The current study is associated with the numerical investigation of the thermal behavior of cylindrical-shaped biological tissue during laser-based photo-thermal therapy. The light-tissue interaction has been modeled using the transient radiative transfer equation (TRTE). The TRTE in a cylindrical coordinate system is solved using the modified discrete ordinate method to obtain the intensity distribution inside the biological tissue. The solution of TRTE is coupled with Pennes bio-heat transfer equation (BHTE) to understand the thermic response of biological tissue. The Pennes BHTE is solved using the finite volume method (FVM). The two different types of optical inhomogeneity (absorption and scattering inhomogeneity) are considered in the current study. The inhomogeneity's optical and thermophysical properties may be the same/different from the homogeneous biological tissue. This conjugate heat transfer problem (CHTP) is solved using the harmonic mean technique. First, the present result is verified with the data available in the literature. Subsequently, the effect of inhomogeneity's optical properties on the temperature distribution is investigated. A comparative study between the same and different thermophysical properties of the biological tissue and inhomogeneity is performed. This study will help to accurately model the thermal characteristics of the laser-irradiated biological tissue having different thermophysical properties than the inhomogeneity. Understanding unsteady convective heat transfer (UCHT) behavior of simultaneously evolving laminar pulsatile flow between two large parallel plates exposed to time-dependent thermal boundary conditions is the goal of this research. The time-dependent sinusoidal velocity waveform is applied at the entrance of the two large parallel plates exposed to time-dependent sinusoidal heat flux boundary conditions (TSHBC). The finite volume technique is used in the present work. The current results have been compared to the literature data under the same operating conditions and found to be in good concurrence. The influence of various parameters, for instance, amplitude, frequency, phase difference, heat flux ratio, and the Reynolds number on the transient Nusselt number, is investigated. An improvement in energy transfer is observed when the pulsatile flow between two large parallel plates with TSHBC than the non-pulsatile flow with a fixed heat flux type boundary. Furthermore, the energy transfer improvement is observed once the velocity and heat flux waveform frequency is equal. The applicability of the present work could be found in the solar heating system, cooling of electronic devices, etc., whereby a more robust understanding of the unsteady convective heat transfer could facilitate the design and develop an efficient system. Species mislabeling of commercial loliginidae squid can undermine important conservation efforts and prevent consumers from making informed decisions. A comprehensive lipidomic fingerprint of Uroteuthis singhalensis , Uroteuthis edulis, and Uroteuthis duvauceli rings was established using high-resolution mass spectrometry-based lipidomics and chemoinformatics analysis. The principal component analysis showed a clear separation of sample groups, with R2X and Q2 values of 0.97 and 0.85 for ESI+ and 0.96 and 0.86 for ESI-, indicating a good model fit. The optimized OPLS-DA and PLS-DA models could discriminate the species identity of validation samples with 100 % accuracy. A total of 67 and 90 lipid molecules were putatively identified as biomarkers in ESI+ and ESI-, respectively. Identified lipids, including PC(40:6), C14 sphingomyelin, PS(O-36:0), and PE(41:4), played an important role in species discrimination. A mercury biosensor was constructed by integrating biosensor genetic elements into E. coli JM109 chromosome in a single copy number, using the attP/attB recombination mechanism of X phage. The genetic elements used include a regulatory protein gene (merR) along with operator/promoter (O/P) derived from the mercury resistance operon from pDU1358 plasmid of Serratia marcescens. The expression of reporter gene gfp is also controlled by merR/O/P. Integration of the construct into the chromosome was done to increase the stability and precision of the biosensor. This biosensor could detect Hg(II) ions in the concentration range of 100-1700 nmol/L, and manifest the result as the expression of GFP. The GFP expression was significantly different (P < 0.05) for each concentration of inducing Hg(II) ions in the detection range, which reduces the chances of misinterpretation of results. A model using regression method was also derived for the quantification of the concentration of Hg(II) in water samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
