1. Studying the adsorption mechanisms of nanoplastics on covalent organic frameworks via molecular dynamics simulations

Abstract: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with well-defined supramolecular structures and high surface-area-to-volume ratio have received extensive attention on their adsorption of contaminants from micro- to nano-size. Here, we studied the adsorption mechanisms of three typical nanoplastics (NP), including polyethylene (PE), nylon-6 (PA 6), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) on chemically stable COFs (TpPa-X, X = H, CH3, OH, NO2 and F) by molecular dynamics simulations. Depending on molecular structure and surface composition, two distinct interactions–electrostatic interaction and van der Waals (vdW) interaction–are identified to be responsible for the adsorption of different NP pollutants on TpPa-X. The vdW interaction is dominant during the adsorption process, while polar groups in polymers and COFs can enhance the adsorption because of the electrostatic interaction. Compared with other functional COFs, we found that TpPa-OH shows the strongest adsorption with the NP pollutants employed in this study. This work reveals the COF-polymer adsorption behavior and properties at atomic scale, which is crucial to the development of promising COF materials to deal with NP pollution.

Abstract: We study the decays of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to the final states Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 and Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of ( 1310.6 ± 7.0 ) × 10 6 J / ψ and ( 447.9 ± 2.9 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 are observed for the first time. The measured branching fractions of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to Ξ 0 Ξ ¯ 0 are in good agreement with, and much more precise than, the previously published results. The angular parameters for these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay parameter for J / ψ → Σ ( 1385 ) 0 Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) 0 , α = − 0.64 ± 0.03 ± 0.10 , is found to be negative, different to the other decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the “12% rule” and isospin symmetry in the decays of J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) to Ξ Ξ ¯ and Σ ( 1385 ) Σ ¯ ( 1385 ) are tested.

Abstract: More hotels adopt ecofriendly practices and implement innovative technologies to reduce carbon footprints and increase a viable green image. Many hotel guests value hotels that offer up-to-date technology and demonstrate sustainability efforts through various sustainable programs. Previous studies investigated how ecofriendly practices would induce higher customer loyalty and increase the image of a hotel brand in the past decade and reported the benefits of implementing green efforts in hotels. This study, which included distributing surveys to over 1200 existing hotel guests in 2013–2014 in the southeastern United States, examined how technologies, innovations, and sustainable-effort-related factors have an impact on customer perceptions, selection decisions, experience, and post-experience.

Abstract: Phthalates strongly and adversely affect reproduction, development and liver function. We did a cumulative risk assessment for simultaneous exposure to nine phthalates using the hazard index (HI) and the levels of nine phthalates in 1200 foodstuff samples. DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) present the highest level (mean: 0.443 mg/kg) in 1200 samples, and the highest average daily dose (ADD) was found in DEHP, ΣDBP ( i + n ) (the sum of dibutyl phthalate [DBP] isomers [DnBP + DiBP]) posed the highest risk potential of all the phthalates. In seven phthalates, the 95th percentiles of the ADDs for ΣDBP ( i + n ) in 0–6-yr-old children accounted for 91% (79–107%) of the tolerable daily intake, and the 95th percentiles of the HIs for the anti-androgenic effects of five phthalates in 0–3-yr-old children and 4–6-yr-old girls were >1. We conclude that the health of younger Taiwanese may be adversely affected by overexposure of phthalate-contaminated foods.

Abstract: The application of the assay methodology, called immunomagnetic reduction, using bio-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles as labeling markers for chloramphenicol was investigated. The reduction in the alternative-current (ac) magnetic susceptibility χac of magnetic nanoparticles caused by the association between magnetic nanoparticles and chloramphenicol was detected as a function of the concentration of chloramphenicol. In this study, the characterizations used to detect chloramphenicol, such as low-detection limit and interference, were also conducted. Furthermore, the extracting processes for chloramphenicol from shrimp were explored. Thus, the platform for detecting chloramphenicol residue in shrimp via immunomagnetic reduction was demonstrated. Such platform showed features of a 0.1-ppb low-detection limit, low interference from other kinds of antibiotics, and easy operation.

