Lymph node ratio (LNR) is an important prognostic factor of survival in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This study aimed to validate three LNR-based nomograms using an international cohort. Consecutive PDAC patients who underwent upfront pancreatoduodenectomy from six centers (Europe/USA) were collected (2000–2017). Patients with metastases, R2 resection, missing LNR data, and who died within 90 postoperative days were excluded. The updated Amsterdam nomogram, the nomogram by Pu et al., and the nomogram by Li et al. were selected. For the validation, calibration, discrimination capacity, and clinical utility were assessed. After exclusion of 176 patients, 1′113 patients were included. Median overall survival (OS) of the cohort was 23 months (95% CI: 21–25). For the three nomograms, Kaplan-Meier curves showed significant OS diminution with increasing scores (p < 0.01). All nomograms showed good calibration (non-significant Hosmer-Lemeshow tests). For the Amsterdam nomogram, area under the ROC curve (AUROC) for 3-year OS was 0.64 and 0.67 for 5-year OS. Sensitivity and specificity for 3-year OS prediction were 65% and 59%. Regarding the nomogram by Pu et al., AUROC for 3- and 5-year OS were 0.66 and 0.70. Sensitivity and specificity for 3-year OS prediction were 68% and 53%. For the Li nomogram, AUROC for 3- and 5-year OS were 0.67 and 0.71, while sensitivity and specificity for 3-year OS prediction were 63% and 60%. Introduction: This review assesses the presentation, management, and outcome of delayed postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) and suggests a novel algorithm as possible standard of care.Methods: An electronic search of Medline and Embase databases from January 1990 to February 2010 was undertaken. A random-effect meta-analysis for success rate and mortality of laparotomy vs. interventional radiology after delayed PPH was performed.Results: Fifteen studies comprising of 248 patients with delayed PPH were included. Its incidence was of 3.3%. A sentinel bleed heralding a delayed PPH was observed in 45% of cases. Pancreatic leaks or intraabdominal abscesses were found in 62%. Interventional radiology was attempted in 41%, and laparotomy was undertaken in 49%. On meta-analysis comparing laparotomy vs. interventional radiology, no significant difference could be found in terms of complete hemostasis (76% vs. 80%; P = 0.35). A statistically significant difference favored interventional radiology vs. laparotomy in term of mortality (22% vs. 47%; P = 0.02).Conclusions: Proper management of postoperative complications, such as pancreatic leak and intraabdominal abscess, minimizes the risk of delayed PPH. Sentinel bleeding needs to be thoroughly investigated. If a pseudoaneurysm is detected, it has to be treated by interventional angiography, in order to prevent a further delayed PPH. Early angiography and embolization or stenting is safe and should be the procedure of choice. Postoperative enteral nutrition is a widely accepted route of application for nutrition formulas due to a low complication rate, a good acceptance by patients. and a favorable cost-effectiveness. We report three cases of bezoar ileus after early postoperative enteral nutrition, using a fine needle jejunostomy (FNJ) in two cases and a nasoduodenal tube in one case. A male patient who underwent gastric resection for a gastrointestinal stroma tumor and was nourished through an fine needle jejunostomy developed an acute abdomen on the seventh postoperative day. Surgical exploration revealed a mechanical ileus caused by denaturated nutrition formula distal to the catheter tip. The second case, a female patient, underwent gastric resection for a gastric cancer and on the fourth postoperative day developed acute onset of abdominal pain. Intraoperative findings were the same as described in the first case. The third case, a male patient with necrotizing cholecystitis, underwent open cholecystectomy. Postoperative enteral feeding was performed using a nasoduodenal tube. He developed a small bowel obstruction on the 17th postoperative day that was caused by an intraluminal bezoar. In conclusion, bezoar formation represents an underestimated complication of postoperative enteral feeding. Acute onset of abdominal pain and the development of small bowel obstruction are the main clinical symptoms of this severe complication. The pathogenesis of bezoar formation remains unclear. Background Major oncologic surgery is associated with a high incidence of venous thromboembolic events (VTE), including deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). However, the incidence and risk factors for symptomatic VTE during curative treatment for patients with esophageal cancer are poorly documented. Methods Data were collected from 30 European centers from 2000 to 2010. The incidence of in-hospital VTE was assessed in 2,944 patients with esophageal cancer having surgery with curative intent, and 50 clinically relevant parameters