Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is among the most prevalent digestive system malignancies and is associated with a poor prognosis. Necroptosis, a form of regulated death mediated by death receptors, exhibits characteristics of both necrosis and apoptosis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as crucial regulators in tumor necroptosis. This study aims to identify the necroptosis-related lncRNAs (np-lncRNA) in HCC and investigate their relationships with prognosis., Method: The RNA-sequencing data, along with clinicopathological and survival information of HCC patients were sourced from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The np-lncRNAs were analyzed to assess their potential in predicting HCC prognosis. Prognostic signatures related to necroptosis were constructed using stepwise multivariate Cox regression analysis. The prognosis of patients was compared using Kaplan-Meier (KM) analysis. The accuracy of the prognostic signature was evaluated using Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) was employed to validate the lncRNAs expression levels of lncRNAs among samples from an independent cohort., Results: The np-lncRNAs ZFPM2-AS1, AC099850.3, BACE1-AS, KDM4A-AS1 and MKLN1-AS were identified as potential prognostic biomarkers. The prognostic signature constructed from these np-lncRNAs achieved an Area Under the Curve (AUC) of 0.773. Based on the risk score derived from the signature, patients were divided into two groups, with the high-risk group exhibiting poorer overall survival. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) revealed significantly different between the low risk and high risk groups in tumor-related pathways (such as mTOR, MAPK and p53 signaling pathways) and immune-related functions (like T cell receptor signaling pathway and natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity). The increased expression of np-lncRNAs was confirmed in another independent HCC cohort., Conclusions: This signature offers a dependable method for forecasting the prognosis of HCC patients. Introduction: Road traffic injuries stands as a major concern globally, as they result in significant loss of life, economic impact, and erode trust in government and societal safety. The influence of weather on road traffic safety is undeniable, impacting road conditions, individuals, and vehicles. However, the specific influence of weather on road traffic casualties has seldom been explored., Method: This study assesses the effect of weather factors on road traffic casualties in China from 2006 to 2021. Vector error correction models (VECM) were utilized to determine the Granger causality between weather factors and covariates. Furthermore, panel autoregressive distribution lag models (ARDL) were applied to quantify the association between weather factors and road traffic casualties., Results: The findings indicate that rainfall and temperature exert a short-term negative impact on casualty risk, which intriguingly becomes positive in the long term. A standout discovery is the significant role of health investments, which are shown to reduce casualty numbers in both the short and long-terms. In the long run, the gross domestic product significantly enhances casualties, while expressway mileage notably decreases them., Conclusions: These results demonstrate the significant influence of weather on road traffic casualties and highlight the critical roles played by factors such as gross domestic product, health investment, and expressway mileage. The evidence presented in the study underscores the urgent need for more effective strategies to mitigate road traffic casualties. Thus, some effective measures are proposed to reduce road traffic casualties. Kiwi starch (KS) is a new fruit-derived starch-based food material. In this study, wheat flour was partially replaced with 10-20% KS to make bread, and the influence of this substitution on mixed flour, dough processing performance, bread quality, and shelf life was investigated. KS substitution improved the water-binding ability of mixed flour, making it easier to gelatinize while improving viscoelasticity but reducing the integrity of the dough's gluten network structure. As the substitution rate increases, the hardness, air-cell ratio, and width-to-height ratio of bread significantly increased, while the springiness, resilience, baking loss, and specific volume reduced significantly ( p  < 0.05). KS enriched the bread's color and flavor by promoting the Maillard reaction during baking. Overall acceptability of 10% KS group was highest in sensory evaluation. Background: High prices of anticancer drugs have raised concerns due to their financial impact on patients and healthcare systems. This study aimed to assess the initial and latest list prices and clinical value of reimbursed anticancer drugs in China, Japan, and South Korea., Methods: We identified anticancer drugs newly approved by the National Medical Products Administration of China from January 2012 to June 2022, and by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency of Japan and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of