Abstract: The PANDA spectrometer will be a state of the art universal detector for strong interaction studies at the High-Energy Storage Ring (HESR) in the future international Facility for Anti-proton and Ion Research (FAIR) at GSI, Darmstadt. The detector is designed to take advantage of the extraordinary physics potential which will be available utilizing high intensity, phase space cooled anti-proton beams. This facility will provide a cooled anti-proton beam−2with momenta of 1.5-15 GeV/c, a maximal luminosity of 2×1032cms−1 that translates into 2×107 pp annihilations per second. A GEM based Time Projection Chamber (TPC) was one of the central tracker candidates for the PANDA experiment. To check the feasibility of such a detector system, a large prototype GEM-TPC was built and tested inside the FOPI Spectrometer at GSI. A set of three Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) foils were used as ampliﬁcation stage instead of Multi Wire Proportional Chambers. In this report, the design, construction, characterization of the prototype-detector system will be discussed in detail along with the results of recent beam tests.

Abstract: Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with high purity and very narrow diameter distribution have been synthesized using the dc arc-discharge method with Y–Ni alloy as catalyst and selenium (Se) as promoter. The SWCNTs show a very narrow diameter distribution mainly at about 1.5 nm, and can further be readily purified up to >99% purity with traditional purification including HNO3 reflux and air oxidation. The key factor of the wetting effect of Se in the SWCNTs growth improvement process is proposed and discussed. Moreover, a new less-destructive purification method including electrolysis, air-oxidation and centrifugation has been introduced, and SWCNTs with semiconducting content up to 94% have been produced through density gradient ultracentrifugation method.

Abstract: Using 58 million J / ψ decays obtained by BESII, a charged κ particle is observed in the analysis of the K S π ± system recoiling against K ⁎ ( 892 ) ∓ selected in J / ψ → K S K S π + π − . The mass and width values of the charged κ are obtained to be ( 826 ± 49 − 34 + 49 ) MeV / c 2 and ( 449 ± 156 − 81 + 144 ) MeV / c 2 for the Breit–Wigner parameters, and the pole position is determined to be ( 764 ± 63 − 54 + 71 ) − i ( 306 ± 149 − 85 + 143 ) MeV / c 2 . They are in good agreement with those of the neutral κ observed by the BES Collaboration.

Abstract: Based on 58 x 10(6) J/psi events collected by BESII, the decay J/psi -> (KKS)-K-+/-pi(-/+)pi(0) is studied. In the invariant mass spectrum recoiling against the charged K*(892)(+/-), the charged kappa particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at (849 +/- 77(-14)(+18)) - i(256 +/- 40(-22)(+46)) MeV/c(2). Also in this channel, the decay J/psi -> K*(892)K+*(892)- is observed for the first time. Its branching ratio is (1.00 +/- 0.19(-0.32)(+0.11)) x 10(-3). (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: In this study, we continued to investigate the hypoglycemic activity of Swertia punicea Helmsl., the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of methylswertianin and bellidifolin from the active ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fraction, and the potential mechanism(s) underlying the improvement of insulin resistance. Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 2 diabetic male BABL/c mice treated with methylswertianin and bellidifolin at different doses (orally, 200 and 100mg/kg body wt./day) for 4 weeks were analyzed in comparison to untreated mice. The results proved that methylswertianin and bellidifolin significantly reduced fasting blood glucose (FBG). The administration of both compounds also improved the oral glucose tolerance and lowered fasting serum insulin (FINS). Moreover, post-administration evaluation revealed lower serum total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) and triglyceride (TG) levels and increased relative high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) concentrations (HDL/TC). Methylswertianin and bellidifolin appeared to improve insulin resistance by enhancing insulin signaling. The expression levels of insulin-receptor alpha subunit (InsR-alpha), insulin-receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) were also increased after administration. Meanwhile, methylswertianin and bellidifolin increased hepatic glycogen content, decreased glucokinase (GK) activities and increased glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase) activities. In conclusion, these result indicated that methylswertianin and bellidifolin could be useful for treating type-2 diabetes, likely via the improvement of insulin resistance (IR).

