Survival with operable breast cancer has improved markedly in recent decades, however, treatment-related cardiovascular toxicities threaten to offset these gains. Ovarian function suppression paired with aromatase inhibition, for premenopausal women with hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer, is a newer widely adopted therapy with the potential for significant long-term cardiovascular toxicity. Abrupt estrogen deprivation for non-cancer reasons is associated with accelerated coronary artery disease. Women with breast cancer treated with aromatase inhibition in addition to ovarian function suppression experience a dual hit with regards to estrogen exposure. The C a R diac O utcomes W ith N ear-complete estrogen deprivation (CROWN) study seeks to understand the early, subclinical natural history of cardiovascular compromise in young women undergoing near-complete estrogen deprivation (NCED) therapy. It is critical to understand the early subclinical development of cardiovascular disease to identify a window for therapeutic intervention before overt cardiovascular events occur. This three-site regional study (Atrium Health Wake Forest, Duke, and Virginia Commonwealth University) uses serial stress cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging and cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) obtained during the initial two years of NCED therapy to study myocardial prefusion reserve (MPR), large cardiovascular vessel changes, left ventricular function, and other cardiovascular parameters. The CROWN cohort will consist of 90 premenopausal women with breast cancer, 67 with HR-positive disease receiving NCED and 23 comparators with HR-negative disease. Participants will undergo three annual CMR scans and 2 CCTA scans during the 2-year study period. After initial activation hurdles, accrual has been brisk, and the study is expected to complete accrual in December 2024. Efforts are in place to encourage participant retention with the study primary outcome, change in MPR between the two groups, to be reported in 2026 to 2027. The results of this study will enable premenopausal women with breast cancer to balance the health burdens of cancer at a young age and treatment-related cardiovascular morbidity. Finally, the tools developed here can be utilized to study cardiovascular risk across a range of cancer types and cancer therapies with the ultimate goals of both developing generalizable risk stratification tools as well as validating interventions which prevent overt cardiovascular compromise. Cancer therapies induce cardiac injury and increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. In non-cancer populations, higher diet quality is associated with protection against CVD, but the relationship between diet and cardiac function in cancer survivors is unknown. This cross-sectional analysis from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) cohort included 113 cancer survivors (55 breast, 53 prostate, three lung, and three blood) and 4233 non-cancer controls. Dietary intake was reported via validated food frequency questionnaire. Alternate healthy eating index (AHEI) was calculated as a measure of quality. Cardiac function, determined as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), was assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance. Cancer survivors had a lower LVEF compared to controls (61.3 ± 6.5% v 62.4 ± 6.1%, p = 0.04). In all participants, total fat (β ± SE: −0.04 ± 0.01, p = 0.004), saturated fat (−0.11 ± 0.03, p < 0.001), and trans-fat (−0.36 ± 0.12, p = 0.002) intake were inversely associated with LVEF while AHEI (0.03 ± 0.01, p < 0.001) was positively associated with LVEF. Among cancer survivors only, sucrose intake was negatively related to LVEF (−0.15 ± 0.06, p = 0.02), and the ratio of unsaturated fat to saturated fat (2.7 ± 1.1, p = 0.01) and fiber intake (0.42 ± 0.14, p = 0.003) were positively related to LVEF. In cancer survivors, improved dietary fat and carbohydrate quality (i.e., greater consumption of unsaturated fatty acids and fiber) was associated with favorable cardiac function, while higher sucrose was associated with worse cardiac function. Patients with or receiving potentially cardiotoxic treatment for cancer are susceptible to developing decrements in left ventricular mass, diastolic function, or systolic function. They may also experience valvular heart disease, pericardial disease, or intracardiac masses. