Resumo Os agentes comunitários de saúde (ACS) compuseram uma força de trabalho na linha de frente dos sistemas de saúde no combate a COVID-19. O trabalho identificou as condições estruturais para organização e caracterização do trabalho dos ACS em três municípios do Nordeste brasileiro no período pandêmico. Realizou-se um estudo qualitativo de casos múltiplos. Foram entrevistados 28 sujeitos entre agentes comunitários e gestores municipais. A produção dos dados cotejou as entrevistas com a análise documental. As categorias operacionais que emergiram da análise dos dados foram: condições estruturais e características das atividades. Os resultados deste estudo revelaram escassez nas condições estruturais das unidades de saúde, que durante a pandemia passou por adaptações improvisadas em seus espaços internos. Quanto às características do trabalho, evidenciaram-se ações permeadas por aspectos burocráticos de cunho administrativo no interior das unidades de saúde, acarretando o esvaziamento de sua função vincular de articulação territorial e mobilização comunitária. Assim, as alterações em seu trabalho podem ser vistas como sinalizadores da fragilização do sistema de saúde e, especialmente, da atenção primária à saúde.

The community health agents (CHAs) comprised the workforce at the forefront of health systems in the fight against COVID-19. The study identified the structural conditions for organizing and characterizing the work of CHAs in three municipalities of northeastern Brazil during the pandemic period. A qualitative study of multiple cases was carried out. Twenty-eight subjects were interviewed, including community agents and municipal managers. Data production assessed the interviews with document analysis. The operational categories that emerged from the data analysis were: structural conditions and characteristics of the activities. The results of this study disclosed the scarcity of the structural conditions in the health units, which during the pandemic made improvised adaptations of the internal spaces. As for the work characteristics, actions permeated by bureaucratic aspects of an administrative nature were evidenced in the health units, resulting in the elimination of their binding function of territorial articulation and community mobilization. Thus, changes in their work can be seen as signs of the fragility of the health system and, especially, of primary health care.

The objective of this study was to assess seed health and the effect of plant extracts on Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum mycelial growth and sporulation, plant pathogen reduction in seeds and fusariosis control in okra seedlings. Health was assessed by the Blotter Test, after immersing the seeds in natural extracts and plating. To verify the mycelial growth of the plant pathogen, the extracts were incorporated in PDA culture medium and the pathogen was added and assessed, including the spore count. In the greenhouse, the seeds were immersed in the extracts, sown and at 15 days they were sprayed with extracts, at 21 days inoculated with the pathogen and disease severity on the seedlings was assessed 7 days later. There were higher incidences of Fusarium sp. and Rhizopus stolonifer in the seeds of the cultivars Valença and Santa Cruz 47. The extracts that resulted in lower pathogen incidence was basil, in cv. Valença and cinnamon and neem, in cv. Santa Cruz 47. The neem treatment presented the best inhibition percentage and the lowest sporulation mean in mycelial growth of the pathogen. Neem presented higher disease incidence control in the seedlings of cv. Valença and basil on the seedlings of cv. Santa Cruz 47.

The objective of the present work was to compare selection indexes focused on the selection of forage cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) accessions at initial generations. Sixty-five accessions from different locations in the semiarid region of the state of Bahia, Brazil, were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Agronomic and bromatological traits were evaluated. The genetic parameters were predicted by using mixed models (REML/BLUP). The linear correlation degree between variables was estimated through Pearson's correlation analysis. Selection gains were predicted using four selection indexes: Smith-Hazel index, with two combinations of economic weights; rank sum index of Mulamba and Mock; and Elston's multiplicative index. The selection intensity applied was 30%, which allowed the selection of the 20 best accessions. The analysis of deviance showed significant effect for all traits. The estimate of genetic parameters evidenced the existence of genetic variability for the O. ficus-indica accessions. The Smith-Hazel index (combination 1) was important for primary (fresh weight and cladode dry weight) and bromatological traits (acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber), expressing higher selection gains than the other indexes. The rank sum and multiplicative indexes resulted in selection gains for most evaluated traits. The results of accessions 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, 15, 18, 26, 27, 34, 37, 38, 39, 41, 45, 49, 51, 52, 53, and 58 were promising for their inclusion in breeding programs, as they were selected by at least two of the four selection indexes used.

