Despite decades of intensive studies, the failure to identify plasmodesmata (PD) localization sequences has constrained our understanding of Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) movement. Recently, we identified the first PD localization signal (major PLS) in the TMV movement protein (MP), which encompasses the first 50 amino acid residues of the MP. Although the major PLS is sufficient for PD targeting, the efficiency is lower than the full-length TMV MP. To address this efficiency gap, we identified two additional PLS domains encompassing amino acid residues 61 to 80, and 147 to 170 of the MP and showed that these two domains target to PD, but do not transit to adjacent cells. We also demonstrated that the MP61-80 fragment interacts with Arabidopsis synaptotagmin A, which was also shown to interact with the major TMV MP PLS. Therefore, our findings have provided new insights to more fully understand the mechanism underlying plasmodesmal targeting of TMV MP.

Summary Background Ischaemia-reperfusion injury is considered an inevitable component of organ transplantation, compromising organ quality and outcomes. Although several treatments have been proposed, none has avoided graft ischaemia and its detrimental consequences. Methods Ischaemia-free liver transplantation (IFLT) comprises surgical techniques enabling continuous oxygenated blood supply to the liver of brain-dead donor during procurement, preservation, and implantation using normothermic machine perfusion technology. In this non-randomised study, 38 donor livers were transplanted using IFLT and compared to 130 conventional liver transplants (CLT). Findings Two recipients (5•3%) in the IFLT group experienced early allograft dysfunction, compared to 50•0% in patients receiving conventional transplants (absolute risk difference, 44•8%; 95% confidence interval, 33•6-55•9%). In this work, three-dimensional (3D) tubular molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)/PPy composites have been prepared, in which the MoS2 is as the framework to promote the insertion and extraction of electrolyte ions, and PPy spherical particles or nanowires are synthesized by an in-situ oxidative polymerization method in the presence of the MoS2. FT-IR, XRD, XPS, FESEM and HRTEM are used to characterize the structures and morphologies of the as-prepared materials. The combination of conductive PPy and 3D tubular MoS2 leads to a significant synergistic effect. For MoS2/PPy particle composites, the best performance (specific capacitance of 350 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g) is obtained from a sample prepared with the mass ratio of pyrrole to MoS2 being 2:1. While for MoS2/PPy nanowire composites, the best performance (specific capacitance of 462 F/g at 1 A/g and a good cycling stability of 82% after 2000 cycles at 3 A/g) is obtained from a sample prepared with the mass ratio of pyrrole to MoS2 being 5:1, which shows much better supercapacitor performance than the MoS2/PPy composite. Moreover, the composite electrode material delivers an energy density as high as 25.5 Wh/kg at a power density of 266.3 W/kg and maintains 14.5 Wh/kg at a high power density of 4002 W/kg. These performances feature the composite as advanced negative electrode materials and are superior to previous reports.

A Ge/Si(0 0 1) multilayer structure is investigated by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and double crystal X-lay diffraction. We find that the multilayer-structure-related satellite peaks in the rocking curve exhibit a similar nonuniform broadening and rye fit the zero-order peak with two Lorentz lineshapes. The ratio of the integrated intensity of two peaks is approximately equal with the anal ratio of the top Ge layer deposited between the areas that are and are not occupied by islands. A low-temperature Si0.8Ge0.2 (LT-Si0.8Ge0.2) interlayer was grown at 500 degrees C to improve the relaxed Si0.8Ge0.2 surface and reduce the dislocation density in it, which was confirmed by the change of reflective high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) pattern from spotty to streaky and etch pits counts. For the same extent of strain; the threading dislocation density was reduced from 8 x 10(7) cm(-2) in the latter to 2 x 10(6) cm(-2) in the former. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