Abstract: Using 58 x 10(6) J/psi events collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the branching fractions of J/psi to p (p) over bar eta and p (p) over bar eta' are determined. The ratio Gamma(J/psi -> p (p) over bar eta/Gamma(J/psi -> p (p) over bar obtained by this analysis agrees with expectations based on soft-pion theorem calculations. Abstract: Using a data sample with a total integrated luminosity of 10.0 pb −1 collected at center-of-mass energies of 2.6, 3.07 and 3.65 GeV with BESII, cross sections for e + e − annihilation into hadronic final states ( R values) are measured with statistical errors that are smaller than 1%, and systematic errors that are about 3.5 % . The running strong interaction coupling constants α s ( 3 ) ( s ) and α s ( 5 ) ( M Z 2 ) are determined from the R values.

Abstract: By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb−1 taken at s = 3.773 GeV and of 6.5 pb−1 taken at s = 3.650 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for the exclusive light hadron final states of K S 0 K − π + , K S 0 K − π + π 0 , K S 0 K − π + π + π − , K S 0 K − π + π + π − π 0 , K S 0 K − π + π + π + π − π − and K S 0 K − π + π 0 π 0 produced in e + e − annihilation at the two energy points. We set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and the branching fractions for ψ ( 3770 ) decay to these final states at 90% C.L.

Abstract: We report measurements of the line shapes of D + D − , D 0 D ¯ 0 and D D ¯ production as well as the line shape of the ratio of the production rates of D + D − and D 0 D ¯ 0 in e + e − annihilation at ψ ( 3770 ) resonance. We find that the line shapes of D + D − , D 0 D ¯ 0 and D D ¯ production are similar to an anomalous line shape of cross sections for e + e − → hadrons observed in the center-of-mass energy range from 3.70 to 3.87 GeV.

Abstract: Rare decay modes J / ψ → D s − π + + c.c. , J / ψ → D − π + + c.c. , and J / ψ → D ¯ 0 K ¯ 0 + c.c. are searched for using 5.77 × 10 7 J / ψ events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No signal above background is observed. We present upper limits on the branching fractions of B ( J / ψ → D s − π + ) 1.3 × 10 −4 , B ( J / ψ → D − π + ) 7.5 × 10 −5 , and B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 K ¯ 0 ) 1.7 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: R values measured with the BESII detector at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 5.0 GeV are fitted to determine resonance parameters (mass, total width, electron width) of the high mass charmonium states, ψ ( 3770 ) , ψ ( 4040 ) , ψ ( 4160 ) and ψ ( 4415 ) . Various effects, including the interferences and relative phases between the resonances, the energy-dependence of the full widths, and the initial state radiative correction, are examined. The results are compared to previous studies.

Abstract: The decays of J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) to n K S 0 Λ ¯ + c.c. are observed and measured for the first time, and the perturbative QCD “12%” rule is tested, based on 5.8 × 10 7 J / ψ and 1.4 × 10 7 ψ ( 2 S ) events collected with BESII detector at the Beijing Electron–Positron Collider. No obvious enhancement near n Λ ¯ threshold in J / ψ → n K S 0 Λ ¯ + c.c. is observed, and the upper limit on the branching ratio of J / ψ → K S 0 X , X → n Λ ¯ is determined.

Abstract: With singly-tagged D ¯ samples selected from the data collected at and around 3.773 GeV with the BESII detector at the BEPC collider, we have measured the branching fractions for the inclusive K ± decays of D + and D 0 mesons, which are BF ( D + → K − X ) = ( 24.7 ± 1.3 ± 1.2 ) % , BF ( D + → K + X ) = ( 6.1 ± 0.9 ± 0.4 ) % , BF ( D 0 → K − X ) = ( 57.8 ± 1.6 ± 3.2 ) % and BF ( D 0 → K + X ) = ( 3.5 ± 0.7 ± 0.3 ) % , respectively. We have also measured the branching fractions for the inclusive semileptonic decays of D + and D 0 mesons to be BF ( D + → e + X ) = ( 15.2 ± 0.9 ± 0.8 ) % and BF ( D 0 → e + X ) = ( 6.3 ± 0.7 ± 0.4 ) % . These yield the ratio of their partial widths to be Γ ( D + → e + X ) / Γ ( D 0 → e + X ) = 0.95 ± 0.12 ± 0.07 .

