- Abstract
The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) has been installed at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (LNL), Italy. In this installation, AGATA will consist, at the beginning, of 13 AGATA triple clusters (ATCs) with an angular coverage of 1n,and progressively the number of ATCs will increase up to a 2 pi angular coverage. This setup will exploit both stable and radioactive ion beams delivered by the Tandem-PIAVE-ALPI accelerator complex and the SPES facility. The new implementation of AGATA at LNL will be used in two different configurations, firstly one coupled to the PRISMA large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer and lately a second one at Zero Degrees, along the beam line. These two configurations will allow us to cover a broad physics program, using different reaction mechanisms, such as Coulomb excitation, fusion-evaporation, transfer and fission at energies close to the Coulomb barrier. These setups have been designed to be coupled with a large variety of complementary detectors such as charged particle detectors, neutron detectors, heavy-ion detectors, high-energy gamma-ray arrays, cryogenic and gasjet targets and the plunger device for lifetime measurements. We present in this paper the conceptual design, characteristics and performance figures of this implementation of AGATA at LNL.

- Abstract
States in the N = 35 and 37 isotopes Ca-55,Ca-57 have been populated by direct proton-induced nucleon removal reactions from Sc-56,Sc-58 and Ca-56 beams at the RIBF. In addition, the (p, 2p) quasi-free single-proton removal reaction from Ca-56 was studied. Excited states in K-55, Ca-55, and Ca-57 were established for the first time via in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy. Results for the proton and neutron removal reactions from Ca-56 to states in K-55 and Ca-55 for the level energies, excited state lifetimes, and exclusive cross sections agree well with state-of-the-art theoretical calculations using different approaches. The observation of a short-lived state in Ca-57 suggests a transition in the calcium isotopic chain from single-particle dominated states at N = 35 to collective excitations at N = 37., QC 20220728

7 pags., 3 figs., 1 tab., We report on the first γ-ray spectroscopy of K produced via the Ca(p,2p) reactions at ∼250 MeV/nucleon. Unambiguous final-state angular-momentum assignments were achieved for beam intensities down to few particles per second by using a new technique based on reaction vertex tracking combined with a thick liquid-hydrogen target. Through γ-ray spectroscopy and exclusive parallel momentum distribution analysis, 3/2 ground states and 1/2 first excited states in K were established quantifying the natural ordering of the 1d and 2s proton-hole states that are restored at N = 32 and 34. State-of-the-art ab initio calculations and shell-model calculations with improved phenomenological effective interactions reproduce the present data and predict consistently the increase of the E(1/2 ) - E(3/2 ) energy differences towards N = 40., We are very grateful to the RIKEN Nishina Center accelerator staff for providing the stable and high-intensity zinc beam and to the BigRIPS team for the smooth operation of the secondary beams. - Abstract
Inclusive one- and multi-nucleon removal cross sections have been measured for several Sn, Sb and Te isotopes just beyond the N=82 neutron shell closure. The beams were produced in the projectile fission of a U beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. The experimental cross sections are compared to predictions from the most recent version of the Liege intranuclear cascade model. Although the overall agreement is good, severe discrepancies are observed for the cases of one- and two-neutron removal from Sn and Sb projectiles and one-proton knockout from all measured N=84 isotones. These discrepancies, as well as the relevance of quasi-elastic reaction channels to the one-neutron removal cross sections, are discussed. In addition, the measured inclusive one-proton knockout cross section for the semi-magic Sn projectile is compared to eikonal direct reaction theory calculations to assess if the suppression factors to these calculated cross sections, deduced from data on reactions of lighter projectile nuclei, are also applicable to heavy nuclei.

- Abstract
The proton-rich isotope Br was discovered in secondary fragmentation reactions of fast radioactive beams. Proton-rich secondary beams of Kr and Br, produced at the RIKEN Nishina Center and identified by the BigRIPS fragment separator, impinged on a secondary Be target. Unambiguous particle identification behind the secondary target was achieved with the ZeroDegree spectrometer. Based on the expected direct production cross sections from neighboring isotopes, the lifetime of the ground or long-lived isomeric state of Br was estimated. The results suggest that secondary fragmentation reactions, where relatively few nucleons are removed from the projectile, offer an alternative way to search for new isotopes, as these reactions populate preferentially low-lying states.

Highlights ► We characterized the mutator phenotype of a very early onset rectal cancer. ► High frequency of C:G>T:A or G:C>A:T transitions at methylated CpG sites was found. ► A somatic TDG mutation was found associated with TDG expression loss in the tumor. ► 1st in vivo evidence that TDG acts against deleterious 5-methylcytosine deamination., Cells with DNA repair defects have increased genomic instability and are more likely to acquire secondary mutations that bring about cellular transformation. We describe the frequency and spectrum of somatic mutations involving several tumor suppressor genes in the rectal carcinoma of a 13-year-old girl harboring biallelic, germline mutations in the DNA mismatch repair gene PMS2. Apart from microsatellite instability, the tumor DNA contained a number of C:G → T:A or G:C → A:T transitions in CpG dinucleotides, which often result through spontaneous deamination of cytosine or 5-methylcytosine. Four DNA glycosylases, UNG2, SMUG1, MBD4 and TDG, are involved in the repair of these deamination events. We identified a heterozygous missense mutation in TDG, which was associated with TDG protein loss in the tumor. The CpGs mutated in this patient's tumor are generally methylated in normal colonic mucosa. Thus, it is highly likely that loss of TDG contributed to the supermutator phenotype and that most of the point mutations were caused by deamination of 5-methylcytosine to thymine, which remained uncorrected owing to the TDG deficiency. This case provides the first in vivo evidence of the key role of TDG in protecting the human genome against the deleterious effects of 5-methylcytosine deamination.

5 pags., 6 figs., Single-neutron states in the , isotope 79Zn have been populated using the 78Zn(d, p)79Zn transfer reaction at REX-ISOLDE, CERN. The experimental setup allowed the combined detection of protons ejected in the reaction, and of γ rays emitted by 79Zn. The analysis reveals that the lowest excited states populated in the reaction lie at approximately 1 MeV of excitation, and involve neutron orbits above the shell gap. From the analysis of γ-ray data and of proton angular distributions, characteristic of the amount of angular momentum transferred, a configuration was assigned to a state at 983 keV. Comparison with large-scale-shell-model calculations supports a robust neutron shell-closure for 78Ni. These data constitute an important step towards the understanding of the magicity of 78Ni and of the structure of nuclei in the region., This work was supported by the European Commission through the Marie Curie Actions Contracts Nos.
