Abstract: International audience; As one of the most important forms of psychological behaviors, micro-expression can reveal the real emotion. However, the existing labeled training samples are limited to train a high performance model. To overcome this limit, in this paper we propose a macro-to-micro transformation model which enables to transfer macro-expression learning to micro-expression. Doing so improves the efficiency of the micro-expression features. For this purpose, LBP and LBP-TOP are used to extract macro-expression features and micro-expression features, respectively. Furthermore, feature selection is employed to reduce redundant features. Finally, singular value decomposition is employed to achieve macro-to-micro transformation model. The experimental evaluation based on the incorporated database including CK+ and CASME2 demonstrates that the proposed model achieves a competitive performance compared with the existing micro-expression recognition methods.

Abstract: In this work, we report on the design, microfabrication and use of a ring disk ultramicroelectrodes array (RD-UMEs) for direct detection of nitric oxide (NO)-release from decomposition of S-Nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) catalyzed by copper species. The electrochemical device includes seven individually addressable sets of gold RD-UMEs pairs and four gold counter electrodes. For each pair of RD-UMEs, the gold ring is electrochemically modified by poly(eugenol)/poly(phenol) layers to act as NO-sensor while the gold disc electrode is electrochemically coated by a copper layer serving as Cu2+ source for the catalysis of the in situ decomposition of GSNO. The mediated decomposition of GSNO by Cu2+ is achieved in presence of ascorbate. NO released from GSNO is detected on NO ring electrode at the same potential applied to form the Cu2+-based catalyst (+0.8 V vs. Ag/AgCl) in phosphate buffer solution with or without serum. Abstract: International audience; The Depth-Image-Based-Rendering (DIBR) is one of the main fundamental technique to generate new views in 3D video applications, such as Multi-View Videos (MVV), Free-Viewpoint Videos (FVV) and Virtual Reality (VR). However, the quality assessment of DIBR-synthesized views is quite different from the traditional 2D images/videos. In recent years, several efforts have been made towards this topic, but there is a lack of detailed survey in the literature. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey on various current approaches for DIBR-synthesized views. The current accessible datasets of DIBR-synthesized views are firstly reviewed, followed by a summary analysis of the representative state-of-the-art objective metrics. Then, the performances of different objective metrics are evaluated and discussed on all available datasets. Finally, we discuss the potential challenges and suggest possible directions for future research.

Abstract: International audience; In this study, the influence of the degree of crystallization and thickness of films was correlated with the photoelectrochemical performance of SrTaO2N semiconductor films for O2 evolution reaction under visible light irradiation. Oxynitride films were deposited on various substrates using the sputtering in Ar + N2 reactive atmosphere from a home-made SrTaO2N target. Films with stoichiometric composition were obtained at a high temperature (TS =800 °C) with reduced bandgap. The different substrates led to diverse degrees of film crystallization, from weakly crystallized to fully c-axis oriented. The photoelectrochemical performance was improved by improving the film crystallinity and the thickness. For further improvement of the photoelectrochemical performance, the following three limiting factors are identified 1) low absorption coefficient, especially in the visible domain from 500 to 600 nm; 2) short lifetimes of excited charge carriers; and 3) permittivity with only moderate values lower than 10 in the visible-light domain.

Abstract: International audience; This study concerns STLTO compounds of the ferroelectric (Sr 2 Ta 2 O 7) 100-x (La 2 Ti 2 O 7) x solid solution. The purpose is to produce the STLTO composition x = 1.65 as thin films by thermal oxidation of the corresponding oxynitride composition. Indeed, the combination of an STLTO oxide target with a dioxygen-rich reactive atmosphere during the sputtering deposition leads to Sr-deficient oxide thin films, shifting composition and structure from the perovskite to the tetragonal tungsten bronze type. An alternative synthesis pathway is to first deposit, under nitrogen-rich atmosphere, stoichiometric oxynitride films and produce, by thermal annealing under air, the stoichiometric oxide. For low oxidation temperatures ([550-600°C]), samples remain intact and display an oxide character but still contain a significant amount of nitrogen; they could be described as intermediate phases containing nitrogen-nitrogen pairs as demonstrated by Raman. Dielectric characteristics of these original film materials are of interest with a tunability value of 26 % at 30 kV/cm (10 kHz).

Abstract: International audience; This paper proposes a new scheme for the generation and transmission of a MIMO-OFDM signal over optical fiber using a single local oscillator (LO) at 15 GHz. This technique is based on subcarrier multiplexing and Optical Carrier Suppression (OCS) modulation using both Dual-Parallel Mach–Zehnder Modulator (DP-MZM) and Dual-Drive Mach–Zehnder Modulator (DD-MZM). DP-MZM is used to multiplex the MIMO-OFDM signals while DD-MZM is used to generate the 90 GHz signal by quadrupling. The realistic and global simulation of the complete system is performed to predict the behavior of a Radio over Fiber (RoF) system prior to its realization. The optical and wireless channels are based on Single Mode Fiber (SMF) and Triple-S-and-Valenzuela (TSV) models, respectively. We have exploited the allocated 7 GHz in the 60 GHz band for unlicensed use and we have successfully achieved 50km SMF followed by 3m wireless link at 70Gb/s. In comparison with traditional methods, the technique proposed combines better performance at relatively low-cost.

