Two novel 3D functional CPs based on the flexible 4-(4-carboxylphenylmethylthio)benzoic acid ligand have been successively synthesized. Complex 2 that is composed of Co(II), 4,4′-H 2 cpmb and 1,3-Hbib ligand displays good photo-degradation and adsorption properties for the organic dyes. Two new coordination polymers (CPs) based on transition metals, namely [Ni 2 (4,4′-cpmb) 2 (4,4′-bbibp) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] n (1) and [Co(4,4′-Hcpmb)(1,3-bib)] n (2) (flexible 4,4′-H 2 cpmb = 4-(4-carboxylphenylmethylthio)benzoic acid, rigid 4,4′-bbibp = 4,4′-bis(benzoimidazo-1-ly)biphenyl and 1,3-Hbib = 1,3-bis(1-imidazo-1-ly)benzoic acid), have been designed and successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions, which have been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 features a 3D supermolecular structure in ABAB mode by H bonds (O⋯H⋯O) with a 2-fold interpenetrating sql topology framework and 2 displays a 3D supermolecular framework by H bonds (O⋯H⋯O) with a rarely fes topology. One novel metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been successfully synthesized under solvothermal condition and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical behaviors of the complex have been studied in 0.1M KOH. Photocatalytic properties have been confired by degrading rhodamine B (RhB), methylene violet (MV), and methylene blue (MB). Possible degradation mechanism and the effect of the variables have been discussed. One novel metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) constructed by one angular ligand and 5-aminoisophthalic acid, namely {[Ni(L)(bpt)(H 2 O)]·2H 2 O} n (H 2 L = 5-aminoisophthalic acid, bpt = 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole) has been designed and successfully synthesized under solvothermal condition. This compound was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound possesses a uninodal 3-connected 3D (three-dimensional) hcb topology framework with the point symbol (63). The thermal stabilities and electrochemical behavior in the solid state of the compound have been investigated in detail. [Display omitted] Cobalt metal organic frameworks (Co-MOFs), as promising potential electrocatalyst materials, have been extensively investigated owing to high catalytic active center, uniform catalytic site, large specific surface area, adjustable pore. A new Co-MOF, namely, {[Co 2 (L)(4,4′-bbibp) 2 ]·4(H 2 O)} n [ YMUN 9 (YMUN for Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities)], has been synthesized based on semi-rigid dicarboxylic acid and rigid imidazole ligands (H 2 L = 3,5-bis(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)benzoic acid, 4,4′-bbibp = 4,4′-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)biphenyl). YMUN 9 displays a 3D framework through by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). In order to present the structure more clearly, YMUN 9 can be defined as a 3D 2-nodal (4,4)-connected network with the point symbol of {4·85}2{42·104} through topology analysis. YMUN 9-D has been obtained based on YMUN 9 through a new strategy that of programmed heat treatment of YMUN 9. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrochemical activity of YMUN 9-D has been investigated through cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear scanning voltammetry (LSV), chronopotentiometry (CP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte. The investigated results revealing that YMUN 9-D has a prominent overpotential of 273.9 mV (at J = 10 mA·cm−2), and keeps great chemical stability until 1000 mins. The Tafel slope of YMUN 9-D is 141.9 mV·dec−1 and its double layer capacitance is found to be 32 mF·cm−2. Two novel Ni(II)-based monomeric complexes are applied to the UV-light-driven degradation of methyl violet (MV). [Display omitted] Two Ni(II)-based monomeric complexes with the formulas of [Ni(dbb)(H 2 O) 2 ] (1) and [Ni 2 (H 2 dbb) 2 (xda)(H 2 O) 2 ] (2) (H 2 dbb = 6,6′-di(benzimidazol-2-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine, H 4 xda = 5,5′-(1,4-xylylenediamino) diisophthalic acid) have been successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Structural analysis revealed that the discrete monomers of 1 and 2 extend into high-dimensional networks through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, π···π stacking interactions and weak intermolecular interactions. As novel photocatalyst materials, 1 and 2 exhibited active performance towards the degradation of methyl violet (MV) under UV irradiation. Besides, the cyclic experiments indicated that 2 was stable and reusable, enabling it to be potential candidates for dye-containing wastewater treatment. The possible mechanism of the photocatalytic performance was also investigated in detail. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that Co-MOF 1 exhibits an uninodal net with a (65·8) topology, whereas Co-MOF 2 exhibits an uninodal 4-connected framework with a (44·62) topology. The electrochemistry studies demonstrate that both of the two Co-MOFs can behave as the efficient electrocatalysts for water oxidation in a mild neutral system at the potential around 1.20 V vs. NHE with comparatively low overpotential (η) for Co-MOF 1 and 2 of 337–541 mV vs. NHE. Moreover, the two Co-MOFs also show good photocatalytic degradation capabilities toward MB/MV dyes under UV irradiation, and the mechanism studies demonstrate that the main active species are · OH radicals.