Abstract: By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb−1 taken at s = 3.773 GeV and 6.5 pb−1 taken at s = 3.650 GeV with the BESII detector at the BEPC collider, we have measured the observed cross sections for 12 exclusive light hadron final states produced in e + e − annihilation at the two energy points. We have also set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and the branching fractions for ψ ( 3770 ) decay to these final states at 90% C.L.

Abstract: By analyzing the R values measured at 68 energy points in the energy region between 3.650 and 3.872 GeV reported in our previous paper, we have precisely measured the mass, the total width and the leptonic width of the ψ ( 3770 ) resonance to be M ψ ( 3770 ) = 3772.4 ± 0.4 ± 0.3 MeV , Γ ψ ( 3770 ) tot = 28.5 ± 1.2 ± 0.2 MeV and Γ ψ ( 3770 ) e e = 277 ± 11 ± 13 eV , respectively. We have measured the leptonic branching fraction of the ψ ( 3770 ) decays and the ψ ( 3770 ) production cross section at its peak to be B [ ψ ( 3770 ) → e + e − ] = ( 0.97 ± 0.03 ± 0.05 ) × 10 −5 and σ prd [ e + e − → ψ ( 3770 ) ] = 10.0 ± 0.3 ± 0.5 nb , respectively. The latter one results in the corresponding observed cross section of σ obs [ e + e − → ψ ( 3770 ) ] = 7.2 ± 0.2 ± 0.4 nb . We have also measured R uds = 2.121 ± 0.023 ± 0.084 for the continuum light hadron production in the region from 3.650 to 3.872 GeV.

Abstract: With a sample of 14 × 10 6 ψ ( 2 S ) events collected by the BESII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the decay channels ψ ( 2 S ) → B 8 B ¯ 8 ( p p ¯ , Λ Λ ¯ , Σ 0 Σ ¯ 0 , Ξ − Ξ ¯ + ) are measured, and their branching ratios are determined to be ( 3.36 ± 0.09 ± 0.25 ) × 10 −4 , ( 3.39 ± 0.20 ± 0.32 ) × 10 −4 , ( 2.35 ± 0.36 ± 0.32 ) × 10 −4 , ( 3.03 ± 0.40 ± 0.32 ) × 10 −4 , respectively. In the decay ψ ( 2 S ) → p p ¯ , the angular distribution parameter α is determined to be 0.85 ± 0.24 ± 0.04 .

Abstract: Results are presented on J / ψ radiative decays to π + π − and π 0 π 0 based on a sample of 58M J / ψ events taken with the BES II detector. Partial wave analyses are carried out using the relativistic covariant tensor amplitude method in the 1.0 to 2.3 GeV / c 2 π π mass range. There are conspicuous peaks due to the f 2 ( 1270 ) and two 0 + + states in the 1.45 and 1.75 GeV / c 2 mass regions. The first 0 + + state has a mass of 1466 ± 6 ± 20 MeV / c 2 , a width of 108 −11 +14 ± 25 MeV / c 2 , and a branching fraction B ( J / ψ → γ f 0 ( 1500 ) → γ π + π − ) = ( 0.67 ± 0.02 ± 0.30 ) × 10 −4 . Spin 0 is strongly preferred over spin 2. The second 0 + + state peaks at 1765 −3 +4 ± 13 MeV / c 2 with a width of 145 ± 8 ± 69 MeV / c 2 . If this 0 + + is interpreted as coming from f 0 ( 1710 ) , the ratio of its branching fractions to ππ and K K ¯ is 0.41 −0.17 +0.11 .