were assessed as potential risk factors for VTE. Patients received low molecular weight heparin prophylaxis during hospital stay and for 4 weeks after surgery. Results Eighty-four patients (2.9%) developed a symptomatic VTE; all of them had a DVT and 44 were also diagnosed with a PE. In the VTE group there were 19 postoperative deaths recorded, 5 of which (26.3%) were directly caused by PE at postoperative days 7, 10, 21, 45, and 48 despite VTE prophylaxis. In-hospital postoperative mortality was significantly higher in VTE patients (23% versus 7%, p < 0.001) and mean hospital stay was also longer in this group (33 ± 24 versus 25 ± 21 days, p < 0.001). Multivariable analysis showed that high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class ( p = 0.008), pneumopathy ( p = 0.002), or an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) ( p = 0.015) were significantly associated with VTE. Conclusions Patients with ASA class III or IV and those who present a postoperative pneumopathy or ARDS seem to be at higher risk for VTE. Summary Background The Nutritional Risk Score (NRS) is a validated tool to identify patients who should benefit of nutritional interventions. Nutritional screening however has not yet been widely adopted by surgeons. Furthermore, the question about reliability of nutritional assessment performed by surgeons is still unanswered. Methods Data was obtained from a recent randomised trial including 146 patients with an NRS ≥3 as assessed by the surgeons. Additional detailed nutritional assessment was performed for all patients by nutritional specialists and entered prospectively in a dedicated database. In this retrospective, surgeons' scoring of NRS and its components was compared to the assessment by nutritionists (considered as gold standard). Results Prospective NRS scores by surgeons and nutritionists were available for 141 patients (97%). Surgeons calculated a NRS of 7, 6, 5, 4 and 3 in 2, 8, 38, 21 and 72 patients respectively. Nutritionists calculated a NRS of 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 in 8, 26, 47, 57, 3 patients, respectively. Surgeons' assessment was entirely correct in 56 patients (40%), while at least the final score was consistent in 63 patients (45%). Surgeons overrated the NRS in 21% of patients and underestimated the score in 29%. Evaluation of the nutritional status showed most of the discrepancies (54%). Conclusion Surgeon's assessment of nutritional status is modest at best. Summary: Background & aim: Immune-modulating nutritional formula containing arginine, omega-3 fatty acids and nucleotides has been demonstrated to decrease complications and length of stay in surgical patients. This study aims at assessing the impact of immune-modulating formula on hospital costs in gastrointestinal cancer surgical patients in Switzerland. Method: Based on a previously published meta-analysis, the relative risks of overall and infectious complications with immune-modulating versus standard nutrition formula were computed. Swiss hospital costs of patients undergoing gastrointestinal cancer surgery were retrieved. A method was developed to compute the patients' severity level, not taking into account the complications from the surgery. Incremental costs of complications were computed for both treatment groups, and sensitivity analyses were carried out. Results: Relative risk of complications with pre-, peri- and post-operative use of immune-modulating formula was 0.69 (95%CI 0.58–0.83), 0.62 (95%CI 0.53–0.73) and 0.73 (95%CI 0.35–0.96) respectively. The estimated average contribution of complications to the cost of stay was CHF 14,949 (€10,901) per patient (95%CI 10,712–19,186), independently of case's severity. Based on this cost, immune-modulating nutritional support decreased costs of hospital stay by CHF 1638 to CHF 2488 per patient (€1195–€1814). Net hospital savings were present for baseline complications rates as low as 5%. Conclusion: Immune-modulating nutritional solution is a cost-saving intervention in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Summary: Background & aims: Protocols for enhanced recovery provide comprehensive and evidence-based guidelines for best perioperative care. Protocol implementation may reduce complication rates and enhance functional recovery and, as a result of this, also reduce length-of-stay in hospital. There is no comprehensive framework available for pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods: An international working group constructed within the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) Society constructed a comprehensive and evidence-based framework for best perioperative care for pancreaticoduodenectomy patients. Data were retrieved from standard databases and personal archives. Evidence and recommendations were classified according to the GRADE system and reached through consensus in the group. The quality of evidence was rated “high”, “moderate”, “low” or “very low”. Recommendations