Abstract: International audience; Blind/no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) aims to assess the quality of an image without any reference image. In this paper, we propose an effective and efficient general-purpose NR-IQA model using natural scene statistics (NSS) of the luminance relative order, based on the observation that the variation of the marginal distribution of the relative order coefficients effectively reflect the degree of warping caused by different types of image distortions. In the literature, gradient-relevant methods have had a big success in full-reference (FR) IQA and reduced-reference (RR) IQA. Inspired by these, we extend it to NR-IQA in this paper. Notice that the NSS-based models usually extract their features derived from the spatial, wavelet, DCT and spectral domain etc. Unlike these metrics, the proposed method firstly extracts 32 natural scene statistics features of the luminance relative order, obtained from the log histograms of log horizontal, vertical, main-diagonal and secondary-diagonal derivatives, along with kurtosis, variance, differential entropy and entropy at two scales. Then a mapping is learned to predict the quality score using a support vector regression. The experimental results on several benchmark databases showed that the proposed method is comparable with the state-of-the-art methods and has a relatively low complexity. I Image quality assessment (IQA) is involved in numerous fields and applications since it is essential for the comparison and the optimization of different image processing methods. In many image processing tasks (e.g., image acquisition, compression, restoration, transmission, etc.), it is necessary to assess the quality of the output image. The end-user of images is human; thus the subjective assessment is always the ultimate and the most reliable test. However, the subjective assessment is time-consuming, expensive and cannot be real-time. That is why objective methods mimicking human perception have been developed to assess the perceived quality automatically. Objective methods can be divided into three categories depending on the amount of accessible information: full-reference (FR), reduced-reference (RR) and no-reference (NR). The FR IQA metric needs an ideal "reference" image, e.g. SSIM [1], ESSIM [2] and [24]. However, the reference image is not always available. Instead of utilizing the full information from the reference image, the RR metric [23] compares the distorted image and the reference one based on a short description (e.g. extracted features) of the reference image, which is transmitted along with the distorted image. The deployment of the RR metric is difficult since most operators refuse to pay this additional transmission cost for the non-visible information. The NR IQA metric blindly evaluates the distorted image quality, without any reference image. This could be very useful for the applications without reference image or with limited bandwidth. The NR-IQA metrics can further be classified into two types: distortion-specific (DS) and general-purpose. The DS metrics aim at some specific distortion(s) and must have some a priori information about the distortion(s) [3-5]. The general-purpose metrics aim to tackle different types of distortion [6-21]. This paper focuses on the general-purpose NR-IQA metrics, which may have a single-stage or two-stage framework. Abstract: International audience; The present study reveals the ferroelectric nature of the novel (Sr2Ta2O7)100-x(La2Ti2O7)x layered perovskite materials and highlights a large variation of their permittivity under electric fields associated with very low dielectric loss in the radio-frequency range. More precisely, an ideal solid solution has been evidenced within the composition range 0 ≤ x ≤ 5 with lattice parameters and cell volume varying linearly with x. The relative permittivity also depends on the composition and reaches a maximum value (365 @10 kHz, RT), associated with a high tunability (17.6% @0.38 kV/mm) with very low dielectric loss lower than 2.10−3. Variation of the relative permittivity as a function of the temperature is also demonstrated, with the existence of a temperature maximum, increasing with the composition. Polarization-electric field (P-E) measurements feature hysteresis loops for compositions x ≥ 1.85, in conjunction with current peaks in the I-E curves originating from ferroelectric domains switching.

Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of networked non-fragile H∞ static output feedback controller design for continuous Takagi–Sugeno T–S fuzzy systems with uncertainties and measurement noise under unreliable communication links. The packet dropouts and network-induced delays, which are two typical network constraints of data transmission through network, are considered in control design. Due to the introduction of the noise measurement and in order to simplify the control design, the descriptor model is adopted. For the multiplicative case of controller gain variations, we suggest a new solution of the fragility problem by developing the non-fragile design schemes ensuring the robustly admissibility for the resulting network closed-loop systems. By considering an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF), and using the deviation bounds of asynchronous normalized membership functions, we propose a new delay-dependent sufficient conditions formulated in LMI constraints which can be easily solved using convex optimization tools. To demonstrate the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the vehicle dynamics stability and the comparison with existing results are considered.

In the upper layer a relaxed long term energy allocation problem with a large decision time step is defined, taking into account the energy prices, the comfort requirements, and a global power constraint. The discrete decision variables are considered only in the lower layer, where the continuous global solution computed by the first optimization is projected into local mixed-integer programming (MIP) tracking problems with a shorter prediction horizon and a higher sampling rate. To fulfill the building global power constraint each load has a specific priority to access the available power, following a non-iterative priority algorithm.