Objective: To evaluate the positive predictive value (PPV) of amorphous calcifications and to analyze the imaging variables that could alter the risk of malignancy associated with this finding. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study of 138 stereotactically guided percutaneous vacuum-assisted biopsies of amorphous calcifications, performed between January 2012 and December 2017. All of the patients included were referred for radiological follow-up for a minimum of one year (if the histopathology showed a benign lesion) or for surgical treatment (if the histopathology showed malignancy or a lesion of uncertain malignant potential). Results: We found that the PPV of amorphous calcifications was 9.42%. However, most of the malignant amorphous calcifications were in cases of invasive carcinoma or high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ, indicating clinically relevant disease. The relative risk of malignancy associated with amorphous calcifications was 6.15 times higher in patients with a family or personal history of breast or ovarian cancer. Neither being postmenopausal nor having dense breasts was found to be predictive of malignancy in patients with amorphous calcifications. Conclusion: Amorphous calcifications in the breast had a PPV for malignancy of 9.42%, indicating the possibility of placing the finding in subcategory 4a, which requires histopathological analysis. Our finding that the risk of malignancy associated with this subtype of calcifications is up to 6.15 times higher in patients with a family or personal history of breast cancer warrants greater concern regarding the clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic correlations after biopsy. Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar o valor preditivo positivo (VPP) das calcificações amorfas e possíveis variáveis clínicas e de imagem que possam influenciar no risco de malignidade deste achado de imagem. Materiais e Métodos: Foram revisados, retrospectivamente, 138 resultados de biópsias percutâneas estereotáxicas a vácuo de calcificações amorfas, entre janeiro de 2012 e dezembro de 2017. Todas as pacientes incluídas apresentavam seguimento radiológico mínimo de um ano (histopatológico benigno) ou tratamento cirúrgico (histopatológico maligno). Resultados: O VPP das calcificações amorfas foi de 9,42%. As lesões malignas corresponderam predominantemente a carcinomas invasivos, indicando doença clinicamente relevante. O risco relativo de malignidade das calcificações amorfas foi 6,15 vezes maior em pacientes com história familiar ou pessoal de neoplasia de mama ou ovário. Conclusão: As calcificações amorfas na mama apresentaram VPP de malignidade de 9,42%, sugerindo possibilidade de classificação do achado na subcategoria 4a, com necessidade de investigação histopatológica. Em pacientes com história familiar ou pessoal de câncer de mama, o risco de malignidade deste subtipo de calcificações pode ser até 6,15 vezes maior, justificando maior preocupação na correlação clínica, radiológica e histopatológica após biópsia.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has several mechanisms of action related to inflammatory responses, especially in individuals diagnosed with obesity. This hyperinflammatory clinical profile resulting from the association between obesity and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be attenuated by regular physical activity. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to review the evidence on the consequences of physical inactivity and physical activity on COVID-19 in patients with obesity. DESIGN AND SETTING: Narrative review at the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health in Salvador, Brazil. METHODS: We searched evidence on the association of COVID-19 with physical activity and obesity using the following keywords: “covid-19,” “physical activity,” and “obesity”. The databases used were MEDLINE (PubMed), ScienceDirect, and Virtual Health Library. Studies published from 2019 to 2021 and available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were included. The final search was conducted on September 26, 2021. RESULTS: We identified 661 studies in the database, among which 71 were considered for inclusion in the narrative review of the molecular aspects of COVID-19 and its relationship with physical activity and obesity. CONCLUSION: This literature review enabled the perception of the relationship between the molecular mechanisms of COVID-19 and obesity. Regular physical activity had various benefits for the inflammatory condition of the studied population, highlighting moderate-intensity.

