Electrochemical tests and surface analysis measurements were performed to study the corrosion behavior in a 0.9 wt.% NaCl solution at 37 °C of three NiTi shape memory alloys fabricated by laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF). The passive film characteristics and corrosion resistance of L-PBF NiTi showed different features as a function of their preparation process settings. The passivation rate for L-PBF NiTi surfaces including defects, such as keyhole pores and cracks which showed high electrochemical activity accelerating the passivation reaction process, was higher in the early stages of immersion, but the corrosion resistance provided by such a rapidly formed passive film containing higher defect density is lower than that for an initially defect-free surface. The thickness of the passive film including a higher defect density does not necessarily relate to the corrosion resistance. The L-PBF NiTi prepared at a linear energy density of 0.2 J/m and volumetric energy density of 56 J/mm3 shows the least defects. Also, an outer Ti-rich and inner Ni-rich dense and corrosion protective passive film could be obtained for these L-PBF NiTi samples, which also results in a relatively low Ni ion release rate. A passive film model based on thickness, composition and defect density properties as a function of processing conditions is proposed to explain the difference in corrosion resistance of the various L-PBF NiTi.

To evaluate and describe the clinical efficacy and safety of a modified unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar discectomy.From February 2019 to February 2020, patients who met the inclusion criteria were treated using a modified unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar discectomy. During the operation, the herniated disc was removed and the ligamentum flavum was preserved. Clinical efficacy was assessed via postoperative imaging and follow-up.A total of 70 patients were followed up for more than 2 years, including 51 males and 19 females, aged 49.4 ± 16.0 years. All operations were completed and no complications were noted. Postoperative lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed that the decompression of the nerve root was sufficient and the ligamentum flavum was preserved in all patients. Postoperative lumbar CT showed that the caudal lamina and inferior articular process of the cephalad vertebral were partially removed. Lower back and leg pain were significantly relieved after surgery, and the Oswestry Disability Index was significantly improved compared to presurgery measurements (P ＜ 0.01). After 2 years of follow-up, the sensory and muscle strength of nerve roots were significantly recovered (P ＜ 0.01). According to the MacNab score of the patients, 40 cases were defined as "excellent," 26 cases were "good," 2 cases were "fair," and 2 cases were "poor."Modified unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar discectomy can completely remove a lumbar herniated disc; relieve lower back and leg pain; improve lumbar function; reduce the risk of dural tearing, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, and epidural hematoma; and reduce the epidural adhesion and arachnoiditis caused by ligamentum flavum resection.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a disease caused by blood clots, tumor embolism, and other emboli within the pulmonary arteries. Various scoring scales are used for PE. One such same is the PESI, but it has 12 variables, making it inconvenient for clinical application.The aim of this study was to develop a new simple nomogram model to assess 30-day survival in PE patients. The new nomogram makes it easier and faster for clinicians to assess the prognosis of patients with PE.We collected data about the patients with PE from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III (MIMIC-III) database and used the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve (AUROC), calibration plot, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and decision curve analysis (DCA) to evaluate the predictive power of the new model, and compared these with the PESI.According to the multivariable Cox regression model results, alongside the actual clinical conditions, we included the following seven variables: race, bicarbonate, age, tumor, systolic blood pressure (SBP), body temperature, and oxygen saturation (Spo2). The AUROC of the new model was greater than 0.70. Its IDI exceeded 0, but with P-value0.05.The predictive performance of the new model was not worse than the PESI, but the new model only has seven variables, and is therefore more convenient for clinicians to use.

Both environmental factors, such as alcohol consumption and smoking, and genetic factors are strongly associated with the risk of developing chronic pancreatitis (CP). However, comprehensive understanding of their impacts on the progression of CP remains elusive.A prospective cohort study was performed on a large cohort of CP patients with known genetic backgrounds. The cumulative incidence of pancreatic insufficiency after the onset of CP was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis also was performed.A total of 798 patients were enrolled in the study and followed up for 10.5 years. Rare pathogenic genotypes in the SPINK1, PRSS1, CTRC, or CFTR genes were identified in 410 (51.4%) patients. The development of pancreatic insufficiency was significantly earlier in patients with a history of smoking and/or alcohol consumption in both the positive (P.001) and negative (P = .001) gene mutation groups. However, the development of pancreatic insufficiency did not differ significantly between patients with and without gene mutations despite alcohol and/or smoking status, with P values of .064 and .115, respectively. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age at onset of CP (hazard ratio, [HR], 1.02; P.001) and alcohol consumption (HR, 1.86; P.001) were independent risk factors for the development of diabetes, while male sex (HR, 1.84; P = .022) and smoking (HR, 1.56; P = .028) were predictors of steatorrhea.Although rare pathogenic mutations in the 4 major susceptibility genes for CP were not correlated significantly with the development of pancreatic insufficiency, environmental factors (either alcohol consumption or smoking) significantly accelerated disease progression (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04574297).

