Abstract

Effects of annealing temperature on the phase transformation and the low temperature deformation characteristics in the deformed Ti-51.1Ni (at%) shape memory alloy (SMA) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), optical microscope (OM) and tensile test. The results show that the transformation types of Ti-51.1Ni alloy are changing from A→R/M→R→A to A→R→M/M→R→A to A→R→M/M→A (A-parent phase B2, R-R phase, M-martensite phase) upon cooling/heating along with increasing annealing temperature. The R transformation temperatures and martensite temperature hysteresis decrease, while the M transformation temperature increases and the R temperature hysteresis nearly keeps at about 6.5 °C. When deformation happen at 10 °C, the 400∼550 °C annealed Ti-51.1Ni SMA exhibits as the shape memory effect (SME) + superelasticity (SE), the 600∼700 °C annealed SMA shows SE, and the characteristics of alloy change from SME + SE to SE. In addition, the annealing recrystallization temperature of Ti-51.1Ni SMA is 590 °C, and the 590∼650 °C annealed alloy could obtain excellent capability of plastic deformation and 50.83 % values of fracture strain, so the forming processing temperature could be in the range of 590∼650 °C. When the Ti-51.1Ni alloy are used for energy consumption of damper and damping device, the suitable annealing temperature could be higher than 550 °C, and for making superelastic device, the suitable annealing temperature could be below 400 °C or above 600 °C.

Abstract

The rural domestic waste (RDW) compost has been widely used in agriculture and horticulture, but little is known about microplastics (MPs) in RDW composting. The current work deals with the abundance and characteristics of MPs in RDW composting, and the effects of composting processes on the composition of MPs. Compost samples from two RDW treatment stations were investigated, and a lab-scale experiment was carried out to verify the possible release of MPs from macroplastics (25 mm) contained in the RDW during composting. MPs were identified using stereo-microscope and μ-FTIR. The average abundance of MPs (0.05-5 mm) in the RDW compost products was 2400 ± 358 items/kg (dry weight), and the main MPs shapes were fibers and films. Polyester, polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) were the most common polymer types. MPs having a size1 mm accounted for more than 50% of the total quantity. With the progress of composting, the proportion of MPs having size1 mm increased, and more foam MPs were observed in the late stage of composting. Under the influence of mechanical force, oxidation and biodegradation, a piece of expanded polystyrene (EPS), PP and PE macroplastic could release 4-63 MPs particles during the composting. Thus, the RDW compost was a significant source of MPs in soils, and the MPs in compost products were closely related to the quantity and type of plastic waste present in RDW, which helped to suggest better MPs control strategies.

Abstract

Industrial-scale composting of food waste (FW) was performed at different aeration frequencies (C_5_25: 5 min aeration + 25 min interval, C_10_20: 10 min aeration + 20 min interval, C_15_15: 15 min aeration + 15 min interval and CK: stuffiness) to ascertain the optimal aeration frequency to accomplish polymerization and humification of compost. The tested aeration frequencies affected the oxygen uptake rate, oxygen spatial distribution, and ultimately influenced the humification of compost. Extensive aeration was not beneficial to accumulate nitrogen and phosphorus during composting. Aeration frequency influenced the succession of bacterial community primarily through affecting O2 concentration and the release of various enzymes by these bacteria. Regulating O2 concentration by adjusting aeration strategies may provide guidance for accelerating maturity of composting. Considering various factors, this paper recommends the scheme of heating period (C_5_25), thermophilic period (C_15_15) and psychrophilic period (no aeration).

Abstract

Gas hydrate reservoir properties provide critical information on the controlling mechanisms of gas hydrate formation and accumulation in natural depositional environments. They also are essential to understanding and accurately predicting gas production characteristics. However, the properties of fine-grained reservoirs that host hydrates are poorly studied. Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey acquired a comprehensive set of logging-while-drilling (LWD) logs, in situ tests, and lab measurements from 2015 to 2018 in the W11-17 fine-grained, gas hydrate reservoir of the Shenhu on the South China Sea. Porosity, hydrate saturation, and gas saturation were derived from neutron porosity, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electrical resistivity logs of SH-W17 and SHSC-4J1 wells and compared with lab measurements of pressurized cores. Units A to C contain three hydrate-concentrated intervals, with a maximum thickness of 32 m and an average hydrate saturation of 0.32 ±0.05. The hydrate saturation was estimated using resistivity and NMR models. Units D and E were inferred to be approximately 20 m thick, free-gas layers containing gas hydrates. Compared to hydrate saturation, the estimations of gas saturation from resistivity and NMR models are less reliable with a range of 0.05–0.4 due to the coexistence of gas hydrates and free gas. Permeabilities estimated from the NMR log agree well with those from neuron porosity in non-hydrate bearing intervals but are slightly higher in hydrate-bearing intervals. By incorporating the lab measurements and in situ tests into the NMR pore-size analysis, the permeability of water-bearing sediments in the hydrate intervals in the SHSC-4J1 well can be constrained to the range of 0.002–0.1 md, with 0.015 md being our best estimate. The NMR pore-size geometries indicate gas hydrates appear to preferentially fill bigger pores within fine-grained reservoirs, which exhibit a similar behavior to coarse-grained reservoirs. Our resistivity and relative permeability modeling indicate that the growth of gas hydrates within pore spaces is characterized by pore-filling and cementation behaviors.

Abstract

A series of crosslinked amphoteric starches with different degrees of substitution (DS) of carboxymethyl groups synthesized by a semi-dry process are investigated as an absorbent for removal of basic dye. Basic Green 4 is used to study the absorption behavior under various conditions, including initial pH of solution, dose of amphoteric starches, and dye initial concentration, adsorption time, adsorption temperature, and DS of carboxymethyl groups. The results show that adsorption amount of amphoteric starch is dependent of initial pH of dye solution, dose of absorbents and adsorption time. The adsorption capacity is affected strongly by the DS of carboxymethyl groups in the absorbents. The adsorption isotherm is discussed by modeling Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. The kinetic study shows that the pseudo-second-order model fits the experimental data better. Also, the thermodynamic parameters are shown.