Resumo A formação inicial de professores de matemática é discutida a partir do confronto das estatísticas dos cursos de licenciatura do Brasil com os relatos de uma amostra de formadores de professores. Metodologicamente, essa pesquisa apresenta um estudo descritivo que fez uso da estatística descritiva para coletar e analisar dados do ensino superior brasileiro, no período compreendido entre 2000 e 2019, a partir de uma pesquisa documental e da análise temática para analisar entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com uma amostra não probabilística de coordenadores de curso e coordenadores de subprojetos do PIBID. Os resultados mostram que o crescimento das vagas não foi acompanhado pelo aumento de ingressos, o que ampliou as vagas ociosas. No setor privado, constatou-se que está havendo uma substituição da modalidade presencial pela modalidade a distância. Esta modalidade, inclusive, cresceu mais do que a presencial, ultrapassando-a em 2007 e tornando-se a modalidade de ensino preferencial para a formação de professores de matemática no Brasil. Os participantes da pesquisa entrevistados apresentaram opiniões muito positivas sobre o PIBID, indicando que este reduz a evasão e as vagas ociosas, mas não impacta na retenção dos alunos no curso. O confronto desses relatos com os dados estatísticos mostra que, apesar de necessário, o PIBID não foi suficiente. Além de não atender a totalidade dos alunos, essa política não contempla fatores extrínsecos que impactam na atratividade da carreira docente, tal que mudanças estruturais nas escolas e nas condições de trabalho dos professores são exigências para que haja uma melhora na formação de professores de matemática.

SUMMARY BACKGROUND: Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on automatic mechanical ventilation have greater heart rate modulation with greater parasympathetic modulation. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the autonomic modulation of heart rate in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on invasive mechanical ventilation. METHODS: A cross-section study was carried out with 36 individuals divided into two groups. The control group included patients of both genders, in orotracheal intubation with invasive mechanical ventilation under controlled assisted mode, hospitalized in the intensive care unit for another 24 h. In the non-COVID group, patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 in the same condition mentioned in the control group. RESULTS: There was a significant increase in heart rate variability (standard deviation of all normal RR intervals recorded at an interval of time; p=0.001; triangular interpolation histogram of RR intervals; p=0.048; and SD2; p=0.014) in the coronavirus disease group compared to the non-COVID group. Resumo O estudo teve como objetivo a revisão de trabalhos científicos publicados sobre a hanseníase como problema de saúde pública no Brasil e o marcador de vulnerabilidade para os portadores da enfermidade. Foi realizada uma scoping review com o descritor “hanseníase AND vulnerabilidade” na base de dados da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Foram selecionados 29 artigos publicados entre janeiro de 2016 e dezembro de 2020 que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. Os resultados apontaram para trabalhos científicos publicados em revistas indexadas e com diferentes fatores de impacto, com destaque para a maioria das publicações selecionadas constarem em periódicos com métricas de impacto pouco significativas aos olhos da comunidade internacional, ainda que elas tenham impacto nacional. A maioria dos estudos teve abrangência municipal, com destaque para cidades do Norte e do Nordeste brasileiro. Os trabalhos trataram a vulnerabilidade na hanseníase utilizando distintas tipologias.

