Revision repair of retorn partial articular supraspinatus tendon avulsion (PASTA) lesion is difficult for poor tendon quality without tear completion and repair. Trans-tendon suture bridge repair with biceps tendon augmentation can preserve the intact bursal side cuff attachment and has shown satisfactory clinical outcomes. Moreover, trans-tendon suture bridge rotator cuff repair technique, along with biceps tendon augmentation, reinforces high-grade PASTA lesions by moving the tenotomized biceps tendon into the torn articular side cuff defect with added advantage of blood supply through the tenotomized biceps tendon graft. Retear after trans-tendon repair of high-grade PASTA lesions was rare, and its poor tendon quality cause the revision repair to be too difficult. Without tear completion and rotator cuff repair, this arthroscopic trans-tendon suture bridge rotator cuff repair with biceps tendon augmentation is a reliable procedure that could be expected to produce improved short-term functional and radiologic outcomes, along with improved tendon quality of repaired tendon. The study investigated the osteogenic capacity of a prefabricated periosteal flap created using only skeletonized pedicle transfer without fascia or muscle for vascular induction in rabbit calvarium. A critical-sized bone defect was made in the parietal bone centered on the sagittal suture, and the demineralized bone matrix was implanted. The periosteofascia over the defect was used as a form of prefabricated periosteofascial flap (PPF group, N=10), conventional periosteofascial flap (CPF group, N=10), and nonvascularized free periosteofascial graft (FPG group, N=6). The prefabricated flap was designed via vascular induction by transferring the central artery and vein of the right auricle onto the periosteofascia for 4 weeks prior to flap elevation. A quantitative comparison of volume restoration and radiodensity in the bone defect and a histological study were performed after 6 weeks of covering the bone defect with periosteofascia. The volume restoration of the bone defect covered with the PPF (43.4%) was not different from that of the CPF (46.2%), but significantly increased compared with that of the FPG (24.6%). The radiodensity of the bone defect covered with the PPF (–186.3 HU) was not different from that of the CPF (–153.6 HU), but significantly increased compared with that of the FPG (–329.8 HU). The results were based on adequate vascular development of the periosteum and were closely related to the osteogenic changes in the implanted demineralized bone matrix (DBM). In conclusion, even in the PPF created by transferring only skeletonized vascular pedicles, the osteogenic capacity of the periosteofascial flap is well maintained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nickel is used as a raw material in the production of stainless steel and secondary batteries in South Korea due to its low corrosivity and high energy density. An unstable nickel supply can negatively affect Korea's industrial competitiveness. Therefore, to identify changes in the local nickel industry and compare and analyze nickel resource circulation and recycling rates, we conducted a material flow analysis of nickel in Korea for 2018 and 2021. An integrated material flow analysis methodology was used to construct the material flow using bottom-up and top-down methods. The results showed that the domestic demand for products connected to lithium-ion batteries increased compared to the demand in 2018, as did the demand for renewable energy and renewable energy-related items, such as electric vehicles, e-bikes, and lithium-ion batteries. However, the flow of stainless steel-related products has declined since 2018 because of the declining supply and demand for automotive semiconductors owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the paradigm shift from internal combustion to electric vehicles. As of 2021, the resource circulation rate and recycling rate of domestic nickel resources were 22.1% and 94.73%, respectively, an increase of 5.64% and a decrease of 19.3%, respectively, compared to 2018. The main reason for the increase in the recycling rate was that the recycled amount of end-of-life nickel products in 2021 increased compared to 2018. The main reason for the increase in the resource circulation rate was that the domestic input of lithium-ion batteries increased rapidly by 2021, but they are still in use because of the life span of lithium-ion batteries. The results of this study provide a theoretical basis for industries and policymakers to develop strategies for securing nickel. • The objective of this study is to evaluate the consistency of the mixture and mechanical properties of bottom ash aggregate-based lightweight concrete (BS-LWA) with foam volume ratio of less than 25% to develop sustainable insulation concrete using foam and bottom ash aggregate. • The test results on the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity for concrete with BS-LWA and a foam volume ratio of less than 25% and comparisons with the values calculated from the ACI code provide fundamental available data for studies on the combination of lightweight concrete with the addition of foam. • In addition, simple empirical equations for the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of LWBSC with low foam volume ratio were proposed, based on the test results obtained in this study. • Consequently, the proposed models can be used as practical equations for the design of sustainable PC panels using LWBSC with low foam volume contents. The present study aims to examine the limitation and significance to develop sustainable lightweight concrete using bottom ash aggregates and preformed foam (LWC-BF). As a positive action for sustainability, ordinary Portland cement (OPC) was replaced by using 50% ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and 20% fly ash (FA), and bottom ash particles were used for entire replacement of natural fine and coarse aggregates. To improve the thermal resistance of concrete, preformed foam was added at the maximum volume fraction of 25%. The test parameters investigated included unit binder content, foam volume fraction, and curing temperature. The different mechanical properties