were graded as “strong” or “weak”. Results: Comprehensive guidelines are presented. Available evidence is summarised and recommendations given for 27 care items. The quality of evidence varies substantially and further research is needed for many issues to improve the strength of evidence and grade of recommendations. Conclusions: The present evidence-based guidelines provide the necessary platform upon which to base a unified protocol for perioperative care for pancreaticoduodenectomy. A unified protocol allows for comparison between centres and across national borders. It facilitates multi-institutional prospective cohort registries and adequately powered randomised trials. Background: Anastomotic leak remains a common and potentially deleterious complication after esophagectomy. Preoperative embolization of the left gastric artery and splenic artery (PAE) has been suggested to lower anastomotic leak rates. We present the results of our 5-year experience with this technique. Methods: All patients undergoing PAE before esophagectomy since introduction of this technique in 2004 were compared in a 1:2 matched-pair analysis with patients without PAE. Matching criteria were type of anastomosis, neoadjuvant treatment, comorbidity, and age. Data were derived from a retrospective chart review from 2000 to 2006 that was perpetuated as a prospective database up to date. Outcome measures were anastomotic leak, overall complications, and hospital stay. Results: Between 2000 and 2009, 102 patients underwent esophagectomy for cancer in our institution with an overall leak rate of 19% and a mortality of 8%. All 19 patients having PAE since 2004 were successfully matched 1:2 to 38 control patients without PAE; both groups were similar regarding demographics and operation characteristics. Two PAE (11%) and 8 control patients (21%) had an anastomotic leak, but the difference was statistically not significant (p = 0.469). Overall and major complication rates for PAE and control group were 89% versus 79% (p = 0.469) and 37% versus 34% (p = 1.000), respectively. Median intensive care unit and hospital stay were 3 versus 3 days (p = 1.000) and 22 versus 17 days (p = 0.321), respectively. Conclusions: In our experience, PAE has no significant impact on complications and anastomotic leak in particular after esophagectomy. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Objectives: Postoperative bleeding represents a life-threatening complication after pancreatic surgery. Recent developments in interventional radiology have challenged the role of surgery in bleeding control. This study aimed to assess the management of major haemorrhagic complications after pancreatic surgery at a tertiary referral centre. Methods: Between August 1998 and June 2009, 18 patients with major bleeding after pancreatic surgery were admitted to the University Hospital of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. We retrospectively analysed their medical charts, focusing on diagnosis, therapy and outcome. Results: Major arterial bleeding occurred after a median postoperative interval of 21.5 days (range: 9-259 days). Seventeen patients demonstrated various symptoms, such as repeated upper gastrointestinal bleeding or haemorrhagic shock. Diagnosis was usually made by contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT). Leakage of the pancreaticojejunostomy caused the formation of a pseudoaneurysm in 78% of patients. Haemostasis was achieved in 10 patients by interventional radiology. Two patients died of massive re-bleeding. Six patients underwent primary emergency surgery, which five did not survive. Conclusions: Delayed bleeding after pancreatic surgery is suspicious for a pseudoaneurysm. Contrast-enhanced CT followed by early angiography provides accurate diagnosis and treatment. Background: Malnutrition in gastrointestinal (GI) surgery is associated with increased morbidity. Therefore, careful screening remains crucial to identify patients at risk for malnutrition and consequently postoperative complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of 3 established score systems to identify patients at risk of developing postoperative complications in GI surgery and to assess the correlation among the score systems. Methods: We evaluated prospectively 200 patients admitted for elective GI surgery using (1) nutrition risk index, (2) nutrition risk score, and (3) bioelectrical impedance analysis. Complications were assessed using a standardized complication classification. The findings of the score systems were correlated with the incidence and severity of complications. Parametric and nonparametric correlation analysis was performed among the different score systems. Results: All 3 score systems correlated significantly with the incidence and severity of postoperative complications and the duration of hospital stay. Using multiple regression analysis, only nutrition risk score and malignancy remained prognostic factors for the development