Cryptogenic stroke represents a type of ischemic stroke with an unknown origin, presenting a significant challenge in both stroke management and prevention. According to the Trial of Org 10,172 in Acute Stroke Treatment criteria, a stroke is categorized as being caused by large artery atherosclerosis only when there is >50% luminal narrowing of the ipsilateral internal carotid artery. However, nonstenosing carotid artery plaques can be an underlying cause of ischemic stroke. Indeed, emerging evidence documents that some features of plaque vulnerability may act as an independent risk factor, regardless of the degree of stenosis, in precipitating cerebrovascular events. This review, drawing from an array of imaging-based studies, explores the predictive values of carotid imaging modalities in the detection of nonstenosing carotid plaque (<50%), that could be the cause of a cerebrovascular event when some features of vulnerability are present. Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed were searched for articles on cryptogenic stroke and those reporting the association between cryptogenic stroke and imaging features of carotid plaque vulnerability. Despite extensive diagnostic evaluations, the etiology of a considerable proportion of strokes remains undetermined, contributing to the recurrence rate and persistent morbidity in affected individuals. Advances in imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography scans, and ultrasound examination, facilitate more accurate detection of nonstenosing carotid artery plaque and allow better stratification of stroke risk, leading to a more tailored treatment strategy. Early detection of nonstenosing carotid plaque with features of vulnerability through carotid imaging techniques impacts the clinical management of cryptogenic stroke, resulting in refined stroke subtype classification and improved patient management. Additional research is required to validate these findings and recommend the integration of these state-of-the-art imaging methodologies into standard diagnostic protocols to improve stroke management and prevention. The popularity of the profunda femoris artery perforator (PAP) flap is increasing; however, knowledge concerning the standardization of radiological findings and their clinical implications is limited. We evaluated the radiological architecture of posterior thigh perforators using Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) to identify landmarks to facilitate flap dissection. A retrospective study was conducted on 35 patients who underwent unilateral breast reconstruction with a PAP flap. The preoperative CTA scans were analyzed, and the perforator characteristics were evaluated. The perforators were mapped using a Cartesian coordinate system. Data were normalized by anatomical landmarks and overlapped. Perioperative and postoperative results were analyzed. Radiological and intraoperative were compared. Two CTA scans were excluded; 66 thighs were examined. The mean perforator number was 3.2. The mean diameter of chosen perforators was 2.7 mm (DS ± 0.6 mm) at the origin, 2.2 mm (DS ± 0.4 mm) at the adductor space midpoint, and 1.7 mm (DS ± 0.3 mm) at the deep fascia. The mean adipose tissue thickness was 3.35 cm (DS ± 0.94) at the deep fascia and 3.59 cm (DS ± 1.19) at the adductor space midpoint. Intraoperatively, the perforator was located 3.22 cm (DS ± 0.87) from the posterior border of the gracilis muscle and 8.98 cm (DS ± 1.44) from the inferior gluteal crease. A radiological area located 9.33 cm (DS ± 4.81) from the y-axis and 7.48 cm (DS ± 1.88) from the x-axis was identified. Carotid artery atherosclerosis is highly prevalent in the general population and is a well-established risk factor for acute ischemic stroke. Although the morphological characteristics of vulnerable plaques are well recognized, there is a lack of consensus in reporting and interpreting carotid plaque features. The aim of this paper is to establish a consistent and comprehensive approach for imaging and reporting carotid plaque by introducing the Plaque–RADS (Reporting and Data System) score. A panel of experts recognized the necessity to develop a classification system for carotid plaque and its defining characteristics. Using a multimodality analysis approach, the Plaque-RADS categories were established through consensus, drawing on existing published reports. The authors present a universal classification that is applicable to both researchers and clinicians. The Plaque-RADS score offers a morphological assessment in addition to the prevailing quantitative parameter of "stenosis." The Plaque-RADS score spans from grade 1 (indicating complete absence of plaque) to grade 4 (representing complicated plaque). Accompanying visual examples are included to facilitate a clear understanding of the Plaque-RADS categories. Plaque-RADS is a standardized and reliable system of reporting carotid plaque composition and morphology via different imaging modalities, such as ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. This scoring system has the potential to help in the precise identification of patients who may benefit from exclusive medical intervention and those who