• Pixel-level Monte Carlo model of Timepix semiconductor detector developed. • Analytical model of charge sharing effect in Timepix adapted on simulated data. • Measured and simulated particle tracks compared for various particle fields. • Developed methods to be used to support stray radiation dosimetry in radiotherapy by Timepix. The track structure of the signal measured by the semiconductor pixel detector Timepix3 was modelled in the Monte Carlo MCNP® code. A detailed model at the pixel-level (256 × 256 pixels, 55 × 55 µm2 pixel size) was developed and used to generate and store clusters of adjacent hit pixels observed in the measured data because of particle energy deposition path, charge sharing, and drift processes. An analytical model of charge sharing effect and the detector energy resolution was applied to the simulated data. The method will help the user sort the measured clusters and distinguish radiation components of mixed fields by determining the response of Timepix3 detector to particular particle types, energies, and incidence angles that cannot be measured separately. Laccases are enzymes with low substrate specificity that in certain cases require the presence of a mediator in order to work properly. Therefore, this paper investigated the degradation of Orange G, Ponceau 4 R and Methyl Red in the presence of laccase isolated from Trametes versicolor and laccase-ABTS system. Laccase, in high concentration, was able to oxidize only Orange G and Ponceau 4 R, with a degree of decolorization less than 10 % in 20 min. In the presence of laccase-ABTS system, the reaction is much faster, and at least 40 % of dyes were degraded in 15 min. A kinetic model accounting for enzymatic oxidation of all dyes, including a step for enzyme operational inactivation, was proposed. This study proves that we can use a single kinetic model for the oxidation of all dyes in the laccase-ABTS system. • No association between cervical cancer screening and receipt of flu vaccination. • Association was present with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer screenings. • Colorectal screening is significantly associated with receipt of flu vaccination. • Lack of health plan is significantly associated with non-receipt of flu vaccination. Receipt of an annual flu vaccination (AFV) is a preventative health measure that reduces the risk of infection with the flu. Screening for cancer (SC) is another recommended preventative health measure. The current study hypothesizes that people who have previously obtained a cancer screening are motivated to receive other preventative health measures. Testing the association between a history of SC and receipt of an AFV used data from the 2016 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey. The association was investigated using weighted and adjusted multivariable logistic regression models on multiple age-based groups chosen according to cancer screening recommendations. The odds of individuals with a history of SC receiving an AFV were significantly greater in women screened for colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer, and men screened for colorectal cancer, when compared with those without a history of SC after adjusting for confounders of interest. It is notable that no association was found between screening for cervical cancer and the receipt of AFV for women aged 30-65 years (odds ratio: 1.06; 95% confidence interval: 0.92, 1.21), and 50-65 years (odds ratio: 1.14; 95% confidence interval: 0.93, 1.40). The procedure described provides a novel and accessible virtual facebow transfer based on standardized photographs loaded in the virtual articulator module of a computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) software program for dental applications. The practical application of the technique in a digital workflow is the correct alignment of the digital maxillary cast to the virtual articulator with respect to the patient's planes and the skin markings of the condylar axis. Abstract In the context of an urban environment assaulted by noise from different sources, the possibility of using composite materials made of concrete and various materials considered as waste was investigated, for the purpose of using them in acoustic barriers. Five different types of sustainable concrete have been developed, incorporating polystyrene granules, polyethylene terephthalate granules, corn cob granules, shredded sunflower stalk and balls made of sheep wool. Two different thicknesses were adopted, of 40 mm and 80 mm. The influence of the material's thickness was investigated. For these materials, the acoustic absorption coefficient was determined, using Feng's modified procedure of the ISO 10534:1998 standard. The sound absorption coefficient's meaning suffers changes and its measured value can be considered the real one, smaller than the usual reported standard values. Each of the sustainable concrete has sound absorption coefficients higher than those of the conventional concrete. The results highlighted that these types of materials represent a sustainable solution for both waste and noise problems of our cities. A molecular mechanism which guarantees that conventional protein kinase C (PKC) isoforms are sequentially activated by calcium and diacylglycerol signals was discovered. It was shown that GFP-tagged PKC-gamma translocated to the plasma membrane in response to hormonal stimuli. The translocation of C2-GFP was regulated by calcium and the translocation of C1(sub-2)-GFP by diacylglycerol. The properties of the molecular mechanism make PKC-gamma responsive to persistent diacylglycerol increases combined with high- but not low-frequency calcium spikes.
