Abstract Vinyl nosylates, readily obtained from β-dicarbonyl derivatives, could be efficiently engaged in Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions, either cocatalyzed by copper or silver salts. The para -nitrobenzenesulfonate (nosylate) group allows this coupling to be performed under very mild conditions (room temperature). These new leaving group and mild conditions could be applied to the synthesis of acetylenic coumarinyl derivatives and to the total synthesis of an acetylenic monoterpene natural product, named cleviolide. Aryl and heteroaryl para -nitrophenylsulfonates (nosylates) have been successfully engaged for the first time in Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions with various aryl or vinylboronic acids (48–98%, 12 examples). The best catalyst/ligand combination have been determined to be 2 mol % of palladium acetate (Pd(OAc) 2 ) and 4 mol % of 2-dicyclohexylphosphino-2′,4′,6′-triisopropylbiphenyl (XPhos) using K 3 PO 4 as base, in tetrahydrofuran at 80 °C. Nanofabrication via self-assembly of hybrid materials into well-defined architectures is essential for the next generation of miniaturized devices. This paper describes our group''s achievements towards the development of multifunctional nanostructures via self-assembly of hybrid systems based on the block copolymer PS-b-P4VP and inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) into 0D, 1D, 2D and complex 3D periodic nanostructures. The morphologies of these architectures are adjusted to gain functions via structural control at different dimensions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