of complications with odds ratios of 4.2 (P = .024) and 5.6 (P < .001), respectively. The correlation between nutrition risk score and nutrition risk index was only moderate (Pearson coefficient = 0.54). Bioelectrical impedance analysis displayed only weak to trivial correlation to the nutrition risk index (0.32) and nutrition risk score (0.19), respectively. Conclusion: The nutrition risk score, nutrition risk index, and bioimpedance analysis correlate with the incidence and severity of perioperative complications in GI surgery. The nutrition risk score was the best score in predicting patients who will develop complications in this study population. Summary: Background & aims: Malnutrition is a recognized risk factor for perioperative morbidity, but there is currently no standardized definition of malnutrition. The Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 score was recently proposed to identify patients at nutritional risk who may benefit from nutritional support therapy, and has been officially adopted by the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. The aim of this study was to assess the value of the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 score in predicting the incidence and severity of postoperative complications in gastrointestinal surgery. Methods: We prospectively evaluated 608 patients admitted for elective gastrointestinal surgery. Nutritional risk was defined by the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 score and correlated to the incidence and severity of postoperative complications. Complications were classified using an established surgical complication classification. Results: The overall incidence of nutritional risk was 14%. We observed a significantly higher complication rate of 40% (35 out of 87) in patients at nutritional risk, compared to 15% (81 out of 521) in patients with a normal score (p <0.001). The incidence of severe complications was significantly higher in patients at nutritional risk (54% versus 15%; p <0.001). The odds ratio to develop a complication was 2.8 in patients at risk (p =0.001), and 3.0 in patients with malignant disease (p <0.001). The median length of stay in nutritional risk patients was significantly longer (10 versus 4 days, p <0.001). Conclusion: The prevalence of nutritional risk patients in gastrointestinal surgery is high. We showed that nutritional risk screening using the NRS 2002 strongly predicts the incidence and severity of complications. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background/Aims: To study the effect of short-term cholestasis on glycogen metabolism.Methods: Rats were bile duct ligated (BDL) for 4 or 8 days and compared to sham-operated control rats pair-fed to BDL (pair-fed CON) or fed ad libitum (ad libitum-fed CON).Results: Four days after surgery, the hepatic glycogen content was 21.6±7.6 mg/g in BDL, 21.2±8.5 mg/g in pair-fed CON and 72.9±7.7 mg/g in ad libitum-fed CON, respectively. Eight days after surgery, the hepatic glycogen content was reduced in BDL as compared to pair-fed (31.2±8.9 vs. 59.1±5.4 mg/g) or ad libitum-fed CON (58.3±4.7 mg/g). Similar findings were obtained with the glycogen content expressed per ml hepatocytes or per liver. Histological analysis of BDL livers showed that most hepatocytes were affected. As compared to CON, activities and mRNA levels of glycogen synthase and phosphorylase were reduced in BDL, whereas plasma glucagon and endotoxin levels were increased at both time points. In contrast to liver, skeletal muscle glycogen metabolism remained unaffected.Conclusions: While reduced intake of food explains the decrease in the hepatic glycogen stores in BDL and pair-fed CON 4 days after surgery, reduced glycogen synthesis, possibly related to endotoxinemia, is the most probable cause of the decrease in the hepatic glycogen content in BDL 8 days after surgery. Due to the demand for sustainable constructions, composite structures have become more important and lead to slim and economic solutions with a low structural self-weight. EN 1994-1-1 distinguishes between four different cross-section classes for the determination of moment resistance. For the plastic moment resistance, it is assumed, that each cross-sectional fibre can plastify without any limit on the strain. For standard composite beams with sagging moments and a high plastic neutral axis, plastic resistance and strain-limited resistance give similar results. For sections with a large compression zone height x pl and limited rotation capacity, concrete failure in the compression zone can occur before the plastic moment resistance M pl,Rd , is reached. The strain limit design becomes critical. This paper points out the impact of the concrete part on the design of composite beams. A parametric study comparing plastic and strain limited moment resistance of a considerable variety of cross-sections has been carried out to develop the beam design methods considering compression zone height for the