The incidence of ectopic liver has been reported to be anywhere from 0.24% to 0.47% and a prevalence rate of 0.47% as diagnosed at laparotomy or laparoscopy. We report a case of Ectopic Hepatic tissue attached to the gallbladder wall that was discovered during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A 47 year-old women presented to the surgery department with abdominal acute pain. The patient was taken for a standard laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The gallbladder was retracted cephalad while Hartmann's pouch was retracted laterally. It was then noted that an ectopic tissue was present on the gallbladder wall. The patient recovered well after surgery, had no complications and was discharged the day after surgery. Ectopic hepatic tissue is a rare condition. The real incidence of ectopic hepatic tissue attached to the gallbladder wall is difficult to assess but is reportedly 0.24–0.47% of the population. • This is a rare case of Type IIIB open distal radial fracture malunion. • The fracture was primary treated with fixation with Kirschner's wires. • The patient has developed volar metaphyseal angulation after loss of primary reduction of Kirschner's wires fixation. • Volar approach for corrective osteotomy and plate insertion is an effective treatment of fracture malunion. Despite the fact that distal radius fractures are the most common, open fractures are relatively uncommon. The aim of this study is to present the case with severe malunion of extra-articular left distal radius after open fracture grade IIIB (Gustillo). The treatment was done with open correctuve osteotomy and ostosynthesis with volar low profile plate. A 32-years old man was admitted to our departement because of severely malunited left distal radius extra-articular metaphyseal fracture after treatment of an open fracture. He was primary treated in a Regional Hospital with irrigation, debridement, antimicrobial cover, and immediate skeletal management through fixation with Kirschner's wires. No external fixator was used. He developed volar metaphyseal angulation after loss of primary reduction of K-wires fixation; therefore it required corrective surgical treatment. Because of malunion, open corrective osteotomy and bone grafting of distal radius with volar plating were done. Follow-up 20 months after surgery show deformity correction of radial volar inclination, height, and restitution of distal radioulnar joint. This case report offers an informative overview on this uncommon case of distal radius open fracture malunion treated successfully with volar approach corrective osteotomy. Corrective surgery is the primary therapy of choice in the this case. This method have shown to be safe and effective in treatment of distal radius malunion with volar angulation. Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a multifocal fibro-osseous tumour originating from the periodontal ligament that presents as being rare, benign and slow-growing. The lesion is characterised by the replacement of regular bone-structure with fibrous tissue and dysplastic bone. Depending on localisation, the initial characteristics of FCOD resemble those of periapical lesions of inflammatory origin. We report on the current findings relating to the case of a 39-year-old Caucasian woman, who initially had persistent paresthesia of the right alveolaris inferior nerve (NAI) for longer than 2 weeks. The orthopantomogram showed multiple bilateral periapical radiolucency and a biopsy was indicated to rule out malignancy. Four years later, the radiolucency occurred once again in region 37, suggesting a recurrence of the lesion. Therefore, another minimally invasive surgery had to be performed, which revealed a bone cavity. Two years later, the bone of the affected region almost completely regenerated. We were aware that an invasive treatment could lead to infection of the hypovascular lesion. Because of the paresthesia, a biopsy was essential. Unexpectedly, the second minimally invasive surgical treatment was a significant success, as the bone lesion regenerated almost completely. The follow-up of this case was documented over more than 18 years. To date, this is the longest documented case of a FCOD. Minimally invasive surgical treatment of such lesions may lead to better bone regeneration and even a better quality of life for the patient. • FCOD is a multifocal fibro-osseous tumour originating from periodontal ligament. • The recurrence of the lesion, thus a relapse, was seen after four years. • Minimally invasive surgical treatment of FCOD can lead to better bone regeneration. Purpose: Despite the common occurrence of early seizures (ES) after stroke, the relationship between risk factors and this complication of stroke is not well established. In this study we have examined the relationship