To determine risk factors for portal venous system thrombosis (PVST) after partial splenic artery embolisation (PSAE) in cirrhotic patients with hypersplenism. Between March 2014 and February 2022, 428 cirrhotic patients with hypersplenism underwent partial splenic artery embolisation and from these patients 208 were enrolled and 220 were excluded. Medical records of enrolled patients were collected. Computed tomography (CT) images were reviewed by two blinded, independent radiologists. Statistical analyses were performed by using SPSS. Progressive PVST was observed in 18.75% (39/208) of cirrhotic patients after PSAE. No significant differences in peripheral blood counts, liver function biomarkers, and renal function were observed between the patients with progressive PVST and the patients without progressive PVST. The imaging data showed significant differences in PVST, the diameters of the portal, splenic, and superior mesenteric veins between the progressive PVST group and non-progressive PVST group. Univariate and multivariate analysis demonstrated portal vein thrombosis, spleen infarction percentage, and the diameter of the splenic vein were independent risk factors for progressive PVST. Seventeen of 173 (9.83%) patients showed new PVST; the growth of PVST was observed in 62.86% (22/35) of the patients with pre-existing PVST. Spleen infarction percentage and the diameter of the splenic vein were independent risk factors for new PVST after PSAE. Charge-changing cross-sections (CCCSs) of 11−16C, 13−17N and 15−18O on a carbon target have been determined at energies around 300 MeV/nucleon. A nucleon separation energy-dependent correction factor has been introduced to the Glauber model calculation for extracting the nuclear charge radii from the experimental CCCSs. The charge radii of 11C, 13,16N and 15O thus were determined for the first time. With the new radii, we studied the experimental mirror-difference charge radii (Δ R ch mirror) of 11B-11C, 13C-13N, 15N-15O, 17N-17Ne pairs for the first time. We find that the Δ R ch mirror values of 13C-13N and 15N-15O pairs follow well the empirical relation to the isospin asymmetry predicted by the ab i n i t i o calculations, while Δ R ch mirror of 11B-11C and 17N-17Ne pairs deviate from such relation by more than two standard deviations. • Gentamicin (40 mg/kg) exposure induced minimal or mild kidney injury in beagle dogs for consecutive 12-days. • A total of 117 dys-regulated miRNAs were identified and visualized in a heatmap among the treatment day 0, 3, 6, and 12 using RNA sequencing. • Six top up-regulated and down-regulated microRNAs were screened and validated using RT-qPCR. • miR-15b and -15b-3p were superior to urinary kidney injury molecule-1using ROC curve assays. • Levels of miR-15b and -30a in urine were significantly correlated with those in kidney tissue. MicroRNAs serve as potential biomarkers in various pathological models, and are stable and detectable in biofluids. We investigated the urinary microRNA expression profile in a gentamicin-induced acute kidney injury canine model using RNA sequencing. A total of 234 differentially expressed microRNAs were screened after 12 consecutive days of gentamicin administration (P < 0.05). Six candidate microRNAs (miR-15b, -15b-3p, -16, -30a, -30a-3p, and -30c-2-3p) were selected according to a set criterion, and validated by real-time quantitative PCR. The diagnostic values of these six candidate microRNAs were better than the traditional serum biomarkers (all P < 0.05). Further, using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, we found that miR-15b and -15b-3p were superior to urinary kidney injury molecule-1 (both P < 0.05). Moreover, miR-15b and -30a levels in the urine samples significantly correlated with their respective levels in the kidney tissue samples (r=0.512 and 0.505, respectively, both P < 0.05). We present the charge-changing cross sections (CCCS) of 11−15C, 13−17N, and 15,17−18O at around 300 MeV/nucleon on a carbon target, which extends to p -shell isotopes with N < Z for the first time. The Glauber model, which considers only the proton distribution of projectile nuclei, underestimates the cross sections by more than 10%. We show that this discrepancy can be resolved by considering the contribution from the charged-particle evaporation process (CPEP) following projectile neutron removal. Using nucleon densities from the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, we investigate the isospin-dependent CPEP contribution to the CCCS for a wide range of neutron-to-proton separation energy asymmetry. Our calculations, which include the CPEP contribution, agree well with existing systematic data and reveal an "evaporation peak" at the isospin symmetric region where the neutron-to-proton separation energy is close to zero. Abstract Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) represents an alternative to immunosuppression as a means of reducing rejection after thoracic organ transplantation. The mechanism by which ECP exerts its protective effects, until now, has remained elusive. Infusion of ECP-treated splenic lymphocytes (PUVA-SP) can induce CD4+CD25highFoxp3+ regulatory T cells. However, the regulatory effect of PUVA-SP on B cells remains poorly understood. In the present study, we measured IL-10 secretion from CD19+ B cells of peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Our results demonstrate that infusion of PUVA-SP (PUVA-BSP from BALB/c or PUVA-CSP from C57BL/6 mice), in the absence of an immunosuppressant, significantly promotes skin allograft survival. This effect was associated with upregulation of circulating regulatory B cells exhibiting preferential IL-10 secretion and a shift of cytokine profile from helper T cell type 1 to helper T cell type 2. Our results suggest that effective treatments involving infusion of PUVA-SP is likely related not only to the modulation of T cell and regulatory T cell functions but also to the function of B cell and regulatory B cells. Abstract The phase transformation mechanism leading to the formation of intragranular α precipitates in Ti−16Nb (at.%) alloy was investigated by TEM. Spinodal decomposition of the β matrix acts as the uniformly distributed heterogeneous nucleation sites for such α precipitates upon annealing at 550 °C. An α-like atomic arrangement with severe lattice distortion forms in the bcc lattice at the early stage of phase transformation and it transforms to the perfect hcp atomic structure gradually in a displacive mode. Highlights • The intragranular α forms in the cold-drawn Ti−16Nb alloy upon annealing at 550 °C. • Such α precipitates form in a displacive mode assisted by spinodal decomposition. • A shear model for lattice deformation of β-to-α phase transformation is proposed. Abstract The martensite structures and the mechanical properties of the solution treated Ti-16Nb-(0, 0.3, 0.7, 1)Ag (at.%) alloys were systematically investigated. For all the Ti-Nb-Ag alloys, different martensite variants are in { 1 1 1 } type I and 2 1 1 type II twin relation, while the { 1 1 1 } type I twins are the dominant substructures inside a martensite variant. Substructures of the (0 1 1) compound twins are also observed in the Ti-16Nb-1 A g alloy. With increasing the Ag content, the ultimate tensile strength is improved significantly, while the elastic modulus decreases slightly. As a result, the Ti-16Nb-1 A g alloy has a good combination of high strength (840 Mpa) and low elastic modulus.
