Three different monomers have been used to prepare novel Bergman cyclization-based porous organic polymers ( BCPOPs ). The synthesis route to BCPOPs is facile and highly-effecient. Meanwhile, BCPOPs show high physicochemical stability and excellent porosities. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface area of BCPOPs is up to 860 m 2 g −1 , while the carbon dioxide uptake reaches to 11.1 wt% (1.0 bar and 273 K). Additionally, BCPOPs exhibit remarkable CO 2 /N 2 selectivity and CO 2 /CH 4 selectivity up to 38.6 (IAST at 273 K and 1.0 bar) and 9.6 (IAST at 273 K and 1.0 bar), respectively. Four kinds of mannitol-based ketal-linked porous organic polymers ( MKPOPs ) were successfully synthesized through condensation reaction between aromatic acetyl monomers and mannitol, catalyzed by p -toluenesulfonic acid. The structure of resulting polymers was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared and solid-state 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum measurements. The porosities of MKPOPs were investigated by gas adsorption experiments and the results indicate high carbon dioxide uptake (up to 11.5 wt% at 273 K and 1.0 bar) for MKPOPs due to the predominant microporous and hydroxyl-rich structures. Remarkably, MKPOPs exhibit excellent selective adsorption performances for carbon dioxide over methane (9.9–14.2, IAST at 273 K and 1.0 bar). Hypercrosslinked polymers (HCPs) are a type of porous organic materials with high surface area and maneuverable preparation process. Metal-functionalization is a popular and effective post-synthesis modification strategy to construct catalytically active HCPs. Tannic acid (TA) is a biomolecule containing multiphenol moieties that possess the ability to conduct Friedel–Crafts alkylation reaction and metal-bonding active sites. We utilized TA to prepare the hypercrosslinked polymer (TA-HCP) with 1,2-dichloroethane as the crosslinker. After post-synthesis reaction, the vanadium-functionalized TA-HCP-VO was obtained with well-maintained chemical structure and moderate surface area. TA-HCP-VO exhibits an excellent catalytic performance in thioether oxidation reaction to produce sulfoxide compounds. Various thioether substrates with different substituents are transformed to sulfoxide products with high conversion rates (99%) and selectivities (86–95%) under the catalysis of TA-HCP-VO. Furthermore, heterogeneous TA-HCP-VO retains fine catalytic activity and chemical structure after four cycling reactions, which demonstrates the superiority of heterogeneous porous catalysts. Abstract: An azobenzene molecule (AZO) with a flexible alkyl chain was attached to the sidewall of few-walled carbon nanotube (FWCNT) to form a FWCNT-chain-AZO hybrid by covalent bonding. Transmission electron microscopy image shows individually well-dispersed FWCNT packed underneath AZO molecules. The flexible spacer between the FWCNT and the AZO led to the efficient photoisomerization and thermal reversibility of the FWCNT-chain-AZO due to an increase of free volume. A light-driven electronic switch based on two FWCNT/AZO hybrids was fabricated. Current–voltage plots showed a marked continuous increase in conductance of the FWCNT-chain-AZO switch due to efficient trans-to-cis photoisomerization. Reversible conductance of the electronic switch during multiple cycles through on/off switching of the light was obtained due to reversible conformation changes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• The hyper cross-linked porous polymer prepared via FeCl 3 catalyzed Friedel–Crafts reaction. • The polymer was used as a novel material for toxic metal ions removal. • Excellent uptake capacity of Pb(II) was exhibited by this polymer material. • The material has shown strong affinity for pollutant metal ions in wide range of pH. • This sorbent shown selectivities for multiple toxic transition metals such as Pb(II), Hg(II), and Cd(II). The design of efficient adsorbent with abundant binding sites for heavy metal ions is crucial for developing innovative materials that will remove pollutant metal ions. The high uptake capacity, kinetics, and affinity towards the toxic metals are the key requirements that the materials under invesigation should accomplish. Here we report the synthesis of iminodiacetic acid-functionalized hypercrosslinked polymer (IDA-HCP) for purification of water polluted by toxic metal ions via coordination of carboxylate and amino active sites on the surface of porous polymer. The obtained porous polymer is stable under harsh conditions and the structural features on the polymer work together to help the removal of Pb(II) with 1138 mg g–1 uptake capacity. In the meanwhile, the IDA-HCP reveals reuseability and very promising capture efficiency not only for Pb2+, but also for Hg2+ and Cd2+ from a mixture of Pb2+, Hg2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Fe3+, Zn2+, Mg2+, and Na+ metal ions.