Abstract: International audience; MiE is a facial involuntary reaction that reflects the real emotion and thoughts of a human being. It is very difficult for a normal human to detect a Micro-Expression (MiE), since it is a very fast and local face reaction with low intensity. As a consequence, it is a challenging task for researchers to build an automatic system for MiE recognition. Previous works for MiE recognition have attempted to use the whole face, yet a facial MiE appears in a small region of the face, which makes the extraction of relevant features a hard task. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning approach that leverages the locality aspect of MiEs by learning spatio-temporal features from local facial regions using a composite architecture of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM). The proposed solution succeeds to extract relevant local features for MiEs recognition. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate the highest recognition accuracy of our solution with respect to state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract: International audience; Structural and dielectric properties of thin films produced by reactive radiofrequency sputtering of a (Sr2Ta2O7)100-x (La2Ti2O7)x target with x = 1.65 were studied. The chemical composition characterization shows Sr/Ta ratios ranging between 0.49 and 0.56, thus pointing out the deposition of strontium deficient films, belonging to the tetragonal tungsten bronze family. The highest permittivities and tunabilities, associated with the lowest dielectric losses, are obtained when films are pure and fully textured. This is achieved for a 900 nm-thick film deposited at TS = 850 °C: ε’ = 116, tanδ = 0.007 and tunability T = 14.5% at 340 kV/cm and 100 kHz.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, ferroelectric ceramics with (Sr2Ta2O7)100−x(La2Ti2O7)x (STLTO) compositions have been investigated and their dielectric properties have been characterized in wide frequency band (from few kHz to few GHz); their integration in Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRA) was conducted. The dense STLTO ceramics have been obtained by high temperature sintering of powders synthetized by solid state chemistry route. STLTO crystalline cell parameters and volume vary linearly as a function of the chemical composition (x) thus demonstrating an ideal solid solution domain for 0 ≤ x ≤ 3. Dielectric characterizations highlight that the permittivity and the dielectric loss vary according to the composition (x) and that the lowest losses are obtained for x < 1.65 compositions. The latter corresponds to the transition between the ferroelectric and paraelectric compositions of the STLTO material at room temperature. A low profile DRA structure was realized using a cylindrical paraelectric STLTO resonator (with x = 0) with a permittivity of 83 and losses tanδ = 5 ×10⁻³ @ 3.3 GHz. The DRA prototype was simulated, produced and tested. It exhibits a hybrid HEM11δ mode, with a resonant frequency at 5.80 GHz, a 4.9% bandwidth and a gain of 6.4 dB. These features confirm the potential of the paraelectric STLTO compositions in compact antennas radiating at frequencies below 6 GHz.

Abstract: Magnetically-coupled resonant wireless power transfer systems (WPTs) operating in the megahertz range is well-suited for mid-range transmission of moderate power levels. The class-E power amplifier (PA) is attractive for the MHz WPT applications due to the high-efficiency and soft-switching properties. However, since the output power and the efficiency of the class-E PA strongly depends on the output load, any change in the mutual inductance of coupling coils, which leads to the PA load variation, results in a dramatic loss in the overall performance of WPT system. This paper provides a comprehensive design analysis to analytically and numerically mimic the PA behavior to conveniently adapt any variation of the input impedance of the coupled coils to the PA optimum load using a T-type matching network. An equivalent circuit analysis followed by the design theory for the class-E PA, coupled coils, and the T-network has been presented. For validation purposes, the class-E PA implemented by the cost-effective IRF640 MOSFET was first fabricated and its performance was measured for different load values. The PA efficiency and output power was measured as high as 96.7 % and 25.8 W, respectively, for the optimum load value of 9 Ω , which was closely predicted from the theory. A 1 MHz WPT system was then built for the operating range up to 27 cm, showcasing its behavior in presence and absence of the proposed T-type matching circuits at two arbitrary 10 cm and 25 cm distances between the coupling coils; the input impedance of the WPT system for those separation distances were 4 Ω and 0.2 Ω , respectively. Results demonstrate power transfer efficiencies of 88% and 15% at distances of 10 cm and 25 cm with the T-network, respectively, improved by 33% and 12% to the non-matching state, respectively. The overall DC output power achieved using a full-bridge rectifier are 21.9 W and 6.8 W at 10 cm and 25 cm, respectively.

Abstract: International audience; Heterogeneous cluster-based multi/many-core platforms are promising solutions to deliverhigh computing performances and energy efficiency in modern embedded systems. Theseplatforms support per-cluster Dynamic Voltage/Frequency Scaling (DVFS), allowing to changethe voltage/frequency levels for each cluster independently. To better cope with the increasingcomplexity and dynamism of running applications on multi-core platforms, this article presentsa 0-1 ILP based run-time management approach that aims to improve the overall system energy.The proposed approach adopts a hierarchical management organisation where a global managementstrategy determines application-to-cluster assignments and cluster frequency configurations, whilea local management strategy determines task-to-core mapping to optimize resource usage withineach cluster. Our approach can achieve near-optimal solutions with reduced strategy complexity,and delivers good scalability with respect to different platform sizes. The experimental results showthat the proposed global management strategy results in an exploration process speed 1614 timesfaster than an exhaustive search and only 6.4% higher energy consumption than the optimal solution.Our proposed approach demonstrates how significantly the local management of resource usage canimpact the global management leading to an improvement of energy efficiency up to 60.72% in ourexperiments when multiple active applications are competing for platform resources.

Abstract: International audience; Many applications rely on 3D information as a depth map. Stereo Matching algorithms reconstruct a depth map from a pair of stereoscopic images. Stereo Matching algorithms are computationally intensive, that is why implementing efficient stereo matching algorithms on embedded systems is very challenging for real-time applications. Indeed, like many vision algorithms, stereo matching algorithms have to set a lot of parameters and thresholds to work efficiently. When optimizing a stereo-matching algorithm, or changing algorithms parts, all those parameters have to be set manually. Finding the most efficient solution for a stereo-matching algorithm on a specific platform then becomes troublesome. This paper proposes an automatized method to find the optimal parameters of a dense stereo matching algorithm by learning from ground truth on a database in order to compare it with respect to any other alternative. Finally, for the C6678 platform, a map of the best compromise between quality and execution time is obtained, with execution times that are between 42 ms and 382 ms and output errors that are between 6% and 9.8%.