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance may be used to assess cardiac anatomy, structure, and function and to characterize myocardial tissue. This combination of features facilitates the diagnosis and management of disease processes in patients with or those who have survived cancer. This report outlines and describes prior research involving cardiovascular magnetic resonance for assessing cardiovascular disease in patients with or previously having received treatment for cancer. Objective In spite of supportive care for people affected by cancer being well recognized as a priority for research, there is little solid evidence of the effectiveness of psychological interventions using mindfulness for those with advanced cancer. This systematic review aims to describe, evaluate and synthesize the acceptability and potential benefits of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) for the psychological well-being of people with advanced cancers. Methods Eight databases were searched and terms related to advanced stages of cancer and mindfulness were combined systematically to identify relevant published literature. Inclusion criteria were studies with adults only and all types of cancer at stages III and IV. There was considerable variety in the MBI treatment packages including in the extent and centrality of mindfulness in the interventions. Results Of 312 identified studies, only 8 included MBIs for people with advanced cancer rather than their families or carers. Results from these studies suggests that MBIs are acceptable and beneficial to the advanced cancer population, improving quality of life, use of mindfulness skills, acceptance of their cancer situation and reduction in depression and anxiety. Some adaptations were recommended however regarding delivery, simplified briefer MBIs, abbreviated session time, flexibility concerning locality of treatment and a minimized questionnaire burden for this group. Conclusions MBI packages reviewed in this study had evidence of acceptability and of effectiveness, indicating potential benefit for this population. Individualized, including home-based interventions may be optimal to allow critically ill patients to participate in treatment. Background: In patients with cancer receiving potentially cardio-toxic chemotherapy, measurements of left ventricular (LV) circumferential or longitudinal strain are often used clinically to identify myocardial dysfunction. Using a new software algorithm, we sought to determine in individuals receiving treatment for cancer the association between automated assessments of LV mean mid-wall circumferential strain and conventional measures of LV ejection fraction (EF) both obtained from cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine balanced steady-state free-precession (bSSFP) white-blood acquisitions. Methods: Before and 3 months after initiating treatment with potentially cardio-toxic chemotherapy, 72 individuals (aged 54 ± 14 years with breast cancer [39%], lymphoma [49%], or sarcoma [12%]) underwent serial CMR cine bSSFP assessments of LV volumes and EF, and mean mid-wall circumferential strain determined from these same cine images as well as from additional tagged CMR images. On the cine images, assessments of strain were obtained using the newly developed deformation-based segmentation algorithm. Assessments of LV volumes/EF from the cine images and strain from tagged CMR were accomplished using commercially available software. All measures were analyzed in a blinded fashion independent of one another. Results: Acceptable measures for the automated assessments of mean mid-wall circumferential strain from the cine images were obtained in 142 of 144 visits (98.6%) with an overall analysis time averaging 6:47 ± 1:06 min. The results from these automated measures averaged -18.8 ± 2.9 at baseline and -17.6 ± 3.1 at 3 months (p = 0.001). Left ventricular EF declined slightly from 65 ± 7% at baseline to 62 ± 7% at 3 months (p = 0.0002). The correlation between strain from cine imaging and LVEF was r = -0.61 (p < 0.0001). In addition, the 3-month changes in LV strain and LVEF were correlated (r = -0.49; p < 0.0001). The correlation between cine and tagged derived assessments of strain was r = 0.23; p = 0.01. Conclusions: Automated measures of LV mean mid-wall circumferential strain can be obtained in 6% minutes from cine bSSFP LV short-axis images (used concurrently to assess LV volumes and EF) in 98.6% of patients receiving treatment for cancer with potentially cardio-toxic chemotherapy. Background Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) magnetic resonance (MR) is a novel imaging tool that detects changes in tissue oxygenation. Increases in renal oxygenation in response to a standard 20 mg intravenous furosemide stimulus have been evaluated to assess kidney viability in patients with renal artery stenosis (RAS). The effect of prior exposure to furosemide on the ability of BOLD MR techniques to evaluate renal function is unknown. This study tested the hypothesis that chronic loop diuretic therapy is associated with attenuated responses in renal tissue oxygenation as measured by BOLD MR with an acute 20 mg intravenous furosemide stimulus in participants undergoing evaluation for RAS. Methods Thirty-eight participants referred for evaluation of RAS were recruited for this study. We examined renal cortical and medullary BOLD signal (T2*) intensities before and after a 20 mg intravenous furosemide stimulus. Additionally, we measured changes in renal artery blood flow using phase contrast techniques. Results After controlling for covariates age, race, gender, diabetes, glomerular filtration rate, body mass index, and stenosis severity, daily oral furosemide dose was an