Three oligopeptides of KLHDEEVA (KA-8), LALFVPR (LR-7), and PSRILYG (PG-7) were selected from the hydrolysate of Harpadon nehereus. They significantly improved cell morphology and decreased aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in high glucose-induced HepG2 cells. LR-7 showed good performance in regulating both antioxidant and glucose metabolism in high glucose-induced HepG2 cells, evidenced by improved expression levels of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PEPCK1), heme-oxygenase (HO-1), NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), and nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). PG-7 had better performance in reducing triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels and enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity levels. KA-8 showed stronger effects on improving low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), phosphorylation protein kinase B (p-AKT), and phosphorylation glycogen synthase kinase-3 (p-GSK-3β) levels. The results showed that all three peptides could protect against high glucose-induced HepG2 damage through different molecular mechanisms. The protective effects of LR-7 may be attributed mainly to its excellent glycolipid metabolism regulation and oxidative stress attenuation via Nrf2 pathway activation. In this work, graphene(GP) supported Co–Mo–P catalysts for H 2 generation were prepared via an in-situ synthesis strategy with the help of photogenerated electrons. The transmission electron microscopy images (TEM) of the catalysts indicated that the elements of Co, Mo and P were distributed in a relatively homogeneous manner in the catalysts. The Co–Mo–P/GP catalyst exhibited high photocatalytic activity for hydrogen generation sensitized by Eosin Y (EY) under visible light. The Mo/(Co + Mo) molar ratio (χ Mo ) was varied in the catalyst to study the effect of Mo doping on the catalytic efficiency. The highest rate of the H 2 generation was found to be as high as 33.3 mmol·h −1 ·gCo −1 when the χ Mo was 10%. The apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of the reaction over the Mo doped catalyst under 430 nm irradiation was 52.6%, which was six times higher than that using the un-doped Co–P/GO catalyst. In this study, graphene (GP) supported Co-Sn-B alloy were synthesized via in situ chemical reduction reactions for hydrogen generation (HG) from alkaline sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ). X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron Microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were employed to verify the structure, morphology and the surface element composition of the alloy. Coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) were used to analyze the surface composition of the alloy. The effects of complexing agent addition, Co/Sn molar ratio, graphene loading on catalytic activity of the alloy were studied. The maximum hydrogen generation rate reached 11,272 mL min −1 g Co −1 at 30 °C in 5 wt. % NaOH and 5 wt. % NaBH 4 solution, which was three times higher than unsupported Co-B catalysts. The activation energy of the catalytic hydrolysis reaction of sodium borohydride was 39.57 kJ/mol, which is comparable to the noble metal catalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the heat and mass transfer of two kinds of multilayer adult incontinence briefs (diapers for short) in the dry condition and dynamic heat and moisture transfer processes in the wet condition in computational simulations and objective measurements. A commercial disposable brief (PROTEC) with polyethylene, superabsorbent polymers (SAP) and polypropylene, and another kind reusable brief (Reusable) with waterproof breathable fabric, full cotton inner pad and moisture management treatment nonwoven were evaluated. A software platform (S-smart system) with user friendly interfaces was employed in computational simulations. Wear trials were conducted by asking young female adults between 20 and 26 years old to wear incontinence briefs. Objective measurements revealed that there was significantly higher liquid moisture management capacity, water vapor permeability, thermal conductance and maximum value of heat flux in the Reusable than in PROTEC briefs. The simulation and wear trial results showed that there were significantly lower temperatures and humidity at the skin in the diaper area and diaper inner surface fabric in the Reusable briefs compared to the PROTEC ones. The good agreement between simulations and wear trials were observed. The 2D and 3D directly visualizes the changes of fabric temperature/humidity gradient and capacity of absorbing moisture etc. in each layer. The results indicate that the superior fabric’s heat/moisture transporting properties, when incorporated into diapers, is the main mechanism for reducing heat and wetness of the diaper area. The results provide guidance for the optimal design of Eco-friendly diapers with reusable, breathable, biodegradable materials. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The amorphous Co–Ni–P films were electroplating on Cu sheets. The effects of NiSO4 concentrations on the deposit plating rate and the catalytic activities for NaBH4 hydrolysis were investigated. The surface morphology and phase structure of the deposited Co–Ni–P films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The composition was analyzed by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDX). Experimental results showed that adding NiSO4 in Co–P bath could increase the deposition rate. When 0.01M of NiSO4 was used, the highest deposition rate and the highest hydrogen generation rate of 3636mL(ming-catalyst)−1 were obtained. The activation energy (E a) for the NaBH4 hydrolysis was 38kJmol−1, which was comparable to the value of noble metal catalysts. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Amorphous Co–W–P catalysts were prepared on Cu substrates by electrodeposition, which have been investigated as the catalyst for hydrogen generation from alkaline NaBH4 solution. The surface morphology and chemical composition of the as-prepared Co–W–P catalysts were analyzed in relation to the cathodic current density and the electrodeposition time. The hydrogen generation rate for the optimized Co–W–P catalyst is measured to be 5000mL (ming-catalyst)−1 at 30°C. From hydrogen generation tests in solutions with the various concentrations of NaBH4 and NaOH, there were optimum concentrations for both NaBH4 and NaOH, above or below which the hydrogen generation rate decreased. Furthermore, the as-prepared catalyst also showed good cycling capability and the activation energy for hydrolysis of NaBH4 by the Co–W–P catalyst was calculated to be 22.8kJ/mol, which was lower than other reported Co-based catalysts. Abstract: A novel and simple fluorescent chemosensor based on rhodamine (R-2) is designed and synthesized to detect Hg2+. Probe R-2 exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity for sensing Hg2+ with a detection limit at 10−8 M level, and displays a significant color change from colorless to pink color in the presence of Hg2+. About a 400-fold increase in fluorescence emission intensity is observed upon binding excess Hg2+ in 50% H2O/CH3CN HEPES buffer at pH 7.00. The titration results show a 1:1 complex formation between R-2 and Hg2+. The reversibility of chemosensor R-2 is verified through its spectral response toward Hg2+ and I− titration experiments. Using Hg2+ and I− as chemical inputs and the fluorescence intensity signal as outputs, R-2 can be utilized as an INHIBIT logic gate at molecular level. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• Extraction methods affected structural and physicochemical properties of pectins. • High GalA content was found in pectin extracted using microwave and ultrasound. • Improved low-ester pectin yield in less time by alkaline extraction. • Viscosity property was related to molecular weight and particle size. The functionality and property of pectin are correlated with its structure which is affected by the extraction method used. In this study, three different methods of extracting pectin, the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), the ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) and the conventional heating extraction (CHE), were used at three different temperatures with both an acid and alkali extraction solution. It was found that temperature mainly influenced pectin yield, while pectin structures and physicochemical properties were affected by the pH condition and extraction technology. The alkali-extraction with MAE and UAE at short time promoted the yield of low-ester pectin. Monosaccharide composition analysis showed a high galacturonic acid (GalA) content in the pectin derived from MAE and UAE. The high viscosity and desirable viscoelastic properties of the acid-MAE pectin were due to its large molecular weight and particle size.