Although multifarious tumor-targeting modifications of nanoparticulate systems have been attempted in joint efforts by our predecessors, it remains challenging for nanomedicine to traverse physiological barriers involving blood vessels, tissues, and cell barriers to thereafter demonstrate excellent antitumor effects. To further overcome these inherent obstacles, we designed and prepared mycoplasma membrane (MM)-fused liposomes (LPs) with the goal of employing circulating neutrophils with the advantage of inflammatory cytokine-guided autonomous tumor localization to transport nanoparticles. We also utilized in vivo neutrophil activation induced by the liposomal form of the immune activator resiquimod (LPs-R848). Fused LPs preparations retained mycoplasma pathogen characteristics and achieved rapid recognition and endocytosis by activated neutrophils stimulated by LPs-R848. The enhanced neutrophil infiltration in homing of the inflammatory tumor microenvironment allowed more nanoparticles to be delivered into solid tumors. Facilitated by the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), podophyllotoxin (POD)-loaded MM-fused LPs (MM-LPs-POD) were concomitantly released from neutrophils and subsequently engulfed by tumor cells during inflammation. MM-LPs-POD displayed superior suppression efficacy of tumor growth and lung metastasis in a 4T1 breast tumor model. Overall, such a strategy of pathogen-mimicking nanoparticles hijacking neutrophils in situ combined with enhanced neutrophil infiltration indeed elevates the potential of chemotherapeutics for tumor targeting therapy.

Boron containing MoSi2 is a promising material for applications at high temperature, but the oxidation mechanism is still unclear. In this work, the high temperature (1100 °C) oxidation of B doped MoSi2 in synthetic air has been investigated. A (boro)silicate layer is formed on the surface of the alloy, which features a mixture of amorphous SiO2 and cristobalite. After an initial transient period, the oxidation kinetics follows a parabolic growth rate law. The growth rate constant of the oxide layer is enhanced by the boron in the alloy by 90 % per at.% B. The increase in growth rate is associated with boron mitigating the formation of cristobalite thereby promoting the formation of amorphous SiO2.

The relationship between chronic pancreatitis (CP) and acute pancreatitis (AP) is complex and not well understood. CP could be preceded by antecedent episodes of AP.The aim of this study was to explore both genetic and environmental factors associated with AP episodes before the diagnosis of CP.This was a cross-sectional study including 1022 patients. Detailed demographic, genetic, and clinical data were collected. Based on the presence of AP episode(s) before diagnosis of CP, patients were divided into AP group (further classified into single episode of AP group and recurrent AP group) and non-AP group. Related factors among these groups were assessed using multivariate logistic regression model.Before diagnosis of CP, 737 patients (72.1%) had a history of AP. Smoking(P = 0.005) and heavy alcohol consumption(P = 0.002) were risk factors for AP while age at CP onset(P 0.001), harboring the SPINK1 mutation(P 0.001), diabetes(P 0.001) and steatorrhea(P 0.001) were protective factors. Further, alcoholic CP(P = 0.019) was the only independent risk factor for recurrent AP attacks while age at onset of CP(P 0.001), pancreatic stones(P = 0.024). and pseudocysts(P = 0.018) served as protective factors.SPINK1 mutations served as protective factor for AP episodes, suggesting SPINK1 mutation might play a pathogenic role in CP occurrence with occult clinical manifestations.