Abstract: Using 14M psi(2S) events taken with the BESII detector, chi(cJ) -> 2(K+K-) decays are studied. For the four-kaon final state, the branching fractions are B(chi(c0,1,2) ->.2(K+K-)) = (3.48 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.47) x 10(-3), (0.70 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.10) x 10(-3), and (2.17 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3). For the phi K+K- final state, the branching fractions, which are measured for the first time, are B(chi(c0,1,2) -> phi K+K-) = (1.03 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15) x 10(-3), (0.46 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06) x 10(-3), and (1.67 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.24) x 10(-4). For the phi phi final state, B(chi(c0,2) -> phi phi) = (0.94 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13) x 10(-3) and (1.70 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.25) x 10(-3).

Abstract: Using the BES-II detector at the BEPC Collider, we measured the lowest order cross sections and the R values (R = sigma(0)(e+e--> hadrons)/sigma(0)(e+e-->mu+mu-)) for inclusive hadronic event production at the centre-of-mass energies of 3.650, 3.6648 and 3.773 GeV. The results lead to R-uds = 2.218 +/- 0.019 +/- 0.089 which is the average of these measured at 3.650 GeV and 3.6648 GeV, and R = 3.746 +/- 0.037 +/- 0.187 at root s = 3.773 GeV. We determined the lowest order cross section for psi (3770) production to be sigma(B)(psi)((3770)) = (9.323 +/- 0.253 +/- 0.801) nb at 3.773 GeV, the branching fractions for psi (3770) decays to be BF(psi (3770) -> D-0(D) over bar (0)) = (49.5 +/- 1.3 +/- 3.8)%, BF(psi (3770) -> D+D-) = (35.7 +/- 1.1 +/- 3.4)% and BF(psi (3770) -> D (D) over bar) = (85.5 +/- 1.7 +/- 5.8)%, which result in the total non-D (D) over bar branching fraction of psi(3770) decay to be BF(psi (3770) -> non-D (D) over bar) = (14.5 +/- 1.7 +/- 5.8)%. 26. Angular dependence of tunneling magnetoresistance in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 step-edge junctions

Abstract: La 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 (LSMO) tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) junctions have been fabricated on step-edge (0 0 1) SrTiO 3 substrates with a high step-edge angle. In the measurement of magnetoresistance (MR) ratio versus external magnetic field H , butterfly-like MR curves are clearly observed. The MR( H ) curves vary with θ , the angle between the applied magnetic field and the current direction in the substrate plane, showing anisotropic MR properties. A much broader MR( H ) response is observed for the configuration of H perpendicular to the substrate plane. Additionally, the maxima-MR field H p almost coincides with the coercive field H c for θ 60 ° but obeys a different form from H c ( θ ) . The high-field junction resistance shows an intrinsic sin 2 θ angular dependence, while the low-field resistance shows an extrinsic cos ( 4 θ ) angular dependence. The distinctive features are mainly due to the induced magnetization anisotropy in the artificial steps of grain boundaries.

Abstract: Based on 58 million BESII J / ψ events, the K ¯ ∗ ( 892 ) 0 K + π − channel in K + K − π + π − is studied. A clear low mass enhancement in the invariant mass spectrum of K + π − is observed. The low mass enhancement does not come from background of other J / ψ decay channels, nor from phase space. Two independent partial wave analyses have been performed. Both analyses favor that the low mass enhancement is the κ , an iso-spinor scalar resonant state. The average mass and width of the κ in the two analyses are 878 ± 23 −55 +64 MeV / c 2 and 499 ± 52 −87 +55 MeV / c 2 , respectively, corresponding to a pole at ( 841 ± 30 −73 +81 ) − i ( 309 ± 45 −72 +48 ) MeV / c 2 .

Abstract: Using 58 million J/psi events collected by the BES-II detector at the BEPC, the decays J/psi -> Lambda Lambda and Sigma(0)Sigma(0) are analysed. The branching fractions are measured to be Br(J/psi -> Lambda Lambda) = (2.03 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.15) x 10(-3) and Br(J/psi -> Sigma(0)Sigma(0)) = (1.33 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.11) x 10(-3). The angular distribution is of the form dN/dcos theta = N-0(1 + alpha cos(2)theta), with alpha = 0.65 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.03 for J/psi -> Lambda Lambda and alpha = -0.24 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.07 for J/psi -> Sigma(0)Sigma(0). Abstract: Using 14 million ψ ( 2 S ) events collected with the BESII detector, branching fractions of ψ ( 2 S ) → K ∗ ( 892 ) + K − + c.c. and K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 K ¯ 0 + c.c. are determined to be: B ( ψ ( 2 S ) → K ∗ ( 892 ) + K − + c.c. ) = ( 2.9 −1.7 +1.3 ± 0.4 ) × 10 −5 and B ( ψ ( 2 S ) → K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 K ¯ 0 + c.c. ) = ( 13.3 −2.7 +2.4 ± 1.7 ) × 10 −5 . The results confirm the violation of the “12% rule” for these two decay channels. A large isospin violation between the charged and neutral modes is observed.

