In the ore beneficiation process, large block detection is necessary to ensure production safety. This typically involves identifying oversized ore on the conveyor belt and preventing material blockage accidents in the transfer buffer bin between the ore feeding belt and the ore receiving belt. Methods based on deep learning can learn to construct complex features from a large amount of data, but they also require a large number of hand-made datasets for training. Although the existing few shot detection methods for ore images reduce the cost of manual labeling, the corresponding detection performance is insufficient. This article mainly explores how to improve the performance of the detector under the ore image detection task in the case of few labeled images. First, a shot enhancement block is proposed to enhance the valuable foreground information for higher-quality support features. Subsequently, we present a dual-attention region proposal network that effectively leverages support features to enhance the precision of generating candidate proposals. Finally, we propose a lightweight multi-relational detector to effectively evaluate the relationship between query and support proposals, leading to a substantial enhancement in guidance performance. The proposed few-shot object detector (FS-OreDet) achieves the best detection results with state-of-the-art methods with an average precision (A P) of 55.1, a speed of 57 frames per second (F P S), and a model size of only 17 M B. Furthermore, our framework adeptly captures the feature information of ore images with substantial data. The detector's accuracy achieves a significant improvement of 14% in A P. Compared with general object detectors, the performance of the detector ranks first and meets the requirements for outdoor scene deployment. • Proposing a stronger few-shot object detector for ore images via feature enhancement and relationship exploration. • Some components are designed for boosting few-shot object detectors of ore images. • Extensive experiments on the ore dataset and theoretical analyses are also added to verify the superiority of the proposed detectors. Squalene is a polyunsaturated triterpenoid compound present in various organisms. Squalene has multiple biological activities, which makes it a potential new functional food ingredient for nutrition enhancement or disease prevention. However, low extraction efficiency, high cost, and environmental issues greatly limit the practical application of squalene. This review discusses the latest findings on the biological activities, natural and genetically modified organism (GMO) sources, trends of extraction technologies, and delivery systems of squalene, providing innovative prospects for the large-scale production and application of squalene. Key findings and conclusions: Squalene has various biological activities, such as immunity enhancement, skin senility resistance, and hypolipidemic, antioxidant, antitumor, antibacterial, and detoxification effects. Thus, squalene can be widely applied in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Natural and GMO sources provide the foundation for large-scale squalene production. Innovative, green, sustainable extraction technologies are emerging as substitutes for traditional technologies. Increasing evidence demonstrated that mitophagy and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) was closely associated with memory decline in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Tea polyphenols (TP), an excellent natural antioxidant, has been reported to have neuroprotective properties in aging and diabetes, but the underlying mechanisms are still not fully understood. This study targets ERS-mitophagy in hippocampal neurons to investigate the improvement effect of memory in aged T2DM rats by TP. Rats were randomly divided into the control group, the aged group, the aged T2DM model group, the TP 75, 150, 300 mg/kg groups. TP 300 mg/kg ameliorated mitophagy by decreasing the levels of p-mTOR (S2448), P62 and HSP60 and increasing the levels of PINK1 and Parkin, the ratio of LC3Ⅱ/LC3Ⅰ, co-localization of LC3 and HSP60 and the number of autophagosomes and autolysosomes. TP 300 mg/kg attenuated ERS by downregulating the levels of p-PERK, p-eIF2α, ATF4, GRP78 and restoring the ER structure. To further verify epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is the main active component of TP, enhanced mitophagy by inhibiting ERS, PC12 cells were pretreated with ERS activator tunicamycin (TM) or ERS inhibitor 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA). The results showed that the improvement of mitophagy by EGCG was inhibited by TM and promoted by 4-PBA. Collectively, ERS-mitophagy in hippocampal neurons plays a key role in the improvement of memory by TP in aged T2DM rats. This study will provide a new perspective and strategy for the prevention of memory decline in elderly with T2DM. • Enthalpy Control Process was proposed to prepare semi-solid 7075 aluminum alloy slurry. • Temperature distribution during the ECP process was predicted by machine learning. • The predicted results displayed an excellent fit with the experimental results. The rapid preparation of desired semi-solid slurry with a specific average temperature and a high temperature uniformity is of essential importance for the rheocasting of high-strength aluminum (Al) alloys. In this study, a novel semi-solid slurry preparation process, namely Enthalpy Control Process (ECP), has been proposed for rapid preparation of 7075 Al alloy slurry. The machine learning approach from the aspect of neural network was utilized to predict the average temperature and maximum temperature difference of the Al slurry prepared by ECP. The results indicated that the temperature values predicted by Back Propagation Neural Network optimized by Genetic Algorithm (GA-BPNN) models exhibit an excellent fit with the experimental results. The average relative error and the coefficient of determination for average temperature of were 0.9988 and 0.027%, while the values for the maximum temperature difference were 0.9910 and 3.4%, respectively. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) has gained popularity for electrochemical water disinfection due to its efficient antimicrobial activity when activated with low voltages. However, the antimicrobial mechanism of LIG electrodes is not yet fully understood. This study demonstrated an array of mechanisms working synergistically to inactivate bacteria during electrochemical treatment using LIG electrodes, including the generation of oxidants, changes in pH—specifically high alkalinity associated with the cathode, and electro-adsorption on the electrodes. All these mechanisms may contribute to the disinfection process when bacteria are close to the surface of the electrodes where inactivation was independent of the reactive chlorine species (RCS); however, RCS was likely responsible for the predominant cause of antibacterial effects in the bulk solution (i.e., ≥100 mL in our study). Furthermore, the concentration and diffusion kinetics of RCS in solution was voltage-dependent. At 6 V, RCS achieved a high concentration in water, while at 3 V, RCS was highly localized on the LIG surface but not measurable in water. Despite this, the LIG electrodes activated by 3 V achieved a 5.5-log reduction in Escherichia coli (E.coli) after 120-min electrolysis without detectable chlorine, chlorate, or perchlorate in the water, suggesting a promising system for efficient, energy-saving, and safe electro-disinfection. The analysis and discrimination of time series data has important practical significance. Currently, transforming the time series data into networks through visibility graph (VG) methods is an effective approach for classifying the series data through GNNs. However, there are two main obstacles to the VG method: (1) the tension between efficiency and complexity during weighted graph construction; (2) difficulty in assigning the different importance of nodes. To tackle these difficulties, we propose an improved weighted visibility graph algorithm (WLVG) in this paper. The proposed algorithm can first intelligently assign weights to the network according to the Euclidean distance among nodes, and then resample the network by the weight coefficients resulting in the removal of the unimportant edges. Finally, in order to effectively aggregate the information among neighbors, the graph isomorphism network (GIN) is utilized for identifying the objects. • A lightweight and effective few-shot detector is designed to address the over-fitting issue under limited labeled data for ore particle detection. • We introduce a support feature mining block to characterize the importance of semantic information. • A relationship guidance block is used to establish the correlation between support and query features for guiding the generation of precise candidate proposals. • The novel dual-scale semantic aggregation module is proposed to retrieve detailed features at different resolutions to contribute with the prediction process. For the ore particle size detection, obtaining a sizable amount of high-quality ore labeled data is time-consuming and expensive. General object detection methods often suffer from severe over-fitting with scarce labeled data. Despite their ability to eliminate over-fitting, existing few-shot object detectors encounter drawbacks such as slow detection speed and high memory requirements, making them difficult to implement in a real-world deployment scenario. To this end, we propose a lightweight and effective few-shot detector to achieve competitive performance with general object detection with only a few samples for ore images. First, the proposed support feature mining block characterizes the importance of location information in support features. Next, the relationship guidance block makes full use of support features to guide the generation of accurate candidate proposals. Finally, the dual-scale semantic aggregation module retrieves detailed features at different resolutions to contribute with the prediction process. Experimental results show that our method consistently exceeds the few-shot detectors with an excellent performance gap on all metrics. • We propose the layered gravity bridge algorithm (LGB) to derive the seed set. • We present the hierarchical gravity approach (HGA) to derive the candidate seeds. • Extensive experiments demonstrate our LGB outperforms the considered approaches. Influence maximization (IM) is a widely investigated issue in the study of social networks because of its potential commercial and social value. The purpose of IM is to identify a group of influential nodes that will spread information to other nodes in a network while simultaneously maximizing the number of nodes that are ultimately influenced. Traditional IM methods have different limitations, such as limited scalability to address large-scale networks and the neglect of community structural information. Here, we propose a novel influence maximization approach, i.e., the layered gravity bridge algorithm (LGB), to address the IM problem, which emphasizes the local structural information of networks and combines community detection algorithms with an improved gravity model. With the proposed LGB, a community