Objective The relationship between SPINK1 and pancreatic cancer (PC) remains controversial. The current study aimed to determine the effect of SPINK1 mutations on PC development among patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP). Methods This is a prospective observational study including a large cohort of 965 CP patients with 11-year follow-up. Patients’ demographic characteristics and clinical CP outcomes were documented in detail. Genetic testing was performed. The effect of SPINK1 mutations on the clinical development of PC was explored using Cox proportional hazards regression. Subgroup analyses conducted included the consideration of gender, onset age of CP (early- and late-onset), etiologies of CP, smoking, and alcoholic drinking status. Results PC was diagnosed in 2.5% (24/965) of patients, and the cumulative incidence rates were 0.2%, 0.8%, and 1.5% at 3, 5, and 10 years since the onset of CP, respectively. In this cohort, SPINK1 c.194+2T > C was the most common variant with a proportion of 39.1%. And the risk of PC development varied marginally between patients with and without SPINK1 mutations (Cox HR 0.39(0.14–1.04), P = 0.059). In the subgroup analyses, patients carrying SPINK1 mutations had a significantly lower risk of PC (Cox HR 0.18(0.04–0.80), P = 0.025) in the non-smoking group. SPINK1 mutations showed no significant effect in the other subgroups considered. Conclusions CP patients harboring SPINK1 mutations do not have an elevated risk of PC development compared to mutation-negative CP patients. On the contrary, SPINK1 mutations may be a protective factor in non-smoking patients with CP.

Agarwood is the resinous portion of Aquilaria trees, and has been widely used as medicine and incense. Sesquiterpenes are the main chemical characteristic constituents of agarwood. Terpene synthase (TPS) is a critical enzyme responsible for biosynthesis of sesquiterpene compounds. However, limited information is available on genome-wide identification and characterization of the TPS family in Aquilaria trees. In this study, TPS gene family was identified and characterized in Aquilaria sinensis by bioinformatics methods. The expression of those genes was analyzed by RNA-seq and quantitative real-time PCR. Transcription factors regulating TPS gene expression were identified by yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase assay. In total, 26 AsTPS genes (AsTPS1-AsTPS26) were identified, which were classified into five subgroups. Many putative cis-elements putatively involved in stresses and phytohormones (especially jasmonic acid) were identified in the promoter regions of AsTPSs, suggesting that AsTPSs genes may be regulated by stresses and jasmonic acid. Expression analysis revealed seven TPS genes encoding sesquiterpene synthetases were induced by wounding and methyl jasmonic acid (MeJA), which may be related to sesquiterpene biosynthesis. By yeast one-hybrid screening, a ERF transcription factor AsERF1 was identified to interact with the AsTPS1 promoter. Subcellular localization analysis indicated AsERF1 was a nucleus-localized protein. Transient transfection of AsERF1 in leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana significantly enhanced the promoter activation of AsTPS1, suggesting AsERF1 may participate in sesquiterpene biosynthesis by regulating AsTPS1 expression. These data generated in this study provide a foundation for future studies on functional roles and regulation mechanisms of AsTPS in sesquiterpene biosynthesis and agarwood formation.

Nutrient metabolism is crucial for the survival of insects through the diapause. However, little is known about the metabolic mechanism of prolonged diapause. The sawfly, Cephalcia chuxiongica (Hymenoptera: Pamphiliidae), is a notorious defoliator of pine trees in southwest China. One of the distinguishing biological characteristics of this pest is the prolonged diapause of about 1.5 years. In this study, the body lipid, carbohydrate (total body sugar, glycogen, trehalose, and glucose), protein, and glycerol contents were measured in diapausing larvae of C. chuxiongica. The results showed that the changes of biochemical composition in C. chuxiongica are associated with the diapause initiation, maintenance, and termination phases. During the initiation phase, trehalose, glucose, and glycerol increased significantly, but glycogen decreased sharply. In general, the lipid, carbohydrate, and glycerol levels decreased gradually across the maintenance phase. At termination phase, the contents of glycogen and lipid persistently decreased, while an increase of trehalose, glucose, and glycerol contents were detected. The protein level was significantly higher at maintenance phase than at initiation and termination phases. It was also found that elevation of trehalose, glucose, and glycerol contents occurred in winter. These implies that the metabolites with altered levels in diapausing larvae of C. chuxiongica are responsible for maintaining a prolonged development and overwintering.

