Abstract: Chaperones are critical for the folding and regulation of a wide array of cellular proteins. Heat Shock Proteins (Hsps) are the most representative group of chaperones. Hsp90 represents up to 1–2% of soluble protein. Although the Hsp90 role is being studied in neurodegenerative diseases, its role in neuronal differentiation remains mostly unknown. Since neuronal polarity mechanisms depend on local stability and degradation, we asked whether Hsp90 could be a regulator of axonal polarity and growth. Thus, we studied the role of Hsp90 activity in a well established model of cultured hippocampal neurons using an Hsp90 specific inhibitor, 17-AAG. Our present data shows that Hsp90 inhibition at different developmental stages disturbs neuronal polarity formation or axonal elongation. Hsp90 inhibition during the first 3h in culture promotes multiple axon morphology, while this inhibition after 3h slows down axonal elongation. Hsp90 inhibition was accompanied by decreased Akt and GSK3 expression, as well as, a reduced Akt activity. In parallel, we detected an alteration of kinesin-1 subcellular distribution. Moreover, these effects were seconded by changes in Hsp70/Hsc70 subcellular localization that seem to compensate the lack of Hsp90 activity. In conclusion, our data strongly suggests that Hsp90 activity is necessary to control the expression, activity or location of specific kinases and motor proteins during the axon specification and axon elongation processes. Even more, our data demonstrate the existence of a “time-window” for axon specification in this model of cultured neurons after which the inhibition of Hsp90 only affects axonal elongation mechanisms. We analyze the dynamics of the mental well-being of the Chilean population in response to the progress of the vaccination strategy implemented by the government. This study aims at investigating the possibility of using Google Trends as an instrument for tracking mental well-being of the Chilean population. We use the volume of searches for keywords in Google Trends (GT) related to Anguish, Anxiety, Depression, and Stress as a proxy for population well-being. Using event study methods, we analyze social attention reactions to news about the vaccination program. We implement a Difference-in-Difference-in-Differences estimation to estimate changes in population welfare by socio-economic status induced by the progress of inoculation. We show that social attention to mental health problems is sensitive to news about the vaccination program. Moreover, and most importantly, we find that mental well-being responds positively to the percentage of inoculated people. This phenomenon appear to be permanent and affected by socio-economic status, with the wealthier population experiencing greater improvements than the less wealthy. During the COVID-19 vaccination program in Chile, social attention to mental health problems appears to be sensitive to news about the vaccination program. There is also strong evidence of socio-economic status–induced heterogeneity in population responses to program implementation. The above phenomena appears to be permanent and cannot be attributed to either socio-economic segregation in access to vaccines or to the highly stratified schedule of the vaccination program. Abstract: Fifteen STRs are studied to determine the allele frequencies’ distribution and to evaluate the homogeneity of Nayarit populations. This study allows the identification of forensic efficiency parameters to be used in forensic genetics and to explore the genetic similarities between Nayarit and the neighboring countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Honduras, Bolivia and Costa Rica. The Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, expected heterozygosity, matching probability, and power of discrimination, were calculated in the Nayarit population. We found that with respect to the studied markers, Nayarit genetic structure is homogeneous. In this study, it is established that Nayarit is genetically similar to the South American Mestizo population. The distribution of a set of these 15 STRs was analyzed with other South American populations as well as in the extensive set of neighboring populations from the literature (USA, Europe and Africa). We found significant differences exist between the isolated populations (Huastecos, Otomi from Sierra Madre and from Ixmiquilpan Valley) and Mestizo populations. Statistical analysis supports that Americans actual inhabitants and Europeans are genetically similar, while Africans and isolated populations from South America have more genetic differences. Abstract: Several alloys produced by arc cast method were obtained, with Nb additions up to 20at%. The samples were thermo-chemical treated with pulsed plasma nitrided for 24h. A pin-on-disk system was employed to perform wear experiments under non-lubrication condition. After wear analysis, the treated samples in all range of Nb concentrations have shown less mass losses in comparison with samples without surface modification, until the nitrided zone is removed. Surface oxidation studies leaded to the conclusion that the increased wear resistance is due to the higher surface hardness together with the mixture of different Nb, Si and Mo oxides generated during the wear process identified by SEM and chemical analysis. The friction coefficient is of the order of 10−3. The improved specific wear rate is of the order of 10−6 mm3/Nm and shows an increment of 39.9% respect to the samples with 5at% Nb and 10at% Nb, this results clearly show that Nb additions is beneficial for the wear resistance of the alloy. Abstract A guideline group consisting of a pediatric rheumatologist, internists, rheumatologists, immunologists, a physiotherapist and a patient expert elaborated guidelines related to the management of juvenile dermatomyositis on behalf of the rare autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases network FAI2R. A systematic search of the literature published between 2000 and 2015 and indexed in PubMed was undertaken. Background Kidney transplantation (KT) is the replacement therapy of choice in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Here we show a cohort of kidney transplant recipients from the period of May 1994 to May 2016 in 2 2nd-level private hospitals from the city of Toluca in the state of Mexico. Methods We checked the clinical files of all the patients that received KT in the period of study. Results We report 25 KT: 23 performed in Sanatorio Toluca and 2 in Sanatorio Florencia; 16 (64%) male and 9 (26%) female; mean age 36.03 ± 15.9 years (range, 10–66); 19 (76%) hemodialysis and 9 (24%) continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis before KT; ESRD etiology unknown in 16 (64%), diabetes in 5 (20%), IgA nephropathy in 2 (8%), and other in 2 (8%); living donors in 13 (52%) and deceased donors in 12 (48%); blood group 0+ in 18 (72%), A+ in 5 (20%), and B+ in 2 (8%); 21 (84%) with 0 and 4 (16%) with 1 HLA mismatch; and delayed graft function in 8 (32%), of which 7 were from deceased donors and 1 from a living donor. All 25 (100%) had a functional kidney at 1 year of follow-up. Immunosuppression regime consisted of multitarget maintenance therapy in all 25 (100%): cyclosporine in 18 (72%) and tacrolimus in 7 (28%). We used only methylprednisolone (MTP) as induction therapy. There were only 2 cases (8%) of acute rejection during the 1st 6 months of follow-up, and both responded to treatment with MTP. Conclusions KT is the treatment of choice for patients with ESRD. The obtained results using only an MTP induction regime are satisfactory, with graft and patient survivals of 100% in the 1st year of follow-up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