require alternative treatments, thereby enhancing patient care. Rationale and Objective: Takotsubo syndrome (TS) is a transient and often misdiagnosed form of left ventricular dysfunction. Acute myocarditis (AM) is usually included in TS differential diagnosis. The aim of this study is to assess the role of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging coupled with tissue-tracking technique (CMR-TT) and parametric mappings analysis in discriminating between TS and AM.Materials and Methods: We retrospectively enrolled three groups: patients with TS (n = 12), patients with AM (n = 14), and 10 healthy controls. All the patients had a comprehensive CMR examination, including the assessment of global and segmental longitudinal strain, circumferential strain, radial strain (RS), and parametric mapping.Results: The analysis of variance was used to compare the different groups. In TS patients, basal RS, global T1 mapping, global T2 mapping, mid T2 mapping, apical T1 and T2 mapping were statistically significantly different compared with the other groups. MANCOVA analysis confirmed that the association between myocardial strain data and parametric mapping was independent on age and sex. Apical T1 and T2 mapping proved to have a good performance in differentiating TS from AM (area under the curves of 0.908 and 0.879, respectively).Conclusion: Basal RS and apical tissue mapping analysis are the most advanced CMR-derived parameters in making a differential diagnosis between TS and AM. • Mis-centering and over-scanning on chest CT are frequent in patients with COVID-19. • Patients with arms by side are more likely to be mis-centered and over-scanned. • Mis-centering and over-scanning are associated with higher radiation doses. Optimization of CT scan practices can help achieve and maintain optimal radiation protection. The aim was to assess centering, scan length, and positioning of patients undergoing chest CT for suspected or known COVID-19 pneumonia and to investigate their effect on associated radiation doses. With respective approvals from institutional review boards, we compiled CT imaging and radiation dose data from four hospitals belonging to four countries (Brazil, Iran, Italy, and USA) on 400 adult patients who underwent chest CT for suspected or known COVID-19 pneumonia between April 2020 and August 2020. We recorded patient demographics and volume CT dose index (CTDI vol) and dose length product (DLP). From thin-section CT images of each patient, we estimated the scan length and recorded the first and last vertebral bodies at the scan start and end locations. Patient mis-centering and arm position were recorded. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA). The extent and frequency of patient mis-centering did not differ across the four CT facilities (>0.09). The frequency of patients scanned with arms by their side (11–40% relative to those with arms up) had greater mis-centering and higher CTDI vol and DLP at 2/4 facilities (p = 0.027–0.05). Despite lack of variations in effective diameters (p = 0.14), there were significantly variations in scan lengths, CTDI vol and DLP across the four facilities (p < 0.001). Venous (VTEs) and arterial thromboembolic events (ATEs) are causes of morbidity, disability, mortality, and increase in treatment costs in cancer patients. The risk associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has not yet been clarified. The primary objective of this systematic review was to evaluate the incidence of VTEs and ATEs in patients treated with ICIs as single agents or in combination with other treatments. Data from retrospective and prospective studies were selected from PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and The Cochrane Library from inception up to May up to 21st May 2020. All studies had to be in English and use human study participants. The studies were eligible if they provided a number (or rate) of VTEs and ATEs and the size of the population included. The PRISMA guidelines were followed. The data on the incidence of VTEs and ATEs were extracted for each arm, analyzed using random-effects models, and reported as weighted measures. A total of 20,273 patients from 68 studies were included (median follow-up ranged from a few months up to three years). Overall, there were 390 VTEs and 59 ATEs, with incidence rates of 2.7% (95%CI 1.8%–4%) and 1.1% (95%CI 0.5%–2.1%), respectively. The rate of pulmonary embolism was 1.6% (95%CI 0.7%–3.2%) and deep venous thrombosis was 2.7% (95%CI 1.4%–5.4%). In studies where ICIs were administered with chemotherapy, rates of VTEs were similar to ICI alone arms (2.8% vs 2.5%). The rate of stroke and myocardial infarction were 1.1% (95%CI 0.65%–1.45%) and 0.7% (95%CI 0.15%–1.15%), respectively. In randomized trials, compared with non-ICIs containing arms (e.g. chemotherapy), the relative risk (RR) of VTEs due to ICIs was similar (RR 1.08, 95%CI 0.6–1.9; P =.79). Thromboembolic events associated with ICIs are relatively rare in cancer patients with an advanced stage of the disease. Stroke represents a massive public health problem. Carotid atherosclerosis plays a fundamental part in the occurence of ischaemic stroke. European and US