South Korea up until June 2022. We compared initial and latest treatment prices between countries and assessed clinical value using patients' survival, quality of life (QoL), and European Society for Medical Oncology Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale (ESMO-MCBS). We calculated Spearman rank correlation coefficients of treatment prices with clinical value for individual countries and employed regression analyses to investigate whether the relationship between prices and clinical value was modified by the country setting., Findings: Our cohort included 91 anticancer drug indications, with 60 listed for reimbursement in China, 91 in Japan, and 87 in South Korea. Median treatment prices were highest in Japan, followed by South Korea, and lowest in China, both for initial prices (US$64082 vs. US$45529 vs. US$19144, p < 0.0001) and latest prices (US$50859 vs. US$31611 vs. US$18666, p < 0.0001). Over time, China ( β  = -0.047, p < 0.0001) and South Korea ( β  = -0.049, p < 0.0001) witnessed more significant price reductions compared to Japan ( β  = -0.013, p = 0.011). The correlations between both initial and latest treatment prices and clinical value (QoL and ESMO-MCBS) were more significant and stronger in China and South Korea than in Japan, although Japan exhibited slightly stronger correlations in terms of survival compared to China and South Korea. The relationship between clinical value and treatment prices may not be modified by the country setting., Interpretation: In comparison, South Korea's list prices and their correlations with clinical value appear reasonable. Canine circovirus (CanineCV), which is a new mammalian circovirus first reported in the United States in 2012, mainly causes diarrhea and vomiting in dogs. As CanineCV evolves and new subtypes emerge, there is an urgent need for new detection technologies to improve the sensitivity and detection rates of viruses in complex scenarios. A chip digital PCR(cdPCR) assay was established for the detection of CanineCV in this study. The results showed good reproducibility, specificity and a linear relationship; the minimum detection limit of CanineCV by cdPCR was 6.62 copies/μL, which is 10 times more sensitive than quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The qPCR-positive detection rate was 1 %, while CanineCV cdPCR (2.1 %) exhibited a greater positive detection rate. Fifteen complete genomes were sequenced and subdivided into CanineCV-1 and CanineCV-3. Objective: To explore the molecular mechanism of Aidi injection in the treatment of prostate cancer (PCa)., Materials and Methods: CCK-8 and colony formation assays were used to detect the effects of Aidi on PC3 and DU145 cells; effects on the cell cycle and apoptosis of DU145 cells were detected by flow cytometry; effects on migration and invasion of PC3 and DU145 cells were detected by wound healing and transwell assay, respectively. The main active components of Aidi, their corresponding targets, and PCa associated pathways were predicted and analyzed by network pharmacology. Then predicted key targets and related signaling pathways were further verified by western blotting. The potential active components of Aidi were predicted by molecular docking technology., Results: Aidi significantly inhibited the proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of PC3 and DU145 cells; Aidi induced apoptosis and cell cycle G2/M phase arrest of DU145 cells. Network pharmacology analysis yielded 36 potential core targets of Aidi against PCa, and the top 10 signaling pathways including MAPK, PI3K-Akt, and HIF-1α and so on were enriched. Western blotting confirmed that Aidi upregulated the expression levels of p -JNK, p-p38, p -ERK, and ERK in DU145 cells. This review focuses on changes in nutrition and functional properties of protein-rich foods, primarily attributed to alterations in protein structures. We provide a comprehensive overview and comparison of commonly used laboratory methods for protein structure identification, aiming to offer readers a convenient understanding of these techniques. The review covers a range of detection technologies employed in food protein analysis and conducts an extensive comparison to identify the most suitable method for various proteins. While these techniques offer distinct advantages for protein structure determination, the inherent complexity of food matrices presents ongoing challenges. Aroma is a key criterion in evaluating aromatic coconut water. A comparison regarding key aroma compounds and sensory correlations was made between Thailand Aromatic Green Dwarf (THD) and Cocos nucifera L. cv. Wenye No. 4 coconut water using E-nose and GC × GC-O-TOF-MS combined with chemometrics. Twenty-one volatile components of coconut water were identified by GC × GC-O-TOF-MS, and 5 key aroma compounds were analyzed by relative odor activity value and aroma extract dilution analysis. Moreover, the combination of the E-nose with orthogonal partial least squares was highly effective in discriminating between the two coconut water samples and screened the key sensors responsible for this differentiation. Additionally, the