Highlights • The rat PKR2 mRNA exists in two splicing variant, PKR2 wt and TM 4–7. • TM 4–7 lacks the N-terminal region comprising the first three transmembrane helics. • TM 4–7 is expressed in rat hippocampus. • TM 4–7 heterodimerizes with PKR2 and couples to Gα q and Gα s but not to Gα i. • TM 4–7 inhibits STAT3 activation in hippocampus of Aβ 1–42 injected rats.