Abstract: Based on a sample of 5.8 x 10(7) J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi -> 2(pi(+)pi(-))eta and J/psi -> 3(pi(+)pi(-))eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.27) x 10(-3) and (7.24 +/- 0.96 +/- 1.11) x 10(-4), respectively. Abstract: The absolute branching fraction for the decay D + → μ + ν has been directly measured based on a data sample of about 33 pb −1 collected around s = 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. A total of 5321 ± 149 ± 160 D − mesons are reconstructed in nine hadronic decay modes. In the system recoiling against these singly tagged D − mesons, 2.67 ± 1.74 purely leptonic decay events of D + → μ + ν μ are observed. Those yield the branching fraction of BF ( D + → μ + ν μ ) = ( 0.122 −0.053 +0.111 ± 0.010 ) % , and a corresponding value of the pseudoscalar decay constant f D + = ( 371 −119 +129 ± 25 ) MeV .

Abstract: The absolute branching fraction for the decay D + → K ¯ 0 e + ν e is determined using 5321 ± 149 ± 160 singly tagged D − event sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged D − mesons, 34.4 ± 6.1 events for D + → K ¯ 0 e + ν e are observed. Those yield the absolute branching fraction to be BF ( D + → K ¯ 0 e + ν e ) = ( 8.95 ± 1.59 ± 0.67 ) % . The ratio of the two partial widths for the decays of D 0 → K − e + ν e and D + → K ¯ 0 e + ν e is determined to be Γ ( D 0 → K − e + ν e ) / Γ ( D + → K ¯ 0 e + ν e ) = 1.08 ± 0.22 ± 0.07 .

Abstract: Evidence of ψ ( 3770 ) decays to a non- D D ¯ final state is observed. A total of 11.8 ± 4.8 ± 1.3 ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ π + π − events are obtained from a data sample of 27.7 pb−1 taken at center-of-mass energies around 3.773 GeV using the BES-II detector at the BEPC. The branching fraction is determined to be BF ( ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ π + π − ) = ( 0.34 ± 0.14 ± 0.09 ) % , corresponding to the partial width of Γ ( ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ π + π − ) = ( 80 ± 33 ± 23 ) keV .

Abstract: The lepton flavor violation processes J / ψ → μ τ and eτ are searched for using a sample of 5.8 × 10 7 J / ψ events collected with the BESII detector. Zero and one candidate events, consistent with the estimated background, are observed in J / ψ → μ τ , τ → e ν ¯ e ν τ and J / ψ → e τ , τ → μ ν ¯ μ ν τ decays, respectively. Upper limits on the branching ratios are determined to be Br ( J / ψ → μ τ ) 2.0 × 10 − 6 and Br ( J / ψ → e τ ) 8.3 × 10 − 6 at the 90% confidence level (C.L.).

Abstract: The absolute branching fractions for the decays D 0 → K − e + ν e and D 0 → π − e + ν e are determined using 7584 ± 198 ± 341 singly tagged D ¯ 0 sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged D ¯ 0 meson, 104.0 ± 10.9 events for D 0 → K − e + ν e and 9.0 ± 3.6 events for D 0 → π − e + ν e decays are observed. Those yield the absolute branching fractions to be BF ( D 0 → K − e + ν e ) = ( 3.82 ± 0.40 ± 0.27 ) % and BF ( D 0 → π − e + ν e ) = ( 0.33 ± 0.13 ± 0.03 ) % . The vector form factors are determined to be | f + K ( 0 ) | = 0.78 ± 0.04 ± 0.03 and | f + π ( 0 ) | = 0.73 ± 0.14 ± 0.06 . The ratio of the two form factors is measured to be | f + π ( 0 ) / f + K ( 0 ) | = 0.93 ± 0.19 ± 0.07 .