Influence of Fe2O3 on the pyrolysis products distribution of demineralized Hongshaquan (HSQ) and Daliuta (DLT) coal was investigated by a novel in-situ pyrolysis vacuum ultraviolet single photon ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The experiment samples were obtained by mechanical mixing of Fe2O3 and demineralized coal from acid elution with the mass ratio of 10:1, 5:1 and 2:1. Due to the characteristics of in-situ sampling, soft ionization and high vacuum environment, the initial pyrolysis volatiles including alkenes, aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, bi-phenols and a small amount of sulfur and nitrogen-containing substances can be detected. The results show that Fe2O3 has similar influence on the products distribution of two demineralized coal, and it is relatively stronger on DLT coal than that on HSQ. With the increase of Fe2O3 content, the light fraction content is promoted such as alkenes and aromatic hydrocarbons, but bi-phenols are obviously inhibited. Correspondingly, the heavy products are also decreased, and the evolution peak temperatures of the product increase. Fe2O3 is successively reduced to FeO and Fe while transforming heavy components into light components. The increase of aliphatic carbon (or aromatic hydrocarbon substituted carbon) during coal pyrolysis process is mainly responsible for the decrease pyrolysis peak temperature.

Noorda blitealis (Lepidoptera: Pyraloidea: Crambidae) is a major defoliating pest of Moringa trees. Focusing on its mating and reproduction, here we sequenced and analyzed the transcriptome of its pheromone glands (PGs) with a combination of Illumina sequencing, bioinformatics and phylogenetics approaches, coupled with a genome-based analysis. Transcriptome sequencing led to the yields of approximately 162 million clean reads, which were assembled into 60,578 unigenes and 121,692 transcripts, respectively. From the transcriptome, totally 117 genes encoding eight pheromone biosynthesis enzymes and one pheromone degradation enzyme were identified, 90 of which had complete open reading frames. A comparative analysis between PGs and bodies (removing PGs) revealed a large number of differentially expressed genes, including 79 pheromone biosynthesis and degradation related genes. Of the identified genes, NbliDES12 belonging to the △11 desaturase group was likely to a strong candidate for the desaturation of sex pheromones in N. blitealis, as implied by phylogenetic analyses and expression profiles. Finally and most notably, through genome and transcriptome analyses we discovered, for the first time, a novel aldehyde oxidase 6 (AOX6) group of the superfamily Pyraloidea that have been slightly expanded by gene duplications. Moreover, each orthologous AOX group shared highly conserved gene structure. Together, this current study has characterized the genes associated with sex pheromone biosynthesis and degradation from the PG transcriptome of N. blitealis, and more importantly, identifies a novel AOX group of the Pyraloidea.

Pardosa pseudoannulata is the main predatory natural enemy of crop pests in a paddy ecosystem. When P. pseudoannulata is exposed to unfavorable temperature conditions, the response of heat shock proteins could resist the damage, and is therefore, conducive to the organism’s rapid adaptation to the surrounding stress environment. In this study, we explored the roles of hsp70 and hsp90 genes in response to heat stress, using the rapid amplification of cDNA ends technique and cloned full-length cDNAs of Pphsp70, Pphsp83, and Pphsp90. The mRNA expression levels of the three genes under different temperature stresses (25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, and 43 °C) and with different duration stresses (4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 h) were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The full-length cDNA of Pphsp70, Pphsp83, and Pphsp90 was 2331 base pair (bp), 2466 bp, and 2663 bp, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of amino acid sequences of Pphsp70, Pphsp83, and Pphsp90 showed that the sequences had high homology with that of other spiders. The mRNA expression of all three genes was extremely significantly up-regulated at 43 °C. Moreover at 43 °C, the expression of all three genes in both female and male spiders at the duration of 4 h was the highest compared to that of other stress duration groups. Therefore, it can be inferred that the three genes of P. pseudoannulata play a crucial protective role in resistance in a high-temperature environment.

Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) and Trichoptera (caddisflies), belonging to the superorder Amphiesmenoptera, are the most diverse insect orders as representatives of the terrestrial and aquatic insects, respectively. The insects of the two orders possess different biological and behavioral characteristics, especially their larvae, presumably resulting in the differences of the ionotropic receptor (IR) genes in numbers, sequence characteristics or gene structure. Here, we employed genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, phylogenetics and molecular biology strategies to characterize the IR gene repertoire in Lepidoptera and Trichoptera. Genome and transcriptome analyses with exhaustive homology-based searches and manual efforts, in 32 lepidopterans and five trichopterans, led to the identification of 1449 genes encoding IRs with 1170 full-length sequences, representing the most comprehensive set of chemoreceptor superfamilies across the Amphiesmenoptera. Analysis of gene gains and losses in orthologous groups implied that some IRs were lost in related species, and multiple gene copies occurred mainly in divergent IRs (D-IRs) by gene duplications. Phylogenetic analysis of 2442 IR proteins from 67 species revealed that Lepidoptera and Trichoptera IRs could be classified into three subfamilies, i.e., 14 antennal IRs (A-IRs), five Lepidoptera-specific IRs (LS-IRs) and four D-IRs. Of the three subfamilies, A-IRs and LS-IRs members within orthologous groups exhibited high conservation of gene structure, but D-IRs shared extremely low amino acid identities (below 30%). Expression profiles revealed functional diversities of IRs from Bombyx mori and Papilio xuthus involving smell, taste or reproduction, in which some genes displayed sex-biased expression in antennae associated with specific chemosensory behaviors of female or male adults. Our current study has provided insights into the evolution, conservation and divergence of IRs between/within Lepidoptera and Trichoptera, and allows for further experiments to investigate IR functions.

Through an exhaustive homology-based approach, coupled with manual efforts, we annotated and characterized 128 sensory neuron membrane proteins (SNMPs) from genomes and transcriptomes of 22 coleopteran species, with 107 novel candidates. Remarkably, we discovered, for the first time, a novel SNMP group, defined as Group 4 based on the phylogeny, sequence characteristics, gene structure and organization. The lineage-specific expansions in SNMPs occurred mainly in the family Scarabaeidae, harboring 12 representatives in Onthophagus taurus as a typical gene duplication and the most massive set of SNMPs in insects to date. Transcriptome sequencing of Rhaphuma horsfieldi resulted in the yields of approximately 611.9 million clean reads that were further assembled into 543,841 transcripts and 327,550 unigenes, respectively. From the transcriptome, 177 transcripts encoding 84 odorant (ORs), 62 gustatory (GRs), 20 ionotropic (IRs), and 11 ionotropic glutamate (iGluRs) receptors were identified. Phylogenetic analysis classified RhorORs into six groups, RhorGRs into four subfamilies, and RhorIRs into 10 conserved antennal IRs and one divergent IRs. Expression profiles revealed that over 80% of chemosensory genes were specifically or highly transcribed in antennae or tarsi, suggestive of their olfactory and/or gustatory roles. This study has greatly complemented the resources for chemosensory genes in the cerambycid beetles, and most importantly, identifies a novel group of SNMPs in Coleoptera.

Compared with conventional endoscopy, magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy (MCCG) can be further optimized in gastric examination time and complete visualization of upper GI (UGI) mucosa. The second-generation MCCG (MCCG-2) was developed with higher image resolution and adaptive frame rate, and we aimed to evaluate its clinical availability for UGI examination in this study.Consecutive patients undergoing MCCG examination between May to June 2019 were prospectively enrolled and randomized to swallow the first-generation MCCG (MCCG-1) or MCCG-2 in a 1:1 ratio. The main outcomes included visualization of the esophagus and duodenum, operation-related parameters, image quality, maneuverability, detection of lesions, and safety evaluation.Eighty patients were enrolled. In the MCCG-2 group, frames captured for esophageal mucosa and Z-line were 171.00 and 2.00, significantly increased from those in the MCCG-1 group (97.00 [P = .002] and .00 [P = .028], respectively). The gastric examination time was shortened from 7.78 ± .97 minutes to 5.27 ± .74 minutes (P .001), with the total running time of the capsule extended from 702.83 minutes to 1001.99 minutes (P .001). MCCG-2 also greatly improved the image quality (P .001) and maneuverability (P .01). No statistical difference existed in the detection of lesions between the 2 groups, and no adverse events occurred.MCCG-2 showed better performance in mucosal visualization, examination duration, and maneuverability, making better diagnosis of UGI diseases a possibility. In energy absorption applications, architectured metallic materials generally suffer from unrecoverable deformation as a result of local yield damage or inelastic buckling. Nitinol (NiTi) offers recoverable deformation and energy dissipation due to its unique superelasticity, which can change the way we design and additively manufacture energy-absorbing architectured materials. The interplay between microstructure, mesoscopic deformation, and macroscopic thermomechanical response of NiTi architectured materials is still not studied in depth. In this work, NiTi architectured materials featuring anisotropic superelastic response, recoverable energy absorption and damping were successfully modeled and manufactured using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). Extensive numerical models demonstrated that NiTi architectured materials exhibit temperature-dependent superelasticity and effective transformation stress which can be controlled by the relative density and cell architecture. An effective transformation surface was developed based on the extended Hill's model, illustrating anisotropy is temperature-independent. Stable cyclic behavior with 2.8 % of reversible strain and damping behavior was successfully achieved in cyclic compressive tests without yielding damage or plastic buckling, which further illustrates that the progressive martensitic transformation is the main deformation and energy dissipation mechanism. A comparative study between designed herein body centered cubic (BCC) and octet structures showed that local microstructures significantly affect the deformation modes. The integrated computational and experimental study enables tailoring the superelasticity by combining structural design and microstructural control. Architectured materials designed in this study are potentially applicable as reusable impact absorbers in aerospace, automotive, maritime and vibration-proof structures.