detection method is used to derive the communities, and then the bridge nodes are found, which can be regarded as possible candidate seeds. Later, communities are merged into larger communities according to our proposed algorithm, and new bridge nodes are determined. Finally, all candidate seed nodes are sorted through an improved gravity model to determine the final seed nodes. The algorithm fully explores the network structural information provided by the communities, thereby making it superior to the current algorithms in terms of the number of ultimately infected nodes. Furthermore, our proposed algorithm possesses the potential to alleviate the influence overlap effect of seed nodes. To verify the effect of our approach, the classical SIR model is adopted to propagate information with the selected seed nodes, while experiments are performed on several practical datasets. Ginsenoside Rb1 is reported to possess anti-fatigue activity, but the mechanisms remain unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms responsible for the anti-fatigue effect of ginsenoside Rb1 on postoperative fatigue syndrome induced by major small intestinal resection (MSIR) in aged rat. Aged rats with MSIR were administrated with ginsenoside Rb1 (15 mg/kg) once a day from 3 days before surgery to the day of sacrifice, or with saline as corresponding controls. Rats without MSIR but going through the same surgery procedure were administrated with saline as blank controls. Anti-fatigue effect was assessed by an open field test; superoxide dismutase, reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde in skeletal muscle were determined. The mRNA levels of Akt2 and Nrf2 in skeletal muscle were measured by real-time quantitative PCR. The activation of Akt and Nrf2 was examined by western blot and immunohistofluorescence. Our results revealed that ginsenoside Rb1 significantly increased the journey and the rearing frequency, decreased the time of rest in aged rats with MSIR. In addition, ginsenoside Rb1 significantly reduced reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde release and increased the superoxide dismutase activity of skeletal muscle in aged rats with MSIR. Ginsenoside Rb1 also increased the expression of Akt2 and Nrf2 mRNA, up-regulated Akt phosphorylation and Nrf2 nuclear translocation. These findings indicate that ginsenoside Rb1 has an anti-fatigue effect on postoperative fatigue syndrome in aged rat, and the mechanism possibly involves activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway with subsequent Nrf2 nuclear translocation and induction of antioxidant enzymes. Abstract: This study investigated the combustion characteristics of low calorific gas in silicon carbide (SiC) foam. The temperature distribution, reaction zone, maximum temperature, and combustion wave propagation velocity were analysed at different inlet velocities, equivalence ratios of premixed gases, and pore densities. The temperature distribution near the reaction zone was determined by a time-based method. Super-adiabatic combustion was obtained in porous media under different conditions. The experimental results showed that higher temperatures were obtained in SiC foams of 30 pores per inch (PPI) than those measured for foam of 20 PPI. Increased equivalence ratio of premixed gases and pore density led to a thicker reaction zone and a higher preheating efficiency in the preheating zone. The combustion wave propagation velocity, which was less than 2mm/s under these experimental conditions, was increased with increased inlet velocity and decreased equivalence ratio of premixed gases. The combustion wave propagation in foams of 20 PPI had the lowest velocity because of the good match of convection and radiation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Ginseng saponin, the most important secondary metabolite in ginseng, has various pharmacological activities. Many studies have been directed towards converting major ginsenosides to the more active minor ginsenoside, Rg3. Due to the difficulty in preparing ginsenoside Rg3 enzymatically, the compound has been mainly produced by either acid treatment or heating. A microbial strain GS514 was isolated from soil around ginseng roots in a field and used for enzymatic preparation of the ginsenoside Rg3. Blast results of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the strain GS514 established that the strain GS514 belonged to the genus Microbacterium. Its 16S rRNA gene sequence showed 98.7%, 98.4% and 96.1% identity with those of M. esteraromaticum, M. arabinogalactanolyticum and M. lacticum. Strain GS514 showed a strong ability to convert ginsenoside Rb1 or Rd into Rg3. Enzymatic production of Rg3 occurred by consecutive hydrolyses of the terminal and inner glucopyranosyl moieties at the C-20 carbon of ginsenoside Rb1 showing the biotransformation pathway: Rb1→Rd→Rg3. • HAPNWs were used as flexible matrix to prepare all-inorganic thermal conductive films. • BNNSs were integrated with HAPNWs through facile vacuum-assistant filtration. • The resultant composite films possess good flexibility and fire-resistant ability. • Significant enhancement of in-plane thermal conductivity was achieved. With the enlarging application of thermal conductive composites in aviation field and so on, not only high in-plane thermal conductivity (TC), mechanical flexibility and electrical insulation, but also thermal stability and fire resistance are critically desired. Although with outstanding advantages such as light weight, good flexibility and processability, the intrinsic flammability and high temperature intolerance are Achilles' heel for most polymer-based thermal