Production of biodiesel is a renewable and pollution free source but it increases co-product i.e. crude glycerol. This paper demonstrates applications of the side product in an efficient and cost effective manner. The crude glycerol hence produced can be utilized in varied industries and can be used as precursor for the production of various products having better economic significance. The majority of crude glycerol is used as feedstock for production of other value-added chemicals. The utilization of glycerol in production of Glycerol trinitrate, Tartronic acid and Glyceric acid has been reported successfully.