and thermal conductivity for LWC-BF were formulated from the regression analysis using test data. Additionally, the measured compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and air-dried density of LWC-BF were compared with the requirements for precast concrete (PC) insulation panel. Thus, a reliable mixture proportioning for the application to the PC insulation panel could be recommended with the use of unit binder content of 500 kg/m3 and foam volume fraction ranging from 10% to 25%. Abstract Coffee is one of the widely sales beverage worldwide and contains numerous phytochemicals that are beneficial to health. Kahweol acetate (KA), a coffee-specific diterpene, exhibits anti-tumoric properties in human tumoric cells. However, the effect of KA on the metastasis and invasion of cancer cells and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The objectives of this study were to estimate the anti-tumor activity of KA and reveal the possible molecular mechanisms. KA markedly inhibited the cell proliferation enhanced by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) in human fibrosarcoma cells. As well as, KA attenuated PMA-induced cell migration and invasion in a concentration-dependent manner. KA suppressed PMA-enhanced activation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) through suppression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation. KA repressed the PMA-induced phosphorylation of Akt, c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) 1/2, and p38 MAPK, which are signaling molecules upstream of MMP-9 expression. In summary, we demonstrated that the anti-tumor effects of KA might occur through the inhibition of Akt/JNK1/2/p38 MAPK phosphorylation and downregulation of NF-κB activation, leading to a decrease in MMP-9 expression. Thus, KA is a useful chemotherapeutic agent that may contribute to prevent to the metastatic tumor. We assigned 3 representative gaps between lens array and display panel including gap at conventional DPII to find the optimized DoF and enhanced LR. We show that the number of pixels in an elemental lens (EL), and focal length and width of the lens determine practical LR and DoF at the focal plane, and the numerically induced DOP-II with two specified DPO-gaps which are larger than focal length have the enhanced LR and DoF comparing with those of the conventional DPII presenting the optimized LR and DoF near to two DPO-gaps. We show that one of the DPO-gaps has largest DoF and another has largest resolution within some part of DoF in the on-axial DPO-spot size diagram (DPO-SD). Though this DPO-SD, it is expected that the various 3D geometric imaging configurations according to the application fields of 3D imaging could be designed as well. Finally, we verified that the numerically induced 3 geometrical structures based on the proposed model show the similar results with measurements of the optical experiments on the built-up DPO-asymmetric II (DPO-AII) system. Although campylobacteriosis caused by Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli has been increasingly reported worldwide owing to the consumption of contaminated poultry and fresh produce, the current detection protocols are not selective enough to inhibit unspecific microbes other than these pathogens. Five antibiotics were separately added to Bolton broth, and the survival rates of 18 Campylobacter spp. and 79 non-Campylobacter spp. were evaluated. The survival rate of the non-Campylobacter spp. was the lowest in Bolton broth with rifampin (6.3%), followed by cefsulodin (12.7%), novobiocin (16.5%), and potassium tellurite and sulfamethozaxole (both 17.7%). Also the most effective concentration of rifampin was found to be 12.5 mg/L, which markedly inhibited non-Campylobacter strains while not affecting the survival of Campylobacter strains. After the Campylobacter spp. were enriched in Bolton broth supplemented with 12.5 mg/L rifampin (R-Bolton broth), CampyFood Agar (CFA) was found to be better in selectively isolating the pathogens in the enrichment broth than the International Organization for Standardization method of using modified charcoal cefoperazone deoxycholate agar (mCCDA) for this step. When applied to natural food samples—here, romaine lettuce, pepper, cherry tomato, Korean leek, and chicken—the R-Bolton broth–CFA combination decreased the number of false-positive results by 50.0, 4.2, 20.8, 50.0, and 94.4%, respectively, compared with the International Organization for Standardization method (Bolton broth–mCCDA combination). These results demonstrate that the combination of R-Bolton broth and CFA is more efficient in detecting C. jejuni and C. coli in poultry and fresh produce and thus should replace the Bolton broth–mCCDA combination. Pancreatic islet implantation in the liver is a promising approach for diabetes therapy. However, 70% of the islet mass fails to be engrafted in the liver due to the instant blood-mediated inflammatory reactions (IBMIR) resulting from direct contact between islet cells and the bloodstream. To overcome this issue, direct monitoring is very important for establishing prognosis after islet cell therapy. Here we established a new type of MR contrast agent with anticoagulant activity via heparin-immobilized superparamagnetic iron oxide (HSPIO). The HSPIO was chemically conjugated onto islet surface ex vivo without damage of their viability and functionality. The conjugated HSPIO nanoparticles onto islet surface could attenuate IBMIR in vitro and in vivo . The HSPIO-conjugated islets could cure the blood glucose levels of diabetes animals after implantation. In addition, the HSPIO nanoparticles were well maintained on the transplanted islets for a long time during modulation of inflammation. Also, they allowed for stable visualization of the implanted islet cells for more than 150 days without reduction of the MRI signal. Furthermore, when HSPIO itself was intraportally injected, it was rapidly eliminated without accumulation in the liver, suggesting that HSPIO nanoparticles could only track the immobilized islet. Collectively, this HSPIO nanoparticle having MRI sensitivity and anticoagulant activity could be utilized for successful islet implantation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
