United States Steel (US Steel) has signed an agreement with CarbonFree to capture CO2 emissions from its Gary Works Blast Furnaces. CarbonFree will capture and mineralize up to 50,000 metric tons of carbon annually, with the potential for expansion in the future. The SkyCycle process will convert the captured emissions into carbon-neutral calcium carbonate, which can be used in various industries. Construction on the SkyCycle plant is expected to begin this summer, with operations projected to start in 2026. US Steel aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 20% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) has agreed to acquire US Steel in a $14.1 billion all-cash transaction, subject to approval. [Extracted from the article]
