Abstract

Employing the Bonn–Gatchina partial wave analysis framework (PWA), we have analyzed HADES data of the reaction p(3.5 GeV)+p→pK+Λ. This reaction might contain information about the kaonic cluster “ppK−” (with quantum numbers JP=0− and total isospin I=1/2) via its decay into pΛ. Due to interference effects in our coherent description of the data, a hypothetical K‾NN (or, specifically “ppK−”) cluster signal need not necessarily show up as a pronounced feature (e.g. a peak) in an invariant mass spectrum like pΛ. Our PWA analysis includes a variety of resonant and non-resonant intermediate states and delivers a good description of our data (various angular distributions and two-hadron invariant mass spectra) without a contribution of a K‾NN cluster. At a confidence level of CLs=95% such a cluster cannot contribute more than 2–12% to the total cross section with a pK+Λ final state, which translates into a production cross-section between 0.7 μb and 4.2 μb, respectively. Abstract

The reaction p ( @ 3.5 GeV ) + p → p + Λ + K + can be studied to search for the existence of kaonic bound states like p p K − leading to this final state. This effort has been motivated by the assumption that in p + p collisions the Λ ( 1405 ) resonance can act as a doorway to the formation of the kaonic bound states. The status of this analysis within the HADES Collaboration, with particular emphasis on the comparison to simulations, is shown in this work and the deviation method utilized by the DISTO Collaboration in a similar analysis is discussed. The outcome suggests the employment of a partial wave analysis do disentangle the different contributions to the measured p K + Λ final state.

Abstract

We study the production of Σ ± π ∓ p K + particle quartets in p + p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the HADES experiment at GSI. This report evaluates the contribution of resonances like Λ ( 1405 ) , Σ ( 1385 ) 0 , Λ ( 1520 ) , Δ ( 1232 ) , N ⁎ and K ⁎ 0 to the Σ ± π ∓ p K + final state. The resulting simulation model is compared to the experimental data in several angular distributions and it shows itself as suitable to evaluate the acceptance corrections properly.

7. CERBEROS: A tracking system for secondary pion beams at the HADES spectrometer

Abstract

In 2014 the HADES collaboration performed two successful physics production runs with secondary pion beams. Since secondary pion beams are strongly defocussed in position and momentum, two fast tracking stations were installed along the pion beam chicane following the pion production target providing the momentum measurement of each individual pion. The momentum is reconstructed using the position information of every hit detected by the tracking stations and the beam optics transport calculation with a resolution below 0.5% playing an important role in terms of the exclusive analysis of investigated reactions. Both tracking stations consist of a double-sided silicon strip sensor with a large active area ( 10 × 10 cm 2 ) . To guarantee fast tracking, the sensors are read out with the n-XYTER ASIC chip. Due to its self-triggering architecture and local storage capability, the chip enables on-line tracking at high rates ( dN / dt > 10 6 part / s ) . The TRB3 read out board on which the trigger logic is implemented integrates the system into the HADES DAQ. In this report we are showing the results obtained during the calibration experiment with a monochromatic proton beam set at seven different momenta centred around 2.68 GeV/c. Also the excellent performance achieved during the production campaign with a pion beam are presented.

Abstract

The P ¯ ANDA fixed target experiment planned at FAIR will investigate fundamental questions of non-perturbative QCD. It makes use of a cooled antiproton beam (momentum: 1.5 to 15 GeV / c ) and will reach luminosities of up to 2 ⋅ 10 32 cm − 2 s − 1 , yielding a p ¯ p -annihilation rate of 2 ⋅ 10 7 s − 1 . One option for the central tracker of P ¯ ANDA is a cylindrical, ungated , continuously running TPC with GEM-based gas amplification stage.