correlation between volatile compounds and sensory properties was established using partial least squares. Electrospun films (ESF) are gaining attention for active delivery due to their biocompatibility and biodegradability. This study investigated the impact of adding soy protein amyloid fibrils (SAFs) to ESF. Functional ESF based on SAFs/pullulan were successfully fabricated, with SAFs clearly observed entangled in the electrospun fibers using fluorescence microscopy. The addition of SAFs improved the mechanical strength of the ESF threefold and increased its surface hydrophobicity from 24.8° to 49.9°. Moreover, the ESF demonstrated antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus . In simulated oral disintegration tests, almost 100% of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) dissolved within 4 min from the ESF. In summary, the incorporation of SAFs into ESF improved their mechanical strength, hydrophobicity, and enabled them to exhibit antibacterial properties, making them promising candidates for active delivery applications in food systems. Background: Plenty of efforts have been made to reduce the use of low-value care (the care that is not expected to provide net benefits for patients) across the world, but measures of low-value care have not been developed in China. This study aims to develop hospital discharge records-based measures of low-value surgical procedures, evaluate their annual use and associated expenditure, and analyze the practice patterns by characterizing its temporal trends and correlations across rates of different low-value procedures within hospitals., Methods: Informed by evidence-based lists including Choosing Wisely, we developed 11 measures of low-value surgical procedures. We evaluated the count and proportion of low-value episodes, as well as the proportion of expenditure and medical insurance payouts for these episodes, using hospital discharge records in Sichuan Province, China during a period of 2016-2022. We compared the count and expenditure detected by different versions of these measures, which varied in sensitivity and specificity. We characterized the temporal trends in the rate of low-value surgical procedures and estimated the annual percent change using joint-point regression. Additionally, we calculated the Spearman correlation coefficients between the risk-standardized rates of low-value procedures which were estimated by multilevel models adjusting for case mix across hospitals., Findings: Low-value episodes detected by more specific versions of measures accounted for 3.25% (range, 0.11%-71.66%), and constituted 6.03% (range, 0.32%-84.63%) and 5.90% (range, 0.33%-82.86%) of overall expenditure and medical insurance payouts, respectively. The three figures accounted for 5.90%, 8.41%, and 8.38% in terms of more sensitive versions of measures. Almost half of the low-value procedures (five out of eleven) experienced an increase in rates during the period of 2016-2022, with four of them increasing over 20% per year. There was no significant correlation across risk-standardized rates of different low-value procedures within hospitals (mean r for pairwise, 0.03; CI, -0.02, 0.07)., Interpretation: Despite overall low-value practices detected by the 11 developed measures was modest, certain clinical specialties were plagued by widespread low-value practices which imposed heavy economic burdens for the healthcare system. Given the pervasive and significant upward trends in rates of low-value practices, it has become increasingly urgent to reduce such practices. Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) manifest as a natural inflammatory process with permanent dilation and terminal rupture. Nevertheless, the pathogenesis of AAA remains a mystery, and treatment is still controversial. Lipid metabolism and immune system are involved in AAA progression, which has been well documented. However, lipid- and immune-related (LIR) biomarkers need to be further elucidated., Methods: The AAA-related datasets were retrieved from the GEO database, and the datasets were analyzed for differential gene expression by NetworkAnalyst. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of differentially expressed mRNA (DE-mRNA) was performed using Metscape, and LIR DE-mRNA was further screened. AAA rat model was constructed using porcine pancreatic elastase to verify the differential expression of LIR DE-mRNA., Results: The GSE47472 and GSE57691 datasets respectively identified 614 (containing 381 down-regulated and 233 up-regulated DE-mRNAs) and 384 (containing 218 down-regulated and 164 up-regulated DE-mRNAs) DE-mRNAs. Intersection and union of DE-mRNAs were 13 and 983, respectively. The main terms involved in the union of DE-mRNAs included "immune system process", "metabolic process", "Chemokine signaling pathway", "hematopoietic cell lineage" and "Cholesterol metabolism". In vivo experiments revealed that LIR DE-mRNAs of PDIA3, TYROBP, and HSPA1A were significantly low expression in AAA abdominal aortic tissues, and HCK and SERPINE1 were significantly high expression, which is consistent with the bioinformatics analysis., Conclusions: PDIA3, TYROBP, HSPA1A, HCK and SERPINE1 may serve as LIR biomarkers of AAA, which provides new insights and theoretical guidance for the future treatment, early prevention and progression of AAA., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no competing interests., (© 2023 The Authors.)

