Over the past few years, Micro Grids (MGs) have gained much popularity due to two-way communication in the power network with special emphasis on Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), which comprise of both Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) and Nonrenewable Energy Sources (NRESs). Currently, the main focus of researchers is to deal with the intermittent nature of RESs, which lead to the fluctuations in power production and dispatch. In this paper, direct energy trading among MGs is considered as an assuring solution for improving the grid stability, reducing power line losses and minimizing energy trading cost. The focus of this work is on energy transactions amongst multiple MGs within the same geographic region. In the proposed method, coalitions among MGs are made on the basis of the distance between them for energy transaction. Furthermore, an Energy Transaction Algorithm (ETA) is proposed for energy trading among MGs in the coalitions. Energy Storage System (ESS) is also integrated, which stores energy when an MG has surplus energy and utilizes the stored energy if it becomes energy deficient. Simulations are performed and the results demonstrate that energy transactions among MGs in the proposed method minimize the power line losses and energy trading cost up to 34.6% and 14%, respectively as compared to the existing method.

Triple negative or basal-like breast cancer (TNBC) is characterised by aggressive progression, lack of standard therapies and poorer overall survival rates for patients. The bad prognosis, high rate of relapse and resistance against anticancer drugs have been associated with a highly abnormal loss of redox control in TNBC cells. Here, we developed docetaxel (DTX)-loaded micellar-like nanoparticles (MLNPs), designed to address the aberrant TNBC biology through the placement of redox responsive cross-links designed into a terpolymer. The MLNPs were derived from poly(ethyleneglycol)-b-poly(lactide)-co-poly(N3-α-e-caprolactone) with a disulfide linker pendant from the caprolactone regions in order to cross-link adjacent chains. The terpolymer contained both polylactide and polycaprolactone to provide a balance of accessibility to reductive agents necessary to ensure stability in transit, but rapid micellar breakdown and concomitant drug release, when in breast cancer cells with increased levels of reducing agents. The empty MLNPs did not show any cytotoxicity in vitro in 2D monolayers of MDA-MB-231 (triple negative breast cancer), MCF7 (breast cancer) and MCF10A (normal breast epithelial cell line), whereas DTX-loaded reducible crosslinked MLNPs exhibited higher cytotoxicity against TNBC and breast cancer cells which present high intracellular levels of glutathione. Crosslinked and non-crosslinked MLNPs showed high and concentration-dependent cellular uptake in monolayers and tumour spheroids, including when assessed in co-cultures of TNBC cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts. DTX loaded crosslinked MLNPs showed the highest efficacy against 3D spheroids of TNBC, in addition the MLNPs also induced higher levels of apoptosis, as assessed by annexin V/PI assays and increased caspase 3/7 activity in MDA-MB-231 cells in comparison to cells treated with DTX-loaded un-crosslinked MLNP (used as a control) and free DTX. Taken together these data demonstrate that the terpolymer micellar-like nanoparticles with reducible crosslinks have high efficacy in both 2D and 3D in vitro cancer models by targeting the aberrant biology, i.e. loss of redox control of this type of tumour, thus may be promising and effective carrier systems for future clinical applications in TNBC.

In this work, novel injectable and reduction-responsive hydrogels were successfully prepared via inverse electron demand Diels-Alder reaction between alginate-norbornene and a water-soluble PEG based disulfide cross-linker. The reduction-responsive cross-linker was designed to contain a PEG chain within two disulfide linkages, and two terminal tetrazine groups. The resulting hydrogels possessed high swelling ratios, porous morphology, excellent drug loading efficiency (~92%), and suitable mechanical properties. The drug release experiments demonstrated that the hydrogels released more than 90% of the encapsulated doxorubicin (DOX) in the presence of 10 mM glutathione while a minimal DOX release (25%) was measured in physiological buffer (PBS, pH = 7.4) after 11 d. The cross-linker and hydrogels did not exhibit any apparent cytotoxicity to fibroblast cells. In contrast, DOX-loaded hydrogels induced anti-tumor activity against cancer cells. The injectable and reduction-responsive hydrogels hold great potential as a biomaterial for stimuli responsive drug delivery applications.

Nanomaterials that respond to externally applied physical stimuli such as temperature, light, ultrasound, magnetic field and electric field have shown great potential for controlled and targeted delivery of therapeutic agents. However, the body of literature on programming these stimuli-responsive nanomaterials to attain the desired level of pharmacologic responses is still fragmented and has not been systematically reviewed. The purpose of this review is to summarize and synthesize the literature on various design strategies for simple and sophisticated programmable physical stimuli-responsive nanotherapeutics.

A three dimensional (3D) geometric channel model is proposed for ground-to-air (G2A) and air-to-ground (A2G) communication links. A low-elevated ground station (GS) and a high-elevated air station (AS) are taken at foci points of a virtual bounding ellipsoid corresponded from known knowledge of delay of longest propagation path. The effective region of scatterers around the GS is designed on the basis of this ellipsoid truncated by the average rooftop level (or average height of sea waves) and ground plane. Closed-form expressions for joint and marginal probability density functions (PDFs) of angle of arrival (AoA) observed at AS and GS in correspondence with azimuth and elevation angles are derived. Furthermore, closed-form expressions for density of energy with respect to the delay of arriving multipath waves corresponded from both the elevation and azimuth AoA are derived independently when observed from either end of the communication link. Moreover, effect of different physical parameters of the channel on distribution of energy in angular and temporal domains is presented. The comparison of analytical results with results of a notable model is also presented. In order to verify the derived analytical expressions, a comparison of analytical results with the performed simulation results is presented, which shows a good match.

Nuclear reactor core is the heart of a power plant producing power from fissile fuel fission. Refueling is needed periodically when it becomes impossible to maintain the reactor operating at nominal power as a result of fuel burn up. In PWR core reloading, attention is drawn to the configuration that meets safety requirements and minimizes energy cost. This paper focuses on finding the best core configuration for a typical two-loop, 300 MWe PWR satisfying the objectives of power peaking factor minimization to enhance safety of the reactor and maximization of multiplication factor to increase fuel burn up. Multi-objective optimization of the first core has been accomplished by implementing the batch composition preserving genetic algorithms (GA). Neutronic calculations and burn up analysis of the optimized loading patterns have been carried out using available reactor physics codes. It is found from this study that burn up of the optimized core has been extended by 48 effective full power days (EFPD's) while satisfying safety criterion by keeping power peaking factor below the reference value.