Abstract: International audience; Two novel diterpenes, phyllanes A and B, were isolated from the roots of Phyllanthus acidus, along with the cleistanthane diterpene, spruceanol. Their chemical structures were unambiguously elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR analyses and high resolution mass spectroscopic data, as well as by comparison with literature data. While phyllanes A and B are respectively reminiscent of amphilectane and serrulatane diterpenoids, their highly unusual substitution patterns and their co-occurrence with spruceanol led us to assume that they might correspond to an unprecedented type of re-arranged cleistanthane-diterpenoid precursors, resulting in final products that display a unique scaffold among terrestrial diterpenoids. Accordingly, a possible biosynthetic route to the two new compounds from the readily accessible spruceanol is proposed herein. These two compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against two cancer cell lines. Only phyllane B exerted a moderate activity against K562 and HepG2 cell line with IC50 values of 28.90 and 45.23 μg/mL, respectively. © 2017

Abstract: International audience; This work describes a low-cost biophotonic sensor shaped by way of cheap processes as hybrid silicon/silica/polymer resonators able to detect biological molecule gel/fluid phase transition as lipids at very low concentration (sphingomyelin). The photonic structure is composed of specific amplified deep UV photoresist-polymer waveguides coupled by a sub-wavelength gap with racetrack microresonators allowing a low temperature-dependent operation ranging from 16 to 42 °C. The temperature dependent wavelength shift and the thermo-optic coefficient characterizing the quantified resonances and opto-geometric properties of the device have been evaluated, highlighting an enough low thermal features of the whole system for such application. With an appropriate vesicle lipid deposition process specific in biology associated to an apt experimental bio-thermo-photonic protocol (made of serial optical resonance spectra acquisitions with statistical treatments), the dynamic evolution of the sphingomyelin lipid phase transition was assessed: then, the ability to detect their own gel/fluid transition phase and melting temperature has been demonstrated with a mass product factor 10 power 7 lower than that of more conventional methods. The equilibrium of the regime of the resonators was highlighted as being broken by the dynamic of the sphingomyelin and its own phase transition prior relevant detection.

Abstract: International audience; Almost all of the existing near field sources localization techniques use an ap-proximated model of the spherical wavefront to reduce the computational com-plexity. This approximation adds a systematic bias to the estimated range andangle of arrival (AOA) when the received signal has the spherical wavefront. Inthis paper, we propose an effcient correction method to mitigate the systematicerror introduced by the use of the approximated model in the existing near fieldsources localization techniques. The performance of the correction method isshown by simulation results.

Abstract: This paper presents the design of a highly compact printed rectenna for ambient RF energy harvesting around 2.45 GHz. Its antenna structure comprises a rectangular patch with two etched U-shaped slots fed by a symmetric 50 Ω coplanar line. In spite of compact size, it has been directly integrated with a rectifying circuit on the same substrate only at the expense of a 15% frequency shift. The proposed rectenna overall dimension is only 24.9 × 8.6 × 1.6 mm 3 , the smallest so far reported with comparable performance, which can be easily integrated with any device for energizing low-power wireless sensor networks. It was fabricated and experimentally characterized, achieving a reasonable agreement with the expected simulated results. Measured results indicate that, at the resonant frequency, the antenna part of the proposed rectenna provides a good matching level ( Ω . A demonstration experiment of a LED driven by the rectenna was also presented.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents two attacks on Teng et al.'s fragile watermarking algorithm. Both attacksallow the attacker to apply valid watermarks on tampered images, therefore rendering thewatermarking scheme useless. The first attack uses the watermarked version of two chosenimages, and the second attack, a generalization of the first, uses a number of arbitrarywatermarked images. The paper also models the cryptanalysis process for the second attackusing Markov chains in order to demonstrate that the necessary number of images is relativelysmall for a high probability of successful attack. All the results that are presented in thispaper have been confirmed by a practical implementation.

Abstract: International audience; Moving from the current power grid to the Smart Grid (SG) requires decentralizing management. This should be done by distributing intelligence over the entire grid, thereby, the intermittent production of renewable energy, customer consumption and electricity storage in electrical vehicles (EVs) could be managed in real time. In this paper, the Hierarchical and Distributed Cognitive Radio Architecture Management (HDCRAM), initially proposed to manage Cognitive Radio systems, is proposed for the management of the SG. This architecture can both be applied to the whole SG and to any sub-part (distribution network, production network, microgrid). In this paper we focus on the distribution network and the hierarchical position of each element is identified. As an example, HDCRAM is used for smart home management and multi-agent based modeling shows benefits of such an architecture. In the simulated scenario, without any management the peak power consumption is 5500 W and the hierarchical and distributed management allows to reduce it to 900 W. This diminution allows to reduce the pressure on the grid and can decrease the risk of failure.

Abstract: International audience; Technologies for wireless telecommunication systems using millimeter waves (MMW) will be widely deployed in the near future. Forthcoming applications in this band, especially around 60 GHz, are mainly developed for high data-rate local and body-centric telecommunications. At those frequencies, electromagnetic radiations have a very shallow penetration into biological tissues, making skin keratinocytes, and free nerve endings of the upper dermis the main targets of MMW. Only a few studies assessed the impact of MMW on neuronal cells, and none of them investigated a possible effect on neuronal differentiation. We used a neuron-like cell line (PC12), which undergoes neuronal differentiation when treated with the neuronal growth factor (NGF). PC12 cells were exposed at 60.4 GHz for 24 h, at an incident power density averaged over the cell monolayer of 10 mW/cm2. Using a large scale cell-by-cell analysis based on high-content screening microscopy approach, we assessed potential effects of MMW on PC12 neurite outgrowth and cytoskeleton protein expression. No differences were found in protein expression of the neuronal marker β3-Tubulin nor in internal expression control β-Tubulin. On the other hand, our data showed a slight increase, although insignificant, in neurite outgrowth, induced by MMW exposure. Abstract: All tests and devices have been performed on the NanoRennes platform with the support of the CNRS French national research agency and the project CPER Sophie/STIC&Onde. Artificial Wrist was realized at Cherry Biotech Rennes.; International audience; Low Temperature μ-Si layers have been deposited by Inductively Coupled Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (ICP-CVD) to produce strain gauges. These strain gauges performed on 25 μm thick flexible Kapton Polyimide (PI) were investigated in terms of Gauge Factor but also in dynamic mode through a homemade pneumatic test bench. Best strain gauge design has been identified and subsequently used to perform a 25 sensor array which was also tested using pulses and more complex signals. A simulation of blood pressure monitoring was performed to demonstrate the value of the technology.

