Low dimensional artificially engineered spintronic materials can be used to increase the density of magnetic media using energy based magnetic recording. For this purpose, magnetic nanostructures such as patterned arrays with magnetic characteristics having high uniaxial magnetic anisotropy are the new contestants in the field of ultrahigh storage media. In this context, we focus on the synthesis of nano-dimensional magnetic media consisting of Dy and Fe bilayer structured arrays, fashioned in patterned magnetic nanostructures. The dimensional characteristics of these nanostructures were illustrated using field emission electron microscopy and energy dispersive elemental mapping. Room temperature magnetic properties of these nanostructures were first determined through atomistic spin model simulations which led us to configure the experimental hysteresis loop for DyFe bilayer. The deposition of crystalline Dy and Fe through DC and RF sputtering resulted in a soft magnetic behavior as revealed by the characteristic shape of the hysteresis loops exhibiting anisotropic features. Reflection spectra for these DyFe bilayers reveal a decrease in reflectance from ultraviolet to visible region demonstrating high absorption in visible region. The variation in reflectance spectra and squareness of the hysteresis loop reveals that these nanostructures as a viable candidate for magneto-optical devices.

Two years since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is time to discuss the long-term complications post virus infection. We are reporting three autopsy cases from patients who had COVID-19 one to six months before death. All three patients were SARS-CoV-2 negative at admission but expired shortly. At autopsy, the first patient showed subacute diffuse myocardial ischemic injury with microthrombi in pericardial small vessels, whereas the second patient showed catastrophic acute and subacute pulmonary infarctions with hemothorax leading to respiratory failure. The third patient showed subacute severe cerebral infarcts in the left middle cerebral artery region. Our findings suggest the hypercoagulopathy and subsequent vital organ damage may persist beyond the active phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection. It is essential to continue monitoring the COVID-19 patients after recovery, so as to identify those with vital organ injury in a timely manner and to take necessary steps to prevent severe consequences of COVID-19 complications.

Polyanionic Na super ionic conductors (NASICON) have attained great attention as cathode materials for Na ion batteries. In this study, we have comprehensively investigated the structural and electronic properties, as well as the ionic diffusion kinetics of Na3Cr2(PO4)3 using first-principles calculations based on the density functional theory. Our calculations have figured out the R 3 ¯ c - P 3 ¯ c 1 - R 3 ¯ c phase transformation of Na3Cr2(PO4)3 during desodiation. The material shows a semi-conductive property with a band gap of ~ 1.0 V, which has turned into metallic during the charging process. Comparing with other transition metal polyanionic materials, Na3Cr2(PO4)3 exhibits relatively higher working voltage of 3.65-4.7 V due to the redox couple of Cr4+/Cr3+. Na ions have migrated in a zig-zag pathway with small energy barriers fell in the range of 0.17–0.42 eV, which validates the good rate capability of this NASICON-type cathode material in Na ion batteries.

SummaryB cell CLL/lymphoma 11A (BCL11A) is a transcription factor and regulator of hemoglobin switching that has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for sickle cell disease and thalassemia. In the hematopoietic system, BCL11A is required for B lymphopoiesis, yet its role in other hematopoietic cells, especially hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) remains elusive. The extensive expression of BCL11A in hematopoiesis implicates context-dependent roles, highlighting the importance of fully characterizing its function as part of ongoing efforts for stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Here, we demonstrate that BCL11A is indispensable for normal HSC function. Bcl11a deficiency results in HSC defects, typically observed in the aging hematopoietic system. We find that downregulation of cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (Cdk6), and the ensuing cell-cycle delay, correlate with HSC dysfunction. Our studies define a mechanism for BCL11A in regulation of HSC function and have important implications for the design of therapeutic approaches to targeting BCL11A.

In this study we examined the transport signals contributing to HPV16 L2 nucleocytoplasmic traffic using confocal microscopy analysis of enhanced green fluorescent protein—L2 (EGFP-L2) fusions expressed in HeLa cells. We confirmed that both nuclear localization signals (NLSs), the nNLS (1MRHKRSAKRTKR12) and cNLS (456RKRRKR461), previously characterized in vitro (Darshan et al., 2004), function independently in vivo. We discovered that a middle region rich in arginine residues (296SRRTGIRYSRIGNKQTLRTRS316) functions as a nuclear retention sequence (NRS), as mutagenesis of critical arginine residues within this NRS reduced the fraction of L2 in the nucleus despite the presence of both NLSs. Significantly, the infectivity of HPV16 pseudoviruses containing either RR297AA or RR297EE within the L2 NRS was strongly reduced both in HaCaT cells and in a murine challenge model. Experiments using Ratjadone A nuclear export inhibitor and mutation-localization analysis lead to the discovery of a leucine-rich nuclear export signal (462LPYFFSDVSL) mediating 16L2 nuclear export. These data indicate that HPV16 L2 nucleocytoplasmic traffic is dependent on multiple functional transport signals.
