Abstract

A cognitive busyness manipulation is used within the attitude attribution paradigm and it is found that higher causal uncertainty predicted increased correction of dispositional inferences, but only when participants had sufficient attentional resources to devote to the task. The research elucidates new models of judgmental correction process by demonstrating that some people will deliberatively correct judgments even when they are not warned explicitly about possible bias.

Abstract

Causal uncertainty affects people's judgment when making dispositional attributions. Less adjustments of impressions were correlated with greater levels of causal uncertainty. Moreover, when respondents are provided with positive background information, attributions lead to negativity while negative background information leads to positive attributions.

It can be argued that there is a clear difference between a company which is customer-focused and one which is customer-driven. The latter allows its services to be determined by customer needs, and is willing to make constant changes in order to adapt to customer requirements.

This paper however reports on a field study involving 16 organizations that attempted to build user involvement in developing a knowledge management strategy by having them design it. Twenty-two IT-supported group workshops (involving 183 users) were run to develop action plans for better knowledge management that users would like to see implemented. Each workshop adopted the same problem structuring technique to assist group members develop a politically feasible action plan to which they were psychologically and emotionally dedicated. In addition to reviewing the problem structuring method, this paper provides qualitative insight into the factors a knowledge management strategy should have to encourage user commitment. Abstract

A 15-year-old male white Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) was evaluated for an elevated, ulcerated, cutaneous mass on the right flank. The mass was removed by excisional biopsy and submitted for histopathology. Based on distinct histological features of intracytoplasmic globular material and positive immunohistochemical staining for Melan-A and vimentin, an amelanotic signet-ring melanoma was diagnosed. While in domestic cats this neoplasm is associated with malignancy and a short survival time, the tiger had no local recurrence or related clinical disease approximately 4 years post surgery. Cutaneous melanocytic tumours are rare in big cats, and the findings in this case suggest that amelanotic signet-ring melanoma is not as malignant as its counterpart in domestic cats. Abstract

Reflectance spectroscopic studies show that ferric absorption band in spectra of ferric sulfate-bearing montmorillonites occurs near 0.88 micro m. This result is similar to that obtained using soil near Tharsis Montes volcanoes on Mars. Spectra of many bright regions on Mars, in visible, near-infrared and mid-infrared regions, are similar to those of chemically treated smectites, produced in a laboratory, to be used as Mars soil analogs.

Abstract

The intercalated epithelial cell alternates between its two forms with the apical or basolateral band 3 protein. Seeding of these cells at low density shows apical confluence of band 3 with no apical endocytosis, while plating at high density exhibits basolateral band 3 and apical endocytosis. High density cell-induced-extracellular matrix retargets band 3 in low density cells.

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the provision preference for indivisible goods. The study assumes that shared goods are perfectly divisible and that goods can be distinguished under collective and individual provision through per-unit cost after congestion. Results show that the collective provision is preferred when unit-cost is high. However, lower per-unit cost does not necessarily make the collective provision undesirable.