Clarice Lispector’s entry as an author into the United States happens at different moments, beginning in the 1950s, with the translation of several short stories, carried out among others by Elizabeth Bishop, culminating with a biography of the author written in English by Benjamin Moser in 2009, and a little later, with the publication of the short stories and other pieces, in the emblematic edition entitled The Complete Stories, in 2015, edited by Benjamin Moser and translated by Katrina Dodson. These publications put the translators in the spotlight, as they were responsible for renewing Clarice’s presence on American soil. This paper aims to research the translators of Clarice Lispector’s works in the English-speaking cultural system, considering only the American context. The aim is to highlight these professional figures who contributed to the dissemination of this important Brazilian writer abroad, analyze their profile, and also examine their presence and imprint on some of the translations performed, such as prefaces, postscripts, notes, etc., assessing the degree of visibility and invisibility (Venuti 2021). By considering the relevance of translators as social actors/dialogical bodies (Robinson, 1991, 2012) and as “translating subjects” (Berman, 1995) and the fact that English translations of Clarice’s works have influenced and stimulated the circulation of this author in other literary systems, by examining the biobibliographical profile, verifying its presence or not in the paratexts (Genette, 2009/Batchelor, 2018) of Clarice Lispector’s English-language translators and their translation position, as well as their project and horizon (Berman, 1995), we gain an understanding of the translation policies of a given cultural polysystem. RESUMO A inserção de Clarice Lispector nos Estados Unidos acontece em diferentes momentos, iniciando na década de 1950, com a tradução de alguns contos, realizada entre outros por Elizabeth Bishop, culminando com uma biografia da autora escrita em inglês por Benjamin Moser, em 2009, e um pouco mais tarde, com a publicação dos contos e outros textos, na emblemática edição intitulada The Complete Stories, de 2015, com organização de Benjamin Moser e tradução de Katrina Dodson. Essas publicações colocam em evidência os tradutores, pois são os responsáveis por renovar a presença de Clarice em solo americano. Por isso, o presente artigo visa investigar os tradutores das obras de Clarice Lispector no sistema cultural anglófono, considerando apenas o contexto estadunidense. O objetivo é dar destaque a esses profissionais que contribuíram para a divulgação da literatura dessa importante escritora brasileira no exterior, analisar o seu perfil e também examinar a presença de suas marcas em algumas das traduções realizadas, como prefácios, posfácios, notas etc., verificando o grau de visibilidade e invisibilidade (Venuti 2021). Assim, considerando a relevância dos tradutores como atores sociais/corpos dialógicos (Robinson, 1991, 2012) e como “sujeitos traduzintes” (Berman, 1995) e o fato das traduções em inglês das obras de Clarice influenciaram e estimularam o trânsito e a circulação dessa autora em outros sistemas literários, conhecer o perfil biobibliográfico, verificando a sua presença ou não nos paratextos (Genette, 2009/Batchelor, 2018) do(a)s tradutore(a)s de língua inglesa de Clarice Lispector e sua posição tradutiva, além de seu projeto e horizonte (Berman, 1995) ajuda a compreender as políticas de tradução de um determinado polissistema cultural.

We report two cases of hemochromatosis-like disease in captive Brazilian tapirs, Tapirus terrestris in Pará state, Brazil. Both animals presented symptoms of chronic hepatopathy associated with marked accumulation of hemosiderin. The coloration of Perls demonstrated pronounced iron accumulation in macrophages in the portal space, Kupffer cells, and, to a lesser extent, in the hepatocytes of the periportal region. Marked portal fibrosis was evidenced by Masson’s trichrome. The pathological mechanisms of this disease in tapirs are not yet well established. It has been suggested that the species may have different mechanisms of iron absorption and elimination, rendering them sensitive to elevation in dietary levels of this metal. Two previous reports of this disease in T. terrestris exist from zoos in Australia and Scotland. This is the first report of this disease in tapirs in Brazil based on histopathological and histochemical findings.

The institutions of the federal educational network have their own health team and, therefore, have the possibility of developing multiple strategies for the implementation of School Health Program actions. This study aimed to systematize and synthesize the scientific production developed by workers from the federal educational network on adolescent health in the school environment. This is a qualitative meta-synthesis carried out from searches on the Virtual Health Library, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, and Google. Content analysis was used for data analysis. The sample consisted of 15 publications and 4 thematic units emerged: pedagogical integration of health education in federal institutes; conception of adolescence and adolescent health in the school environment in federal institutes; perspectives of health work in federal institutes with adolescents; and facilities and difficulties in the development of adolescent health in the school environment in federal institutes. It was found that the scientific production on the subject is still incipient. Even in federal institutes, it is necessary to advance in the methodology of activities and in the topics of health education developed. It is necessary to stimulate youth protagonism, transcending the hygienist and fragmented aspects of school health.