Abstract: The CP violating processes J / ψ → K 0 S K 0 S and ψ (2 S )→ K 0 S K 0 S are searched for using samples of 58 million J / ψ and 14 million ψ (2 S ) events collected with the Beijing spectrometer at the Beijing electron–positron collider. No signal is observed, and upper limits on the decay branching ratios are determined to be B (J/ψ→K 0 S K 0 S ) −6 and B (ψ(2S)→K 0 S K 0 S ) −6 at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract: In a sample of 58 million $J/\psi$ events collected with the BES II detector, the process J/$\psi\to\gamma\eta_c$ is observed in five different decay channels: $\gamma K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^-$, $\gamma\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$, $\gamma K^\pm K^0_S \pi^\mp$ (with $K^0_S\to\pi^+\pi^-$), $\gamma \phi\phi$ (with $\phi\to K^+K^-$) and $\gamma p\bar{p}$. From a combined fit of all five channels, we determine the mass and full-width of $\eta_c$ to be $m_{\eta_c}=2977.5\pm1.0 ({stat.})\pm1.2 ({syst.})$ MeV/$c^2$ and $\Gamma_{\eta_c} = 17.0\pm3.7 ({stat.})\pm7.4 ({syst.})$ MeV/$c^2$., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures and 4 table. 41. ACTIVE CONTROL OF SOUND RADIATION FROM A RECTANGULAR PLATE EXCITED BY A LINE MOMENT

Abstract: This paper analytically investigates the active control of sound radiation from a simply supported rectangular plate with line moment excitation. This model simulates ship hull vibration due to the flutter of the ship's deck or the vibration of a fuselage due to the flutter of an aircraft wing. Two control strategies, volume velocity cancellation and radiated sound power minimization, are applied to drive a long and narrow piezoelectric actuator to reduce the radiated power. The result shows that a reduction of radiated power by these two control strategies is made possible by the mechanisms of modal suppression and modal restructuring. A numerical analysis shows that the performance of the active control method is related to the location of the line moment and an actuator. For the case in which the line moment is excited at the midline of the plate, the strategy of volume velocity cancellation is unable to reduce the sound radiated power. However, in the case where the actuator is located at the midline of the plate, both control strategies lead to the same reduction in radiated power except the control of the radiation of modes (even, 1). On the other hand, there exists a large amount of sound power radiation near the low frequency resonate mode (even, 1) when the line moment and the actuator are located off the midline of a plate and volume velocity cancellation is applied to control the radiated power from the plate.

Abstract: A partial wave analysis of BES J / ψ → γ ( ηπ + π − ) data has been performed in the mass region 1.1 to 2.0 GeV. A peak is observed due to η (1440) in the ηπ + π − invariant mass distribution; J P =0 − is preferred over 1 + . Its mass is M =1385±7 MeV and it decays into both ησ and a 0 (980) π , with BR[ a 0 (980) π , a 0 → ηπ / ησ ]=0.70±0.12( stat )±0.20( syst ). Destructive interference between the two decay modes is observed. In addition, in the higher ηπ + π − mass region, there is a definite 2 −+ signal, with M =1840±15 MeV and Γ =170±40 MeV and an additional 0 −+ signal at 1760±35 MeV. We also find a possible contribution from a 1 ++ signal decaying dominantly through a 0 (980) π ; its mass and width are fitted to be M =1505±20 MeV and Γ =130 −20 +50 MeV.

Abstract: Purely leptonic decays of the charged D meson have been studied using the reaction e + e − →D ∗+ D − at a center of mass energy of 4.03 GeV. A search was performed for D→μνμ recoiling against a D0 or D+ which had been reconstructed from its hadronic decay products. A single event candidate was found in the reaction e + e − →D ∗+ D − , where D ∗+ →π + D 0 with the D0→K−π+, and the recoiling D− decaying via D − →μ − ν μ . This yields a branching fraction value B(D→μνμ)=0.08−0.05−0.02+0.16+0.05%, and a corresponding value of the pseudoscalar decay constant fD=300−150−40+180+80 MeV.

