The demand for high-energy storage supercapacitors with appropriate designs has been emerging in recent times. Aimed at enhancing the electrochemical storage performance of supercapacitors, g-C 3 N 4 /WO 3 (H 2 O) 0.33 (GCN/WO) nanostructures have been prepared in a simple wet impregnation process by mixing the synthesized g-C 3 N 4 , and WO 3 (H 2 O) 0.33 materials and their performances were compared systematically with their individual components. The successful formation of C 3 N 4 /WO 3 (H 2 O) 0.33 nanostructure has been confirmed by the XRD, SEM, EDS, HR-TEM, HAADF and XPS spectroscopy analyses. The prepared GCN/WO nanostructures showed greater specific capacitance of 466.88C g−1 at 1.5 A g−1 than their counterparts (GCN 87.87C g−1 and WO 140.64C g−1) with remarkable cyclic stability of 98.6% over 10000 cycles. Notably, the fabricated hybrid asymmetric supercapacitor devices (HASDs) exhibited ultrahigh power density of 255.23 W kg−1 at energy density of 10.07 Wh kg−1. The enhanced electrochemical capacitor characteristics of GCN/WO nanostructures could be attributed to the positive synergistic effect of GCN and WO. Thus, the strategy utilizing this synergistic effect between GCN and WO in a simple impregnation process is a viable alternative to fabricate the high capacitance electrodes for application in supercapacitors. An oxygen-vacancy rich, bismuth oxide (Bi 2 O 3) based MoS 2 /Bi 2 O 3 Z-scheme heterojunction catalyst (2-BO-MS) was prepared in an autoclave hydrothermal method using ethanol and water. The performance of MoS 2 /Bi 2 O 3 catalyst was examined for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, photoelectrochemical activity, and crystal violet (CV) dye degradation by comparing with pristine Bi 2 O 3 and MoS 2. The hydrogen evolution performances of 2-BO-MS catalyst exhibited 3075.21 μmol g−1 h−1, which is 7.18 times higher than that of MoS 2 (428.14 μmol g−1 h−1). The XPS, XRD and HRTEM analyses covered that the superior photocatalytic performance of 2-BO-MS catalyst might have stemmed out due to the existence of oxygen vacancies, enhanced strong interfacial interaction between MoS 2 and Bi 2 O 3 and specific surface area. The in-depth investigation has been performed for MoS 2 /Bi 2 O 3 Z-scheme heterojunction using several characterization techniques. Moreover, the photocatalytic mechanism for hydrogen evolution and photodegradation were proposed based on trapping experiment results. This results acquired using MoS 2 /Bi 2 O 3 Z-scheme heterojunction would be stepping stone for developing heterojunction catalyst towards attaining outstanding photocatalytic activity. Herein, mixed-phase BiFeO 3 /Fe 2 O 3 (BF-M) nanocomposite has been successfully prepared in a simple single-step synthetic strategy and its structural, physicochemical and magnetic properties have been characterized. The performance of as-synthesized mixed-phase BF-M catalyst has been investigated in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation and photocatalytic dye degradation analysis by comparing with the partials Fe 2 O 3 with BiFeO 3 (BF–P). The BF-M photocatalyst has degraded 95.7% of the rhodamine B (RhB) dye while BF–P has degraded 82.1% in 80 min. In addition, the BF-M electrode exhibited 0.57 mA cm−2 photocurrent density which was 1.83 times higher than the BF–P electrode (0.31 mA cm−2), signifying that the formation of a mixed-phase nanostructure interface is advantageous in enhancing light absorption capacity and reducing the rate of electron-hole recombination. [Display omitted] • TVP208 and DPP13 sensitized solid-state (SS) dye anchor counter electrode (DACE) based DSSCs were successfully fabricated. • Effect of DACE based DSSCs performance was studied systematically by comparing with the traditional SS-DSSCs. • DACE based DSSC have shown higher efficiency than traditional SS-DSSC, owing to their enhanced J sc and IPCE. • Possible electron transfers mechanism responsible for enhanced efficiency of DACE based DSSC were studied using the IPCE. • Electron transfer from counter to working electrode were confirmed using Bare TiO 2 and DACE electrode-composed devices. Constrained absorption nature of the dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is one of the key limitations in attaining the optimum efficiency. In this report, we have adopted the newly developed DACE technique to achieve panchromatic absorption nature in solid state DSSC. Herein, TVP208 and DPP13 have been synthesized and explored for the dye anchor counter electrode (DACE) based DSSC, and the effect of DACE electrodes have been studied systematically by comparing with the traditional SS-DSSC devices. TVP208 and DPP13 dyes have shown complementary absorption nature, a prerequisite for obtaining panchromatic absorption in DACE. The SS-DSSC device with TVP208 sensitized working electrode and DPP13 based DACE electrode (SS-Device 2) has shown higher efficiency of 5.08 %. The improved efficiency of DACE based SS-DSSC devices than the traditional SS-DSSC devices could be attributed to the enhanced light harvesting property achieved by employing DACE electrode.
