This paper considers the basic trends in the development of qualitative and quantitative methods for expert information analysis — mathematical apparatus for such non-trivial fields of research such as prediction, program-oriented planning, etc.

Current drive in a tokamak by electrostatic electron Bernstein waves is investigated. It is shown that a sufficiently large refractive index of these waves may result in regimes of rf power dissipation in which the effect of electron trapping into “banana” orbits will be essentially diminished. Besides, a stronger (as compared with O- and X-modes) absorption of electrostatic electron Bernstein modes results in an rf power input into more energetic electrons which is also favourable for the increase of the current drive efficiency.

A new class of near-somic Langmuir solitons with a discrete spectrum of eigenvalues is obtained taking into account charge separation in ion-sound oscillations of a plasma.

It is shown that the modulational instability of upper-hybrid oscillations in a magnetized plasma gives rise to a one-dimensional collapse of the field distribution accompanied by significant absorption of the high-frequency wave energy.