conductive composites, which severely hinders their application in harsh environments. To solve this issue, we here proposed a facile strategy to prepare flexible all-inorganic composite films inspired by the recent progress of using inorganic nanowires to prepare fire-resistant paper. In this design, one-dimensional hydroxyapatite nanowires (HAPNWs) synthesized via solvothermal method and two-dimensional boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) prepared by liquid phase exfoliation were integrated together by vacuum-assisted filtration to form layer-structured composite films, in which HAPNWs provided flexibility and BNNSs offered orientational thermal conductive pathways. When BNNSs loading content was 30 wt%, the in-plane TC value of the resultant composite film reached 6.4 W m−1 K−1 at 25 °C and was still maintained at 5.5 W m−1 K−1 under 100 °C. As expected, the all-inorganic films exhibited excellent flexibility, fire retardant ability and low coefficient of thermal expansion, which show great potential as thermal conductive materials used in harsh environment. • Melamine foams were used as raw materials for strain sensors preparation. • The sensors were prepared by dip-coating and solution absorption of rGO and SEBS. • The strain sensors could be stretchable as well as compressible. • The sensors exhibited good durability and potential in human motion monitoring. With the progress of intelligent electronic equipment, flexible and wearable strain sensors are being widely used in various applications such as electronic skins and smart robot. In this work, we proposed a facile method for the preparation of stretchable strain sensors as well as compressible strain sensors by using commercially available melamine form (MF). Firstly, MF was coated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to construct conductive networks via layer-by-layer assembly of polyethyleneimine and graphene oxide followed by chemical reduction. Thermoplastic elastomer poly (styrene- b -ethylene-butylene- b -styrene) (SEBS) was then infused into the MF@rGO scaffolds through solution absorption method. By adjusting the concentration of SEBS solution used, stretchable and compressible strain sensors were fabricated and both of them exhibited excellent mechanical properties, sensitive responsiveness and electromechanical durability. The deformation capacity of these two types of sensors could reach as high as 50% strain and the maximum gauge factors of stretchable and compressible strain sensors was 2.43 and 1.74, respectively. Stable signals during at least 1000 cycles for both stretchable and compressible strain sensors were well maintained. Image segmentation methods have been utilized to determine the particle size distribution of crushed ores. Due to the complex working environment, high-powered computing equipment is difficult to deploy. At the same time, the ore distribution is stacked, and it is difficult to identify the complete features. To address this issue, an effective box-supervised technique with texture features is provided for ore image segmentation that can identify complete and independent ores. Firstly, a ghost feature pyramid network (Ghost-FPN) is proposed to process the features obtained from the backbone to reduce redundant semantic information and computation generated by complex networks. Then, an optimized detection head is proposed to obtain the feature to maintain accuracy. Finally, Lab color space (Lab) and local binary patterns (LBP) texture features are combined to form a fusion feature similarity-based loss function to improve accuracy while incurring no loss. Experiments on MS COCO have shown that the proposed fusion features are also worth studying on other types of datasets. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which achieves over 50 frames per second with a small model size of 21.6 MB. Meanwhile, the method maintains a high level of accuracy 67.8 in A P 50 b o x and 47.7 in A P 50 m a s k compared with the state-of-the-art approaches on ore image dataset, even better than bounding box tightness prior (BBTP) by 10.4/1.3 on A P 50 b o x / A P 50 m a s k metrics with the ResNet50 as backbone. Tea is a rich source of pharmacologically active molecules that has been suggested to provide a variety of health benefits. However, its mechanism of action in aging-related intestinal flora dysbiosis mediated neuroinflammation is still unclear. This study aimed to explore whether tea polyphenols (TP) can improve memory by regulating intestinal flora mediated neuroinflammation in aging model rats. Ovariectomy (OVX) combined with D-galactose injection was used to establish aging rats related to menopause. The rats were divided into Sham control group, Aging model group, TP 75 mg/kg, 150 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg groups and VE group. After 12 weeks of intervention, the shuttle box test and Y maze test were used to check the memory of rats. The composition of intestinal flora was assessed by 16S rRNA sequencing technology. HE staining and ELISA were used to detect intestinal epithelial morphology and permeability, respectively. TLR4/NF-κB inflammation pathway related indicators were investigated by western blot, and the microglia activation in rat hippocampal tissue was checked by immunofluorescence. In the shuttle box test and the Y maze test, compared with the Sham control group, the memory of Aging model rats was significantly declined. It was observed that the intestinal flora of Aging model rats was dysbiosis, the permeability of the intestinal epithelium was increased. Further experimental results showed that the expression