Abstract: The optimization of μ-Si layers, TLM tests and device fabrication has been performed on the NanoRennes platform with the support of CNRS French national research agency and the CPER Sophie/STIC&Ondes project.; International audience; Low Temperature μ-Si layers were performed in a Corial Inductively Coupled Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (ICP-CVD) system. Doped μ-Si layers have been investigated in terms of resistivity, contact resistance, crystalline fraction and Gauge Factor. Some parameters have been identified to increase the Gauge Factor (GF) or the crystalline fraction (Fc). Strain gauges performed on 25 μm thick polyimide (PI) film have been tested to show the interest of the ICP-CVD μ-Si technology in the field of pressure sensors.

Abstract: The conversion of vibrations into electrical energy for powering low-power small electronic components has been investigated by researchers from different disciplines in the last decade. Among the possible mechanisms, piezoelectricity has received particular attention. In the field of low frequency cantilever-based vibration energy harvesters, the proof mass is essential in order to reduce the resonance frequency and increase the stress along the beam to increase the output power. In this work, a manufacturing process of a micro generator is proposed to easily modify and increase the dimensions of the cantilever, and thus tune its resonance frequency. The effect of the position of the mass on the performances of this flexible piezoelectric energy harvester is also studied. For a proof mass at 8 cm from clamping, we obtain a resonance frequency of 9.9 Hz, a maximum power of 127 μW against a resonance frequency of 16 Hz and a maximum power of 72 μW with a mass at 4 cm. This shows that the maximum power extracted varies in ≅ 1 / f R for a constant acceleration of 1 g (9.81 m/s2), as expected theoretically. These promising results show that the prototype can be considered for a low power application as an energy harvesting-based micro-generator.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper a new approach for designing noise canceling common gate (CG) low noise amplifiers (LNAs) isproposed. This method investigates using inductively degenerated common source (IDCS) stage in parallel with CGstage instead of common source(CS) stage. Considering special specification of IDCS LNA, proposed topology canachieve lower noise figure (NF) and better input impedance matching. Analytical calculation for this topology isperformed and the equations to satisfy input impedance matching along with noise cancellation condition arepresented. The NF of proposed LNA is also calculated while satisfying these conditions by using the calculation ofeach noise source's transfer function. To validate theoretical analysis, two different LNAs in X band are designed andoptimized. The simulations are performed using Advanced Design System (ADS) electromagnetic momentum withGaAS pHEMT 0.1$\mu$m process model. The results shows the proposed method can achieve better inputimpedance matching and lower NF while the output impedance matching and gain have relatively the same behavior.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, the properties of an optimized BaSrTiO 3 thin film, deposited on an alu-mina substrate using a sol-gel process, are presented. The real and imaginary parts of the permittivity and the tunability have been measured over 7 decades of frequency and in a temperature interval of 320 °C, which provides a good knowledge of the material properties for microwave applications. The dielectric properties of the films show a good stability in frequency and in temperature. From −80 °C to 20 ° C, the permittivity changes less than 2% and from −75 ° C to 100 °C, the tunability stays higher than 90% of its maximum value. The frequency dependence of the relative permittivity of the thin film is rather small since it only varies from 375 at 1 kHz to 350 at 5 GHz. As a main consequence, the tunability which attains almost 60% under a bias field of 400 kV/cm, is very stable in frequency up to 5 GHz. The dielectric losses tan δ, measured up to 1 GHz, stay below 0.02 for the complete frequency range. Although the material is in the ferroelectric phase, the hysteresis effect is quite negligible, which results in a well-determined permittivity value for a given electric bias field. The characterized thin film has been integrated into a reflectarray cell allowing a dynamic control of the reflected phase. The measured phase-shift value is close to the simulated one, showing the performance of the material.

