This special issue contains a selection of articles on globalization and fintech. The contributions provide new insights on reform of the international economic order, paying special attention to uncertainty and economic policy coordination. They will certainly help improve our understanding of these topics.

Pricing is important to the functioning of markets for technology. A considerable body of research has studied how various factors contribute to determining prices, yet the effects of both technology providers’ and buyers’ prestige on prices remain underexplored. This study investigates how prestige affects pricing in university–firm technology transactions. We argue that prestige shapes prices by influencing both technology valuation and negotiations. Using transaction data on patented university technologies in Zhejiang Province in China during the period spanning 2017–2019, we examine the relationship between inventor team prestige and transaction prices. We also investigate how this relationship depends on organizational prestige, specifically that of a supplying university and a buying firm. We find a positive relationship between inventor team prestige and transaction prices. Furthermore, this relationship is positively moderated by university prestige, while it is negatively moderated by firm prestige. This study generates implications for universities as they manage technology transfer to firms.

We introduce proper display calculi for basic monotonic modal logic, the conditional logic CK and a number of their axiomatic extensions. These calculi are sound, complete, conservative, and enjoy cut elimination and subformula property. Our proposal applies the multi-type methodology in the design of proper display calculi, starting from a semantic analysis which motivates syntactic translations from single-type non-normal modal logics to multi-type normal poly-modal logics.

This paper investigates entrepreneurs' satisfaction. We conceptually replicate and extend Carree and Verheul’s (2012) Dutch study on the drivers of entrepreneurs' satisfaction with data from Belgian entrepreneurs. Thus, we respond to the need to replicate more in the (social) sciences, including entrepreneurship studies. The ‘extension’ aspect contributes novel theoretical understanding and empirical explanatory power of entrepreneurs' satisfaction. Specifically, the paper introduces psychological flexibility as an important new predictor of entrepreneurs' satisfaction. Indeed, we provide evidence that entrepreneurs with greater psychological flexibility are, on average, more satisfied.

We address the lack of studies focusing on internal organizational sponsorship mechanisms, while considering environmental influencers and focus on a specific type of organizational sponsorship to do so: Business incubators. We argue that to be able to offer a customized incubatee-strengthening service pack, incubator-incubatee interaction is key, requiring clear-cut and directive service co-development instructions, which is our focal construct. To better understand the functioning of this focal construct, we adopt a contingency approach to examine how the incubator's human capital, and the institutional environment impact the incubator's service co-development directiveness. A quantitative empirical study reveals that both human capital and an entrepreneurially-minded regulative and cognitive institutional environment allow an incubator to be directive, thereby laying a foundation for co-development of customized service offerings. Moreover, the incubator's human capital turns out to further stimulate the positive effects of an entrepreneurially-minded regulative environment. All in all, we find that both internal organizational and external institutional elements are pivotal for first-best implementation of the internal sponsorship mechanism ‘service co-development directiveness’.