of TLR4/NF-κB inflammatory pathway related proteins in the hippocampus were increased, and the excessive activation of microglia was observed. The beneficial effects of TP intervention have been found to prevent memory decline and significantly improve brain inflammation induced by intestinal flora dysbiosis, and TP 300 mg/kg showed a more obvious advantage than TP 75 mg/kg. TP 300 mg/kg can significantly improve the behavior of rats, improve the composition and diversity of the intestinal flora, and the shape and function of the intestinal epithelium. By reversing the increased expression levels of TLR4, IRAK, p-IκBα and nuclear NF-κB p65 proteins in the hippocampus of Aging model rats, the activation of microglia in the CA1, CA3 and Dentate gyrus (DG) sub-regions of the hippocampus can be inhibited. TP inhibits the brain TLR4/NF-κB inflammatory signal pathway caused by the dysbiosis of intestinal flora, which may be one of the mechanisms to improve the memory decline in aging model rats. Sarcopenia is a progressive systemic skeletal muscle disorder characterized by a pathological decline in muscle strength, quantity, and quality, which frequently affects the elderly population. The majority of cancer patients are of advanced age. Patients may already have sarcopenia prior to cancer development, and those with cancer are prone to developing sarcopenia due to hypercatabolism, inflammation, reduced physical fitness, anorexia, adverse effects, and stress associated with anticancer therapy. Based on the timing, sarcopenia in patients with cancer can be categorized into three: pre-existing sarcopenia before the onset of cancer, sarcopenia related to cancer, and sarcopenia related to cancer treatment. Sarcopenia not only changes the body composition of patients with cancer but also increases the incidence of postoperative complications, reduces therapeutic efficacy, impairs quality of life, and results in shortened survival. Different therapeutic strategies are required to match the cancer status and physical condition of patients with different etiologies and stages of sarcopenia. Here, we present a comprehensive review of the epidemiology and diagnosis of sarcopenia in patients with cancer, elucidate the complex interactions between cancer and sarcopenia, and provide evidence-based strategies for sarcopenia management in these patients. Malignant melanoma is a fatal cancer. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) has been proposed as a therapeutic target of melanoma. An herbal formula Huai-Hua-San (HHS) comprising Sophorae Flos (SF) and Gardeniae Fructus (GF) is traditionally used for treating cancers including melanoma, but the pharmacological basis is unknown. This study aimed to investigate the anti-melanoma effects of an ethanolic extract of HHS (HHSE), and explore the involvement of STAT3 signaling in the effects. An UPLC-TOF/MS method was developed to control the quality of HHSE. A B16F10 allograft mouse model and three melanoma cell lines (B16F10, A375 and A2058) were used to determine the anti-melanoma effects of HHSE. Dacarbazine (DTIC) and Stattic were used as positive controls. Cell viability was detected using MTT and crystal violet staining assays. Cell apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry after the cells were stained with Annexin-V/PI. Cell invasive ability was examined using the transwell assay. Protein levels were determined by Western blotting. The contents of crocin I, crocin II, quercetin and kaempferol in HHSE were 0.59%, 0.98%, 4.66% and 1.15%, respectively. A clinically relevant dose of HHSE (0.1 g/kg/day, i.g. for 15 consecutive days) significantly suppressed B16F10 tumor growth in mice. HHSE dose-dependently reduced cell viability and dampened invasion of, and induced apoptosis in, melanoma cells. Mechanistic studies revealed that HHSE inhibited the phosphorylation/activation of STAT3 in B16F10 allografts and in cultured melanoma cells. In cell models, HHSE also inhibited the phosphorylation of STAT3 upstream kinases, JAK2 (Tyr1007/1008) and Src (Tyr416), lowered STAT3 nuclear levels, and down-regulated the protein levels of STAT3-targeted molecules. Over-activation of STAT3 in A375 cells significantly attenuated the cytotoxic effects of HHSE. HHSE exhibits anti-melanoma effects in cell and mouse models. Inhibition of STAT3 signaling contributes to the anti-melanoma mechanisms of HHSE. Our findings lay a groundwork for developing HHSE as a modern agent for melanoma management, and provide pharmacological justifications for the traditional use of HHS in treating melanoma. Si-Jun-Zi-Tang (SJZT) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used to treat chronic and debilitating diseases including melanoma. SJZT-based therapies have achieved good clinical outcomes in melanoma management. However, the pharmacological basis of SJZT for its clinical use in melanoma treatment is not fully understood. To investigate the anti-melanoma effects and mechanism of action of an ethanolic extract of SJZT. SJZT was extracted using 50% ethanol. A murine B16 melanoma-bearing mouse model was employed to investigate the anti-melanoma effects of SJZT. microRNA (miRNA) and mRNA levels were examined by RT-qPCR, and protein levels were measured by Western blotting. SJZT significantly inhibited B16 tumor growth in mice. Mechanistic investigations revealed that SJZT elevated miR-34b (a tumor suppressing miRNA), and lowered c-Met (a miR-34b target gene) and β-catenin (a downstream molecule of c-Met signaling) expression levels in the B16 tumors. In this study we found, for the first time, that SJZT exerts anti-melanoma effects and regulates the miR-34b/c-Met/β-catenin pathway in a melanoma mouse model. Abstract Aim Mitochondrial dysfunction during aging is a key factor that contributes to sarcopenia. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) has been increasingly recognized to regulate mitochondrial function. The present study aimed to investigate the role of Nrf2 in the development of frailty and sarcopenia during aging, and to demonstrate whether Nrf2 contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass and function by regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics during the aging process. Methods Young (5–6 months), middle-aged (11-13 months), old (20–24 months) Nrf2−/− (knockout, KO) mice and age-matched wild-type (WT) C57/BL6 mice were used in this study. Physical function of the mice in the 6 groups was assessed by grip strength test, four paw inverted hanging test, rotarod analysis, open field analysis, and treadmill endurance test. Muscle mass was measured by cross-sectional area (CSA) of tibialis anterior muscles and gastrocnemius muscle weight. The frailty status of the 25 old WT mice and 23 old KO mice were assessed based on the mouse frailty phenotype assessment. Expression levels of genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis (nuclear respiratory factor 1 (Nrf1), peroxisome proliferative activated receptor, gamma, coactivator 1 alpha (PGC-1α), mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM)) and mitochondrial dynamics (optic atrophy protein 1 (Opa1), mitofusin 1 (Mfn1), mitofusin 2 (Mfn2), and dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1)) were measured in the skeletal muscle. SDH staining was performed and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number was measured. Transmission electron microscopy was used to measure the mitochondria number and morphology. Results Physical function and muscle mass decreased during aging. The mRNA expression levels of Nrf2 decreased with increasing frailty phenotype scores in the old WT mice. There were minimal differences in the physical function and muscle mass between the WT and KO mice in the young groups, whereas Nrf2 deficiency caused a declined physical function and muscle mass in the middle-aged and old mice, and exacerbated frailty in the old mice. The decreases of the physical function and muscle mass were accompanied by the reduced expression levels of genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics, as well as a reduction of mitochondrial number, mitochondrial content, mtDNA copy number, and an impaired mitochondria morphology in the skeletal muscle. Conclusion Nrf2 deficiency exacerbated frailty and sarcopenia during aging, at least partially by impairing skeletal muscle mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics in an age-dependent manner. Abstract Introduction Both Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score and CYP2C19 metabolizer status can independently predict major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We investigated whether their combination could better predict MACE occurrence in patients with ACS undergoing PCI. Materials and methods This retrospective cohort study included 548 consecutive patients with ACS undergoing PCI. A cumulative MACE curve was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate Cox regression was used to identify MACE predictors. The predictive value of GRACE risk score alone and CYP2C19 metabolizer status was estimated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI). Results In a median of 28.58 months, 17 patients (3%) were lost to follow-up, and 62 (11.3%) experienced MACEs. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that both GRACE score and CYP2C19 metabolizer status were independent MACE predictors (hazard ratio 1.019, 95% CI 1.011–1.027, p < 0.001; hazard ratio 2.383, 95% CI 1.601–3.547, p < 0.001, respectively). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that CYP2C19 PM increased the MACE risk (log rank test = 10.848, p = 0.004). The GRACE score adjustment by CYP2C19 metabolizer status enhanced the predictive value (AUC increased from 0.682 for GRACE score alone to 0.731 for GRACE score plus CYP2C19 metabolizer). This result was further verified by IDI and NRI. Conclusions CYP2C19 metabolizer status and GRACE score are readily available predictive approaches for MACEs, and their combination derives a more accurate long-term MACE prediction in clopidogrel-treated patients with ACS undergoing PCI. As a new member of lead-free Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 (NBT) ceramics based on bismuth layer-structured ferroelectrics (BLSFs), Bi x Ti 3 O 6+1.5 x ( x = 3.96, 3.98, 4.0, 4.02, 4.04) ceramics was prepared by a conventional mixed oxide route. In order to explore the ferroelectric and dielectric properties, we changed the content of Bi in the ceramics. XRD patterns of Bi x Ti 3 O 6+1.5 x demonstrated that the new material was a single phase of Bi-layered perovskite structure. Through impedance spectra analysis, we found that the Bi 4.02 Ti 3 O 12.03 ceramics sintered at 1100 °C showed excellent dielectric properties with a highest dielectric constant of 8967.49 and a lowest dielectric loss of 0.00298 measured under 10 kHz, which were enhanced much compared with Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 prepared by the same means. Meantime, the Curie temperature of the whole samples was about 670 °C. In addition, the ferroelectric hysteresis loops of all the samples indicated that they were ferroelectric materials, and Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 ceramics sintered at 1100 °C processed a remanent polarization (2 P r ) of 12.206 µC/cm 