In order to solve the problem of basalt fibers (BFs) lacking magnetic properties, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were modified onto the surface of BFs using a simple and non-damaging sizing method. Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were first prepared by the co-precipitation method and then separately modified with citric acid (Fe 3 O 4 @CA) and sodium oleate (Fe 3 O 4 @NaOL). Three types of Fe 3 O 4 magnetic colloids were obtained by dispersing Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles into a mixture consisting of PVA and KH-550. Subsequently, Fe 3 O 4 sizing agent made of the Fe 3 O 4 magnetic colloids were used to prepare the magnetic BFs by spraying the sizing agent during the process of drawing BFs. SEM images showed uniform morphologies on the BFs surface after being sized with the Fe 3 O 4 sizing agent. Notably, the saturation magnetization of Fe 3 O 4 @CA/BFs composite reaches the highest value of 41.3 emu/g, which is 19.3 % and 184.8 % larger than that of Fe 3 O 4 @NaOL/BFs composite and unmodified Fe 3 O 4 /BFs composite, respectively. The interfacial mechanism of magnetic BFs coated with the Fe 3 O 4 @CA sizing agent was elucidated. The formation of the Si-O bonds between BFs and KH-550, and the Si-O-C bonds between KH-550 and Fe 3 O 4 @CA, significantly improves the interfacial adhesion of magnetic BFs. In this study, the feasibility of preparing a calcined laterite–phosphoric acid–Fe 3 O 4 -based geopolymer is investigated and its application for immobilizing radioactive borate liquid waste (RBLW) is explored. The addition of Fe 3 O 4 enhances the compressive strength of the geopolymer and mitigates the retardation effects on the geopolymer caused by RBLW. Reactions between Fe 3 O 4 and H 3 PO 4 not only promote the geopolymerization process by generating heat and forming additional geopolymer gel, but also produce amorphous iron–phosphorus phases, contributing to higher compressive strength of the waste forms. Moreover, partial replacement of [AlO 4 ] tetrahedra with [FeO 6 ] octahedra creates stable –Fe–O–P–O–Al–O–Si– network structures. The geopolymer waste forms exhibit remarkable leaching resistance after Fe 3 O 4 addition owing to the reduced open porosity, leading to radionuclide immobilization through physical encapsulation more efficiently. Furthermore, residual Fe 3 O 4 may contribute to Co2+ immobilization through magnetic adsorption. Overall, the calcined laterite–phosphoric acid–Fe 3 O 4 -based geopolymer waste forms exhibit excellent performance in immobilizing RBLW, offering a new strategy for RBLW treatment. • A series of novel chitosan-based magnetic flocculants was prepared by molecular structure control. • Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @CTS-P(AM-DMC) can effectively removal turbidity from 200 to 2000 NTU. • Magnetic flocs form eddy currents and experience acceleration, stabilization, and deceleration stages. • Charge neutralization was dominant under acidic and neutral conditions, while adsorption and bridging effects play an important role in alkaline environments. A series of novel chitosan-based magnetic flocculants FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC) was prepared by molecular structure control. The characterization results showed that FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC) had a uniform size of about 21.46 nm, featuring a typical core-shell structure, and the average coating layer thickness of CTS-P(AM-DMC) was about 5.03 nm. FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC) exhibited excellent flocculation performance for kaolin suspension, achieved 92.54% turbidity removal efficiency under dosage of 150 mg/L, pH 7.0, even at high turbidity (2000 NTU) with a removal efficiency of 96.96%. The flocculation mechanism was revealed to be dominated by charge neutralization under acidic and neutral conditions, while adsorption and bridging effects play an important role in alkaline environments. The properties of magnetic aggregates during flocculation, breakage, and regeneration were studied at different pH levels and dosages. In the process of magnetophoretic, magnetic particles collide and adsorb with kaolin particles continuously due to magnetic and electrostatic attraction, transform into magnetic chain clusters, and then further form three-dimensional network magnetic aggregates that can capture free kaolin particles and other chain clusters. Two new magnetic/ceramic/carbon and magnetic/ceramic/polymer/carbon nanocomposites were created by decorating the surface of MWCNT with magnetic/ceramic (Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 NPs) and magnetic/ceramic/polymer (Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI). First, in order to have a narrow size distribution and high saturation magnetization, Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 NPs were produced successively under ideal conditions. Subsequently, Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 NPs were produced by coating them with a thin layer of SiO 2. Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /MWCNT nanocomposite was created by applying Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /NPs at a specified weight ratio (1/2) to the MWCNT surface. Subsequently, Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 NPs were utilized as an initiator to polymerize the aniline; as a result, Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI NPs were created and the polyaniline grew at their surface. Ultimately, Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI NPs were added to MWCNT at a weight ratio of 1/2, resulting in the synthesis of a Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI/MWCNT nanocomposite. XRD, SEM, and TEM pictures verified the effective synthesis of Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /MWCNT and Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI/MWCNT nanocomposites. By evaluating their EM characteristics, the microwave absorption properties of these composites were characterized. The findings shown that for the Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /MWCNT nanocomposite with an effective bandwidth of 5.7 GHz, the minimum reflection loss reached −18.5 dB. For the Fe 2 O 3 /Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /PANI/MWCNT nanocomposite, there was a considerable improvement in both minimum reflection loss and bandwidth in comparison with similar composites. Fabric-based microwave absorbing materials are favored due to their excellent flexibility and lightweight. However, the complex preparation method and unsatisfactory absorbing properties limit its mass production and practical application. Herein, a graphene@MXene@Fe 3 O 4 wave-absorbing slurry was prepared and coated on pre-treated aramid non-woven fabric by screen printing, to obtain flexible and efficient wave-absorbing modified fabric. Based on the high dielectric loss capacity of graphene and MXene, the magnetic loss can be successfully managed by modifying the Fe 3 O 4 content of the slurry to modulate the impedance matching, reflection loss (RL), and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB). The graphene@MXene@Fe 3 O 4 modified fabric demonstrated impressive microwave absorbing properties after multi-component integration and interface optimization. Notably, under an ultra-thin thickness of 1.5 mm, the reflection loss (RL min) value of the modified fabric reaches −47.6 dB under the X band. This work also establishes the way for the development of flexible and ultra-thin microwave absorbers utilizing a straightforward approach, which has a wide range of applications in the field of flexible absorbing materials. In recent years, MXene has gained widespread attention in the field of microwave absorption (MA) due to its unique two-dimensional layered structure, excellent electrical conductivity, and chemically active surface. However, the MA mechanism of MXene is limited to dielectric loss alone, which poses a challenge in meeting the performance requirements of new absorbers. Therefore, to enhance the performance of MXene in MA, this paper successfully prepared Fe 3 O 4 /NC@MXene (FNCM) composites by modifying core-shell magnetic nanoparticles of nitrogen-doped carbon coated Fe 3 O 4 (Fe 3 O 4 /NC) on MXene. By adjusting the dose of Fe 3 O 4 /PDA precursor, the impedance matching is further optimized. FNCM-2 demonstrates superior MA performance with a thickness of 2mm, achieving a minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −54.41 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 7.32 GHz. Meanwhile, the RL min of the FNCM-1 sample at a thickness of 2 mm can reach −55.65 dB. The remarkable improvement in MA performance can be attributed to the synergistic effect of dielectric and magnetic losses, which optimizes impedance matching. Homogeneous Fenton (Fe2+/H 2 O 2) serves as a high-efficiency conditioning method for sludge dewatering due to the generation of strong oxidizing hydroxyl radicals (OH). However, high dose of ferric salts produces iron-rich dewatered sludge and decrease sludge organic matters, which will not be conducive to the subsequent disposal and reutilization. Considering advantages of Fe 3 O 4 as heterogeneous Fenton catalyst, Fe 3 O 4 -activated H 2 O 2 (Fe 3 O 4 + H 2 O 2) in this study was adopted to improve sludge deep-dewatering. Reduction efficiency of the bound water (71.3 %) after Fe 3 O 4 + H 2 O 2 treatment (after a reaction time of 30 min) were much higher than those in the Fe2++H 2 O 2 treatment. Especially, the moisture content of treated sludge cake by Fe 3 O 4 + H 2 O 2 remarkably decreased from 86.4 % to 61.3 %. Improvement mechanism of sludge dewatering after Fe 3 O 4 + H 2 O 2 treatment mainly included electrostatic neutralization, reactive radical oxidation, and skeleton building by analysis of contribution factors. The generation of H+ in acidification could neutralize the negatively charged compounds to promote sludge hydrophobicity. Meanwhile reactive radicals generated from Fe 3 O 4 + H 2 O 2 destroyed sludge extracellular polymeric substances and cell structure to release intracellular water. Furthermore, Fe 3 O 4 as a skeleton builder could reconstruct destructive sludge flocs and form new dewatering channels. Innovatively regulating the crystalline-amorphous (c-a) interface of electrode materials is critical for enhancing supercapacitor and electrochemical water splitting performance. In this research, an oxygen defect-rich Fe 3 O 4 @Fe electrode material with a unique and tunable c-a interface was synthesized using prussian blue (PB) as a template. The resulting interface facilitates electron transport and ion diffusion, increases the charge storage active sites, and enhances energy storage capacity. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations demonstrated that oxygen defects can effectively enhance ionic conductivity and facilitate electrochemical water splitting. The optimal Fe 3 O 4 @Fe electrode exhibits remarkable specific capacitance (1526.766 mF cm−2 at 1 mA cm−2) and exceptional oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance, with overpotential values of 231 and 359 mV at 10 mA cm−2, respectively. Furthermore, as an overall water splitting electrocatalyst, the optimal Fe 3 O 4 @Fe can reach 10 mA cm−2 at a battery voltage of 1.645 V, demonstrating its tremendous potential as a highly efficient electrocatalyst. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) possess remarkable advantages in terms of abundant reserves, high theoretical capacity, and low cost. However, the current graphite anodes fail to meet the daily requirements of individuals. The study of novel high-energy storage LIBs anode materials is increasingly imperative. Ferroferric oxide (Fe 3 O 4) anode material is listed as a research object due to its exceptional theoretical specific capacity, cost-effectiveness, sufficient resources, and simple preparation process. However, the low conductivity and volume expansion issues limit its long-term development and widespread application. Recently, extensive research has been reported on Fe 3 O 4 composite electrode materials with diverse structures, achieving significant achievements. This review summarizes the latest progress in high-performance Fe 3 O 4 composites based on recent research. Herein, Fe 3 O 4 composite anode materials based on dimensions is categorized and the structure-property relationship with different dimensions is covered. This work will motivate the preparation of Fe 3 O 4 -based composites electrodes with high electrochemical performance for lithium-ion batteries, aims to promote the commercial application of rechargeable lithium-ion energy storages. In this paper, Magnetite/Saponite (Fe 3 O 4 /Sap) composites were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and co-precipitation. The prepared Fe 3 O 4 /sap composites had high purity and good crystallinity, and nano-Fe 3 O 4 was uniformly dispersed on the surface of saponite. Moreover, the removal efficiency of Fe 3 O 4 /Sap composites for Cr (VI) in water was evaluated. This study revealed the existence of abundant oxygen vacancies and hydroxyl groups on the surface of Saponite. During the synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 on the surface of Sap, the multi-directional crystallization can be controlled to increase the reaction activity of the system. Besides, the prepared Fe 3 O 4 /Sap composites provided more reactive edges compared to Fe 3 O 4 in the process of removing Cr (VI). The removal amount of Cr (VI) was found to be 17.95 ​mg/g. The successful preparation of the Fe 3 O 4 /Sap composites and the revelation of the Cr (VI) adsorption mechanism are of great significance for the efficient and green removal of heavy metal pollutants in sewage. Hierarchically porous carbon materials provide favorable conditions for electromagnetic wave loss enhancement due to the superimposed positive influence of multilevel pores. However, high production costs and complex preparation limit their large-scale production. Biomass carbon with a natural hierarchically porous structure offers an alternative; however, the impedance mismatch and single-loss mechanism prevent biomass carbon from being an ideal absorbent for broadband and strong absorption. In this study, a series of magnetic hierarchically porous biomass carbons were prepared using a facile adsorption-inert calcination method. The natural hierarchical porous structure of the loofah sponge provides numerous adsorption sites for ferric ions, which are transformed in situ into Fe 3 O 4 during calcination to regulate the conductivity. The impedance matching and electromagnetic loss properties of the biomass carbon/Fe 3 O 4 composites were adjusted by varying the amount of ferric nitrate. Optimal performance occurs when ferric nitrate weighs 0.8 g, and the calcination temperature is 600 °C. Under these conditions, the effective absorption bandwidth reaches 5.28 GHz (11.84–17.12 GHz, 2.5 mm), and the minimum reflection loss (RL min) is as low as −52.54 dB (4.5 mm), which is achieved by superior impedance matching and strong conduction loss together with polarization loss due heterogeneous interfaces and carbon defects. Dicamba (DIC) posed significant hazards to aquatic environment owing to its toxic and refractory property in agricultural production, which has been paid increasing concern. Herein, a novel magnetic montmorillonite composite (Fe 3 O 4 /Mt) was fabricated for catalyzing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to decompose DIC. The results exhibited that 3.0 mM PMS and 2.0 g/L Fe 3 O 4 /Mt could decompose nearly 90% of DIC, and the removal efficiency of DIC stayed above 66% after 10 cycles. The electron spin resonance tests and quenching experiments revealed that SO 4 •– and •OH were the main active radicals responding for DIC degradation. Moreover, based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and LC-MS, C1, C2, C4, and C5 atoms of DIC with high electrophilic activity were prone to be attacked by radicals, and were ultimately decomposed into five degradation intermediates. Finally, the toxicity assessment proved that most of the intermediates exhibited lower toxicity levels than that of DIC. These findings demonstrated that Fe 3 O 4 /Mt was a recyclable, stable, and safe catalyst for activation PMS to decompose persistent organic pollutants in contaminated water. Reasonable design and optimization of the dielectric and magnetic properties of materials are important to achieve excellent electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption capacities. Residual carbon (RC) derived from coal gasification fine slag-loaded hollow-spherical Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs@RC) was synthesized via hydrothermal strategy. The chemical compositions, morphologies, structures, and electromagnetic parameters of the as-prepared RC and Fe 3 O 4 NPs@RC revealed that the phase components (RC and Fe 3 O 4 phases) and microstructure (hollow spherical and micro/nano blocks) were well modified by modulating the content of Fe 3 O 4. Such modifications result in variations in the hierarchical structure, defects, electromagnetic parameters, and EMW absorption performance. The Fe 3 O 4 NPs@RC composites (S1 and S2) exhibited superior EMW absorption capacity. The binary composite with an additive amount of FeCl 3 ·6H 2 O of 2.66 g (S2) exhibited the minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −32.6 dB at 2.0 mm and a broad absorption bandwidth (f e , RL less than −10 dB) of 4.64 GHz at a lower thickness value of 1.65 mm under a filler content of 40%. In addition, the ultra-broad f e reached 14.35 GHz, which contained the entire Ku, X, and C bands by easily regulating the thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 5 mm. A possible EMW absorption mechanism was proposed. This study offers an effective strategy for designing novel coal gasification solid waste-based materials for high-performance absorbers. [Display omitted] • The use of the Fe 3 O 4 @C 3D electrode for efficient degradation of the MB. • Na 2 S 2 O 3 electrolyte optimised the Fe2+/Fe3+ cycle and extended the applicable pH range of the electrode. • The presence of Na 2 S 2 O 3 reduces iron dissolution and improves the cyclic degradation properties of the material. The cycling rate of iron ions has been reported to limit the Fenton reaction rate. It is, therefore, vital to enhance the cycling rate of iron ions. A composite three-dimensional electrode (FOC) was synthesized using glucose, ammonium carbonate, and FeCl 3 through a combination of hydrothermal synthesis and calcination. The electrode's conditions were subsequently optimized for the applicable pH range and the concentration of methylene blue (MB) that could be effectively degraded. At an FOC-800 dosage of 0.5 g/L, a supply voltage of 4 V, and an initial pH of 4, a degradation rate of 98 % for 10 mg/L MB was achieved, with a 67.5 % reduction in total organic carbon using 2 g/L Na 2 S 2 O 3 as the electrolyte. The material also demonstrated efficacy in degrading both chemical and pharmaceutical wastewater. A comparative analysis using Na 2 SO 4 as the electrolyte confirmed that Na 2 S 2 O 3 effectively promoted the cycling of iron ions, enhancing the degradation performance of FOC and expanding its effective pH range. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was employed to monitor the concentration changes of S 2 O 3 2- and SO 4 2- during the reaction, while LC-MS was used to identify the degradation products of MB, and ECOSAR was utilized to assess the toxicity of these products. A Pd Schiff base complex was immobilized onto the surface of magnetic Fe 3 O 4 as a novel, green, and recyclable heterogeneous nanocatalyst and fully characterized by TEM, XRD, FT-IR, BET, SEM, ICP-OES, EDS, TGA, and VSM techniques. The Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @DAA@Schiff base-Pd(0) catalyst exhibits outstanding performance in catalyzing Buchwald-Hartwig and Stille coupling reactions, resulting in high yields of the corresponding products. This catalyst offers numerous benefits, such as a straightforward testing procedure, environmentally friendly reaction conditions, absence of hazardous solvents, quick reaction time, low catalyst usage, and the ability to be reused. The catalyst's environmental friendliness was assessed through a range of techniques including vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), energy dispersive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). This study underscores the potential of nanocomposites of magnetite (Fe 3 O 4) with amine functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) for applications in magnetic hyperthermia therapy, by optimizing the amine-functionalized MWCNT concentration to maintain favorable interactions with Fe 3 O 4 , avoiding excessive aggregation, and maximizing the hyperthermia performance. The magnetic property analysis revealed that the presence of amine-functionalized MWCNTs influenced the saturation magnetization (M S) of the nanocomposites, surprisingly, the FC1 (composite with 1 % amine-functionalized MWCNT) and FC3 (composite with 3 % amine-functionalized MWCNT) nanocomposites exhibited higher saturation magnetization (M S) compared to bare Fe 3 O 4 , attributed to the enhanced interaction between Fe 3 O 4 and the amine-functionalized MWCNTs, which facilitated the cationic influx and alignment of surface spins. However, at higher concentrations of functionalized MWCNTs (FC7 and FC10), a reduction in M S was observed, possibly due to aggregation effects which can also be inferred from their cubic anisotropy value. Among the nanocomposites, FC3 exhibited the highest specific absorption rate (SAR), correlating with its enhanced M S , while FC10 showed the lowest SAR, consistent with its reduced M S. The SAR values were found to increase with the applied magnetic field amplitude, with FC3 surpassing bare Fe 3 O 4 at higher field amplitudes, likely due to the predominant effects of Néel relaxation mechanisms.