independent, negative predictor of renal medullary T2* response (p = 0.01) to a standard 20 mg intravenous furosemide stimulus. Stenosis severity and ethnicity were also significant independent predictors of changes in T2* signal intensity in response to an acute furosemide challenge. Changes in renal blood flow in response to acute furosemide administration were correlated with changes in T2* in the renal cortex (r = 0.29, p = 0.03) but not the medulla suggesting changes in renal medullary oxygenation were not due to reduced renal medullary blood flow. Conclusions Chronic furosemide therapy attenuates BOLD MR responses to an acute furosemide stimulus in patients with RAS being evaluated for renal artery revascularization procedures. Thus, patients who are chronically administered loop diuretics may need a different dosing strategy to accurately detect changes in renal oxygenation with BOLD MR in response to a furosemide stimulus. Objectives: The goal of this study was to determine if low to moderate doses of anthracycline-based chemotherapy (Anth-bC) are associated with subclinical cardiovascular (CV) injury. Background: Cancer survivors who receive Anth-bC experience premature CV events. It is unknown whether low to moderate doses of anthracyclines promote early subclinical CV disease manifested by deteriorations in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) or increases in aortic stiffness, or if these doses are associated with changes in quality of life (QOL). Methods: In 53 men and women with breast cancer, leukemia, or lymphoma, we assessed left ventricular volumes, LVEF, circumferential strain, aortic pulse wave velocity, late gadolinium enhancement, serum B-type natriuretic peptide, troponin I, and the impact of treatment on QOL before and 1, 3, and 6 months after receipt of Anth-bC. Results: Participants averaged 50 ± 2 (range 19 to 80) years in age, 58% were women, 17% were black, and they each received a range of 50 to 375 mg/m2 of doxorubicin-equivalent chemotherapy. Left ventricular end-systolic volume (48 ± 3 ml to 54 ± 3 ml; p = 0.02), left ventricular strain (–17.7 ± 0.4 to –15.1 ± 0.4; p = 0.0003), pulse wave velocity (6.7 ± 0.5 m/s to 10.1 ± 1 m/s; p = 0.0006), and QOL deterioration (15.4 ± 3.3 to 28.5 ± 3.9; p = 0.008) increased, whereas LVEF (58 ± 1% to 53 ± 1%; p = 0.0002) decreased within 6 months after low to moderate doses of Anth-bC. All findings persisted after accounting for age, gender, race (white/black), doxorubicin-equivalent dose, doxorubicin administration technique, comorbidities associated with CV events, and cancer diagnosis (p = 0.02 to 0.0001 for all). There were no new late gadolinium enhancement findings after 6 months. Conclusions: In these study patients, low to moderate doses of Anth-bC were associated with the early development of subclinical abnormalities of cardiac and vascular function that in other populations are associated with the future occurrence of CV events. Abstract: Dimensional models are commonly used as a supplement to the categorical model within the field of personality disorders. The purpose of this study was to examine personality dimensions as predictors of 5-year outcomes among women with bulimia nervosa. One hundred and thirty-four women with bulimia nervosa participated in a randomised psychotherapy treatment trial. Data was available for 109 out of the 134 participants at follow-up. Outcomes were the presence of any eating disorder (past year), the presence of a mood disorder episode (past year), and the global assessment of functioning at 5-year follow-up. Self-directedness was the only predictor of any eating disorder diagnosis (past year) at 5-year follow-up. Asceticism significantly predicted the presence of a mood disorder episode (past year) at 5 years. Borderline personality disorder symptoms predicted global functioning at 5 years. These results suggest that high self-directedness at pre-treatment may offer potential prognostic information regarding eating disorder status 5 years post-treatment. Furthermore, no single measure predicted outcome for all variables (any eating disorder diagnosis, a mood disorder episode (past year), or global functioning) at 5-year follow-up. This suggests that a comprehensive personality assessment using multiple measures is desirable for predicting outcomes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Polymers are becoming increasingly used in aerospace structural applications, where they experience complex, non-static loads. Correspondingly, the mechanical properties at high strain rates are of increasing importance in these applications. This paper presents an investigation of the properties of Dupont 9B polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) across strain rates from 10−3 to 105 s−1. The samples were tested using an Instron mechanical testing machine for static loading, traditional split Hopkinson pressure bars (SHPBs) for high strain rates, and a miniaturized SHPB for ultra-high strain rates. Additionally, the material was tested using dynamic mechanical analysis to determine the effects of time–temperature superposition on the strain rate behavior of the samples. The results of the experiments are analyzed using the Zerilli–Armstrong model for polymers, which shows good agreement with other PTFE studies. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Recent studies have found that angry individuals are characterized by more pronounced attentional and interpretation biases toward threat than anxious individuals. The present study examined anger-related, anxiety-related, and neutral autobiographical memories in 35 angry participants, 33 anxious participants, and 29 non-angry/non-anxious, or healthy participants. Objective indices of autobiographical memories (i.e., retrieval latency, coding of specificity and affective tone) suggested that groups retrieved memories with similar properties. However, both angry and anxious participants rated their memories as less pleasant than healthy participants. These results indicate that memory biases are not part of the cognitive sequelae associated with anger and anxiety, although aspects of the appraisal of these personal memories are distorted. Polyethylene is a widely used plastic exhibiting a large range of properties that depend on molecular weight, crystallinity, chain branching, and cross-linking. In this study, the sound speeds and elastic properties of a variety of commercially available polyethylene materials were experimentally determined using the pulse-echo ultrasound technique. In situ pressure dependent measurements, including ultrasound time of flight, x-ray diffraction, and x-ray radiography, were performed using a Paris-Edinburgh large volume press at the High Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT), beamline 16-BM-B at the Advanced Photon Source. Polyethylene sound speed and elastic moduli were found to increase with increasing pressure. The zero pressure orthorhombic phase was found to transform to monoclinic at low pressures of ~0.1 GPa. The psychological needs of those with advanced cancer have been relatively neglected and many cannot attend treatment for logistic reasons. This study evaluated the feasibility of recruitment and delivery strategies and gathered preliminary data regarding efficacy of the "Coping with Cancer Mindfully" intervention. This is a mindfulness-based intervention designed to improve patients' coping by accepting their situation, increasing their focus on meaning in life and learning to cope with cancer mindfully. This is a single arm pre-post-intervention design. Adults with advanced cancer were recruited from oncology services providers in Christchurch, New Zealand. The intervention was a 1:1 delivery of a 4-week course of pre-recorded mindfulness sessions. Feasibility was assessed by attaining recruitment targets and treatment retention. evaluated participants' levels of mindful coping skills (Mindful Coping Scale), acceptance stance (Acceptance and Action Questionnaire – II) and meaning in their lives (Meaning in Life Questionnaire). Descriptive statistics, paired t-tests and Cohen's d effect sizes were used. Twenty of 30 eligible participants consented. All participants completed the four-week course, and 19/20 completed post-treatment questionnaires, demonstrating feasibility. Pre-post effect sizes were moderate-large for change in acceptance, large for mindful coping skills and the presence of meaning in life. Pre-post change in search for meaning in life was not statistically significant. This study presented preliminary promising results regarding efficacy of the intervention in promoting positive changes in acceptance, meaning in life and mindful coping skills. The low-burden and flexible home-based delivery aspects of the intervention contributed to full retention. • Few trials with advanced cancer populations were found, potentially due to ethical, methodological, and logistical issues. • We developed a novel mindfulness-based intervention for adults with advanced cancer. • The intervention involves mindful coping skills, acceptance and meaning in life to improve coping. • The recruitment and delivery aspects of the intervention were demonstrated to be feasible and contributed to full retention. • There was a statistically significant increase in participants' acceptance, mindful coping skills and meaning in life. Background: Current guidelines for assessing the risk of experiencing a hospitalized cardiovascular (CV) event discourage stress testing of asymptomatic individuals; however, these recommendations are based on evidence gathered primarily from those aged < 60 years, and do not address the possibility of unrecognized "silent myocardial ischemia" in middle aged and older adults. Methods: We performed dobutamine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) stress testing in 327 consecutively recruited participants aged > 55 years without CV-related symptoms nor known coronary artery disease, but otherwise at increased risk for a future CV event due to pre-existing hypertension or diabetes mellitus for at least 5 years. After adjusting for the demographics and CV risk factors, log-rank test and Cox proportional hazards