next generation of Eurocodes. Instrumental lesions, spontaneous rupture, and trauma cause most esophageal perforations. Transmural fungal infection is extremely rare, although Candida may be detected in as many as 25% of normal esophagus. In this report we present a case of fatal esophageal perforation due to transmural Candida infection in a 76-year-old woman. The patient died from septic shock and multiorgan failure, despite esophageal resection and systemic antifungal therapy. Pathogenetic aspects and treatment strategies are discussed. Background As the long-term survival of pancreatic head malignancies remains dismal, efforts have been made for a better patient selection and a tailored treatment. Tumour size could also be used for patient stratification. Methods One hundred and fourteen patients underwent a pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic adenocarcinoma, peri-ampullary and biliary cancer stratified according to: ≤20 mm, 21-34 mm, 35-45 mm and >45 mm tumour size. Results Patients with tumour sizes of ≤20 mm had a N1 rate of 41% and a R1/2 rate of 7%. The median survival was 3.4 years. N1 and R1/2 rates increased to 84% and 31% for tumour sizes of 21-34 mm ( P = 0.0002 for N, P = 0.02 for R). The median survival decreased to 1.6 years ( P = 0.0003). A further increase in tumour size of 35-45 mm revealed a further increase of N1 and R1/2 rates of 93% ( P < 0.0001) and 33%, respectively. The median survival was 1.2 years ( P = 0.004). Tumour sizes >45 mm were related to a further decreased median survival of 1.1 years ( P = 0.2), whereas N1 and R1/2 rates were 87% and 20%, respectively. Discussion Tumour size is an important feature of pancreatic head malignancies. A tumour diameter of 20 mm seems to be the cut-off above which an increased rate of incomplete resections and metastatic lymph nodes must be encountered and the median survival is reduced. Resection margin status and lymph node (LN) involvement are known prognostic factors for patients who undergo pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This study aimed to compare overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) by resection margin status in patients with PDAC and LN involvement. A retrospective international multicentric study was performed including four Western centers. Multivariable Cox analysis was performed to identify prognostic factors of OS and DFS. Median OS and DFS were calculated using Kaplan–Meier curves and compared using log-rank tests. A cohort of 814 PDAC patients with pancreatoduodenectomy were analyzed. A total of 651 patients had LN involvement (80%). On multivariable analysis R1 resection was not an independent factor of worse OS and DFS in patients with LN involvement (HR 1.1, p = 0.565; HR 1.2, p = 0.174). Only tumor size, grade, and adjuvant chemotherapy were associated with OS and DFS. Median OS and DFS were similar between patients with R0 and R1 resections (23 vs. 20 months, p = 0.196; 15 vs. 14 months, p = 0.080). Resection status was not identified as predictor of OS or DFS in PDAC patients with LN involvement. Extensive surgery to achieve R0 resection in such patients might not influence the disease course. In web opening regions, a significant share of the global shear force is redistributed from the perforated web of the steel beam to the reinforced concrete (RC) slab. This redistribution leads to vertical forces in the shear connectors close to both edges of the opening and influences the internal forces in the steel beam and the RC slab over a length of approximately three times the opening length a 0. The global shear failure in the web opening region is affected by the rather brittle behavior of the concrete and is either characterized by a diagonal shear cracking failure of the RC slab, or a local bending failure at the opening edges, or vertical connector failure (concrete break-out) at the ends of the opening. This paper is intended to clarify the structural behavior of web opening regions and proposes easy-to-use models that make it possible to analyze the local internal forces of each partial beam in a mechanically consistent manner. Based on these models, a novel design procedure is presented, that allows efficient design and dimensioning of web openings as well as prediction of shear resistance and failure mode. There is still a lack of good evidence regarding the optimal perioperative nutritional management for patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). The aim of this international survey was to assess the current practice among pancreatic surgeons. A web survey of 30 questions was sent to the members of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA) and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA). All members were invited by email to answer the online survey. A reminder was sent after 4 weeks. In total 420 out of 2500 surgeons (17%) answered the survey. Almost half of the surgeons (44%) did not organize a preoperative nutritional