Background Morbidity remains a common problem following hepatic resection. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between preoperative body mass index (BMI) and morbidity in patients undergoing liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods Patients were divided into three groups according to preoperative BMI: low-BMI (≤18.4 kg/m2), normal-BMI (18.5–24.9 kg/m2) and high-BMI (≥25.0 kg/m2). Baseline characteristics, operative variables, postoperative 30-day mortality and morbidity were compared. Univariable and multivariable analyses were performed to identify independent risk factors associated with postoperative morbidity. Results Among 1324 patients, 108 (8.2%), 733 (55.4%), and 483 (36.5%) were low-BMI, normal-BMI, and high-BMI, respectively. There were no differences in postoperative 30-day mortality among patients based on BMI (P = 0.199). Postoperative 30-day morbidity was, however, higher in low-BMI and high-BMI patients versus patients with a normal-BMI (33.3% and 32.1% vs. 22.9%, P = 0.018 and P Conclusion Compared with normal-BMI patients, low-BMI and high-BMI patients had higher postoperative morbidity, including a higher incidence of SSI after liver resection for HCC.

Many pyrazole derivatives were reported to exhibit highly activity towards tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). In this work, an optimized pyrazole Schiff base scaffold was designed and introduced to derive novel potential TMV inhibitors. Thirty-six compounds were synthesized, characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectra and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and evaluated by biological experiments. The bioassay results showed that some of the synthesized compounds exhibited excellent anti-TMV activities. Especially, 5-chloro-3-methyl-1H-pyrazole contained compound 4j showed ningnanmycin comparable inhibitory activity and can be considered as potential anti-TMV candidate agent. With molecular docking, compound 4j insert into nucleotide sequence (GAAGUU) of OriRNA stably which revealed nucleotide could be a target of these compounds.

Mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway has been proved to play an important role in tumorigenesis and cancer development. MEK inhibitor has been demonstrated significant clinical benefit for blocking MAPK pathway activation and possibly could block reactivation of the MAPK pathway at the time of BRAF inhibitor resistance. Twenty N-(benzyloxy)-1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide derivatives have been designed and synthesized as MEK inhibitors, and their biological activities were evaluated. Among these compounds, compound 7b showed the most potent inhibitory activity with IC50 of 91nM for MEK1 and GI50 value of 0.26μM for A549 cells. The SAR analysis and docking simulation were performed to provide crucial pharmacophore clues that could be used in further structure optimization.

A series of novel (E)-1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazole derivatives containing O-benzyl oxime moiety were firstly synthesized and their immunosuppressive activities were evaluated. Among all the compounds, 4n exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity (IC50 = 1.18 μM for lymph node cells and IC50 = 0.28 μM for PI3Kγ), which was comparable to that of positive control. Moreover, selected compounds were tested for their inhibitory activities against IL-6 released in ConA-simulated mouse lymph node cells, 4n exhibited the most potent inhibitory ability. Furthermore, in order to study the preliminary mechanism of the compounds with potent inhibitory activity, the RT-PCR experiment was performed to assay the effect of selected compounds on mRNA expression of IL-6. Among them, compound 4n strongly inhibited the expression of IL-6 mRNA.

A series of silver films with various thicknesses were deposited on ITO covered silica substrates by magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The tunability of the surface plasmon resonance wavelength was realized by varying the thickness of silver thin film. By adjusting the silver layer thickness from 5 to 40 nm, the resonance wavelength shows a blueshift, which is due to a change in the electromagnetic field coupling strength from the localized surface plasmons excited between the silver thin film and ITO layer. In contrast, when the ITO layer is absent from the system, no noticeable shift in the resonance wavelength is observed upon varying the silver thin film thickness.

It was discovered that a number of cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors containing the pyrazole core structure exhibited high inhibitory potency against broad-range CDKs and corresponding anti-proliferative activities. This information guided us to design and synthesize a series of 1,3-diphenyl-N-(phenylcarbamothioyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide derivatives (5a–10d), and evaluate their biological activities as CDKs inhibitors. Among all the synthesized compounds, compound 10b inhibited CDK2 with an IC50 value of 25 nM, counteracting tumor cell proliferation of three cancer cell lines (H460, MCF-7, A549) in the micromolar range (from 0.75 μM to 4.21 μM), In addition, flow cytometry indicated that compound 10b could induce cycle G0/G1 phase arrest in A549 cells with a dose dependent. Taken together, compound 10b could be selected for further preclinical evaluation.

