Abstract This study suggests sulfuretin as an ant-skin aging agent. Sulfuretin significantly reduces solar UV (sUV)-increased matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) expression and c-Jun phosphorylation in human dermal fibroblasts as well as skin tissue. An examination of the underlying mechanisms showed that sUV-activated MAPK signaling pathways are blocked by sulfuretin. Interestingly, sulfuretin directly inhibits the kinase activity of selected Src family. Because the amino acid sequence of Hck kinase which used kinase array is 230–497, it was assumed that sulfuretin interacts with this conserved domain of Src family kinase. It was also found that sulfuretin directly binds to sulfuretin with the lowest binding energy of −8.9 kcal/mol and free energy of −10.07 kcal/mol. Additionally, Hck protein was precipitated with sulfuretin-conjugated Sepharose 4B beads in HDFs cell lysate. We performed a theoretical analysis for corneal transparency by using a 3D simulator of FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method. For that purpose, we examined light transmittance through detection of output light intensity with a simplified lattice model for the collagen fibrils in the corneal stroma. The geometrical nano-structure of the collagen fibrils in the corneal stroma is the main factor for light transparency of the cornea. Objective: To compare the neonatal outcomes of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants born after IVF with those of VLBW infants born after natural pregnancy (NP).Design: Prospective cohort study.Setting: Not applicable.Patient(s): A total of 6,871 VLBW infants born from January 2014 to December 2016.Intervention(s): None.Main Outcome Measure(s): Neonatal mortality and morbidities.Result(s): Of the 6,871 VLBW infants enrolled, 4,438 infants were born as singletons (IVF = 271; NP = 4,167), and 2,433 infants were born as multiplets (IVF = 1,301; NP = 1,132). After adjustment for maternal and neonatal baseline characteristics, infants born as singletons earlier than 28 weeks after IVF more frequently had high-stage retinopathy of prematurity than those born after NP, whereas infants born as multiplets between 28 and 31 weeks after IVF had fewer major congenital anomalies, high-grade intraventricular hemorrhage, and periventricular leukomalacia than those born after NP. Otherwise, no differences in mortality and neonatal outcomes were found.Conclusion(s): Very low birth weight infants born as singletons after IVF had comparable neonatal outcomes to those born after NP, except for an increased risk of high-stage retinopathy of prematurity. In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), hospitalized HIV-infected patients who are discharged home have been shown to experience extremely high mortality rate. Daraja is an individual-level, time-limited, five-session case management intervention aiming to link hospitalized HIV-infected patients to outpatient HIV care upon discharge. A randomized control trial will aim at evaluating the efficacy of Daraja intervention on reducing mortality in hospitalized HIV-infected patients upon discharge from hospital. The study will recruit 500 hospitalized HIV-infected adults who are ART naïve or defaulted for >7 days from hospitals in Mwanza region, Tanzania. Participants will be enrolled during hospitalization and a baseline assessment will be done. Participants will be randomized to receive either the standard of care HIV linkage, or the Daraja intervention a day before the expected hospital discharge date. The Daraja intervention includes five sessions delivered by a social worker over a 3-month period. All participants will complete follow-up assessment at month 12 and 24. Measures will include 1-year survival, HIV care continuum outcomes (linkage, retention, antiretroviral adherence, and viral suppression), and cost (incremental cost of the intervention and cost per life saved). Quality assurance data will be collected, and the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention will be described. Statistical analysis will assess the effectiveness of the Daraja intervention on improving survival and HIV care continuum outcomes. Hospitalized HIV-infected patients who are being discharged home have higher mortality due to poor linkage to primary HIV care. The Daraja intervention has the potential to address barriers that prevent successful transition from hospital to primary HIV care. Trial registration : ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT03858998.