RESUMO As instituições da rede federal de ensino possuem equipe de saúde própria e, portanto, têm a possibilidade de desenvolver múltiplas estratégias para a implantação de ações do Programa Saúde na Escola. Este estudo teve por objetivo sistematizar e sintetizar a produção científica desenvolvida por trabalhadores da rede federal de ensino sobre saúde do adolescente no âmbito escolar. Trata-se de uma metassíntese qualitativa realizada a partir de buscas no portal da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, da Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações e do Google. A análise de conteúdo foi empregada para análise dos dados. A amostra foi composta por 15 publicações. Assim, quatro unidades temáticas emergiram: integração pedagógica da educação em saúde nos institutos federais; concepção de adolescência e saúde do adolescente no âmbito escolar nos institutos federais; perspectivas do trabalho em saúde nos institutos federais com adolescentes; e facilidades e dificuldades no desenvolvimento da saúde do adolescente no âmbito escolar nos institutos federais. Constatou-se que a produção científica sobre a temática ainda é incipiente. Mesmo em institutos federais, é necessário avançar na metodologia das atividades e nos temas de educação em saúde desenvolvidos. Torna-se necessário estimular o protagonismo juvenil transcendendo os aspectos higienistas e fragmentados da saúde escolar. Resumo Esta investigação teve como objetivo caracterizar as mulheres que realizaram o pré-natal no Brasil segundo raça/cor e variáveis sociodemográficas e verificar associação entre os indicadores de processo do cuidado no pré-natal e a raça/cor das mulheres. Estudo transversal de base populacional empreendido com dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde de 2013. Realizou-se análise bivariada mediante modelo de regressão logística multinível, estimando-se as odds ratio para medir a associação entre os indicadores de processo do cuidado pré-natal adequado e raça/cor das mulheres e verificando os respectivos intervalos de confiança de 95%. Os achados evidenciaram que mulheres negras possuem menor chance de iniciar o pré-natal antes das 12 semanas de gestação, ter seis ou mais consultas, realizar teste de HIV, exame VDRL e receber orientações referentes aos cuidados na gestação e parto. Identificamos desigualdades na atenção à saúde das mulheres brasileiras atendidas no pré-natal relacionadas à raça/cor e a outras características sociodemográficas. Conclui-se que ser negra e ocupar lugares sociais desfavoráveis acarretam desvantagens para as mulheres quanto ao acesso a um pré-natal considerado adequado segundo os critérios estabelecidos pelo Ministério da Saúde do Brasil. Abstract The study aimed to characterize women that attended prenatal care in Brazil according to ethnicity/skin color and sociodemographic variables and to verify the association between the indicators of the prenatal care process and the women’s ethnicity/skin color. This was a population based, cross-sectional study carried out with data from the National Health Survey of 2013. A bivariate analysis was performed using the multilevel logistic regression model, estimating the odds ratio and the respective 95% confidence intervals to test the association between the indicators of the adequate prenatal care process and the women’s ethnicity/skin color. The findings showed that black women have a lower chance of starting prenatal care before 12 weeks of gestation, having 6 or more consultations, performing the HIV test, performing the VDRL exam or receiving advice related to care during gestation and childbirth. Inequalities were identified in the healthcare of Brazilian women during prenatal care, related to ethnicity/skin color and other sociodemographic characteristics. It was concluded that being of black ethnicity and living in a socially disadvantaged area entails disadvantages for women regarding access to a prenatal care considered to be adequate according to the criteria established by the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

