In the northwest Himalayan region, the ongoing out-of-sequence deformation caused emergence of Back Thrust (BT) around 43ka, which attributed the growth of anticlines parallel to the strike of major thrusts. This spatial and temporal geomorphic deformation is accompanied by coexisting river incision in the axial zone of anticlines and base-level fall along with upstream migration of knickpoints in the longitudinal river course. We used the Stream Power Incision model (SPIM) which relates the normalized steepness index (k sn), and concavity index (θ ref) with the slope (S) of longitudinal river profile as a power-law function of upstream area (A). and estimated these parameters for Beas, Soan, and Sutlej rivers to decipher the spatial distribution of deformation pattern. Using SRTM DEM and based on strike parallel variations of the k sn we identified segmented nature of the NW Himalayan thrusts. Further, the dynamics of river basins and transience along the tributaries and main stem rivers has been analyzed by Chi analysis (χ), which is attributed to geometric disequilibrium of the rivers. The results of k sn and χ analysis together suggests that the crustal shortening of NW Himalaya is caused by segmental reactivation of the thrusts. Further, investigating the change in steepness along longitudinal course aids in understanding the differential uplifts patterns in actively deforming segments of major NW Himalayan thrusts. The consequence of strain accumulation along various Himalayan thrusts is manifested in shaping the topography and present day lanscape features of the Himalaya. Consequently, the strain accomodation is attributed to the occurrence of various devastating earthquakes in the Himalayan domain including 1905 Kangra earthquake (Mw 7.8) which occurred along the Kangra valley fault. In the present study, we analyzed and estimatedsss fault related parameters, gradient-length anomaly (GLA) analysis together with Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (In-SAR) measurements to understand the landscape evolution and deformation pattern within the Soan dun (piggy back basin) in the northwest Himalayan front. We combined the results of geodetic, geological, geomorphology and InSAR to constrain the uplift and subsidence between Himalayan Frontal Thrust (HFT) and Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) zones. The estimated results of fault parameters reveal that the horizontal shortening of northwest Himalaya is higher than the vertical uplift. The computed values of GLA magnitude analysis for the uplifted region vary from −9.21 to −0.77, whereas these range from 5.48 to 26.60 for the subsided region. The depicted range of vertical deformation observed from the InSAR measurements ranges from −3.13 to +3.14 mm/y, where the positive and negative value of phases are correlated with the ground uplift and subsidence. The rate of deformation observed from Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) phase velocity and GLA magnitude is positively supported by the chronologically constrained uplift rates as 3.4 ± 0.3 mm/y. The geomorphic evidences such as folded, tilted and truncated alluvial fan surfaces, offsetting of channels, fault scarps and displaced sedimentary sequences indicate active nature of the Soan dun. The study would be eventually useful for seismic hazard assessment and future infrastructure development in the seismotectonically active regions like Soan dun of NW Himalayan front. A highly efficient Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) coated copper–iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles as catalyst has been developed for the Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions between organic azides and terminal alkynes which is known to be the best example in click chemistry. The in situ generated Cu(I) species is the catalytically active species for click reaction. Wide ranges of 1,2,3 triazoles have been synthesized in good yields by use of the catalyst at room temperature. This nanocatalyst can be recovered by applying an external magnetic field which results in easy separation of the catalyst without filtration and can be reused three times without loss of its significant activity. Iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4) and manganese dioxide (MnO 2) Nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized via green synthesis approach using beetroot (Beta vulgaris) leaf extract and evaluated as nanofertilizer for studies of In-vitro microtuberization of potato. Successfully biogenesis of NPs were demonstrated through UV–visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM-EDX, and TEM analysis. In-vitro micortuberization analysis, single nodal explants of potato were placed on media (Murashige-Skoog plant growth medium devoid of original Fe and Mn salt) added with different concentrations of metal oxide-NPs, and physiological, biochemical and molecular changes were observed via using standard methods. The interaction of the NPs with the nodal explants significantly induced early tuber induction and tuber growth upon application of Fe 3 O 4 NPs (4.0 mg L-1) and MnO 2 NPs (1.0 mg L-1) in comparison to untreated potato tissues. Molecular analysis of potato tissues revealed enhanced expression of primary tuber inducing genes viz. Calcium-Dependent Protein Kinases (StCDPK), Calmodulin (StCaM1), and Lipoxygenase (StLOX) enzyme activity show a positive correlation of tuber induction with added NPs. Further elemental analysis via EDX exhibited that the addition of biocompatible metal oxide NPs in the growth media induced the cytosolic Ca+2 burst leading to