A novel fluorescent aqueous polyurethane emulsion DDAQ-TDI-PU was synthesized by blocking the anthraquinone moiety of 1,4-diamino-2,3-diphenoxyanthraquinone (DDAQ) into polyurethane chain using 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate (TDI), poly(propylene glycol) and 2,2-dimethylol propionic acid. The chain structure of DDAQ-TDI-PU was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV–vis analysis. Comparing to the UV–vis spectrum of DDAQ, DDAQ-TDI-PU showed a hypsochromic shift from the absorption maxima of 518, 558, 609 nm to 510, 548, 586 nm, respectively. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of DDAQ-TDI-PU emulsion was enhanced greatly comparing with that of DDAQ. The fluorescence of DDAQ-TDI-PU was very stable not only for the long term storage but also for the fluorescence quencher.

This paper compares the emotional pattern recognition method between standard BP neural network classifier and RBF neural network classifier. The experiment introduces wavelet transform to analyze the Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, and extracts maximum and standard deviation of the wavelet coefficients in every level. Then we construct the coefficients as eigenvectors and input them into BP and RBF neural network, then take a comparison of their experimental results. The result of experiment also show that the wavelet coefficients as the eigenvector can be effective characterization of ECG. The classification of the samples with BP neural network gets overall recognition rate of 87.5%, but RBF gets overall recognition rate of 91.67%. So compared with BP neural network, RBF has a better recognition rate for emotional pattern recognition.

The efficiency of EDTA, HNO3 and CaCl2 as extractants to remove Pb, Zn and Cu from tailing soils without varying soil pH was investigated with distributions of Pb, Zn and Cu being determined before and after extraction using the sequential extraction procedure of the optimized European Community Bureau of Reference (BCR). Results indicated that EDTA and HNO3 were both effective extracting agents. The extractability of extractants for Pb and Zn was in the order EDTA > HNO3 > CaCl2, while for Cu it was HNO3 > EDTA > CaCl2. After EDTA extraction, the proportion of Pb, Zn and Cu in the four fractions varied greatly, which was related to the strong extraction and complexation ability. Before and after extraction with HNO3 and CaCl2, the percentages of Pb, Zn and Cu in the reducible, oxidizable and residual fractions changed little compared to the acid-extractable fraction. The lability of metal in the soil and the kinds of extractants were the factors controlling the effects of metal extraction.

Olefin self-cross-metathesis (CM) reactions catalyzed by the second-generation Grubbs carbene complex have been compared in dichloromethane and two kinds of selected room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs). Both the catalyst and the ionic liquids could be simply recovered and reused for at least four cycles just with a little drop in activity. Significant enhancements in the reactivity, yield and reaction rate were achieved.

Gauss–Markov estimator of X 1 BX ′ 2 under a general growth curve model {Y,X 1 BX ′ 2 ,V 2 ⊗V 1 } is given. Necessary and sufficient conditions for equality between A 1 YA ′ 2 and B 1 YB ′ 2 , where A i =X i (X ′ i W i X i ) + X ′ i W i , B i =X i (X ′ i S i X i ) + X ′ i S i , with W i ,S i being any matrix, i=1,2, are derived. Finally, a number of criteria for A 1 YA ′ 2 to coincide with the Gauss–Markov estimator of X 1 BX ′ 2 are established.

The synthesis of cinnamoyl thiourea derivatives from cinnamoyl isothiocyanate (CIT) with substituted aniline (RC6H4NH2) was investigated in the mostly used ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, [Bmim][BF4]. Significant enhancements in reactivity, yield and reaction rate were achieved. The products could be recovered by simple filtration. [Bmim][BF4] could be recycled simply by removing water under vacuum and reused at least 9 times without significant decrease in activity.

The CF2-containing reagent 2 has been conveniently prepared using CF2Br2 as the readily accessible starting material. The fluoride-mediated nucleophilic reactivity of 2 towards aromatic aldehydes has been demonstrated.