Quantifying soil gas emissions is costly, since it requires specific methodologies and equipment. The objective of this study was to evaluate modeling by nonlinear regression and artificial neural networks (ANN) to estimate CO2 emissions caused by soil managements. CO2 emissions were evaluated in two different soil management systems: no-tillage and minimum tillage. Readings of CO2 flow were carried out by an automated closed system chamber; soil temperature, water content, density, and total organic carbon were also determined. The regression model and the ANN models were adjusted based on the correlation of the variables measured in the areas where the soil was managed with no-tillage and minimum tillage with data of CO2 emission. Artificial neural networks are more accurate to determine correlations between CO2 emissions and soil temperature, water content, density, and organic carbon content than linear regression. RESUMO A quantificação das emissões destes gases do solo é onerosa, uma vez que requer metodologias e equipamentos específicos. O objetivo deste foi avaliar a modelagem utilizando regressão não linear e redes neurais artificiais para estimar a emissão de CO2 em função do manejo do solo, e de suas propriedades físicas e químicas. A emissão de CO2 foi avaliada em dois diferentes manejos do solo, o plantio direto e o cultivo mínimo. As leituras de fluxo CO2 foram realizadas por meio de uma câmara de sistema fechado automático, determinou-se ainda a temperatura e teor de água do solo, densidade do solo e carbono orgânico total. O modelo de regressão e os modelos de redes neurais artificiais foram ajustados a partir da correlação entre as variáveis medidas nas áreas em que o solo foi manejado com plantio direto e cultivo mínimo, com os dados de emissão de CO2. As redes neurais artificiais são mais precisas na determinação das relações entre a emissão de CO2 e a temperatura, teor de água no solo, densidade do solo e carbono orgânico, quando comparado com os resultados de regressão linear.

Objetivo: identificar as formas, expressões e as(os) praticantes da violência intrafamiliar presenciada e/ou vivenciada por adolescentes escolares. Método: estudo de corte transversal, de cunho descritivo, realizado em uma escola pública de Salvador, Bahia – Brasil, com 230 adolescentes escolares em novembro de 2018. O banco de dados foi arquivado com utilização do programa Microsoft Excel, e as frequências foram mensuradas por meio do teste de qui-quadrado. Resultados: o estudo mostra que 121 (52,6%) adolescentes experienciam a violência intrafamiliar nas formas psicológica, física e sexual. Dentre os tipos de violência vivenciados pelos adolescentes, a psicológica (49,5%) e física (55,7%) foram mais perpetradas por pai/mãe e a sexual (75,9%) foi comumente referida por outros parentes. Conclusão: os achados deste estudo contribuem para dar visibilidade às formas de expressão da violência intrafamiliar vivenciada e presenciada pela população infantojuvenil.

Objective: to identify the forms, expressions, and the practitioners of intrafamily violence witnessed and/or experienced by adolescent students. Method: cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in a public school in Salvador, Bahia - Brazil, with 230 adolescent students in November 2018. The database was archived using the Microsoft Excel program, and frequencies were measured using the chi-square test. Results: the study shows that 121 (52.6%) adolescents experience intra-family violence in psychological, physical, and sexual forms. Among the types of violence experienced by the adolescents, psychological (49.5%) and physical (55.7%) violence were most perpetrated by father/mother and sexual (75.9%) violence was commonly reported by other relatives. Conclusion: the findings of this study contribute to give visibility to the forms of expression of intrafamily violence experienced and witnessed by the child and youth population.

This article presents a comparative analysis between the human rights described in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Organic Laws 8,080/1990 and 8,142/1990, which regulate the Brazilian Unified Health System. The three documents were related and compared, the first, an international one and the other two of national character, to identify humanistic and ethical values in the legal framework of Brazilian public health. Discussions on this topic are fundamental so health professionals can identify the gaps between theory and hospital practice, thus ensuring the rights of patients.

Resumo Este artigo realiza uma análise comparativa entre os direitos humanos descritos na Declaração Universal de Direitos Humanos e as Leis Orgânicas 8.080/1990 e 8.142/1990, que regulamentam o Sistema Único de Saúde. O método se baseou na associação e comparação dos três documentos, sendo o primeiro de nível internacional e os demais de cunho nacional, a fim de identificar valores humanísticos e éticos nas bases legais da saúde pública brasileira. Discussões acerca dessa temática são fundamentais para que profissionais da saúde identifiquem lacunas entre teoria e prática hospitalar e, dessa forma, garantam os direitos dos pacientes.