2 and a coercive field of 29.542 kV/cm. SEM can roughly describe the results of the dielectric spectrum and ferroelectricity with different Bi concentration through grain size mechanics. Because of the high dielectric constant, wide operating temperature and low dielectric loss, the Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 ceramics have a broad application prospect in components, such as sensors, high-temperature capacitors and so on. It is an often challenging but essential issue to develop a facile and cost-effective approach to additively manufacture crack-free and high-strength Al alloys for their wider commercial applications. However, efficient synergistic combination of advanced technology and material development is hardly likely to achieve without considering the extreme processing conditions during additive manufacturing. In this study, the addition of 4 wt% Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) alloy powders, the most commercially used Ti alloy powders, into the laser powder bed fusion (L -PBF) of 7075 Al alloy was performed and experimentally verified to be capable of eliminating the hot cracks while substantially refining the grains. The as-printed sample was crack-free and had a high relative density of up to 99.95%. Synergy effect of the in-situ formation of Al 3 (Ti x ,V 1−x) particles that act as the heterogeneous nucleation sites, and the solute effect of the elements Ti and V that possess a high grain growth restriction factor (Q value) in Al matrix can efficiently control the grain growth. After a direct ageing treatment, the resultant alloy displayed an excellent combination of the high ultimate tensile strength (441 ± 3 MPa) and large plasticity (10.1 ± 0.4%). Our work brings new insights between the grain refinement and crack elimination of additively manufactured Al alloys through addition of commercial Ti alloys, benefiting the tailoring and development of new crack-free and dense high-strength Al alloys for L -PBF. Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes after total gastrectomy (TG) with D2 lymphadenectomy.Methods: Patients undergoing TG with D2 lymphadenectomy for gastric cancer between December 2008 and December 2011 were enrolled. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate the risk factors for the short- and long-term outcomes.Results: A total of 229 patients were analyzed, and 22.3 % developed complications within 30 days of surgery. No patient died within 30 days, while 2.6 % died within 90 days of the operation. In the multivariate analysis, age ≥65 years and cardiopulmonary comorbidities were associated with morbidity, whereas hypoproteinemia and tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage III were associated with the disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). The number of preoperative risk factors stratified the morbidity from 10.3 % in those without any risk factors to 40.5 % in patients with both risk factors. Similarly, 5-year survival rates decreased from 68.9 % (DFS) and 71.1 % (OS) in those without risk factors to 20.2 % (DFS) and 22.9 % (OS) in patients with both risk factors.Conclusion: TG with D2 lymphadenectomy has acceptable short- and long-term outcomes. Gastritis can lead to ulcers and the development of gastric cancer. The rhizome of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. (Asteraceae), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, is prescribed for the treatment of gastric disorders, hepatitis and rheumatism. Its bio-active compounds are considered to be particularly effective in this regard. However, the molecular processes of the herb's anti-inflammatory activity remain obscure. This study elucidates a mechanism upon which an ethanolic extract of this herb (Am-EE) exerts anti-inflammation effects in RAW264.7 macrophage cells (RAW cells) stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment and HCl Ethanol-stimulated gastritis rats. To investigate the anti-gastritis activities of Am-EE and explore the mode of action. Ethanol (95%) was used to prepare Am-EE. The quality of the extract was monitored by HPLC analysis. The in vivo effects of this extract were examined in an HCl Ethanol-stimulated gastritis rat model, while LPS-stimulated RAW cells were used for in vitro assays. Cell viability and nitric oxide (NO) production were observed by MTT and Griess assays. Real-time PCR was used to examine mRNA expression. The PGE 2 ELISA kit was employed to detect prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2). Enzyme activities and protein contents were examined by immunoblotting. Luciferase reporter gene assays (LRA) were employed to observe nuclear transcription factor (NF)-κB activity. The SPSS (SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois, United States) application was used for statistical examination. HPLC analysis indicates that Am-EE contains atractylenolide-1 (AT-1, 1.33%, w/w) and atractylenolide-2 (AT-2, 1.25%, w/w) (Additional Figure. A1). Gastric tissue damage (induced by HCl Ethanol) was significantly decreased in SD rats following intra-gastric application of 35 mg/kg Am-EE. Indistinguishable to the anti-inflammation effects of 35 mg/kg ranitidine (gastric medication). Am-EE treatment also reduced LPS-mediated nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2) production. The mRNA and protein synthesis of inducible cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and NO synthase (iNOS) was down-regulated following treatment in RAW cells. Am-EE decreased NF-κB (p50) nuclear protein levels and inhibited NF-κB-stimulated LRA activity in RAW cells. Lastly, Am-EE decreased the up-regulated levels