PATIENT experience ,SUPPORT vector machines ,OBSESSIVE-compulsive disorder ,FRACTAL dimensions ,FUNCTIONAL connectivity - Abstract
[Display omitted] • EEG features including AP, RP, PLV, WPLI, AE, and HFD were compared between OCD and CON groups. • Most of the significant differences were observed at the high frequency bands in Beta I-IV, and Gamma bands. • The highest classification accuracies were achieved using the support vector machine implied on PLV features. • Functional connectivity-based features have a good potential to be used as biomarker of OCD. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a potentially serious mental disorder that affects 1–2% of the world population. The OCD patients experience uncontrollable, and recurring thoughts (obsessions), and may feel a need to repeat behaviors (compulsions). In EEG studies, many different features have been investigated regarding their OCD diagnosis capability. However, there is no OCD study evaluating different EEG features with the same conditions and data. To address the problem, we employed six popular resting-state EEG features, including absolute and relative power, Phase locking value (PLV), Weighted phase lag index (WPLI), approximate entropy, and Higuchi's fractal dimension, to find out which feature can better discriminate OCDs from healthy controls (CON) under the same conditions and data. All the generated features were normalized using mean and standard deviation of values, calculated from 233 Iranian healthy people. After that, the most informative EEG features, discriminating 39 OCD individuals from age, handedness, and gender-matched, 39 CON were selected and entered into the classification process. In addition, an independent EEG dataset including 23 OCDs and 23 CONs was also used to investigate the consistency of the results. As expected, most of the significant differences were observed at the high frequency bands in Beta I-IV, and Gamma bands. The highest classification accuracies were achieved using the support vector machine applied on the PLV features of the main (94.8 %) and independent dataset (100 %) These findings indicate that functional connectivity-based (PLV) features have a good potential to be used as a biomarker of OCD. - Abstract
Introduction pregnancy is a unique health experience which is influenced by various factors, particularly culture and social context. Aim of study to explore women's perception regarding major challenges of adaptation with first pregnancy based on culture and social context. Design a qualitative content analysis was used for data gathering and analysis. Data were collected through unstructured in-depth interviews. Setting the study was conducted in public health clinics in Hamadan city, an urban area in southwest of Iran from July to December 2016. Participants nineteen healthy primigravidas were recruited using a purposive sampling method and interviewed in the third trimester of pregnancy. Findings the two main categories extracted: imposing the motherhood role on oneself and negative feelings toward pregnancy. The feeling of being in limbo during pregnancy suggests that the everyday experiences of the participants were filled with challenges and short-term tensions, fears, and limitations of pregnancy overwhelmed the participants with negative feelings. As a result, they experienced doubt due to their inexperience in the acceptance of the responsibility of pregnancy and motherhood. Key conclusions and implications for practice one of the challenges of adaptation to pregnancy is the experience of negative feelings toward physiological changes and sense of uncertainty toward accepting motherhood responsibilities. Thus, the provision of suitable interventions during the prenatal period to reduce negative feelings and improve women's self-sufficiency in adaptation to pregnancy seems necessary. BURN patients , *DISABILITIES , *SEMI-structured interviews , *CONTENT analysis , *QUALITATIVE research - Abstract
One of the most important duties of the members of the treatment team is to pay attention to the mental, psychological, and social aspects of burn patients. One of the concerns of these patients during their stay in the hospital is the fear of rejection. The objective of this research is to examine the concept of 'fear of rejection' among patients hospitalized with burn injuries. This study was conducted between January 2023 and March 2024 in Hamadan, Iran, employing a qualitative content-analysis approach. The study enrolled sixteen patients, and data were collected through deep and semi-structured interviews. The data were then analyzed using the conventional content-analysis approach developed by Graneheim and Lundman. A group of 16 patients, comprising an equal number of men and women, were interviewed for this study. Based on the data obtained from these interviews, negative brainstorming, frustration, fear of permanent physical disabilities, occupational and financial challenges were identified as categories; visualization of a foggy future and inability in performance of roles emerged as the two themes. Based on the results of this study, it can be said that the fear of social rejection, characterized by an inability to perform roles and the visualization of a foggy future, significantly affects the psychological and physical health of burn patients, potentially delaying their recovery. Assisting these patients in reaching their fullest potential to contribute to society post-discharge, and fostering optimism for a promising future, constitute a paramount aspect of daily care and ongoing support. • Fear of rejection is a major problem for burn patients. • Changes in appearance and disfigurement cause fear of rejection by family and society. • This study examines the concept of fear of rejection in burn patients through qualitative content analysis.