In this study, a quality evaluation model of fermented kiwifruit juice (KJ) based on strain growth characteristics, sensory quality and functional characteristics was established by PCA, and the effects of mono- and mixed culture fermentation on the sensory and aroma profiles of KJ were comparatively studied. Experiments determined that L. brevis (LB) was the optimal strain for monoculture fermentation, and L. plantarum (LP2):LB = 1:2 was the optimum ratio for mixed fermentation. The results showed that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation significantly reduced the pH, soluble solid content and lightness, and improved its functional characteristics and viscosity. Mixed culture fermentation was superior to monoculture fermentation in terms of colony counts, sensory quality and viscosity. In general, after LAB fermentation, the concentrations of esters, ketones, alcohols and terpenoids in KJ increased significantly, while the concentrations of aldehydes decreased significantly. Background: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is an acute cerebrovascular disease, which is also a principal consideration for disability. Didang tang (DDT) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine formula for treating ICH. However, its pharmacological mechanism of action has not been elucidated., Materials and Methods: The TCMSP and BATMAN-TCM databases were used to collect chemical compounds and predict targets of DDT. Protein targets in ICH were identified by GeneCards, OMIM, and DrugBank databases. DDT compounds-ICH targets and protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were constructed for topological analysis and hub-targets screening. Further, Key biological processes and signaling pathways were identified by GO and KEGG enrichment analyses. Then, an ICH rat model and a Cobaltous Chloride (CoCl 2 )-induced PC12 cells model were established. Cell viability and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release were detected using cck8 and LDH kits. Apoptosis levels were detected by TUNEL assessment and flow cytometry. IL-1β levels were detected by ELISA, while key protein expressions were determined by Western blot., Results: A total of 126 active compounds related to DDT and 3,263 therapeutic targets for ICH were predicted. The functional enrichment of the GO and KEGG pathways combined with literature studies suggested that DDT is most likely to influence MAPK and apoptotic signaling pathways for ICH treatment. In vitro and in vivo experiments have shown that DDT remarkably inhibited apoptosis and increased the expression of Bcl-2, while inhibiting Bax and cleaved-Caspase 3. For other enriched core proteins, DDT suppressed the phosphorylation of Src and the expression of c-Myc and IL-1β, and up-regulated the level of MMP-9. As a deeply processing product of kiwifruit, kiwifruit wine (KW) has also shown promising commercial development prospects. In this study, the color and aroma characteristics of 14 commercially available KW were evaluated using intelligent sensory technologies (electronic nose (E-nose) and colorimeter) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Different types of KW had similar color trends, namely, yellow-green or yellow; however, individual samples showed a bright green color and had a high transparency. E-nose and GC-MS reached a relatively consistent conclusion that fermented wine and Lu Jiu were closer and significantly differed from those of distilled wine and beer. A total of 215 volatile organic compounds were identified in all KW. 50 key odor-active compounds were identified, of which ethyl caprylate, which had high OAVs in all samples (30-565.17), was considered the key odor-active compound of KW; likewise, damascenone also made a prominent aroma contribution in the different types of KW. Moreover, β-ionone, ethyl undecanoate, ethyl 2-methylvalerate were outstanding in different fermented wines. Acids and terpenoids were prominent in beer. A novel and accurate analytical method for the determination of tolfenpyrad in four leafy green vegetables, Brassica bara L., Spinacia oleracea L., Lactuca sativa L. and Brassica chinensis L., was developed and applied to investigate the residue distribution and dietary risk under greenhouse conditions. The established approach was determined to be adequate, with recoveries of 79.2%-92.9% and relative standard deviations < 8%. Tolfenpyrad dissipated relatively rapidly in four leafy green vegetables. Terminal residues of tolfenpyrad were below 0.5 mg/kg (maximum residue limit for Brassica bara L. set by China) in leafy green vegetables collected 28 d after the last application. Due to risk quotient values < 100%, the residue levels of tolfenpyrad in leafy green vegetables collected 21 days after the last application were deemed safe for consumers.