models determined the additional predictive value of the stress test results for forecasting hospitalized CV events/survival. Either stress-induced LV wall motion abnormalities or perfusion defects were used to indicate myocardial ischemia. Results: Participants averaged 68 ± 8 years in age; 39% men, 75% Caucasian. There were 38 hospitalized CV events or deaths which occurred during a mean follow-up of 58 months. Using Kaplan-Meier analyses, myocardial ischemia identified future CV events/survival (p < 0.001), but this finding was more evident in men (p < 0.001) versus women (p = 0.27). The crude hazard ratio (HR) of myocardial ischemia for CV events/survival was 3.13 (95% CI: 1.64–5.93; p < 0.001). After accounting for baseline demographics, CV risk factors, and left ventricular ejection fraction/mass, myocardial ischemia continued to be associated with CV events/survival [HR: 4.07 (95% CI: 1.95–8.73) p < 0.001]. Conclusions: Among asymptomatic middle-aged individuals with risk factors for a sentinel CV event, the presence of myocardial ischemia during dobutamine CMR testing forecasted a future hospitalized CV event or death. Further studies are needed in middle aged and older individuals to more accurately characterize the prevalence, significance, and management of asymptomatic myocardial ischemia. Background There is evidence that chronic pain is not recognised or managed effectively in older people. It is important to examine how older people cope with this because of the impact it can have on their quality of life and mortality. It will also enable nurses to work with older people to support effective coping skills and provide information on other useful coping strategies. Objectives To examine how older people cope with non-malignant chronic pain. Design This is a qualitative meta-synthesis using Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative Research developed by Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation working group to evaluate the strength of the evidence. Data sources PubMed and Ovid Medline from 1995 to 2015. Review methods Following a systematic search strategy all papers were assessed in relation to inclusion criteria and quality. Only qualitative studies were included. Themes were extracted from each study and a meta-synthesis conducted before completing an evaluation of confidence in the findings. Results Seventeen primary studies were included in the meta-synthesis. Three meta-themes were identified: ‘adjusting to the inevitable’, ‘doing it my way without medication’ and ‘the importance of support in managing the struggle’. There was high confidence in the evidence for ‘doing it my way without medication’ and moderate confidence in the evidence for the other two meta-themes. Conclusion Given that the participants in the primary studies were generally wary of health professionals and stoic in their response to pain, it is important for nurses to communicate in ways that engage older people and ensure their independence and sense of control remains intact. Identification of current coping strategies will enable the nurse and the older person to work together to assess their effectiveness and to adapt these if more effective coping is required. Little is known about the factors that contribute to a positive psychotherapy outcome. There is still considerable debate as to whether specific factors (e.g. severity of symptoms, comorbidity) or nonspecific factors (e.g. alliance, therapy process) are most important in influencing outcome. This study examined the additional contribution that therapeutic process and alliance made to previously identified specific predictors of response to CBT and IPT for depression over the course of therapy. The previously identified specific factors were belief that childhood reasons caused the depression, recurrent depression, perceptions about how logical therapy was and comorbid personality disorder symptoms. One hundred and sixty five adult outpatients with major depression were treated for depression in a randomised clinical trial examining predictors of response to Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. All therapy sessions were audiorecorded to enable objective ratings of therapeutic process and alliance. Process factors – patient psychic distress, patient participation and patient alliance had the strongest associations with outcome. The early and middle stage of therapy process did not account for any additional variance other than that previously identified by the patient predictors, however, at the end stage of therapy process contributed a further 14%. Abstract: Purpose: To assess the use of several preoperative parameters in predicting the side of pelvic lymph node metastasis in patients with prostate cancer. Materials and methods: A retrospective chart review (January 1982 to February 2004) identified 106 men with pathology proven lymph node positive prostate cancer for whom complete medical records were available. Results: The median serum prostate-specific antigen at diagnosis was 11 ng/ml with the clinical stage T1C in 9 patients, T2 in 68, and T3 