Red emitting phosphor plays a significant role in accelerating the improvement of illumination quality for white light emitting diodes (WLEDs). In this work, by using solid-state reaction method, an efficient novel Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphor with double-perovskite structure was successfully prepared. Here, a series of Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ red phosphors can be efficiently pumped by the near-ultraviolet (UV) light and then present high-brightness at orange emission (598 nm, 5D0→7F1) and red emission (610 nm, 5D0→7F2). The ratio values of 610 to 598 nm in Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphors exceed 1 when the content of Eu3+ is larger than 0.4 mol, because the occupation of Eu3+ ions is changed from Lu3+ ions with symmetric sites to Ba2+ ions with asymmetric sites. Besides, the optimized concentration of Eu3+ at the 5D0→7F2 transitions is obtained when x=1, indicating that there is non-concentration quenching in Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphors. Moreover, the CIE chromaticity coordinates of Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ was calculated to be of (0.587, 0.361), the color purity was calculated to be 72.26% and internal quenching efficiency (IQE) was measured to be 67%. Finally, the thermal stability of Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphors was also studied. Our work demonstrates that the novel double-perovskite red-emitting Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphors are prospective red emitting elements for WLEDs applications.

This study used a digital micromirror device (DMD) to produce point-array patterns and employed a self-developed optical system to define line-and-space patterns on nonplanar substrates. First, field tracing was employed to analyze the aerial images of the lithographic system, which comprised an optical system and the DMD. Multiobjective particle swarm optimization was then applied to determine the spot overlapping rate used. The objective functions were set to minimize linewidth and maximize image log slope, through which the dose of the exposure agent could be effectively controlled and the quality of the nonplanar lithography could be enhanced. Laser beams with 405-nm wavelength were employed as the light source. Silicon substrates coated with photoresist were placed on a nonplanar translation stage. The DMD was used to produce lithographic patterns, during which the parameters were analyzed and optimized. The optimal delay time-sequence combinations were used to scan images of the patterns. Finally, an exposure linewidth of less than 10 µm was successfully achieved using the nonplanar lithographic process.

A new combustion method for preparation of Dy 3+ -doped La 2 Sn 2 O 7 nanocrystals is presented. The morphologies of the as-synthesized nanocrystals are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron micrograph (TEM). The pyrochlore structure nanocrystals less than 50 nm with a hexagonal morphology are synthesized for the first time. The luminescent properties of these nanocrystals have been investigated by fluorescence measurements at room temperature. The results indicate that the energy transfers from the La 2 Sn 2 O 7 host to dysprosium ions.

Zn 3 (BO 3 ) 2 nanoparticles doped with Ce 3+ and Al 3+ have been prepared by co-precipitation method. The study on the XRD pattern and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) shows that the diffraction lines are in good agreement with monoclinic crystalline phase of Zn 3 (BO 3 ) 2 . Ce 3+ -doped Zn 3 (BO 3 ) 2 nanoparticles show a broader emission band at 405 nm, which is attributed to the d–f transition 5d–4f 1 of Ce 3+ . The effect of Al 3+ on luminescence properties of Ce 3+ has been studied. The results show that the fluorescence intensity of Ce 3+ is enhanced greatly.

We have studied age-dependent mortality in large cohorts of male and female D. melanogaster from four inbred lines. Average longevity varies substantially between genotypes (broad-sense heritability = 22%). Contrary to the predictions of the Gompertz model, mortality rates tend to decelerate at the most advanced ages. Fitting Gompertz, Weibull, Logistic, and Two-stage Gompertz mortality models to the data, we find that the best fit is obtained with the two-stage model, with exponentially increasing mortality at early ages, and zero or nearly zero increase at older ages. There is little microenvironmental effect from cage to cage. There is a sex-dependent mortality crossover: males and females differ in initial mortality rate and degree of acceleration of mortality rate, but the ordering of the sexes according to mortality parameters depends on genotype. Model fitting can be affected by gaps between deaths in the tail of the survivorship distribution. The observations are inconsistent with the limited life-span paradigm, which predicts sudden and well-defined drops in survivorship and corresponding sharp increases in mortality at advanced ages for large cohorts of genetically identical individuals.

The AML-001 trial compared AZA vs. conventional care ([CC]; which included supportive care [SC], intensive chemotherapy [IC], or low-dose cytarabine [LDAC] ) in older patients with AML and BM blasts > 30%. AZA was associated with a trend towards improvement in OS (10.4 vs. 6.5 months, HR1⁄40.84; p1⁄40.083) compared to CC (Dombret, et. al. EHA 2014). Methods: DACO-016 was a multicenter, randomized, phase III trial of DAC vs. treatment choice ([TC]; SC or LDAC) in older patients with AML (Kantarjian, et. al. JCO 2012). In order to have a cohort comparable to the AZA-001 trial, we selected a subset of patients from DACO-016 with BM blast counts >30% and WBC count < 15. We then analyzed the clinical characteristics and outcomes of these patients. The OS data is based on the mature data set of DACO-016 with the clinical cutoff in October 2010, having a median follow-up of 30.7 months. Results: Of the 485 pts on the trial, 271 (56%) met the criteria to be analyzed, 127 (47%) who received DAC and 144 (53%) who had TC. Patient characteristics for both arms are summarized in Table 1. Patients on the DAC arm received a median of 4 cycles (range, 1-33) compared to a median of 2 (1-34) cycles on the TC arm. The CR/CRi rate was 27% for DAC vs. 11% for TC. This was associated with a significantly improved OS for patients receiving DAC (8.6 vs. 4.7 months, HR1⁄40.67; p1⁄40.0033)(Figure 1). This represented an absolute improvement of 3.9 months or a relative improvement of 83% over TC. The relapse-free survival was 9.5 vs. 7.7 months for DAC vs. TC. When censored at the time of subsequent therapy, DAC maintained a Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma & Leukemia June 2015 significant OS advantage compared to TC (9.3 vs. 5 months, HR 0.69; p1⁄40.011). The 30-day mortality was similar for DAC vs. TC (10% vs. 6%), but DAC was associated with a higher rate of grade 3-4 hematologic toxicity (Table 1). Conclusion: DAC is an effective treatment in older patients with AML and may also improve outcomes in patients with higher BM blast counts.