Abstract: This paper deals with the design of the low complexity and efficient dynamic spectrum learning and access (DSLA) scheme for next-generation heterogeneous decentralized Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) such as Long Term Evolution-Advanced and 5G. Existing DSLA schemes for decentralized CRNs are focused predominantly on the decision making policies which perform the task of orthogonalization of secondary users to optimum vacant subbands of fixed bandwidth. The focus of this paper is the design of DSLA scheme for decentralized CRNs to support the tunable vacant bandwidth requirements of the secondary users while minimizing the computationally intensive subband switchings. We first propose a new low complexity VDF which is designed by modifying second order frequency transformation and subsequently combining it with the interpolation technique. It is referred to as Interpolation and Modified Frequency Transformation based VDF (IMFT-VDF) and it provides tunable bandpass responses anywhere over Nyquist band with complete control over the bandwidth as well as the center frequency. Second, we propose a tunable decision making policy, ? t _ rand , consisting of learning and access unit, and is designed to take full advantage of exclusive frequency response control offered by IMFT-VDF. The simulation results verify the superiority of the proposed DSLA scheme over the existing DSLA schemes while complexity comparisons indicate total gate count savings from 11% to as high as 87% over various existing schemes. Also, lower number of subband switchings make the proposed scheme power-efficient and suitable for battery-operated cognitive radio terminals. Several existing chromatographic techniques, such as fast and transportable Gas Chromatograph with Photoionization Detection (GC-PID) or sedentary chromatographic-based techniques equipped with a thermo-desorption device (ATD) and coupled to either Flame Ionization Detection (FID) or Mass Spectrometry (MS), can quantify benzene and its derivatives at such low levels. These instruments involve different injection modes, i.e. on-line gaseous sampling or thermo-desorption of adsorbent tubes spiked with liquid or gas samples. In this study, the performances of 3 various analytical techniques mentioned above were compared in terms of sensitivity, linearity, accuracy and repeatability for the 6 BTEX. They were also discussed related to their analyses time consumption or transportability. The considered analytical techniques are ATD–GC–FID, ATD–GC–MS where both full scan and SIM modes were tested and a transportable GC-PID. For benzene with on-line injection, Limits of Detection (LOD) were significantly below the European guideline with values of 0.085, 0.022, 0.007 and 0.058 ppb for ATD–GC–FID, ATD–GC–MS in a full scan mode, ATD–GC–MS in an SIM mode and transportable GC-PID, respectively. LOD obtained with adsorbent tubes spiked with liquid standards were approximately in the same order of magnitude.

Abstract: International audience; Polycrystalline BaTiO3 (BTO) thin films were electrodeposited on titanium foils from colloidal aqueous solutions of BTO nanoparticles which were synthesized by a hydrothermal process, under autogenous conditions. Two kinds of reactants have been studied: one involves an aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride and barium hydroxide octahydrate without any added solvent, whereas the second was obtained by dispersing amorphous titanium oxide in different volumes of barium hydroxide aqueous solutions. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The particle size distribution (PSD) and the zeta potential measurements indicate that the colloids in the solution are polydisperse when using the first synthesis method, and they tend to be quasi monodisperse in the case of the second synthesis route. A porous microstructure of the electrodeposited films was detected by SEM. Finally, the dielectric properties of the BTO thin films were investigated.

Abstract: International audience; Sea surface infrared reflectivity is an important parameter in oceanic remote sensing. Most analytical models consider single surface reflections, and the polarization is usually ignored. However, a loss of energy is reported for large observation angles (θ > 50°) because multiple surface reflections are ignored. This article generalizes the infrared reflectivity derivation of Li et al. (Appl. Opt., Vol. 52, 6100-6111, 2013) for 1D surfaces (2D problems) to 2D surfaces (3D problems), so that the cross-polarization effect can be taken into account. The contributions of one and two successive surface reflections are analyzed separately. The bidirectional reflectivity and the hemispherical reflectivity are studied. It is shown that the sea surface infrared reflectivity is significant for large incidence and observation angles. The energy conservation criterion is then checked. The loss of energy is largely reduced after taking into account two surface reflections.

Abstract: International audience; N-type and P-type microcrystalline silicon top-gate TFTs, processed directly on PEN plastic substrate at maximum temperature of 180 °C, were mechanically stressed. These TFTs were bent by different curvature radii varying between infinite (flat) and 0.5 cm. The tensile stress increases the electron mobility and the compressive stress decreases it. The tensile stress decreases the threshold voltage of N-type TFTs while the compressive stress increases it. These trends are inversed if the type of stress changes OR the type of TFTs changes. The total behavior under mechanical stress is exactly similar to that of single crystalline silicon MOSFETs in nano-scale technologies (90, 65, 45, 32 nm), where nano-scale stress is introduced in the goal to engineer the electrical parameters. The similarity originates from the microcrystalline silicon active layer that behaves like single crystalline silicon even if the stress effects are softened by the grain boundaries and the multiple crystalline orientations of the grains.

Abstract: The R2TP is a recently identified Hsp90 co-chaperone, composed of four proteins as follows: Pih1D1, RPAP3, and the AAA(+)-ATPases RUVBL1 and RUVBL2. In mammals, the R2TP is involved in the biogenesis of cellular machineries such as RNA polymerases, small nucleolar ribonucleoparticles and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related kinases. Here, we characterize the spaghetti (spag) gene of Drosophila, the homolog of human RPAP3. This gene plays an essential function during Drosophila development. We show that Spag protein binds Drosophila orthologs of R2TP components and Hsp90, like its yeast counterpart. Unexpectedly, Spag also interacts and stimulates the chaperone activity of Hsp70. Using null mutants and flies with inducible RNAi, we show that spaghetti is necessary for the stabilization of snoRNP core proteins and target of rapamycin activity and likely the assembly of RNA polymerase II. This work highlights the strong conservation of both the HSP90/R2TP system and its clients and further shows that Spag, unlike Saccharomyces cerevisiae Tah1, performs essential functions in metazoans. Interaction of Spag with both Hsp70 and Hsp90 suggests a model whereby R2TP would accompany clients from Hsp70 to Hsp90 to facilitate their assembly into macromolecular complexes.

