Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy measures of defining characteristics of respiratory nursing diagnoses "impaired gas exchange" and "impaired spontaneous ventilation" in asmathics children in emergency department., Methods: Observational, descriptive transversal study developed between April and September 2013 in a hospital in northeastern Brazil with a sample of 205 children. Diagnoses were established by nurses trained experts in this field. Measures of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative value prediction right positive and negative likelihood ratio and diagnostic odds for the defining characteristics identified were calculated., Results: 28.8% of the evaluated children had "impaired gas exchange". Dyspnea, abnormal breathing, tachycardia and hypoxemia had higher frequencies. Hypoxemia presented as clinical feature high sensitivity and specificity. 5.9% of the evaluated children had "impaired spontaneous ventilation" and their most frequent defining characteristics were dyspnea, increased heart rate and decreased SaO2. The increasing use of accessory muscles to breathe presented the best measures of validity for this diagnosis., Conclusion: The hypoxemia and increased use of accessory muscles presented the best measures of the validity respectively to "deterioration in gas exchange" and "impairment of spontaneous ventilation". Objective: To determine the baseline prevalence and incidence rates of Impaired Gas Exchange (IGE), Ineffective Airway Clearance (IAC) and Ineffective Breathing Pattern (IBP) in children with acute respiratory infection., Method: A prospective open cohort study was conducted in two public hospitals specialized in child care in the months from January to June of 2011. The sample consisted of 136 children with acute respiratory infection, which lasted a minimum of six and maximum of ten consecutive days. The data were collected through examination of the child and interviews with their parents. The diagnostic inference process was developed by trained nurses., Results: The three diagnoses showed high rates at the beginning of follow-up period, with a reduction in the days after. There were similar rates of IBP and IGE. The temporal development of IBP was similar to that of IAC, but in lower proportions. Incidence rates in cases per 100 person / day were to IAC 39.28, 17.04 for DIG, and 13.31 for PRI., Conclusion: The three diagnoses studied appeared early and in high proportions. Objective: To determine the occurrence of the defining characteristics (DC) of nutritional nursing diagnoses (NND), verifying the association between the DC and the variables: gender, age, weight and height., Method: A descriptive study was conducted on 69 children aged between 1 and 4 years old, enrolled in a public nursery. The evaluation tool consisted of a check-list that included DC of NND and the signs and symptoms associated with malnutrition and obesity identified in the literature., Results: The study sample consisted of 57.9% females, with a mean age of 2.72 years (±0.765). The DC of "Readiness for enhanced nutrition" diagnosis was most frequently observed. The nursing diagnosis of inefficient airway clearance is prevalent in children. The present report describes the airway management intervention carried out over 5 consecutive days in a child admitted to a pediatric unit, using an instrument based on the indicators of respiratory rate, respiratory ease, respiratory rhythm, and adventitious breath sounds, included in the nursing outcome of "respiratory status: airway patency" of the Nursing Outcomes Classification. Monitoring was started after informed consent was obtained. The anonymity and confidentiality of the data were guaranteed. The monitoring started with a baseline evaluation of the child, followed by implementation of each activity in a pre-established order. On the following days, the nursing interventions implemented were evaluated once a day in the morning by the researcher. After implementing the selected activities, an improvement of 75% in health status was observed, generating an ascendant tendency line. The difference in means per follow-up day showed variations of 0.25 and 0.5. The final health status mean, i.e. the mean difference between the value of the last follow-up day and the initial status, showed a variation of 0.25. In conclusion, the intervention was satisfactory and hastened recovery, reduced length of hospital stay and the associated economic costs, and was painless and easy to perform.
