21. Fault feeder detection method utilized steady state and transient components based on FFT backstepping in distribution networks

Abstract

A novel cut-in point for fault detection issue is introduced by dividing the transient zero sequence current (TZSC) into the steady-state components (SSCs) and transient components (TCs), a comprehensive detection method based on the coordinated SSCs and TCs is presented. For the SSCs criterion, the TZSCs within the second power cycle are used as the research objects, the local SSCs are obtained based on Fast Fourier transformation (FFT), if there is unique phase difference of the local SSCs is larger than Π/4, the correlation coefficients of SSCs are used to detect the fault feeder; Otherwise goes into the TCs criterion stage, the global SSCs based on the backstepping method is calculated, accordingly, the TCs can be obtained by subtracting SSCs, the difference between fault feeder and healthy feeders are enhanced by using the extremum of TCs and bubble sort method, lastly, the cross-correlation distance (CCD) is introduced to detect the fault feeder. The proposed method not only has high detection accuracy but also needs least time length, the correctness and extensive applicability have been verified by the results from the radial distribution network simulation model, arc fault model, improved IEEE-13 node system and field test.

Abstract

Parallel transmission lines under fault can be decoupled into common component net and differential component net. For the differential component net is only composed by parallel lines part and its bus voltages are zero, the voltage distributions along differential component net can be calculated by each terminal current. The novel time-domain fault location algorithm is founded by voltage distributions from both terminals have the least difference at the fault point. The synchronization is achieved by searching the minimal value of locating criterion function, which is calculated by fixing one terminal data and moving another terminal data within a setting time. The proposed algorithm needs a very short data-window, any segment of fault data from transient to steady state can be used to locate faults, and no voltage data is needed. With distributed parameter model, simulations show that the locating errors are less than 0.1 km, and the fault types and fault resistances have no effect on locating accuracy.

Abstract

A novel phasor computation algorithm is presented in this paper. The real and imaginary part filters of this algorithm have identical magnitude frequency characteristic (IMFC) at all the frequencies and orthogonal phase frequency characteristic (PFC) at fundamental frequency. Considering the conditions of the same magnitude frequency characteristic (MFC) and the orthogonal PFC, the two-sample algorithm is derived. Once two-sample orthogonal filters with IMFC are obtained, the algorithm design is just to select proper shapes and lengths of windows, which determine the filtering performance and response-time, respectively. This method could be applied to design filter in any window-length, especially in short-window. Therefore, this class of phasor algorithms is suitable for EHV transmission line protection where a short-window is crucial for fast response and better operation performance. The proposed algorithm has been applied to a series of EHV relay devices by China Xuchang Relay Group.