Abstract: Heterogeneous Multiprocessor Systems-on-a-Chip (MPSoCs) with programmable hardware acceleration are currently gaining market share in the embedded device domain. Largest MPSoCs combine several software processing cores with programmable logic. In these systems, reaching the optimal implementation performance is difficult because many manual and time-consuming steps are required to build, from the application specification, a prototype with measurable performances. In this paper, a method is developed that, based on state-of-the-art tools and High-Level Synthesis, deploys within less than an hour a whole hardware-software rapid prototype from a unique dataflow-based application representation: DAMHSE (DAtaflow Method for Hardware/Software Exploration). A human-driven Design Space Exploration (DSE) is conducted in order to find the most performing architectural solution, and compilable/synthesizable code is generated. The method has been tested on an image processing system with software and hardware parallelism. Results show that the obtained absolute performance (pixel/cycles) reaches state-of-the-art, and that DAMHSE leads to a heterogeneous system where performance increases significantly when the application is granted with more hardware resources. One of the greatest challenges in creating such a design automation method resides in the application behavior that may change over time and affect application concurrency and system performance. In order to overcome this problem, the design-time DAtaflow Method for Hardware/Software Exploration (DAMHSE) method is complemented with a runtime application management system that dynamically dispatches jobs (tasks) among the available processing elements (CPUs and/or hardware accelerators). Experimental results show that the performance penalty due to runtime application mapping and scheduling is limited and that the computational performance of the adaptive system remains high. Apart from the vendor-specific HLS, the tools and the frameworks used by the proposed method are open source and tutorials are available to reproduce the results.

Abstract: International audience; The problem of latency reduction in direct Human-Computer interactions is considered. The proposed method is based on a frequency-domain approximation of a non-causal ideal predictor with a finite impulse response filter. Given a sufficiently rich dataset, the parameters of the filter can be either optimized off-line or tuned on-line with the proposed adaptive algorithm. The performance of the proposed solution is evaluated in an experimental study consisting of drawings on a touchscreen.

Abstract: International audience; Reductive removal of the organochlorine herbicide alachlor on Ni-coated graphite felt modified with Ag nanoparticles (Ag/Ni@GF) was studied. Ag/Ni@GF was prepared by spontaneous deposition of silver onto Ni-coated graphite felt (Ni@GF), which was previously obtained by electrodeposition of Ni onto graphite felt (GF). Interestingly, Ag/Ni@GF exhibited a high specific surface area of 26 m2 g−1 determined by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and a high Ag loading of 13.7 mg cm−3 as shown by electrochemical analyses. Alachlor (50 mg L−1 in 0.05 M NaOH) was successfully reduced at −0.9 V vs. mercury-mercurous sulfate electrode with 96% conversion efficiency and a current efficiency up to 33%. The main by-product was its dechlorinated derivative, deschloroalachlor, obtained with 76% yield. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) showed that PVP, necessary to control Ag nanoparticles deposition, does not affect the catalytic activity of Ag. Ag/Ni@GF electrodes could be used several times, highlighting their good stability.

Abstract: International audience; This paper demonstrates that it is possible to produce automatic, reconfigurable, and portable implementations of multimedia decoders onto platforms with the help of the MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC) standard. MPEG RVC is a new formalism standardized by the MPEGconsortium used to specify multimedia decoders. It produces visual representations of decoder reference software, with the help of graphs that connect several coding tools from MPEG standards. The approach developed in this paper draws on Dataflow Process Networks to produce a Minimal and Canonical Representation (MCR) of \MPEG\ \RVC\ specifications. The \MCR\ makes it possible to form automatic and reconfigurable implementations of decoders which can match any actual platforms. The contribution is demonstrated on one case study where a generic decoder needs to process a multimedia content with the help of the \RVC\ specification of the decoder required to process it. The overall approach is tested on two decoders from MPEG, namely MPEG-4 part 2 Simple Profile and MPEG-4 part 10 Constrained Baseline Profile. The results validate the following benefits on the \MCR\ of decoders: compact representation, low overhead induced by its compilation, reconfiguration and multi-core abilities.

Abstract: This paper presents an electrical model of the sensitivity to misalignments of an inductive transcutaneous link based on a class E amplifier and two coils (a solenoid and a spiral coil). This model can be used with any SPICE-compatible simulator and makes it possible to obtain the mutual inductance as well as the effective voltage and current waveforms for any relative position of both coils (distance and lateral misalignment). Moreover, this model allows the computation of the actual power transfer efficiency of the whole link. This model was validated by measurements of the mutual inductance of the actual coils.

Abstract: International audience; A micro-sensor based on chalcogenide glasses was developed on oxidized silicon substrate for evanescent wave detection in near-infrared spectral domain. This micro-sensor is composed of ridge waveguides based on chalcogenide glass deposited by RF magnetron sputtering associated with a microfluidic system. Optical losses of the ridge waveguide were measured at 1.55 μm and were about of 0.4 dB/cm, a value sufficiently low to enable detection in near-IR spectral range by evanescent waves. Suitability of the sensor for chemical-sensing has been demonstrated by detecting phenylethylamine molecules absorbing specifically at 1.55 μm. The efficiency of the optical sensor was tested as a function of the phenylethylamine concentration in the solution and as a function of the waveguide effective area. The best sensitivity was obtained for the waveguide presenting the smallest effective area of about 1 μm × 1 μm when the attenuation was nearly linear with the phenylethylamine concentration. Experimentally, the resolution was about 0.1 mol L−1 and the sensitivity was 0.87 dB/(mol L−1). A theoretical study was set-up to better control the evanescent wave sensor performance in terms of sensitivity and of resolution of the optical chalcogenide micro-sensor. Finally, selenide micro-waveguides were developed on CaF2 substrates suitable for detection in mid-IR spectral range.