guidelines for prevention of stroke in patients with carotid plaques are based on quantification of the percentage reduction in luminal diameter due to the atherosclerotic process to select the best therapeutic approach. However, better strategies for prevention of stroke are needed because some subtypes of carotid plaques (eg, vulnerable plaques) can predict the occurrence of stroke independent of the degree of stenosis. Advances in imaging techniques have enabled routine characterisation and detection of the features of carotid plaque vulnerability. Intraplaque haemorrhage is accepted by neurologists and radiologists as one of the features of vulnerable plaques, but other characteristics-eg, plaque volume, neovascularisation, and inflammation-are promising as biomarkers of carotid plaque vulnerability. The advent of Deep Learning (DL) is poised to dramatically change the delivery of healthcare in the near future. Not only has DL profoundly affected the healthcare industry it has also influenced global businesses. Within a span of very few years, advances such as self-driving cars, robots performing jobs that are hazardous to human, and chat bots talking with human operators have proved that DL has already made large impact on our lives. The open source nature of DL and decreasing prices of computer hardware will further propel such changes. In healthcare, the potential is immense due to the need to automate the processes and evolve error free paradigms. The sheer quantum of DL publications in healthcare has surpassed other domains growing at a very fast pace, particular in radiology. It is therefore imperative for the radiologists to learn about DL and how it differs from other approaches of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The next generation of radiology will see a significant role of DL and will likely serve as the base for augmented radiology (AR). Better clinical judgement by AR will help in improving the quality of life and help in life saving decisions, while lowering healthcare costs. A comprehensive review of DL as well as its implications upon the healthcare is presented in this review. We had analysed 150 articles of DL in healthcare domain from PubMed, Google Scholar, and IEEE EXPLORE focused in medical imagery only. Purpose: To report clinical effectiveness, toxicity profile, and prognostic factors of combined 100 μm ± 25 and 200 μm ± 50 epirubicin-loaded polyethylene glycol (PEG) microsphere drug-eluting embolic transcatheter arterial chemoembolization protocol in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.Materials and Methods: In this prospective, single-center, single-arm study with 18 months of follow-up, 36 consecutive patients (mean age 69.9 y ± 10.8; 26 men, 10 women; 54 naïve lesions) were treated. Embolization was initiated with 100 μm ± 25 microspheres, and if stasis (10 heart beats) was not achieved, 200 μm ± 50 microspheres were administered. Each syringe (2 mL) of PEG microsphere was loaded with 50 mg of epirubicin. Results were evaluated using Modified Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors with multidetector computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging at 1, 3-6, 9-12, and 15-18 months. Toxicity profile was assessed by laboratory testing before and after the procedure. Complications were recorded. Postembolization syndrome (PES) was defined as onset of fever/nausea/pain after the procedure. Patient/lesion characteristics and treatment results were correlated with predicted outcome using regression analysis. Child-Pugh score was A in 86.1% of patients (31/36) and B in 13.9% (5/36).Results: In 10 of 21 lesions, < 2 cm in diameter (47.5%) stasis was achieved with 100 μm ± 25 microspheres only, whereas all other lesions required adjunctive treatment with 200 μm ± 50 microspheres. Reported adverse events were grade 1 acute liver bile duct injury (3/39 cases, 7.7%) and PES (grade 2; 3/39 cases, 7.7%). Complete response (CR) at 1, 3-6, 9-12, and 15-18 months was 61.1%, 65.5%, 63.63%, and 62.5%. Objective response (CR + partial response) at 1, 3-6, 9-12, and 15-18 months was 83.3%, 65.85%, 63.63%, and 62.5%. No single factor (laboratory testing, etiology, patient status, hepatic status, tumor characteristics, administration protocol) predicted outcomes except for albumin level at baseline for CR (P < .05, odds ratio = 1.09).Conclusions: The combined microsphere sizing strategy was technically feasible and yielded promising results in terms of effectiveness and toxicity. Aims: Carotid intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) is considered a marker of plaque vulnerability. Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are recognized on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with cerebrovascular disease. Any connection between carotid IPH and CMBs remains scantly investigated. This study aimed to determine whether the histologic evidence of carotid IPH is related to CMBs. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 101 consecutive patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy with symptomatic (ischemic stroke, TIA, and amaurosis fugax) or asymptomatic ipsilateral carotid artery disease. The presence and the extent (%) of IPH were identified on carotid plaques stained with Movat Pentachrome. CMBs were localized on T2*-weighted gradient-recalled echo or susceptibility-weighted imaging sequence on brain MRI before surgery. The degree of carotid stenosis was measured by neck CTA. Results: IPH was identified in 57 (56.4%) patients, and CMBs were found in 24 (23.7%) patients. CMBs were more commonly observed in patients with carotid IPH compared to those without [19 (33.3%) vs 5 (11.4%); P =0.010]. The carotid IPH extent was significantly higher in patients with CMBs than in those without [9.0 % (2.8-27.1%) vs 0.9% (0.0-13.9%); P =0.004] and was associated with the number of CMBs (P =0.004). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated an independent association between carotid IPH extent and the presence of CMBs [OR 1.051 (95% CI 1.012-1.090); P =0.009]. Additionally, patients with CMBs had a lower degree of ipsilateral carotid stenosis compared to those without [40% (35-65%) vs 70% (50-80%); P =0.049]. Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to assess the difference in the distribution of white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) on left and right sides of the brain hemispheres of subjects with mild to severe carotid artery stenosis.Material and Methods: Eighty consecutive patients (mean age 71 ± 6 years, males 66) with carotid artery stenosis were prospectively recruited. FLAIR-WMH lesion volume was performed using a semiautomated segmentation technique (Jim, Xinapse System, Leicester, UK). The Wilcoxon test was applied to verify the differences in the volume of WMHs between the right and left hemispheres.Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory for the volume of the lesions (median volume of WMHs of the left side = 889.5 mm3; median volume of WMHs on the right side = 580.5 mm3; P = .0416); no statistically significant difference was found on the other territories by taking into considerations the lesions. By analyzing the degree of stenosis, we found a higher degree of stenosis of the left side (67.9%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 64.8%-70.9%) compared with the right side (65.7%; 95% CI, 62.4%-68.9%), but the Mann-Whitney test did not show a statistically significant difference (P = .3235).Conclusions: Results of our study suggest that there is a difference in the distribution of WMHs in the brain hemispheres according to the left/right side on the MCA territories and for the periventricular white matter in subjects with mild to severe carotid artery stenosis. Rationale and Objectives: To determine the impact of second-opinion assessment on cancer staging and patient management in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.Methods and Materials: This retrospective study was approved by our institutional review board with a waiver of informed consent. Second-opinion reports between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2013, alongside outside reports for 65 consecutive cases of biopsy-proven pancreatic adenocarcinomas, were presented in random order to two experienced abdominal surgeons who independently reviewed them blinded to the origin of the report, images of the examinations, and patient identifier. Each surgeon filled in a questionnaire for each report recommending cancer staging and patient management. Recommended patient management and staging were evaluated against reference standards (actual patient management at 6 months following second-opinion assessment, and pathology or other clinical and imaging reference standards at 6 months or longer, respectively) using Cohen kappa.Results: Cancer staging differed in 13% (9 of 65) of cases for surgeon 1 and in 18.4% (12 of 65) for surgeon 2. Patient management changed in 38.4% (25 of 65) of cases for surgeon 1 and in 20% (13 of 65) for surgeon 2. When compared to the pathologic staging gold standard, second opinion was correct in 85.7% (six of seven) of the time for both surgeons. Recommended patient management from second-opinion reports showed good agreement with the reference standard (weighted k = 0.6467 [0.4014-0.892] and weighted k = 0.6262 [0.3954-0.857] for surgeon 2).Conclusion: Second-opinion review by subspecialized oncologic radiologists can impact patient care, specifically in terms of management decision. Background: The purpose of this study was to assess if there is a correlation between the carotid computed tomography (CT) Hounsfield unit (HU)-based plaque attenuation values measured using dual-energy CT (DECT) scanner and brain leukoaraiosis (LA).Methods: Fifty consecutive patients (34 males, 16 females; mean age, 69 years; age range, 46-84 years) who underwent carotid CT and brain magnetic resonance imaging were included in the study. CT examinations were performed with a DECT scanner, and LA lesion volume quantification was performed using a semiautomated segmentation technique.Results: We found an inverse statistically significant correlation between the HU-based carotid artery plaque attenuation and the LA lesion volume. Because of the presence of calcified plaques, a second model was calculated at low kiloelectron volt levels from 66 to 100 and 100 kV by