consultation for their patients. Seventy-seven percent of the participants did not have specific nutritional thresholds before the operation. A majority (66%) routinely used biological parameters to detect or follow malnutrition. Regarding intraoperative details, 69% of the respondents routinely leaved a nasogastric tube at the end of PD for gastric drainage. Sixty-six percent of the participants reported a postoperative nutritional follow-up consultation during hospitalization, and 58% of them had established local standardized protocols for postoperative nutritional support. Management of perioperative nutrition in patients undergoing PD was very disparate internationally. Abstract Introduction Preoperative malnutrition is a demonstrated risk factor for adverse outcomes after esophagectomy. Optimizing patients' nutritional and immunological status may have beneficial impact. Objective The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of preoperative oral immunonutrition (IN) on postoperative outcomes after oncological esophagectomy. Methods Retrospective single-centre study of consecutive patients operated for esophageal cancer between 2011-2015. IN was introduced in our institution in 2013 and was given 7 days preoperatively. IN patients were compared to a control group in terms of postoperative complications, mortality and length of stay. Results Thirty-eight IN patients were compared to 38 control patients, with comparable baseline characteristics. Seven (19%) and 11 (31%) patients were malnourished preoperatively in IN and control groups respectively (P = 0.209). Overall complication rate was 74% in the IN group and 68% in the control group (P = 0.801). Major complications occurred in 13 patients (34%) in the IN versus 8 patients (21%) in the control group (P = 0.192) and there was no significant difference in terms of mortality (respectively 11 vs. 3%, P = 0.358). Median length of stay was significantly higher in the IN group (24 days, IQR 14-53) than in controls (16 days, IQR 12-23, P = 0.034). The role of neoadjuvant and definitive radiotherapy combined or not to chemotherapy in the therapeutic approach to pancreatic cancer has not been yet elucidated. There is some evidence in favour of neoadjuvant local and/or systemic approaches that enable surgical resection in patients initially considered to be “borderline resectable”. Nevertheless, most of these studies have been conducted using schedules of radiotherapy (treatment volumes, total doses, dose/fraction) that are nowadays considered not efficient enough and/or too toxic. Recently, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has been proposed as a new therapeutic option for pancreatic cancer, both in the neoadjuvant and in the definitive setting. The aim of this study is to review the radiobiological and clinical evidences supporting hypofractionation in pancreatic cancer. Background Pancreaticoduodenectomies ( PD) still have a substantial mortality rate. Recently, different scores have been published to predict the mortality risk pre-operatively after PD. This retrospective study was designed to perform an external assessment of an Early Mortality Risk Score ( EMRS). Methods From 2000 to 2012, all PD cases performed at our institution were documented. Only patients treated for pancreatic head adenocarcinomas were included. Survival time and EMRS (based on age, tumour size, tumour differentiation and comorbidities) were calculated for every patient. Relative risks ( RR) of early death 9 and 12 months after PD were then calculated. Results Of 270 PD for various aetiologies, 120 PD for adenocarcinomas were included. The median follow-up was 37 months, and the overall median survival was 19 months. EMRS of 4 showed a mortality RR of 5.1 at 9 months ( P = 0.048) and of 4.5 at 12 months ( P = 0.020). Conclusions EMRS of 4 is a predictor of tumour-related mortality at 9 and 12 months after PD for adenocarcinoma. The EMRS was externally assessed in our patient cohort and can be implemented in clinical practice. Clinical implications of this score still need to be studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: In contrast to its close homolog CDK4, the cell cycle kinase CDK6 is expressed at high levels in lymphoid malignancies. In a model for p185 BCR-ABL+ B-acute lymphoid leukemia, we show that CDK6 is part of a transcription complex that induces the expression of the tumor suppressor p16INK4a and the pro-angiogenic factor VEGF-A. This function is independent of CDK6’s kinase activity. High CDK6 expression thus suppresses proliferation by upregulating p16INK4a, providing an internal safeguard. However, in the absence of p16INK4a, CDK6 can exert its full tumor-promoting function by enhancing proliferation and stimulating angiogenesis. The finding that CDK6 connects cell-cycle progression to angiogenesis confirms CDK6’s central role in hematopoietic malignancies and could underlie the selection pressure to upregulate CDK6 and silence p16INK4a.
