1. Immunopathological effects of ochratoxin A and T-2 toxin combination on broilers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunopathological effects of combinations of ochratoxin A (OTA) and T-2 toxin on broilers. Four hundred eighty 1-d-old broilers were randomly assigned to 4 groups, each group consisting of 4 duplicates each with 30 broilers. The 4 groups were fed the following diets for 4 wk: group 1=basal diet (control, mycotoxin-free); group 2=basal diet+2,000 mg/kg of Mycofix Plus; group 3=basal diet+0.25 mg/kg of OTA and 0.5 mg/kg of T-2; and group 4=basal diet+0.25 mg/kg of OTA and 0.5 mg/kg of T-2+2,000 mg/kg of Mycofix Plus. The feeding of OTA-T-2 toxin diets reduced (P0.05) the level of anti-Newcastle disease virus antibody titers by 10.4%. When broilers were administered lipopolysaccharide, the results of real-time PCR showed that broilers fed OTA-T-2 toxin reduced the cytokine mRNA expression levels of interleukin-2 and interferon-gamma to some extent but not significantly (P0.05). The concentrations of interleukin-2 and interferon-gamma in serum were significantly decreased (P0.05) by OTA-T-2 toxin combination. Histopathological studies demonstrated that OTA-T-2 toxin combination caused abnormalities in the thymus, bursa of Fabricius, spleen, and liver. Ochratoxin A-T-2 toxicity could be counteracted by Mycofix Plus partially but not significantly (P0.05). The concentrations of OTA and T-2 toxin used in this study are under the maximum tolerated levels recommended by Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Our study clearly put the standard and detoxification method for these toxins into question. We suggest that it may be time to reduce the maximum allowable limits of OTA and T-2 mycotoxins in feeds to improve animal health and the safety of the food chain.

2. Node-based dynamic adaptive grid with quadrilateral and hexahedral elements

Abstract

A node-based data structure is developed for use in either two-dimensional (2-D) or three-dimensional (3-D) finite element method (FEM) problems. This grid uses quadrilateral (2-D) or hexahedral (3-D) elements and is dynamically adaptive according to the 1-irregular requirement for refinement–derefinement. Implemented in C++, the grid consists of node objects linked with pointers to neighboring node objects. The algorithm used to traverse the grid starts at the first node of the grid and constructs each FEM element by following the links of the nodes. This algorithm uses a stack to maintain the correct order of elements during the grid traversals. Because the elements and their connectivity are not permanently stored, the computer storage requirements for the grid are reduced significantly in 3-D compared with an element-based approach. Although the node-based approach may increase the CPU-time and complexity to access an element, it reduces the complexity and time required to refine and derefine an element. This implementation is applicable to many FEM domains.

Abstract

We report a measurement of R b = Γ b b Γ had from Z → q q events at LEP. Z → b b events are identified using a multidimensional analysis based on a neural network approach. We obtain 60% sample purity with an efficiency of 35%. Our measured value of R b is 0.222±0.003±0.007.

Abstract

We search for neutral heavy leptons that are isosinglets under the standard SU(2)L gauge group. Such neutral heavy leptons are expected in many extensions of the standard model. Three types of heavy leptons Ne, N(mu), N(tau) associated with the three neutrino types nu(e), nu(mu), nu(tau) have been directly searched for and no evidence for a signal has been found. We set the limit Br(Z0 --> nu(l)N(l)) < 3 x 10(-5) at the 95% CL for the mass range from 3 GeV up to m(Z).

Abstract

We have measured the total and differential cross sections of the reaction e+e− → γγ(γ) at center-of-mass energies around 91 GeV, with an integrated luminosity of 14.2 pb−1. The results are in good agreement with QED predictions. We set lower limits, at 95% confidence level, on the QED cutoff parameters of Λ+ > 139 GeV, Λ− > 108 GeV and on the mass of an excited electron of m e∗ > 127 GeV . We searched for Z0 rare decays with photonic signitures in the final state. Upper limits, at 95% confidence level, for branching ratio of Z0 decaying into π0γ/γγ, νγ and γγγ are 1.2 × 10−4, 1.8 × 10−4, 3.3 × 10−5 respectively.

Abstract

We present a study of 43 000 3-jet events from Z0 boson decays. Both the measured jet energy distributions and the event orientation are reproduced by second order QCD. An alternative model with scalar gluons fails to describe the data. © 1991.

Abstract

We have measured the forward-backward asymmetry in Z 0 → b b decays using hadronic events containing muons and electrons. The data sample corresponds to 118 200 hadronic events at √s≈Mz. From a fit to the single and dilepton p and P⊥ spectra, we determine A b b =0.130 −0.042 +0.044 including the correction for B 0 − B 0 mixing.

Abstract

Whatever the field, major change implies as much as deep transformation of thinking i.e to put in network new skills in particular, those made available by the availability of new technologies. In this context, only one individual cannot join together all necessary skills. It becomes clear that the goal of space valorization cannot be considered without relational investment between the partners and their accumulated background. The local empowerment concerns a collective phenomenon of acquisition and development of skills rests on an learning way appropriate to the potential of the territory to form or promote. The local mediation sets for objective the creation of relations between pre-existent skills and their transfer between the actors, individuals or groups, private or public. But the capacity of the territory to solve these problems will depend closely on the richness of the network and co-operations which it shelters or it will suggest.