Structural system identification aims at identifying the parameters of a theoretical (e.g., finite element) model using measured data of a constructed structure. As a means of extracting relevant information from noisy vibration data, one common strategy is to adopt a ‘two-stage’ approach, where natural frequencies and mode shapes are first estimated from Stage I (modal identification), and then used for further estimating the structural model parameters (e.g., stiffness, mass) in Stage II. In a Bayesian statistical context with sufficient data so that model parameters can be identified uniquely, the identification result is characterized by the ‘most probable value’ (MPV) that gives the best estimate, and a covariance matrix that quantifies the remaining uncertainty. Computationally, determining the MPV involves solving an optimization problem with a measure-of-fit function; the covariance matrix involves taking the Hessian of the function. Exploiting the mathematical structure of the measure-of-fit function in the two-stage problem, this work proposes a Fisher scoring method for determining the MPV, where the Hessian matrix in a Newton’s iteration is replaced by the Fisher information matrix to eliminate repeated computations of second order derivatives and to improve con-vergence robustness. Advanced techniques of eigenvalue sensitivity are applied so that the gradient and Hessian involved in MPV and covariance matrix computations can be obtained accurately and efficiently by solving full-rank matrix equations for the subject modes only. The proposed methodology is investigated with synthetic and laboratory experimental data. Performance in terms of convergence robustness and efficiency is compared with existing methods, including simplex search and Newton’s method. To systematically estimate the global prevalence of burnout among nursing students, and examine the associated factors of burnout in this population.A systematic review and meta-analysis.PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CINAHL were searched from inception to June 30th, 2022. Two researchers independently screened studies, extracted data and assessed the quality of included studies. The random-effects model was used to estimate the global prevalence of burnout among nursing students. Subgroup analysis, meta-regression analysis, publication bias, and sensitivity analysis were also conducted.A total of 21 studies were included, involving 10,861 nursing students. In the random-effects model, the pooled prevalence of burnout was 23.0 % (95 % CI = 15.6-30.5 %) in nursing students. The pooled prevalence of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment was 47.1 %, 32.2 %, and 43.5 %, respectively. Main associated factors of burnout included demographic (e.g., age and grade), educational (e.g., workload, academic satisfaction, and incivility experience), physical (e.g., sleep quality and physical activity), and psychological (e.g., self-efficacy and personality traits) factors.Burnout is common in nursing students, with demographic, educational, physical, and psychological factors affecting their burnout. Early screening of burnout and interventions to prevent and reduce burnout should be considered for nursing students.