of phosphorylated IκBα and Akt proteins in rat stomach lysates and in LPS challenged RAW cell samples. Our study illustrates that Am-EE suppresses the Akt/IκBα/NF-κB pathway and exerts an anti-inflammatory effect. These novel conclusions provide a pharmacological basis for the clinical use of the A. macrocephala rhizome in the treatment and prevention of gastritis and gastric cancer. The dried rhizome of Atractylodes lancea (Thumb.) DC. (Compositae) has been prescribed in folk medicine for the management of various inflammatory conditions such as rheumatic diseases, gastritis and hepatitis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial properties of this herb remain elusive. In this study, we investigated the anti-gastritis activities of Al-EE (an ethanolic extract of the herb) and explored the mechanism of action. An ethanolic extract of the Atractylodes lancea (Thumb.) DC. (Compositae) rhizome, Al-EE, was prepared with ethanol (95%) and quality controlled using HPLC analysis. To determine the in vivo effects of this extract, we utilised a HCl/EtOH-induced gastritis rat model. In vitro assays were carried out using a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cell model. MTT assays were used to examine cell viability, while Griess assays were carried out to measure nitric oxide (NO) production. Messenger RNA expression was examined by real-time PCR. Prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2) production was examined using ELISA assays. To examine protein expression and enzymatic activities, we employed western blot analysis. Nuclear transcription factor (NF)-κB activity was determined by Luciferase reporter assays. The content of atractylenolide (AT)-1 and AT-2 in Al-EE was 0.45% and 5.07% (w/w), respectively (Supplementary Fig. 1). Al-EE treatment suppressed the production of NO and PGE 2 , reduced the mRNA expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, while also reducing the protein levels of iNOS and COX-2 in RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Furthermore, Al-EE inhibited the nuclear protein levels of NF-κB (p65) and NF-κB-driven luciferase reporter gene activity in RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Critically, intra-gastric injection of Al-EE (25 mg/kg) attenuated HCl/EtOH-induced gastric damage in SD rats, while the phosphorylation of Akt and IκBα was suppressed by Al-EE in vitro and in vivo. In summary, Al-EE has significant anti-gastritis effects in vivo and in vitro , which can be associated with the inhibition of the Akt/IκBα/NF-κB signalling pathway. Abstract: A new bidentate Schiff base ligand (abbreviated as L) derived from the condensation of S-methyldithiocarbazate (SMDTC) with 9-fluorenone, and its complexes ML2 (M=Ni(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II)) have been synthesized and fully characterized by elemental analyses, IR, molar conductivity and UV–vis spectroscopy. The structures of complexes ZnL2 and PdL2 have been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex ZnL2 adopts a distorted tetrahedral geometry with the azomethine nitrogen atom and the thiolate sulfur atom. The coordination geometry about the Pd(II) is surprisingly a cis-configuration square-planar formed by the Pd(II) atom coordinating to the NS bidentate ligand. Detailed crystal structure analyses show that the cis-positioning of the two ligands was stabilized by the π–π stacking interactions between the two delocalized diazafluorene moieties. • Fe-35%Co samples with good soft magnetic properties were fabricated by MIM. • Relationship between microstructure and magnetic properties was studied. • A mathematic model was developed to predict magnetic properties of Fe-35%Co alloy. Annular samples are fabricated by metal injection molding using pre-alloyed Fe-35%Co powder. Samples sintered at different temperatures (1275, 1300, 1325, 1350 and 1375 °C) all exhibit a single α-FeCo solid solution phase and have low interstitial impurity contents. They are used as model materials to investigate the influences of microstructures on the magnetic properties. The results show that both sintered density and grain size of the material increase with sintering temperature, which gives the sample sintered at 1375 °C the best magnetic properties The coercivity (H c) of the sintered samples increases linearly with the grain size, while the initial permeability (μ i) is inversely proportional to the square root of the coercivity. Based on the above relationships, a mathematic model has been developed which can be used to predict the magnetic properties of the sintered Fe-35%Co alloy from its microstructures. A multi-narrowband absorber composed of gold nanopillar metamaterial is numerically designed and investigated in this paper. Full-wave simulations indicate that five distinctive narrow-band absorption peaks with the maximum absorption rate up to 99.3% and the lowest above 80% can be achieved in the near-infrared regime at normal incidence. Polarization dependence over a incident angular range of ± 30°is also researched. We demonstrate the spectroscopic tunability of our absorber by adjusting the structural parameters of the gold nanopillar array. Physical mechanism of the multi-narrowband absorption is construed as the vertical Fabry–Perot-like gap plasmonic resonances induced by electric and magnetic dipolar polaritons. Compared to the previous researches on multi-band absorbers, we realize no less than five near-infrared narrow absorption bands by utilizing just simple configuration with single pattern, which makes considerable application potential in the fields of absorption filtering and spectroscopic sensing.