taking into consideration the fatty and mixed plaques, and this further led to the associations between HU-based attenuation and LA volume in brain and vascular territories.Conclusions: The results of our study suggest that the associations between HU attenuation of the carotid artery plaques (with the exclusion of calcified plaques) and the volume of LA are emphasized at low keV energy levels. Purpose: To compare image quality and diagnostic performance of cone-beam computed tomography (CT) and multidetector CT in the detection of hypervascular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with cirrhosis undergoing transarterial chemoembolization with drug-eluting embolic agents.Materials and Methods: Fifty-five consecutive patients referred for chemoembolization of hypervascular HCC were prospectively enrolled. Imaging included preprocedural multidetector CT within 1 month before planned treatment, intraprocedural cone-beam CT, and 1-month follow-up multidetector CT. Analysis of image quality was performed with calculations of lesion-to-liver contrast-to-noise ratio (LLCNR) and lesion-to-liver signal-to-noise-ratio (LLSNR). One-month follow-up multidetector CT was considered the reference standard for the detection of HCC nodules.Results: Median LLCNR values were 3.94 (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.06-5.05) for preprocedural multidetector CT and 6.90 (95% CI, 5.17-7.77) for intraprocedural cone-beam CT (P < .0001). Median LLSNR values were 11.53 (95% CI, 9.51-12.44) for preprocedural multidetector CT and 9.36 (95% CI, 8.12-10.39) for intraprocedural cone-beam CT (P < .0104). Preprocedural multidetector CT detected 115 hypervascular nodules with typical HCC behavior, and cone-beam CT detected 15 additional hypervascular nodules that were also visible on 1-month follow-up multidetector CT.Conclusions: Cone-beam CT has a significantly higher diagnostic performance compared with preprocedural multidetector CT in the detection of HCCs and can influence management of patients with cirrhosis by identifying particularly aggressive tumors. Purpose: We aimed to assess if there is a difference of distribution and volume of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in the brain according to the Circle of Willis (CoW) configuration in patients with carotid artery pathology.Material and Methods: One-hundred consecutive patients (79 males, 21 females; mean age 70 years; age range 46-84 years) that underwent brain MRI before carotid endarterectomy (CEA) were included. FLAIR-WMH lesion volume was performed using a semi-automated segmentation technique and the status of the circle of Willis was assessed by two neuroradiologists in consensus.Results: We found a prevalence of 55% of variants in the CoW configuration; 22 cases had one variants (40%); 25 cases had two variants (45.45%) and 8 cases showed 3 variants (14.55%). The configuration that was associated with the biggest WMH volume and number of lesions was the A1+PcoA+PcoA. The PcoA variants were the most prevalent and there was no statistically significant difference in number of lesions and WMH for each vascular territory assessed and the same results were found for AcoA and A1 variants.Conclusion: Results of our study suggest that the more common CoW variants are not associated with the presence of an increased WMH or number of lesions whereas uncommon configurations, in particular when 2 or more segment are missing increase the WMH volume and number of lesions. Purpose: The purpose of this work was to explore the association between carotid plaque volume (total and the subcomponents) and cerebral microbleeds (CMBs).Materials and Methods: Seventy-two consecutive (male 53; median age 64) patients were retrospectively analyzed. Carotid arteries were studied by using a 16-detector-row computed tomography scanner whereas brain was explored with a 1.5 Tesla system. CMBs were studied using a T2*-weighted gradient-recalled echo sequence. CMBs were classified as from absent (grade 1) to severe (grade 4). Component types of the carotid plaque were defined according to the following Hounsfield unit (HU) ranges: lipid less than 60 HU; fibrous tissue from 60 to 130 HU; calcification greater than 130 HU, and plaque volumes of each component were calculated. Each carotid artery was analyzed by 2 observers.Results: The prevalence of CMBs was 35.3%. A statistically significant difference was observed between symptomatic (40%) and asymptomatic (11%) patients (P value = .001; OR = 6.07). Linear regression analysis demonstrated an association between the number of CMBs and the symptoms (P = .0018). Receiver operating characteristics curve analysis found an association between the carotid plaque subcomponents and CMBs (Az = .608, .621, and .615 for calcified, lipid, and mixed components, respectively), and Mann-Whitney test confirmed this association in particular for the lipid components (P value = .0267).Conclusions: Results of this study confirm the association between CMBs and symptoms and that there is an increased number of CMBs in symptomatic patients. Purpose Fatty liver disease (FLD) is one of the most common diseases in liver. Early detection can improve the prognosis