Abstract: With 7.8 million produced J / ψ events collected by the BES detector at the BEPC, decays J/ψ→Λ Λ ,Λ Λ γ and Λ Λ π 0 are analysed. The branching ratios are measured to be Br (J/ψ→Λ Λ )=(1.08±0.06±0.24)×10 −3 , Br (J/ψ→Λ Λ γ) −4 (90% C.L. ) , Br (J/ψ→Λ Λ π 0 )=(2.3±0.7±0.8)×10 −4 , respectively. The angular distribution for J/ψ→Λ Λ is of the form d N d cos θ =N 0 (1+α cos 2 θ) , from which we determine α =0.52±0.33±0.13.

Abstract: Deep levels in insulating GaN grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) have been studied using thermally stimulated current (TSC) and photocurrent (PC) spectroscopies. Five main levels (0.11, 0.24, 0.36, 0.53 and 0.62 eV) were observed by TSC measurements in the as-grown undoped GaN. PC measurements showed three deep levels located within bandgap at 1.32, 1.70 and 2.36 eV, respectively. We found that three of the levels, located at 0.24, 0.36 and 0.53 eV, were eliminated by annealing at 1000°C under N2 for six hours, whereas the 0.62 eV level density increased after annealing. In addition, both the responsivity and on/off times of GaN metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) detectors degrade with increasing concentration of the 0.62 eV trap. We have also found that this trap can be effectively reduced by increasing the ammonia flow rate during the MOVPE growth. Accordingly, a high responsivity (∼ 3200 A/W) UV detector with an improved response time, from 8 to 0.4 ms, was fabricated on GaN grown under the optimized conditions.

Abstract: We demonstrate that high-quality AlGaAs and AlGaInP epilayers and AlGaAs/GaAs multi-quantum well (MQW) structures can be regrown directly on AlGaAs by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). The quality of regrown layers and structures was significantly improved when they were grown on Se-doped AlGaAs substrate-layers compared to on undoped AlGaAs substrate-layers. The full width of half maximum (FWHM) of the bound exciton (BE) peak of Al 0.13 Ga 0.87 As grown on Se-doped Al 0.26 Ga 0.74 As was as low as 4.5 meV measured by low temperature (15 K) photoluminescence (PL). In addition, the PL emissions from an AlGaAs/GaAs quantum well structures which were grown directly on Se-doped AlGaAs was observed for the first time. Other characterization results also show that the quality of layers grown on Se-doped AlGaAs substrate-layers is almost identical to that of layers grown on GaAs substrates.

50. Very low defect density ZnSe grown on GaAs by atmospheric pressure metal organic chemical vapor deposition

Abstract: Very low defect density ZnSe epilayers on GaAs substrates have been grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and the layers were characterized by various techniques. ZnSe epilayers were grown using diethylzinc (DEZn) and diethylselenide (DESe) as source materials. Growth studies were done at 400 °C under a Se-started growth condition in an atmospheric pressure MOCVD reactor. Different GaAs substrates were used to study the effect of substrates on the ZnSe quality. The as-grown ZnSe epilayers were characterized by double crystal X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy. The results show excellent surface morphology and crystal quality for ZnSe. The best material was grown on undoped GaAs. A full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of the ZnSe (≈0.2 μ m thick) X-ray peak as low as 90 arc s was achieved. TEM results show that ZnSe epilayers grown on undoped GaAs have a very low stacking fault density and a large spacing between misfit dislocations. The density of the stacking faults is less than 10 5 cm – , which is more than three orders of magnitude lower than that of samples grown by conventional molecular beam epitaxy [J. Petruzzello et al., J. Appl. Phys. , 63 (1988) 2299] and MOCVD [J.L. Batstone et al., Philos. Mag. A , 66 (1992) 609], The spacing between misfit dislocations is between 5 and 10 μ m, which is 10–20 times that of reported samples of comparable thickness.