enhanced expression of major tuber induction pathway genes resulting in early and enhanced potato tuberization. Absorption of metal-oxide NPs in microtubers was evaluated by FTIR and EDX mapping. This study is the first report on the molecular mechanism involved in regulating NPs induced the potato tuberization under In-vitro conditions. The study also indicated that application of the metal-oxide NPs as nano-nutrient to enhanced potato microtuber production. The shoreline of Gujarat in western coast of India has remained exposed to tsunamis and storm surges in past from distant to regional sources and processes. The catalogue of past tsunami and storm events whose geological signatures have been archived in the coastal records, often hints at frequency, magnitude and recurrence. In present work, we compile all possible signatures of palaeo-extreme wave events and attempt to assess the vulnerability to this rapidly developing shoreline. We report a total of six major extreme wave events, out of which atleast two have been identified to be associated with palaeotsunami deposits, whereas three are storm surge deposits and one is designated as a washover deposit. Archeological findings like the presence of thick walls around Dholavira (an ancient Harappan coastal trading centre) is also supportive of Harappan learning from the wrath of marine waves they would have faced. This study reports the wider time gap between the events, attributed to lack of preservation, difficulty in recognition, higher reworking or lack of detailed investigation ~ making the task of estimating recurrence a mammoth effort. The study shows that the shoreline of Gujarat has remained vulnerable to extreme wave events atleast during the last 6000 years, and have affected ancient settlers as well as modern anthropological activities. Reductions in deforestation and forest degradation are advocated as a means to mitigate climate change. The formulation and implementation of policies to achieve such reductions requires an understanding of current and historic land-use change and associated greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, it is often proposed that any reduction in emissions be measured against a reference scenario that describes future land-use in the absence of intervention. However, the information needed to progress this agenda is rarely available, as robust data on the extent and causes of land-use change, and the associated changes in carbon stocks, are sparse, particularly in African woodlands. Here we present a novel method for obtaining such information by combining data from radar remote sensing and ground surveys with a simple aspatial model. Using this approach we quantify changes in woody biomass and investigate the land-use activities that caused these changes in a 7500 km 2 area of Manica province, Mozambique. We use the data to construct a model linking the activities causing biomass loss to hypothesised drivers, allowing the definition of future scenarios. Within the study area, biomass was lost at a rate of 2.8 ± 1.9% per year, with stocks changing from 19.4 ± 0.9 TgC in 2007 to 17.6 ± 0.9 TgC in 2010. Small-scale agriculture was the direct cause of 46 ± 17% of the total biomass loss, followed in magnitude by construction and miscellaneous activities (24 ± 11%), charcoal production (18 ± 9%), logging (9 ± 5%) and commercial agriculture (3 ± 2%). Uncertainties remain on the biomass accumulated by regrowing vegetation. Extrapolating into the future, a scenario that includes projected population growth shows 41% of biomass being lost from 2010 to 2020 (a loss of 7.2 TgC). A scenario of intensive policy interventions gives reduced losses of 3.8 TgC by factoring in improvements in crop yields, charcoal production efficiency, and sustainable timber harvesting. Our case study demonstrates the importance of low intensity losses of biomass in African woodlands, and highlights the broad range of activities that will need to be addressed to develop locally appropriate mitigation actions. The simple modelling framework allows for the transparent creation of scenarios in data sparse areas, which could be used as local or national reference emissions levels under REDD+. Paleoseismic and archaeological records of the Kachchh Rift Basin (KRB) of western India indicates that the region become tectonically active during the period of Middle to Late Holocene. To understand the relationship between strain accumulation, earthquake genesis, and landform development, we analyzed uplifted Late Quaternary terraces and archaeological evidence along the Kachchh Mainland Fault (KMF) zone. Dividing the elevation of the bedrock strath at each site by their ages, yields vertical uplift rates of 0.29–1.17 mm/y for the KMF zones. Archaeological data from the excavation of the Kotada Bhadli site suggest that the site was occupied during the Late mature Harappan (2300-2500 BCE) period and abandoned around 1900 BCE. The ruins of Harappan civilization at Kotada Bhadli location are resting over the Middle Holocene fluvial sediments. The oldest fluvial sediment is dated to 4 ka, whereas the youngest sediment yielded an age of 3 ka. The chronological constraints in geomorphic and archaeological records suggest that the area was hit by an earthquake around 2200 BC (∼3.5ka). The geomorphic and chronologically constrained uplift rates reveal that the KMF zone of the intraplate region of the Kachchh is geodynamically controlled by several fault segments, which are consistent with the ambient tectonic stress field owing to the northward movement of the Indian Plate concerning the Eurasian Plate.
