Many Western commentators fail to realize that the large body of Russian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's work reflects a deep commitment to spiritualism and Orthodox Christianity. Solzhenitsyn's thinking is decidedly Slavophile in character, rejecting an excessive emphasis on westernization and stressing the uniqueness of Russian development and traditions in the European context.