APETALA1 (AP1), CAULIFLOWER (CAL) and FRUITFULL (FUL) were homologous genes with redundant functions in the process of flower transformation and floral development in Arabidopsis. Two CALs genes, MiCAL1 and MiCAL2, were cloned from mango (Mangifera indica L.). Their full-length sequences contained 717 bp and 714 bp, encoding 239 and 238 amino acids, respectively. Both the MiCAL1 and MiCAL2 proteins contained typical MADS-box and K-box domains and therefore belonged to the CAL-like protein family. MiCAL1 and MiCAL2 were expressed in all tissues at the inflorescence elongation stage and flowering stage, with the highest expression in the leaves at the flowering stage. They had similar expression patterns during flower development, with the highest expression levels in leaves during flower differentiation and the lowest expression levels during fruit development. Overexpression of MiCAL1 and MiCAL2 resulted in significantly earlier flowering in Arabidopsis. Overexpression of MiCAL1 resulted in terminal flowers with normal flower organs, while overexpression of MiCAL2 induced partially variation in floral organs but had no effect on inflorescences. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) experiments showed that MiCAL1 and MiCAL2 can interact with several flower-related proteins as well as stress response proteins, such as SEP1, SVP1, SVP2, SOC1G and Di19-4. These results suggest that these two MiCALs genes may have an important influence on mango flowering.

Background and aims The SPINK1 c.194 + 2T > C variant has been increasingly recognized as an important risk factor for chronic pancreatitis (CP). However, there is no clear agreement on its contribution to different ethnicities and CP etiologies. To address this issue, a meta-analysis of literature was performed. Methods Studies addressing the presence of the SPINK1 c.194 + 2T > C variant in CP patients and controls were retrieved from the PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane databases. Initial analysis included all CP patients, followed by subgroup analyses for East Asian and non-East Asian patients, and for idiopathic CP (ICP) and non-ICP. Results A total of 13 studies were retrieved for analysis, comprising 2097 cases and 4019 controls. There were 126 cases (10.01%) carrying the SPINK1 c.194 + 2T > C variant in cases, while only two controls were carriers (0.05%). Overall, the variant was significantly associated with an increased risk of CP (OR = 25.73). In the subgroup, the variant was significantly associated with increased risk of CP in East Asians (OR = 73.16), and in non-East Asians (OR = 10.21). Further, the contribution of the variant in ICP (OR = 35.31) was found to be higher than in non-ICP (25.75). Conclusions The SPINK1 c.194 + 2T > C variant is a strong risk factor for CP, especially in East Asian patients with ICP.

Nitinol (nickel-titanium or Ni-Ti) is one of the most utilized alloys exhibiting the Shape Memory Effect, which makes it possible to use it in many applications, such as aerospace, automotive, biomedical and others. The development of Additive Manufacturing technologies allows creating the latest time-dependent 4D products from nitinol that can realize the Shape Memory Effect after 3D-printing, which in the future will further increase the use of nitinol. However, processing nitinol is highly sensitive to compositional and thermal changes, affecting the final phase structure and thus temperature of the martensitic transformation. This paper presents a review of various effects of composition and 3D-printing process parameters on changes in transformation characteristics, as well as possible methods for their prevention and post-process heat treatments. It is reported that only by precise process and temperature control it is possible to create 4D products with the ability to realize the multi-stage shape memory effect. Finally, the paper discusses the various application of 3D-printed Nitinol and its advantages as compared to conventional processing routes.

Today’s fast linear algebra and numerical optimization tools have pushed the frontier of model predictive control (MPC) forward, to the efficient control of highly nonlinear and hybrid systems. The field of hybrid MPC has demonstrated that exact optimal control law can be computed, e.g., by mixed-integer programming (MIP) under piecewise-affine (PWA) system models. Despite the elegant theory, online solving hybrid MPC is still out of reach for many applications. We aim to speed up MIP by combining geometric insights from hybrid MPC, a simple-yet-effective learning algorithm, and MIP warm start techniques. Following a line of work in approximate explicit MPC, the proposed learning-control algorithm, LNMS, gains computational advantage over MIP at little cost and is straightforward for practitioners to implement.

Spherical powders of NiTi intermetallic compound were obtained from elemental powders by mechanical alloying at various modes followed by plasma spheroidization. The obtained powders were analyzed in terms of its chemical composition, sizes, morphology and microstructure. The plasma spheroidized NiTi powder was found to contain from 5.5% to 8.7% of the Ti2Ni phase in the form of a dendritic structure. It was also found that an increase in the mechanical alloying time leads to a more uniform distribution of elements in the powder, however, it significantly increases the iron impurity originating from the grinding of steel balls. Furthermore, granulometric composition of the synthesized powders was observed to depend on the size of the initial particles before spheroidization.