in 29. The Gleason score on transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) biopsy was ≤6 in 13, 7 in 41, and ≥8 in 52. A total of 93 patients had documented pretreatment digital rectal examination (DRE) findings: 54 had a unilaterally suspicious DRE, and 31 had a bilaterally suspicious DRE. Of patients with a unilaterally positive DRE, 30 had ipsilateral lymph node metastasis, 16 contralateral, and 8 bilateral. DRE showed a 71% sensitivity and 29% false-negative rate in predicting the side of nodal metastasis. A total of 98 patients had documented TRUS biopsy findings: 37 had unilaterally positive TRUS biopsies and 61 bilaterally positive biopsies. Of patients with unilaterally positive TRUS biopsies, 20 had ipsilateral lymph node metastasis, 11 contralateral, and 6 bilateral. TRUS biopsies showed an 86% sensitivity and 14% false-negative rate in predicting the side of nodal metastasis. Conclusions: DRE and TRUS biopsies do not accurately predict the side of pelvic lymph node metastasis and should not determine the extent of the pelvic lymphadenectomy. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The present study was designed to replicate and extend results reported by Brendle and Wenzel (Behav. Res. Ther. 42 (2004) 155), who found that socially anxious individuals accurately recalled threat-relevant information but subsequently imposed a biased interpretation upon that same material, using more ecologically valid stimuli. Socially anxious () and nonanxious () individuals viewed two positive, two negative, and two neutral video vignettes and completed two cognitive tasks assessing memory and interpretation of factual details immediately and after 48h. Similar to the results reported by [3]Brendle and Wenzel (2004), socially anxious and nonanxious individuals did not differ in their memory for details that had been presented in the vignettes. However, socially anxious individuals made more negative interpretations of details included in the vignettes than nonanxious individuals, although unlike [3]Brendle and Wenzel (2004), they did not demonstrate the tendency to make less positive interpretations. It is concluded that socially anxious individuals are characterized by interpretation biases when presented with threat-relevant information, and there is no evidence to suggest that they are characterized by memory biases for threat-relevant information. Pericarditis refers to the inflammation of the pericardial layers, resulting from a variety of stimuli triggering a stereotyped immune response, and characterized by chest pain associated often with peculiar electrocardiographic changes and, at times, accompanied by pericardial effusion. Acute pericarditis is generally self-limited and not life-threatening; yet, it may cause significant short-term disability, be complicated by either a large pericardial effusion or tamponade, and carry a significant risk of recurrence. The mainstay of treatment of pericarditis is represented by anti-inflammatory drugs. Anti-inflammatory treatments vary, however, in both effectiveness and side-effect profile. Amenorrhea is a diagnostic criterion for anorexia nervosa (AN), although menstrual cycles have been found to persist in some women with all the other features of AN. This study sought to determine factors that are associated with amenorrhea in 39 women with current primary spectrum AN. The use of exercise to control weight (odds ratio (OR) = 3.5; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.3–9.9; P=.02), low novelty seeking scores (OR = 0.7; 95% CI = 0.58–0.94; P=.02), and low systolic blood pressure (OR = 0.9; 95% CI = 0.84–0.99; P=.046) were predictors of amenorrhea independent of body mass index. Abstract: Inducible promoter fusions are commonly employed to study the biological functions of genes as well as to investigate mechanisms of transcription regulation. A concern for many studies of heterologous gene expression is that steady state transcription may be too high under non-inducing conditions, producing undesired phenotypes prior to induction. Fusions containing the galactose-inducible GAL1 promoter joined to PvuII, a bacterial DNA endonuclease gene, are toxic to yeast cells even under non-inducing conditions, i.e., in glucose media. This toxicity was utilized in conjunction with PCR-based mutagenesis of the GAL1 regulatory region to isolate mutant promoters that retained high inducibility but exhibited reduced basal level expression. The Mig1 repressor binding and putative TATA box regions were unchanged among four mutant promoters examined in detail. However, each promoter contained one or more mutations within previously identified binding sites for the Gal4 activator protein. Genetic assays developed to monitor GAL1p::I-SceI endonuclease-induced recombination demonstrated that basal expression from two of the new promoters (designated GAL1-V4 and GAL1-V10) was strongly reduced. These experiments and additional quantitative luciferase reporter gene assays demonstrate the utility of the approach for identifying promoters that permit more tightly controlled gene expression.
