Sandwich Composite panels have been proved to be efficient materials for energy dissipation. A new type of sandwich composite panels using 3D-mats with interconnected channels sandwiched between Kevlar® layers have been manufactured in this research work. The core of the panels have been filled with high-performance 600 nm silica based Shear Thickening Fluids (STFs) dispersed in polyethylene glycol of molecular weight 200 g/mol (PEG-200) to study its effect in improving the energy dissipation of the material. The panels are subjected to ballistic impact using a 9 mm diameter projectile. It was found that the STF-incorporated sandwich composite panels could absorb 96.3% of the incident energy which accounts to 67.4% more energy absorbed and also a 61.26% increase in absorbed energy per unit increase in weight in comparison to the hollow sandwich composite panels. Abstract: Treatment options of Class II malocclusion include extraoral headgears, functional appliances, and conventional full-fixed appliances with intermaxillary elastics or combined with tooth extractions. Various appliances have been used to distalize the maxillary molars. However, there are disadvantages, including laboratory time, patient compliance, and expenses. Despite the use of different components in the design of the appliance to prevent the anchorage loss, flaring of the anterior teeth and increased overjet usually take place to a significant extent. This case report describes the use of the miniscrew implant–supported sliding jigs distalization system (MISSJDS) for nonextraction treatment of a patient with a Class II malocclusion to distalize the maxillary molars in an invisible, noncompliant, and efficient way, without mesial movement and proclination of the anterior teeth. A new type of sandwich composite panel (SCP) is fabricated, with a novel combination of a core of fused-double-3D-mat composites made of E-glass sandwiched between layers of aramid -fibre mats for the efficient dissipation of energy when subjected to a ballistic impact. Novel methods of the SCP fabrication and indigenous techniques of the embodiment of the dilatant fluids within its cores have been discussed. The fabricated composites were subjected to high-velocity ballistic impact using 9 mm bullets of average velocity-400 m/s. It is observed that due to the incorporation of the dilatant fluid within the SCP, it could absorb 20.24% of the energy incident on it. The amount of energy absorbed is 43.96% more than that absorbed by the hollow composite and it recorded a percentage increase in absorbed energy per unit increase in mass by 22.43%. Objective: To describe the role of duplex ultrasound imaging (DUI) in prompt diagnosis of pseudoaneurysm (PSA) of a branch of the segmental renal artery (b-SRA) and to evaluate outcomes of DUI directed percutaneous embolization.Materials and Methods: Forty-five patients were referred to us for the management of intractable renal hematuria. A total of 20 cases (44.44%) had developed PSA after nephrolithotomy, 12 cases (12.66%) had developed PSA after guided renal biopsies, 6 cases (13.33%) had developed PSA following road side trauma, and 2 cases (4.44%) of the tuberous sclerosis complex had developed PSA. Three cases (6.66%) of arteriovenous and 2 cases (4.44%) of arteriocalyceal fistulae had been excluded from the study. DUI-guided direct percutaneous management (DPM) was done as a 4-step process. First is the identification of PSA sac in the neck and offending b-SRA. Second is the puncture of PSA sac with 18 g puncture needle under DUI. Subsequently, manual injection of temporary embolic agent was done followed by N-butyl cyanoacrylate glue. Thrombosis of the PSA sac was confirmed by absent flow on DUI.Results: Forty cases of b-SRA were managed successfully in a single session and followed up by clinical findings, DUI, and computed tomography angiography. There was no need for the second session of DPM, transarterial embolization, or surgery in this cohort. Twelve cases (30%) had developed a mild fever and were managed conservatively. All 40 cases had no evidence of renal hematuria after follow-up of 3 months.Conclusion: DUI-guided DPM is a safe, feasible, cost-effective, and nephron-sparing promising alternative to TAE or surgery for management of PSA of b-SRA. This study presents some soft armour panel design strategies using shear thickening fluid (STF) reinforced Kevlar® fabric. The effect of size of silica nano and sub-micron particles on the ballistic performance of soft body armour panels against the small arms ammunition (velocity ~ 430 ± 15 m/s) has been analysed. Two STFs, namely STF-500 and STF-100, were prepared by dispersing silica particles of 500 nm and 100 nm diameter, respectively, in polyethylene glycol (PEG) 200. Kevlar® fabrics were impregnated with both the STFs. Multiple layers (20–24) of fabrics were stitched to prepare 13 soft armour panels which were evaluated for back face signature (BFS) against 9 × 19 mm lead core bullet. Soft armour panels comprising of fabrics impregnated with STF-500 yielded lower BFS than the respective panels comprising of fabrics impregnated with STF-100. This study also revealed that STF impregnation of Kevlar® fabrics can reduce the BFS by 2.5 mm–2.8 mm while keeping the areal density of the panel same (5 kg/m2). The areal density of soft armour panel can be reduced further by 10% (4.5 kg/m2), while keeping the BFS comparable to or lower than that of an STF impregnated homogenous panel, by judiciously placing the STF impregnated fabrics at the rear side while neat fabrics are placed at the strike face of the panel.
