An experimental study on small-scale for solar hydrogen production system via a Proton Exchange Membrane electrolysis under a desert climatic condition in Ouargla region (South-East of Algeria) has been carried out, the target of this study has been first to evaluate hydrogen production by water analysis and to store the solar energy which has had the form of a hydride-metal hydrogen, after that, to investigate the performance of sophisticated commercial electrolyser (HG-60)powered by photovoltaic panels via the Power Management Unit (PMU) as a power conditioner, this paper has also a mathematical models based on real-time experiments were used to simulate both the photovoltaic system and PEM electrolyser work, along with attempting to direct linking strategy with the same experimental components of photovoltaic panels and commercial electrolyser, it was found through this study, the addition of the number of commercial electrolyser with the bank of four HG-60 stacks in series. More effective considering the improving voltage matching, with power transfer efficiency reach to 99%, also another factor is the photovoltaic panels slope on panel output power and hydrogen productivity are theoretically examined, where the proper selection of optimal tilt angle has an importance for collecting the maximum hydrogen amount, eventually, over the experiment span, the real-amount of hydrogen vented over experiment course is around 92.54l. • Experiments were used to modelling the solar hydrogen production system components. • The performance of PEM electrolyser powered by PV system was investigated. • A direct and indirect coupling PV/HG-60 water electrolyser system is investigated. • Hourly hydrogen production simulations for various panels slope levels are presented. • Panels slope angles effect on the PV/HG-60 performance is examined. Abstract: The Hamma (Algeria) desalination plant, briefly described in the paper, was mathematically modelled in order to check its behaviour in an advanced phase of its design. The plant will employ 288 ERI''s PX units to recover the pressure of the brine discarded from the RO membranes. This way of recovering energy is one of the most advanced and efficient now available, and its functioning is also briefly described in the paper. The devices'' behaviour in unsteady flow conditions was checked by tests carried out in the hydraulics laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. The paper reports on the experimental plant and the results obtained. On the basis of the experimental results, which showed an almost perfect hydraulic disconnection between the high and low pressure lines, the mathematical model of the Hamma plant was built using the momentum and continuity equations integrated by means of the characteristic method. The paper describes the mathematical model and sets out the results, which evidence of the plant''s safety even under the worst conditions likely to occur. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Thermal comfort plays a major factor in building infrastructure sector. It has a big impact on building interior temperature as well as on energy balance and environment. In the current paper the influence of thermal isolation, building orientation and thermal inertia of building envelop on interior ambient temperatures have been studied. To meet our objective, a methodological procedure has been followed. It consists of elaboration of computing program written in MATLAB code to simulate the proposed mathematical model. The main objective of the proposed mathematical proposed model is to compute different delivered temperatures under real climatic and environment conditions. Confrontation of the results found through simulation with those found experimentally shows a clear consistence. Thus the theoretical model is experimentally validated. It can be concluded that: The most effective measure to achieve a better results is thermal insulation. The orientation of thermally isolated building doesn’t have a considerable impact on interior temperature. Thermal inertia of buildings may thus generate thermal comfort. It was revealed that an adequate use of stone thermal inertia is essential to achieve a better building thermal comfort. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In Salah Gas Project in Algeria has been injecting 0.5–1 million tonnes CO2 per year over the past 5 years into a water-filled strata at a depth of about 1800–1900m. Unlike most CO2 storage sites, the permeability of the storage formation is relatively low and comparatively thin with a thickness of about 20m. To ensure adequate CO2 flow-rates across the low-permeability sand-face, the In Salah Gas Project decided to use long-reach (about 1–1.5km) horizontal injection wells. In an ongoing research project we use field data and coupled reservoir-geomechanical numerical modeling to assess the effectiveness of this approach and to investigate monitoring techniques to evaluate the performance of a CO2 injection operation in relatively low-permeability formations. Among the field data used are ground surface deformations evaluated from recently acquired satellite-based inferrometry (InSAR). The InSAR data shows a surface uplift on the order of 5mm per year above active CO2 injection wells and the uplift pattern extends several km from the injection wells. In this paper we use the observed surface uplift to constrain our coupled reservoir-geomechanical model and conduct sensitivity studies to investigate potential causes and mechanisms of the observed uplift. The results of our analysis indicate that most of the observed uplift magnitude can be explained by pressure-induced, poro-elastic expansion of the 20-m-thick injection zone, but there could also be a significant contribution from pressure-induced deformations within a 100-m-thick zone of shaly sands immediately above the injection zone.