between clinical measures on admission and ES after stroke.Methods: We included 1073 patients (mean age 69 ± 12, 51.6% females) with ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke. The frequency of seizure occurrence within 2 weeks of stroke was determined. We used a logistic regression model to analyse the effect of blood pressure on admission and other clinical factors (age, gender, diabetes, atrial fibrillation and dyslipidemia) on the occurrence of ES after stroke.Results: ES occurred after 4.1% and 4.0% of ischemic and haemorrhagic strokes respectively. Compared to patients with high blood pressure on admission, those with low and normal blood pressure had a higher risk of ES after stroke (2.9% vs.7.5% vs. 7.6%, p=0.001). Also the mean age of patients with post-stroke ES was lower (62.5 vs. 69.3, p<0.001). In a logistic regression analysis, low/normal blood pressure remained independently associated with ES after stroke with OR of 2.46 (95% CI 1.38-4.63, p=0.006).Conclusion: ES after stroke was equally frequent in patients with ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke. Abstract: Different electron beam based techniques such us SEM/EDS and AES are very similar with regard to their imaging capabilities, but there are significant differences in the compositional information they can provide about the sample. In order to determine the usefulness of a technique for the identification of inclusions in spring steel the SEM/AES analysis techniques were used and are shown to be well suited for characterizing of these inclusions. From the results it was possible to evaluate the nature of inclusions, their location, size and chemical composition. It is evident from this study that applications of different techniques in inclusion determination are more representative and reflect inclusion size distribution in sample more objectively. Introduction Patients with type 1 Gaucher disease have been reported to be more likely to have cholelithiasis. Presentation of case A case of cholelithiasis in a patient with type 1 Gaucher disease; which is very intriguing to show this comorbidity. The case was the only known case with this pathology in time of diagnosis in our country (Kosovo). The patient is a 21-year old girl a known case of type 1 Gaucher disease, at the age of 8 years. The patient underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Chronic inflammatory changes and adhesions were obvious during surgery. Discussion Type 1 Gaucher disease patients have several risk factors for gallstone formation: increased biliary excretion of glucosylceramide, advanced liver disease and cirrhosis, splenomegaly, inborn error of metabolism, chronic systemic inflammation, T cell dysfunction, and insulin resistance” to risk factors. Conclusion Gallstones and cholecystitis should be considered when abdominal symptoms and liver dysfunctions are seen in these patients. More studies are needed in especially Kosovo. A total of 25,160 milk test-day records from 2,516 cows in first lactation of 3 dairy cattle breeds [Simmental (n = 1,900), Brown Swiss (n = 444), and Tyrol Grey (n = 172)] in Kosovo were analyzed using nested repeatability and random regression test-day models with varying (co)variance structures. The different models were compared based on likelihood-based criteria. The best model was a second-order random regression model, with heterogeneous cow variance per breed and heterogeneous residual variance per lactation month and breed, which was used for further analysis. The highest milk production was found in Brown Swiss, followed by Simmental and Tyrol Grey. Substantial breed differences were found for the trajectories of cow and residual variances by month of lactation, with the highest variances found for Brown Swiss, followed by Simmental and Tyrol Grey. High cow and residual variances indicated a high degree of environmental sensitivity on the macro- and microenvironmental levels, respectively. Thus, these results indicate increased environmental sensitivity for breeds with higher genetic potential for milk production. These results support the conclusion that dairy cattle production under the current environmental conditions of Kosovo should be based on a breed with moderate production that is robust to the diet offered (e.g., Tyrol Grey). Abstract: Here we present novel information on non-classical functions of cholinesterases and on a cross-talk linking the two enzymes AChE and BChE. The first part of the article is focussed on the regulation of ChEs and the effects acquired when one of the proteins is knocked down (siRNA for BChE, AChE knock-out mouse). In the second part evidence is presented showing that AChE may exert adhesive properties through its binding to laminin, thus being involved in cell–matrix or cell–cell communication.
