation of tissues (canopy, exodermis, cortex and vascular cylinder) in cross sections plant roots grown in greenhouse under blue shade-net.

Este é um relato de experiência de acadêmicos de enfermagem em uma atividade de Educação em Saúde no Trânsito que objetivou sensibilizar adolescentes estudantes de ensino médio quanto à relação perigosa do consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e os acidentes de trânsito. Aproximadamente 150 estudantes de 14 a 19 anos participaram da atividade, que foi composta por exibição de vídeo, palestra, discussão e distribuição de material educativo. Com esta experiência, os acadêmicos de enfermagem puderam vivenciar um trabalho de Extensão Universitária com enfoque na prevenção de agravos na comunidade e concluíram que o profissional enfermeiro pode desempenhar um papel importante na prevenção dos acidentes de trânsito envolvendo uso de álcool; entretanto, este tema precisa ser mais trabalhado durante sua formação. This is a nursing students' experience in a health education activity about traffic aimed to sensitize young high school students about the dangerous relationship between alcohol consumption and traffic accidents. Approximately 150 students between 14´s and 19´s participated in the activity, which was composed of video displaying, lecture, discussion, and distribution of educational material. With this experience, nursing students could experience a work of University Extension, focusing on disease prevention in the community and concluded that the professional nurse can act in an important role in the prevention of traffic accidents involving alcohol use; however, this issue needs to be more emphasized during their academic training. Esta es una experiencia de estudiantes de enfermería en una actividad de Educación en Salud del Tránsito, para sensibilizar jóvenes estudiantes de la enseñanza media sobre la peligrosa relación de consumo de alcohol y accidentes de tránsito. Aproximadamente 150 estudiantes de 14-19 años participaron en la actividad que fue compuesta de exhibición de vídeo, conferencia, debate, y distribución de material educativo. Con esta experiencia, los estudiantes de enfermería pudieron experimentar una actividad de Extensión de la Universidad, centrándose en la prevención de enfermedades en la comunidad. La conclusión fue que el profesional de enfermería puede desempeñar un papel importante en la prevención de los accidentes de tránsito relacionados con el uso de alcohol; sin embargo, esta cuestión debe ser trabajada más durante su formación.
