Cancer is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality. Environmental factors along with lifestyle: tobacco and alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity, are some of the risk factors that have caused an increase in cancer. This article updates the evidence and includes recommendations for prevention strategies for each of the cancers with the highest incidence. These are based on the reduction of risk factors (primary prevention) and early diagnosis of cancer through screening and early detection of signs and symptoms, in medium-risk and high-risk populations. Marantic endocarditis is characterized by the presence of sterile vegetations in the heart valves, and is associated with hypercoagulability states (cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV). Its main complications are stroke, pulmonary thromboembolism, acute intestinal ischemia and splenic, renal and hepatic infarcts. We present the case of a 57-year-old patient with a history of uterine neoplasia. She went to the emergency department due to sudden loss of strength in the left side of the body. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed right ischemic stroke, and she underwent endovascular reperfusion and thrombectomy. Four days later, she suffered acute respiratory failure, with angio-CT showing pulmonary thromboembolism. Later, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and distal ischemia in the second toe of the left foot appeared. She was diagnosed with marantic endocarditis by means of transesophageal echocardiography, and died 72h later due to multiorgan failure. Early diagnosis and treatment with anticoagulation can reduce the mortality of this disease, since it is underdiagnosed, and often only comes to light during postmortem examination., (Copyright © 2020 Sociedad Española de Anestesiología, Reanimación y Terapéutica del Dolor. Objective: To decide if Primary Care (PC) professionals know the European Code against Cancer (CECC) and if this relates to practice the recommendations with themselves and with their patients., Design: descriptive, observational study., Setting: Spanish Health Centers., Participants: Health professionals., Interventions: self-administered questionnaire., Main Measurements: cancer protective and risk factors, screening for colorectal, breast, cervix and prostate cancer, level of knowledge of the ECAC., Results: 1734 participants (10.5%), mean age 47.4 years (SD: 8.6), 71.5% female. 50.0% do not know the CECC; tutors (OR=1.61), assigned to the PAPPS (OR=1.51) and who have been working in AP for more time (OR=2.62) are the ones who know it most. 7.2% smoke and 79.1% drink alcohol. 64.1% presented normal weight and 19% performed physical activity. They avoid exposing themselves to the sun 52.7% and use protectors 53.8%. 85.2% have never had a colorectal screening, 11% never had a cytology, and 12% had a mammogram. There is a relationship between knowing the CECC and smoking (P<.001), overweight/obesity (P=.024), physical activity (P=.003), meat intake (P<.001), mammography (P<.001), cytology (P=.022), PSA (P=.045), as well as the promotion of their advice among patients., Conclusions: The CECC is unknown by half of the AP professionals. The practice of its recommendations is uneven, with the prevalence of low smoking, and sun protection a little extended behavior. Objective: To determine the number of passive smokers, the environments where exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) is higher, the opinion of smokers and non-smokers with regard to these spaces and their influence on smoking., Design: Descriptive and cross-sectional observational study of a convenience sample., Location: Multi-centre, Spanish Health-care Centres., Participants: A total of 9733 people older than 16 years who were seen or were working in Spanish Health-care Centres in April 2008., Main Measurements: Smoker condition, gender, profession and their opinion with regard to second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure., Results: A total of 42.4% of participants considered themselves second-hand (passive) smokers in public places and 96.8% in indoor areas. Almost all of them (91.8%) considered SHS exposure harmful for non-smokers, Smoke-free environments were considered to be good for discouraging people from starting to smoke (70.3%), and for quitting smoking (71.8%). Smoke-free environments were preferred by 81.1%. They felt more exposed SHS inside a car (79.8%) and in cafes (34.7%). Non-smokers, both men and women, shared these opinions significantly (P<.05)., Conclusions: Altogether, those surveyed considered themselves as second-hand smokers and think that smoke-free environments reduce the impact of smoking and help in quitting smoking. Besides, they prefer living in those environments. Management of smoking includes approaches such as health advice against smoking, brief or intensive interventions, and pharmacotherapy. However, we do not have enough information on the use of such approaches in teenagers. School programs aimed at children and adolescents are perhaps the most widely used intervention and the one for which we have the most experience. Such programs should meet a series of well-defined criteria, but in recent years their effectiveness has been questioned. Currently, information is lacking on how effective these interventions are in young smokers who wish to stop. Several clinical guidelines recommend advice and a brief intervention in adolescents but are less specific regarding pharmacotherapy. By integrating advice and a brief intervention into existing smoking prevention and control programs in schools, such approaches could be used to combat smoking in children and adolescents. However, the information available on the use of such interventions in children and adolescents is insufficient and more research needs to be done, particularly by health care professionals specialized in the identification of susceptible individuals and treatment of smoking.

Background: To determine the seroprevalence of antibodies to human parvovirus B19 (PVB19) in a series of 92 blood donors in Galicia., Methods: Antibodies of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) class were investigated in serum samples from 44 females and 48 males aged 18-63 years (mean: 29.40; SD: 10.81) using a commercial ELISA system consisting of highly specific recombinant antigen., Results: Nine positive cases (9.78%; CI 95%: 4.76-17.98%) were detected, including six females and three males with a mean age slightly higher as compared to all blood donors group. The prevalence of antibodies against PVB19 increased with age. No sex or age differences in the positive results were observed., Conclusions: These data indicate a PVB19 seroprevalence lower that in previous studies in several countries and in other areas in our country; since published references are limited in this community, complementary studies to establish the importance of this virus infection are justified.
