The development and diffusion of digital technologies are transforming industries, including the agrifood sector, which is experiencing significant changes driven by the "Digital Agriculture" era. This paper explores the intersection of digital transformation and sustainability in agribusiness, examining how digital technologies impact organizational economics, social and environmental issues. The new competitive environment created by digital transformation necessitates strategic revitalization, collaborative engagements, and the cultivation of new skills and competencies. Despite the potential of digitalization to foster efficiency and sustainability, its relationship with sustainability initiatives requires further investigation. We discuss the cognitive processes influencing digital technology adoption and their implications for sustainability, proposing a 2 × 2 matrix framework to categorize different levels of technology integration and sustainability outcomes. Contributions to this discussion are positioned within this matrix, providing comprehensive insights into their practical and theoretical implications. The paper concludes with a research agenda for future studies, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary approaches to deepen the understanding of the nexus between digital transformation and sustainability in agribusiness. The digital factory represents an indispensable method for factory layout planning. Based on digital factory methods numerous tools for layout planning have been developed in the last years, which enable the space organization of the assets of a factory based on 2D/3D data. Such tools have a difficulty to show the whole layout plan and to interact and to handle with the factory assets in intuitive and realistic manner. This paper presents and discuss a VR-based approach for efficient factory planning. This approach enables fully immersion in the virtual environment represented factory and an intuitive interaction with factory equipment. Hence, the layout planning can be assessed in real time regarding e.g. efficiency of surface use, martial flow, ergonomics. The presented approach has been designed based on the many years experience of the author as digital factory engineer in the industry and based on intensive discussion with industry experts. This paper presents two case studies achieved within industrial cooperation projects between the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe and German manufacturers for special appliances. The aim of the case studies is development and implementation of training applications for the use and the handling of special vehicle using the virtual reality technology. Based on the experiences gathered during these cooperation projects the challenges that face the VR introduction in the industrial area is outlined in this paper. The virtual reality technology (VR) has undergone a rapid development in recent years. The VR software and hardware have become powerful and affordable. Therefore, the VR counts to the key technologies for enabling the digital transformation. However, this significant technology has not achieved the expected breakthrough in the industrial engineering area yet. The potential of the VR to digitize and to improve the engineering process of industrial companies especially for SMEs is still undiscovered. This has led to a poor implementation and use of the VR applications with an engineering scope compared with other business sectors e.g. gaming, entertainments. This paper presents and discusses two case studies achieved within cooperation project between the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe and German manufacturers for fire trucks and systems for firefighting and disaster protection. The aim of the case studies is the implementation of VR applications and their evaluation in terms of using in the business processes of the involved industrial partner. The paper presents the results of the cognitive modeling of the COMPUTER SCIENCE terminological system in the form of a thesaurus. The thesaurus comprises over 3000 units, which are drawn from explanatory monolingual and bilingual dictionaries of computer science terms representing the basic phenomena and processes in the professional context. Methodologically, the analysis is based on the frame model and focuses on semantic relations specific to the sphere of computer science in terms of ontological and epistemological features. The thesaurus facilitates the detailed description and effective arrangement of the terminological system characterized by a complicated hierarchical structure, and thus plays a crucial role in forming and developing professional competencies. The development of more-evolved urban vulnerability assessment (UVA) models has become an increasingly important issue for both policy agendas and academia. Several requirements have already been set for this goal; they should be pursued simultaneously. However, methods with such integration are yet to be developed. The present paper addresses this integration via a discursive process in which interactions between decision makers and the method contribute to the selection of a model fulfilling these requirements. That model yields a UVA built upon both qualitative information and quantitative data from indicators selected for the neighbourhood, city, province, region and country political-administrative scales. The characteristics demanded are encoded both into the UVA assessment model and in the optimization and control modules governing the process. While the optimization produces compromise solutions, the control module supervises the process, provides dynamic control and enables the interactions. Interactions are informed with knowledge derived from the cognitive approach entailed by the method and afford a better understanding of the process dynamics. We conclude that the goodness of fit and time dynamics objectives are aligned. Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common cause of physical disabilities during childhood. Therapeutic interventions mainly focus on impairment reduction to address motor-based difficulties. In contrast, Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) is a cognitive approach, providing intervention at the level of activity and participation.Aims: This study aims to determine whether the CO-OP approach improves motor skills and achievement in motor-based occupational performance goals in children with CP.Methods and Procedures: In this mixed design research (i.e., a multiple baseline single case experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design), five children with CP participated in 12 CO-OP intervention sessions. Repeated measures of motor skills for the multiple baseline single case experimental design were taken using the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOTMP); pre- and post-measures of parent/child perception of performance and satisfaction were identified using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM); level of achievement was identified using Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS).Outcomes and Results: According to the BOTMP results, all children were able to engage in the CO-OP intervention to improve motor performance. Significant differences after treatment were found in both performance and performance satisfaction ratings using the COPM as rated by parents and children. The GAS results showed progress in achievement levels for all children; all goals were achieved or exceeded.Conclusions and Implications: CO-OP intervention can be helpful in improving motor skills and achieving self-identified, motor-based goals in children with CP. One of the pressing topics of the marketing analysis, the problem of studying and modeling of consumer character, is examined. An approach to the problems is proposed, based on the modern concepts of cognitive psychology and new methods of personality psycho-diagnostics. The basic premises of the approach are formulated. The logical-linguistic formalism for modeling and identification of consumer psychological profile is developed. A description of an applied method of identification is given. Abstract: Despite the advances made regarding both the characterization and classification of the disorder (e.g., DSM-IV), the diagnosis of the attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children remains very difficult. The principal aim of this paper is to present the interest of a integrative approach in the understanding, diagnosis and identification of difficulties in ADHD children. More particularly, it aims to underline the interest of the cognitive approach in the understanding of this disorder in the day-to-day life functioning, as well as the benefits of this approach when a specific remediation is planned. Abstract: Thermal imaging is used extensively in the detection of infrared spectrum. This principle has found great and effective use in the screening of potential SARS patients. This paper investigates the application of several novel brain-inspired softcomputing techniques in the study of the correlation of superficial thermal images against the true internal body temperature. Given some backgrounds that the existing infrared systems used at various boarder checkpoints have high false-negative rate, the novel fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) employed in the back-end of the system have a role as a thermal analysis tool with high degree of accuracy. To achieve the automation and improve the accuracy in the feature extraction process of the infrared images, some forms of image processing technique based on the novel FNNs are also proposed in this paper. Extensive experimentations are undertaken to examine such intelligent medical decision support tool. Benchmarking was carried out on the novel FNN architectures which include pseudo outer-product fuzzy neural network (POPFNN), evolving fuzzy neural network (EFuNN), fuzzy adaptive learning control network (Falcon), generic self-organizing fuzzy neural network (GenSoFNN), and fuzzy cerebellar model articulation controller (FCMAC), and their results are promising. The performance of the GenSoFNN network is the most appealing among others. In addition, the experiments are conducted on real-life data taken from the Emergency Department (A&E), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (the designated SARS center in Singapore) to confirm the validity of such design in the real time. Background: Self-regulated learning is an active learning cognitive approach which helps individuals to be aware of their own ability and environment and control their own learning.Aim: This study examined the therapeutic effects of self-regulated learning on reducing challenging behaviors and enhancing school-related function in children with autism spectrum disorders.Methods: Forty children (aged 6-12) were randomized into a 12-week Self-Regulated Learning or Activity-Based intervention control group. Three outcome measures, assessing the behavior and school-related function of the children in both groups, were administered before and after the intervention and at one-month follow-up. The results between the two groups were also compared.Results: The Self-Regulated Learning group showed significantly better results in reducing concerning behaviors and enhancing the school-related function than the activity-based group post-intervention and at one-month follow-up.Conclusions: The Self-Regulated Learning intervention was more effective compared to the Activity-Based intervention with particular benefits for on-going learning and improvements. This paper puts forward the position that the cognitivist approach adopted in research on decision making in team sports leads to a disconnection from the actual environment of play. The argument is structured as a narrative review of 60 articles that were analyzed to identify the most recent concepts related to the following topics or combinations thereof: tactics and action in the play; decision making and associated cognitive mechanisms and skills; and the teaching–learning–training process. The results of the review led us to characterize decision making in the team sports context as being (a) "prereflected," (b) based on evaluation, (c) frugal, and (d) "generated," as opposed to being a process of choosing from alternatives. In addition to showing clear adjustments to the environment of play, the four characteristics imply that teaching, learning, and training to play should also be designed according to the restrictions imposed by the context and the actual lived experience of the play. We conclude that cognition should not be considered solely responsible for decisions, and thus both theoretical and pedagogical models of player development should take the ecological perspective of decision making into account. As a result, the methodologies employed to develop players from an early age could be elaborated on by taking into account the interaction between cognitive skills and the possibilities emerging in the play.
