The process e(+)e(-) --> Zgamma, where the Z boson decays into hadrons or neutrinos, is studied with data collected with the L3 detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 189 up to 209 GeV The cross sections are measured and found to be in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. Limits on triple neutral-gauge-boson couplings, forbidden in the Standard Model at tree level, are derived. Limits on the energy scales at which the anomalous couplings could be manifest are set. They range from 0.3 to 2.3 TeV depending on the new physics effect under consideration. (C) 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.

The tau lepton lifetime is measured with the L3 detector at LEP using the complete data taken at centre-of-mass energies around the Z pole resulting in tau_tau = 293.2 +/- 2.0 (stat) +/- 1.5 (syst) fs. The comparison of this result with the muon lifetime supports lepton universality of the weak charged current at the level of six per mille. Assuming lepton universality, the value of the strong coupling constant, alpha_s is found to be alpha_s(m_tau^2) = 0.319 +/- 0.015(exp.) +/- 0.014 (theory). The total and differential cross sections of the process $\epem \ra n \gamma$ with $n \geq 2$ are measuredusing data collected by the L3 experiment at centre--of--mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=183$ and $189$\GeV{}. The results are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. Limits are set on deviationsfrom QED, contact interaction cut-off parameters and masses of excited electrons. The coupling of the Z boson to quarks is studied in a sample of about 3.5 million hadronic Z decays collected by the L3 experiment at LEP from 1991 to 1995. The forward–backward quark charge asymmetry is measured by means of a jet charge technique. A determination of the number of light neutrino families performed by measuring the cross section of single photon production in eqey collision near the Z resonance is reported. From an integrated luminosity of 100 pby1 , collected during the years 1991–94, we have observed 2091 single photon candidates with an energy above 1 GeV in the polar angular region 458-u -1358. From a maximum likelihood fit to the single photon cross section, the Z decay width into invisible particles g is measured to be G s498"12 stat Ž . Ž. "12 sys MeV. Using the Standard Model couplings of neutrinos to the Z, the inv number of light neutrino species is determined to be N s2.98"0.07 stat Ž . Ž. "0.07 sys., Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

We describe the sample of energetic single-photon events (Eγ > 15 GeV) collected by L3 in the 1991–1993 LEP runs. The event distributions agree with expectations from the Standard Model. The data are used to constrain the ZZγ coupling and to set an upper limit of 4.1 × 10−6, μB (90% C.L.) on the the magnetic moment of the τ neutrino., Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

We search for neutral heavy leptons that are isosinglets under the standard SU(2)L gauge group. Such neutral heavy leptons are expected in many extensions of the standard model. Three types of heavy leptons Ne, N(mu), N(tau) associated with the three neutrino types nu(e), nu(mu), nu(tau) have been directly searched for and no evidence for a signal has been found. We set the limit Br(Z0 --> nu(l)N(l)) < 3 x 10(-5) at the 95% CL for the mass range from 3 GeV up to m(Z).