considerably. Using ultrasound for FLD detection is highly desirable due to its non-radiation nature, low cost and easy use. However, the results can be slow and ambiguous due to manual detection. The lack of computer trained systems leads to low image quality and inefficient disease classification. Thus, the current study proposes novel, accurate and reliable detection system for the FLD using computer-based training system. Materials and methods One hundred twenty-four ultrasound sample images were selected retrospectively from a database of 62 patients consisting of normal and cancerous. The proposed training system was generated offline parameters using training liver image database. The classifier applied transformation parameters to an online system in order to facilitate real-time detection during the ultrasound scan. The system utilized six sets of features (a total of 128 features), namely Haralick, basic geometric, Fourier transform, discrete cosine transform, Gupta transform and Gabor transform. These features were extracted for both offline training and online testing. Levenberg–Marquardt back propagation network (BPN) classifier was used to classify the liver disease into normal and abnormal categories. Results Random partitioning approach was adapted to evaluate the classifier performance and compute its accuracy. Utilizing all the six sets of 128 features, the computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system achieved classification accuracy of 97.58%. Furthermore, the four performance metrics consisting of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) realized 98.08%, 97.22%, 96.23%, and 98.59%, respectively. Conclusion The proposed system was successfully able to detect and classify the FLD. Furthermore, the proposed system was benchmarked against previous methods. The comparison established an advanced set of features in the Levenberg–Marquardt back propagation network reports a significant improvement compared to the existing techniques. Enhancement of ultrasound (US) images is required for proper visual inspection and further pre-processing since US images are generally corrupted with speckle. In this paper, a new approach based on non-local means (NLM) method is proposed to remove the speckle noise in the US images. Since the interpolated final Cartesian image produced from uncompressed ultrasound data contaminated with fully developed speckle can be represented by a Gamma distribution, a Gamma model is incorporated in the proposed denoising procedure. In addition, the scale and shape parameters of the Gamma distribution are estimated using the maximum likelihood (ML) method. Bias due to speckle noise is expressed using these parameters and is removed from the NLM filtered output. The experiments on phantom images and real 2D ultrasound datasets show that the proposed method outperforms other related well-accepted methods, both in terms of objective and subjective evaluations. In the last years, technical innovations in the field of CT angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) have allowed accurate and highly detailed evaluation of peripheral vascular pathologies. This has dramatically changed the diagnostic approach in treatment planning of peripheral arterial obstructive disease and also enabling early identification of treatment failure or treatment-related complications after surgical or endovascular procedures. Although Doppler Ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality during follow-up after treatment, its role is currently diminishing in importance mostly because of the proliferation of high-end CT and MR scanners capable of fast, reproducible, and highly reliable vascular imaging. The aim of this study is to review the various surgical and endovascular procedures for peripheral arterial obstructive disease and to provide CTA and MRA samples of common and uncommon complications related to treatment. Background: The purpose was to determine if brain damage in Wilson's disease (WD) is different in comorbid bipolar spectrum disorders (BDs), comorbid major depressive disorder (MDD) or without any mood disorders. Methods: An observational study was conducted on consecutive patients from a center for WD care. The study sample was divided by psychiatric assessment into WD without any mood disorders, WD with BDs and WD with MDD negative at Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ). Results: Thirty-eight WD patients were recruited (53.2% females): 21 without mood disorders (55.2%), 9 with comorbid BDs (26.7%) and 8 with MDD without MDQ+ (21.1%). The BDs showed a higher frequency of brain damage, reaching statistically significant differences in the basal ganglia (P<.001), in the overall brain (P<.003) and at the limit in the white matter (P<.05). Conclusions: In WD, comorbidity with BDs is associated with earlier evidence of brain damage, especially in the basal ganglia. The results confirm the importance of screening and early diagnosis of BDs in WD. Future follow-up studies on large samples are required to confirm if detection of BDs may be an early marker of brain damage and if a good therapeutic response in BDs may improve the prognosis of WD.