Abstract: SiC x N y :H thin film growth has been achieved in N 2 /H 2 /Ar/hexamethyldisilazane microwave plasma induced chemical vapor deposition process. Depending on the N 2 and H 2 flow rates, film composition can be changed from “SiC x :H-like” to “SiN x :H-like”. Therefore, refractive index ( n ) and Tauc's optical gap ( Eg ) are modified over a wide range of values (1.75 ≤ n ≤ 2.15 and 3.5 eV ≤ Eg ≤ 5 eV). In addition, n and Eg values are closely related to Si C bonding density. N 2 addition to the plasma leads to the substitution of Si C by Si N bonds in the film and results in important composition and optical constants variations. This “silane free” process appears as an interesting plasma induced chemical vapor deposition process for silicon-based coating synthesis in the field of optical applications.

Abstract: International audience; Thanks to their lightweight, low cost and high flexibility, electroactive polymers (EAPs) have attracted the attention of both research and industrial communities. In particular, electrostrictive polymers have been widely used for the development of large strain actuators such as artificial muscles. However, the polarization and strain abilities of such materials are highly dependent on the sample thickness, for example because of a non-uniform space charge distribution caused by interface effects. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model taking into account the thickness effect on the actuation abilities of dielectric electrostrictive polymers, based on a continuous variation over the depth of the permittivity that can be seen as a surface effect. It is shown that this approach allows taking into account several effects, such as permittivity maximization for an optimal thickness. In addition, the paper introduces a simple relationship between the equivalent permittivity and the polarization saturation that limits the strain, allowing a good performance assessment of the actuation abilities of such devices. Dielectric measurements made on 20 ∼ 220 μm thick films demonstrated the validity of the proposed model, showing maximal permittivity around 100 μm, and strain ability assessments carried out on films ranging from 20 to 95 μm exhibited the highest strain response for the same thicknesses for low electric field excitations, and for lower thicknesses as the electric field is increased because of saturation effect, which was well predicted by the pseudo-empirical approach.

Abstract: International audience; Due to their numerous advantages, Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCPPs) have become an important technology for power generation. The participation of the CCPPs on the power production market involves frequent start-up/shutdown operations. In this context, optimizing their start-up procedure is of high interest. The optimization objective corresponds to problems that must be solved in real time while fulfilling operating constraints and in the mean time minimizing costs. In this paper a hierarchical model predictive control (H-MPC) structure is proposed to improve the start-up performances and to reduce the computation time. The structure includes two layers, each having a different time scale. The control problem at each level is formulated and based on a model developed in the modeling language Modelica and it aims at determination of an optimal profile of the gas turbine (GT) load. The CCPP model is adapted for optimization purposes and the load profile is assumed to be describable by parameterized functions, whose parameters are computed by solving a constrained optimal control problem. Abstract: International audience; In the Software Radio context, the parametrization is becoming an important topic especially when it comes to multistandard designs. This paper capitalizes on the Common Operator technique to present new common structures for the FFT and FEC decoding algorithms. A key benefit of exhibiting common operators is the regular architecture it brings when implemented in a Common Operator Bank (COB). This regularity makes the architecture open to future function mapping and adapted to accommodated silicon technology variability through dependable design.

Abstract: International audience; This article reports on the magnetoelectric (ME) effect observed in bi- and trilayered polymers consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyurethane (PU) filled with magnetically hard magnetite Fe3O4 or Terfenol-D(TeD) magnetostrictive material. The samples had the following compositions: (PU+2 wt% Fe3O4/PVDF), (PU+2 wt% Fe3O4/PVDF/PU+2 wt% Fe3O4), (PU+50 wt% TeD/PVDF) and (PU+50 wt% TeD/PVDF/PU+50 wt% TeD). A model, based on a driven damped oscillation system, has been developed to evaluate and study the influence of the first and second-order ME coefficients on the dc magnetic field-induced phase switching phenomenon between dynamic ME current and the applied ac magnetic field. A good agreement between the simulated results and experimental data was obtained and it was found that phase switching characteristics are mainly influenced by the ME losses induced by magnetostriction losses.

Abstract: We use observations of ionospheric scintillation at equatorial latitudes from two GPS receivers specially modified for recording, at a sampling rate of 50 Hz, the phase and the amplitude of the L1 signal and the Total Electron Content (TEC) from L1 and L2. The receivers, called GISTM (GPS Ionospheric Scintillation and TEC Monitor), are located in Vietnam (Hue, 16.4°N, 107.6°E; Hoc Mon, 10.9°N, 106.6°E). These experimental observations are analysed together with the tomographic reconstruction of the ionosphere produced by the Multi-Instrument Data Analysis System (MIDAS) for investigating the moderate geomagnetic storm which occurred on early April 2006, under low solar activity. The synergic adoption of the ionospheric imaging and of the GISTM measurements supports the identification of the scale-sizes of the ionospheric irregularities causing scintillations and helps the interpretation of the physical mechanisms generating or inhibiting the appearance of the equatorial F layer irregularities. In particular, our study attributes to the turning of the IMF (Interplanetary Magnetic Field) between northward and southward direction an important role in the inhibition of the generation of spread F irregularities resulting in a lack of scintillation enhancement in the post-sunset hours.

Abstract: This article deals with the impact of ionospheric electron density inhomogeneities on the functionality of global navigation satellite systems emphasizing positioning errors. The scintillation characteristics of transmitted signals have been obtained using data gathered in measurement campaigns. The effects on a standard receiver are then presented. Positioning errors due to scintillations were shown to be greater than 10 meters in the worst case.

Abstract: International audience; The present study evaluates Error Dynamics Shaping (EDS) as an alternative closed-loop strategy for subcutaneous insulin delivery in type 1 diabetes. EDS uses the energy-based principle of damping to ensure a robust stability of closed-loop systems. It benefits from intuitive tuning criteria and provides explicit state feedback control laws requiring few computational resources.
